Hullo all - it's late in the day but HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAZZLES!

Very interested in everyone's weaning experiences - we haven't started yet and I can't decide what approach to take... with the op due at around 7 months I can't afford to have her weight gain slow down which I understand often happens with solids at first...

PF absolutely no need to apologise - frankly I am delighted to think about clothes, nappy bags, summer hols etc and take my mind off stuff. Been obsessing over what to wear to my friends' DD's christening (I am godmother!) but I think I already have a dress that will do perfectly well [sensible but boring emoticon].

19lb vg I am impressed. Tobes hasn't made it to 14 yet (although is almost there) He is a happy little thing though!

Re the cows milk, ebm, whatever on baby porridge debate, I used to use ready made formula pre 6 months. Much easier! And some of the porridges come with milk in them so you just add water and it all comes together. You just need to check the packet.

vg Don't worry it hasn't come off me onto Tobes either. I was just over 12 stone when I gave birth. I am now 11.7 (woo hoo). Naturally I am about 10 although have been smaller than that (but not in recent years ) I generally lose a lot when I give up bf (keeping fingers crossed) I am sure my boobs weigh at least a stone (pf says hopefully)

sazzles I am really jealous not jealous at all

PetitFilou1 · 08/01/2009 20:17

I can't do strike out sorry!

oopsacoconut · 08/01/2009 20:24

All this weaning talk it's hard to belive it is nearly 6 months since we welcomed our LO's. DD is not ready in the slightest so will sit back and take notes for now. DD has finally at nearly 19 weeks made it to ...13lbs.

VG at work I used to make up porridge with water quite thick then thin it down with ebm so they were at least getting some milk in each feed. Then giving a bit in a beaker to sip.

ANN if you don't fancy a ready made baby rice - we used brown rice flakes/millet flakes (got them from health food shop) and ground them down fine then made according to the instructions - made up batches and then froze them in ice cubes. defrosted them in the microwave and thinned with milk. Sometimes I took them out the night before and he had them room temp as cut up as finger food.

No1 Fleece wraps are a bit touch and go dueing the day as they wick liquid so when LO sits in one spot too long they end up with a wet patch. although not sure how this works at night - when we have used fleece at night she walks up with dry clothes but fleece is damp so back to trusty ME airflows.

Sazzles in honour of your birthday we have just had Fish and Chips.

Sazzles sounds like you had a nice day.

ALBS I just had to remark about you dd1. If it took 5.5 years before she said she hated you then I think you're doing an excellent job with her. Mine has been shouting that (in extreme moments only) since she was 4. And to top that, her favorite line is, "you ruined my life." I haven't a clue where she got that line from but I have caught myself responding, "if you think that now, just wait till your older because i've not even gotten started yet."

What's the name of that how to talk book?[hmm}

oopsacoconut · 08/01/2009 20:26

sazzles it all sounds wonderful

VG PIL are northern Ireland and my bestfriend and godson are in Greystones. I am not a snob but I've been to PIL's area so many times and there is nothing to do there, would rather wile away some days somewhere in Wicklow whether it be exploring the area more or having a lovely cottage to kick back in and let the kids get on with it - I haven't really thought it all through

shall have a look at the website thank you. I was thinking of 11th July for a week but spanner in works is TITP which is weekend of 9th - will work something out no doubt

am also pmsl at the steak and chips - my aunt would have Dylan on mince n' tatties if it wasn't for me insisting she be left alone

am not sure what Dylan weighs now but am pretty sure she was 18lbs last time she was weighed and that was a while ago have just booked her in for third and final jabs on 23rd so will get her weighed at some point

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 20:31

ts at you ruined my life. where on earth do they get it from.
at my dsis house other day her 4 yr old ds said 'i hate you' to her. i was
i have it all to come.

thanks for advice re fleece wraps.
ann i iknow what you mean about them being bit boring. i have one with whales on but all rest are plain.

bit of a nightmare bed time here. took an hour and tears from both, but fast asleep now.

vg dont feel guilty i agree with others. youve done an amazing job. I have told myself to think back to earl;y bf days when thins were difficult and we were telling esch other to take 1 day at a time.
How time goes so quick.

ataraxis · 08/01/2009 20:31

...and in honour of your birthday sazzles, we are having Chinese (DH has gone as we speak). Thanks for the excuse (nice one oops )

TS/albs - DS1 keeps on telling me (whenever something doesn't go his way) that he is leaving this house forever. To which I have, just once, said 'go on then, off you go'. That stumped him .

So... next week - who is now coming to Bristol? Oooh, I am so excited - even had my hair cut (3 inches off!) for the occasion (not because I needed a haircut and was bored of mine at all) DH amazingly didn't bat an eyelid, and even offered to pick up DS1 before he goes to work so I have a bit longer .

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 20:33

god my spelling is getting worse shoulkf check

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 20:33

VG some of those houses are lovely but no photos which is strange

TS How to talk so your kids will listen - or something in that vein loving the ruined life aged 5yrs - how little our DDs know

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 20:33

oh fuckety fuck arse

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 20:34

No1!!!

ataraxis · 08/01/2009 20:35

dd has her second set of jabs tomorrow - they didn't do one over Christmas period so she is having them at 4 & 5 months instead.

Did those of you with older years MMR your children? DS1 had single jabs all the way through, DS2 had first single jabs but I am thinking of single for the booster (he is now 31/2 and would no way deal with 3 more - he still talks about the last one!) I don't want to turn it into an MMR debate - just still have this slight niggling concern that if anything did go wrong...

CaptainCaveman · 08/01/2009 20:39

ataraxis ds1 had mmr, ds2 will be having it too - didn't think twice about it

oops I am with you on losing weight after bfing. Since starting to wean O (he's now on 3 meals per day) I have lost about 4lbs - wonder if it's all come off my norks

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 20:39

its a minefield of info re mmr, I did it all at once. Would worry if I hadnt and worry that I have. You cant win really

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 20:42

mine have both had their MMR and am getting Dylan done too

I didn't have any jabs when I was a baby and it was a nightmare, I got everything

just my own personal opinion though and I realise why people swither over it

CaptainCaveman · 08/01/2009 20:46

albs I cuddled ds1 to sleep until he was around 1yr old . Although there were nights when it totally got on my tits because there were other things I wanted to do (such as have a life!), looking back I'm glad I did that and it certainly helped me to bond with him. I should point out here that this is entirely personal and I'm not suggesting you can't bond with your baby any other way!! After having AND throughout my pg with ds1, then having panic attacks from weeks 34-39 (born at 39+1), I really didn't bond with him until he was about 3 mo. What am i gibbering on about?! . I love cuddling my babies to sleep and I do it with ds2 as well. Nothing sweeter than a chubby little fist on your cheek whilst lying nose to nose with your lo, and feeling the tiny puffs of their breath against your skin.

PetitFilou1 · 08/01/2009 20:50

Oh don't get me started on the MMR

Mine have both had it, Tobes will be having it.

Suffice to say that I worked as a press officer in the Department of Health when the whole Andrew bloody Wakefield thing blew up. He has a lot to answer for.

Please oh please can we not talk about it in case some of you aren't giving it to your children as it is of course completely up to you.
