Hi Shonnamum that's really hard, as it sounds like she'd be ready for bed at about 6.30 and so is falling asleep in the car and then has recharged enough to keep going. No suggestions I'm afraid except, could you work an hour earlier, say 2-5? Is she in daycare, or looked after at home so she could be put to bed and you get in just in time to kiss her goodnight? Either that or try to keep her awake til she gets in and to bed asap.
I work 4pm-10pm 2 days a week but my mum looks after him here so he just goes to bed the same time as always. Even so, I'm going freelance come June so I can work from home.
It's so hard trying to combine work and family, isn't it? I'd rather not have to work at all but we can't afford that so hopefully flexible working from home will work better for me.

shonnomanom · 01/02/2009 10:01

Happy February Ladies!

Macaco I cant change my hours at all as Im a nanny, looking after twins from school close til their parents come home at 6. My mum lives in the same small village (I live in the next village 3miles away) and she looks after Hannah while im with the twins.

DP and I were thinkin yday about maybe bathing her in the mornin and my mum gettin her into pjs so when we get home she goes straight from carseat to cot...

I think im lucky enough work wise that my work doesnt feel like work iykwim, I take dd with me once a week and the kids like to pretend that she's their little sister, their mum jokes that Hannah is closest theyl ever get to having another sibling

Hi all,

Just caught up from the week away. Had a nice time in Centerparcs, obviously it was very nice but not really a holiday as such, not with two kids!! DD2 is crawling and into everything as they say, on hols she managed to pull a piece of wood off the fireplace bit that had several 3" nails sticking out of it . Little monkey! She was very chesty while we were away and manged to vomit one night so I was up handwashing bedsheets at 1am (no washing machine). Fun! Hats off to all of you who cope on little sleep every night, I don't know how you do it. However, she loved the pool and the park, and her big sis was amazingly brave on the big water slides at CPs, looks like all that swimming paying off!

AND I go back to work tomorrow!!!!!!!!! Feeling a bit apprehensive......[eek!]

DD2 is pulling herself up on furniture now and getting cuter by the day. Still only 2 teeth.

I would also highly recommend the sleep book too for anyone having sleep problems. I think it's brilliant and have followed it and had very good results.

fuzzypeach we stayed at the 'Timhotel Elysses' a few years ago in Paris, it wasn't very expensive and is right in the heart of Paris, a 5 min walk from the Champs Elysees. I would def recomend.

nice hotel in Paris for fuzzy peach

It's quite small but was fine for what we wanted.

luckymummy74 · 02/02/2009 19:05

Me again.

Funny first day back at work. I live 5 mins walk from hospital I work at, but was told to go to different hospital 20 min drive away (in non-rush hour and with no snow!) for training, at 8:30am. So I duelly arrived, even though I hate driving in the snow, and was told training cancelled. So I then drove home, parked at home and walked to work, where all the patients had been cancelled cos of the snow, and I ended up only staying til 2pm (instead of 5pm) and I was the last person to leave, the rest of them bogged off at midday!!! They all thought it was hilarious that I wanted to stay! (I was enjoying my child-free time, and having a laugh with adults again!)

Back in tomorrow am, but only half a day.

Anyone else snowed in?!!!

monkeysmama · 02/02/2009 20:00

'Evening ladies

Glad your first day back wasn't too hard luckymummy. You sound upbeat about it (aside from having to go all over the place!)

It's thick, thick snow here - about 10 inches I reckon. had great day in the park at the end of our road with dd making snow angels and making her laugh loads

Gotta run - still not made our tea!

Haribosmummy · 03/02/2009 07:49

We had a lovely day in the snow yesterday! DH's flight was cancelled, so we had the whole day to ourselves!!! It was like Christmas is supposed to be - lovely, stressfree, family time

Had a really lovely day. Sadly, DH had to go to work today, but DS and I are planning on a snowman in the garden

DDog has never seen so much snow.... Went a bit loopy when he first went outside and everything had gone white... then couldn't work out why his balls kept disappearing!! haha! He really isn't very clever!!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weather and LM glad you are enjoying being back at work!

And according to the MetOffice we'r to expect a dusting of snow here between tommorrow and the weekend, but strongly doubt itl do anything apart from get my hopes up - I love snow!! Although I dont like driving in it.

