Have a lovely weekend everyone. Lets hope we can squeeze a couple of barbies in

TracyK · 30/04/2005 19:07

its been gorgeous here today - nice and sunny. Off to the south coast tomorrow for 4 days - hope it's nice there too.
Hope everyone has a lovely w/end.

LucyJones · 01/05/2005 19:10

Hi all, glad you had a good time dolbear.

Fennel, I've been wondering about how you've been getting on re stopping the breastfeeding? I have managed to stop night feeds since coming back from holiday a couple of weeks ago, which I am pretty pleased about (dd sleeps through more often now - only problem is she wakes up earlier in the morning than she used to!)

Fennel · 03/05/2005 09:26

hi all

hope you're having a good holiday traceyk, and glad to hear you had a good time at centerparcs Dolbear.

HD. ahem about stopping the bf. I stopped for 48 hours and felt bad about it so started again (another ). It just seemed too quick to stop, full to nothing in 3 weeks or so. Also my breasts were engorged after 48 hours, and as well she doesn't seem totally happy with cow's milk really. I felt I was just avoiding dd3 so she didn't remember to bf. anyway, we regressed and are now back to twice a day, morning and evening. I think i was rushing the stopping cos I am worried it'll only get harder to stop her as she gets more aware. so I am going to stop (honest!) but will think about it in a few weeks of just morning and evening feeds.

oh dear. rod for my own back and all that. and according to saturday's guardian all of us still feeding over 12 months are "Militant Lactivists"!

hewlettsdaughter · 03/05/2005 15:07

Yes, I read that article Fennel . Sounds like you are doing what I'm doing re bf ie taking each day/week as it comes. My dd doesn't seem that keen on drinking cow's milk either.

it's a pain isn't it, my other two were perfectly happy with formula or cows milk but dd3, being given just breast milk til now, is less keen. so it means stopping the bf means cutting down a lot on milk, whereas with the others it just meant switching to a different sort of milk.

Fennel · 05/05/2005 15:25

well it looks as tho i killed this thread - that's what comes of being a scary militant lactivist

how are people? especially KristinaM - when is the baby due? my dsis is due her number 2 in November.

Chuffed · 05/05/2005 16:09

All good in the chuffed house. We had a brill trip to Amsterdam for bank holiday, dd sitting in the backpack waving at the girls in windows in the red light district (no-one waved back).
We really didn't keep her out very late though.

Trying to work out our travelling for the rest of the year at the moment which is quite hard as it will depend on whether I get a big fat + at sometime soon.

KristinaM · 05/05/2005 17:36

Hi chuffed - glad you had a good holiday

Yes fennel i have been avoiding this thread in case I catch it. Next thing I will be joining the NCT and going to coffee mornings.

Ds was one yesterday and baby is due 23 Nov. Tho I was so late last time am expecting this one will come just before Christmas.

How is your sis? I am still VERY nauseous about 20 hours a day and exhausted. Have forgotten how sh*te I feel during the first trimester. My SIL was 4 weeks ahead of me and has just had a MC so feel guilty about being such a whinge. She seems to be coping ok - they have 3 Ds already so she's pretty optimistic about conceiving again soon.

i am back at work now but have not told my b of a line manager that i am going off on mat leave again in 3 months. In the past i woudl have felt really guilty but he is such a horrible man i am quite looking forward to seeing his face when i tell him. (in my defence i would point out that I have worked for the company for 15 years and have had a total of about 2 weeks off sick in all these years. Then when i had a Mc two year ago I was off for 3 days and he referred me to occupational health. My Gp was furious )

sorry for rant - just dont want you all to think i am a scrouger!!

lunavix · 05/05/2005 20:21

Kristina - Isn't that quite early to start mat leave?

dot1 · 05/05/2005 21:39

Hi all, and happy birthday to all the little ones! Our two are keeping me busy - lots of tottering around for ds2 - and lots of words and actions - I'm soooooo proud of him!! He's learning a new word or sign every day and is just so quick at copying. We're still amazed at the difference between both ds's - at this stage ds1 was still completely silent - and remained so until 19 months!!

Fennel - I still really really miss breastfeeding Really wish I'd thought of a way to carry it on and work, but at the time it all seemed impossible. Ah well - ds2's so happy and content the regret's only a selfish one!

KristinaM · 05/05/2005 22:32

Dot - am so impressed at the signing !!! Ds only says hiya, bye, dada, mumum, his sister's name. And of course "ba". Ba is his all purpose word for everything else in the world

Lunavix - are you my boss in disguise??? Yes 29 weeks is the earliest you can start mat leave. Dont be jealous - it doesnt mean you get more leave , just that you have less after the baby is born

Fennel · 05/05/2005 23:04

well kristinaM i am the expert in repeat maternity leaves. i think they think at work I'll never stop.

dsis is sickeningly healthy. she cycles 18 miles to work and back, plus some yoga and recreational weekend cycling, no nausea or overwhelming tiredness. she is also an NCT member and bf her dd til over two.

dot1 it took me 3 times to get so used to breastfeeding, maybe by your third you'll do it for longer

anyone else up watching the election? (i should probably switch to another thread to ask that)

TracyK · 06/05/2005 08:34

back to work after long weekend on south coast. Mixed weather but ds loved the beach and staying with friends' other children. ds has a nice little brown face.

Chuffed · 06/05/2005 08:46

really impressed by all the talky babies, dd is second eldest and we don't really have much vocab at all although she is really good at telling us what she wants somehow.
Happy birthday for your ds on Wed Kristina. Sorry about having a bit of a crappy time though, don't envy you there.
Glad you had a good holiday Tracy.
dd off nursery with 'loose' nappies today so is at work for the am with dh and I get to take her home for the afternoon.

LucyJones · 06/05/2005 08:52

Hi everyone. Don't worry Chuffed, ds is 3rd oldest on here and we've got no words either. He says the normal bah, gah, sometimes da but not at his dad iyswim!

Fennel · 06/05/2005 09:07

i know a few children who barely uttered a word by their second birthday - so plenty of time yet. they all talked well enough at 3 though.

glad to hear you had a good weekend traceyk. we went to the beach too but came back on monday. dd3 loves it.

dolbear · 06/05/2005 09:24

hello , no words here still , just loadsa action !!
bought ds his 1st 'real' shoes the other dat 4G - big foot so we have only one pair to choose from , and he hates them !!! la la

lunavix · 06/05/2005 10:17

MOrning all! Kristina - I know you still only get the six months I just didn't think you were already 17 weeks! I took mine at 37 weeks - although I moaned terribly during the last week at work!

Still can only do the milk sign here, which basically means all food and sometimes he tries it out for a snack too Can really notice the difference between ds and mindee - if I say something to her she copies the words, whereas ds still only has baba, mama etc. Think he might be saying baby instead of baba (cos that's what we call him I know he's so grown up now but if I stop calling him my baby I'll insist we have another straight away which dp is terrified of!

He's just started walking pushing something, but we have to hold on to the walker (peekablocks hippo!) to slow it down else he falls flat on his face! He walks about a mile behind it with his body bent over to reach it. Looks rather funny! Still don't think he's going to walk for the wedding

Chuffed · 06/05/2005 11:29

lunavix when is the wedding? It does happen quite quickly once they just 'get' it.

lunavix · 06/05/2005 15:14

June 11th! Five weeks!

Chuffed · 06/05/2005 17:11

oooh how exciting - he might be walking by then you just never know.

hunkermunker if you check in here and don't get my message on health CAT me re: vaccinations.