Happy Snow Days Ladies

Haribosmummy · 03/02/2009 14:21

I'm with you there, sho - I wouldn't be so happy about it if I had to drive anywhere! Thankfully, I live just over half a mile from a really decent High Street (and Waitrose ) so I can walk everywhere!!!

Is anyone else finding the new look MN really hard to navigate?

I don't like it at all (maybe I'm just not good with change??)

Just a quickie. Another half day at work. Saw 2 patients, felt really rusty, and crap....hated it!! (the feeling crap). I'm a 'clnical specialist' at work so felt really dumb sitting there like a student trying to remember what to ask etc.....hope it doesn't last!!

Anyway, breaking news in the LM household....DH decided to get DD1's old wooden toddle truck out, and he stood DD2 up to it and she only bloody walked with it!!!! We couldn't believe it!! She's always been a strudy lass (just like her mother!) but my goodness, it looked soooooo cute!! She, of course, was pleased as punch! OK, it wasn't proper like full on walking, but she was basically putting one foot in front of the other and pushing the truck forward at the same time (that's walking in my book !)

We also decided to sit her at the table with us in her big sisters booster seat instead of in her highchair, cos she's been getting really ratty in her highchair, and I thought it might be cos she wanted to be at the table with us. She loved it and giggled away at her sis sitting opposite her!!

Hope you all had a good day.

HM LOL at DDog looking for his balls!!! (did you mean his testicles or his balls he plays with.....ot are they the same thing?!)

Mitchell81 · 04/02/2009 08:14

Well we finally have proper snow and schools closed today!!!!! About time it affected Scotland.

Haribosmummy · 04/02/2009 10:33

Yeah!! Mitchell - Congratulations on the snow!!!

LOL at LM - hope you settle back into work soon!

DS seems to be having a growth spurt here - eating and sleeping for England. I thought we'd turned a corner re. sleeping (I've ordered that book, but it's not here yet) until yesterday when it became apparent that DS can't / doesn't want to fall asleep without me being close (in the same room) [eek emoticon]

DD2 teething and grumpy as hell .

Saw a specialist physio today as shoulder pain really getting me down, I have tendonitis .

Yay for mitchell and the snow!

baiyu · 04/02/2009 23:05

Hello from Bath with a sleeping baby, yay! We really have turned a corner, so relieved. having a nice time here, slow days where not much gets done but enjoying not being at home for a bit and not having to do any housework. Missing DP a bit but a wee break is usually quite good for us.

LM74 Sorry to hear about the tendonitis, that sounds really sore! poor you, hope it gets better soon. Oh and the walking sounds amazing! Don't think we're even nearly there yet, come on the crawling!

DP's work front starting to look a bit more positive. Don't want to get my hopes up too mcuh, still early days but we might be moving to......England!

luckymummy74 · 05/02/2009 21:01

Baiyu ooo, how exciting, where in England?
Oh and BTW, I am VERY of you being in Bath, it's one of my very favourite places to be!!!

Mitchell81 · 05/02/2009 21:42

LM Hope your physio can help you. Glad that you are settling back into work. How is DH finding looking after the kids?

Haribo Hope things improve on the sleeping front.

Baiyu Glad you having a nice time in Bath and have my fingers crossed for DP finding a job. How is your Gran?

Shonnamanom How was changing DD routine with an early bath and into Pj's before driving home?

Gingerwench Hope DS is on the mend now

Well snow has defintely arrived and we have had two days off school, waiting to see if more snow arrives tonight.

Haribosmummy · 06/02/2009 06:33

Hey all.
Mitchell - Congratulations on the snow!! I was really enjoying it on Monday, but will feel differently if DH can't get home this weekend because of the flights!!! Fingers crossed he gets home OK.

Baiyu - I also love Bath... Such a gorgeous city!! DH and I were there at the weekend and had a lovely time in Queen Victoria Park with DS! Congratulations on the sleeping. We seem to have a little separation anxiety going on now, but the routine is getting better (I just have to be in the same room!)

LM - How is your routine working out? I hope you and DH are enjoying sharing the DDs childcare!

Gingerwench Hope DS is OK...

How is everyone? I had a HORRIBLE day yesterday. We had no power or heat in the house and I managed to have the garage door open (was clearing the drive of snow) when the power went off so couldn't shut it again (the manual method is broken - not that I knew that for about 2 hours) so I couldn't really go out and leave the garage wide open so was stuck in a freezing house with DS ALL DAY. I ended up crying my eyes out (which is really not that like me) and then having to tell a friend not to come around cos I looked like a wailing banshee Sometimes I really, really hate living alone without any family close. The DSDs are great, but I only ever hear from them when they need something from me, IYSWIM, it's not like I can call on them if I need something... Anyway, heating and power restored so I will stop ranting.

HM xx

Morning Ladies

Well I just had a wee chuckle at the news again apparently some areas of the UK have upto 8inches of snow. Apart from Monday when we had just enough for a snowman, we'v not even had enough to make a snowball! can almost hear the local kids booing

mitchell the plan of early bath early pjs has went belly up, dd seems to be more awake at night
However (dont want to jinx things) we did have a breakthrough last night. For the 1st time in I cant remember how long she slept for 6 solid hours, woke slightly for a feed then went back down for a further 4 - woohoo!!

When dd was preparing fr her bottom 2 teeth to come through she had slightly red cheeks, now she's working on the top 2 her cheeks look really sore, almost textured iykwim. Fortunatley it doesnt seems to be of any discomfort to her.

Im really loking foward to next. Its midterm here, and the kids I look after are away for the whole week, dp has also booked the week off so we can have a proper family week. And the best part is my mum is taking dd overnight on the Friday so dp is taking me out. Cant Wait!!

Have a good weekend

luckymummy74 · 07/02/2009 19:16

HM sorry to hear about your shitty day, sounds awful, I would have been in floods of tears too!

shonnnomanom have a lovely week next week and an even better night out!

DD2 very grumpy the last few days, esp at night/evening. She is currently crying in her cot (suprisingly not waking her big sis up). I hope it's teeth. I don't know what to do to help her. She won't take calpol, off her milk so can't even put it in milk. She's fine if I cuddle her but as soon as I put her back down it starts again.

Childcare OK so far. Not really been tested as I only did a half day on Mon and Tues cos of snow. Funnily enough, DH went to bed at 8:30pm last night cos he was so very tired.....coincidence?? . I'm finding it a bit hard not telling him what to do...in a genuine 'wanting to help' way. I don't want to condescend him (he's very capable) but it's just little things that I have learnt that work well from my months experience of having them both on my own. i.e. He moaned cos as soon as he got to Tesco DD1 needed a wee, he'd asked her if she needed one before they went and she said no. I always make her go, even if she says she doesn't need one. I didn't say anything, it;s hard though. Should I try and help or should I let him learn in his own time like I had to?

Must go....I'm not even meant to be on the laptop as it really flares my shoulder up....ooop!

fuzzypeach we went to Elvedon, only an hour from us. We didn't do any of the 'pay for' activities, tbh, our girls were more than happy just doing one swim and one trip to the park each day. What with DD2 still needing two naps a day and DD1 needing one, we found that filled our days up fine. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Mitchell81 · 09/02/2009 08:29

We still have lots of snow and the temperature now is -12.5'c and it is really cold. So snow isn't going anywhere. I decided to keep DD off school as our road hasn't been gritted and very icy and the school fields are too thick to take a wheelchair over. And anyway having afew friends of DS1 and DS2 over which she would like. So we are going to have a busy day today.

Fuzzypeach hope Chicken pox passes quickly and DD starts to feel better soon

LM I also find when giving helpful advice that DH thinks I am telling him what to do. So best let him learn from his mistakes. As hard as it can be.

Haribo Sorry to hear about your day, I would have also cried. Did DH get home alright??

DS2 is still sleeping well and not waking in the night and even if I put him to sleep at 6:30pm he still doesn't wake up before 7:30am. DS1 on the other hand has decided to wake up and if I don't hear him (As in he is sneaking into the room)he climbs into bed before I notice and is asleep. If I wake up I take him back to bed and then he stays the rest of the night in his bed, any ideas on how to keep him in his bed. He goes to sleep fine.

Hope everyone is enjoying the cold weather.
