vg I'm with dizzy and think your boy is probably ready for some food - it was my first thought when I read your post. Go for it - you've got further than I did with my first two (think they were about 19 weeks when I weaned) and they've suffered no obvious ill effects

ooh dizzy I was kidding about the pyjamas but I do need a size 14 swimsuit if you're interested in doing some shopping!

PetitFilou1 · 08/01/2009 14:36

no1 I ignore advice from my mum on that subject - she keeps telling me Toby needs a bottle. She really doesn't like me bfing for so long for some reason - she was really shocked when she saw me bfing dd at a year and said 'I thought you'd given all that up'. Think she thought I was going to carry on FOREVER

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 14:42

Yes mym mum is not into bf either. She said she couldnt stand the thought of just sat feeding all time, when she could be doing the gardening or something. (not maternal at all anyway) why she had 4 I don't know

My dd is sat at my feet eating a yoghurt all by herself and doing very very well bless her.
I told her she couldnt take it in the room so she is sat on the floor between kitchen and room. So they do understand some things then

Miamla · 08/01/2009 14:45

DS def ready for weaning. He's 23 weeks and weighs 17lb 7oz. so he's a big lad and i just didn't feel my milk was enough for him now.

albs, not sure ready brek's a good idea. there's lots of other ingredients apart from porridge oats isn't there? sugar, salt etc afaik, baby porridge is a smoother version of normal porridge

a hot water bottle in the cot is a great idea so i'll be stealing that idea!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 14:50

Yes forgot to say hot water bottle great idea. thanks dizzy
your holiday plans sound great btw, but shame about not your dh hols being different time.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 14:54

off to meet some friends at local soft play, will see how my back goes driving

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 15:03

Feel like a complete saddo. Who gets excited about using a new changing bag? Still it's got loads of room, so no more squashing my cloth nappies up with the wipes crammed on top of them to try and fit it all in.
Probably even space for me to take a book out and about. this is it

no1 I personally love the Teddies, although I know some mums on here who aren't keen on them. The aqua ones are sooo pretty.

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 15:56

Ack I killed the thread. must stop droning on about nappies

cyteen · 08/01/2009 15:57

no, come over to my recommendations thread and resurrect it!

sambo303 · 08/01/2009 16:00

Ann love it, what colour did you get? I am using my old gym bag which is far too small (cos my book gets top priority )

no1 buckets recommended me easy peasy eco nappies (you get the whole set from ebay - wraps etc) and I absolutely LOVE THEM. dp loves them too . Hope you enjoy softplay and driving does not aggravate your back.

My mum was told to wean my sister at 2 weeks !!! . THis was Canada in 1969. Those were the days when you were only allowed to put on 12lbs when pregnant and you had to diet if you put on too much ..wtf?

I am dubious about these 'special' baby food things they sell us - what about grinding normal porridge oats in the liquidiser the same way you make breadcrumbs??

alittlebitshy · 08/01/2009 16:02

for a a moment i thought I was going mad miamla but then i found this and realised my memories of weaning dd were not that faded lol. I thought ready brek was ok not too far into the process of weaning. I wlll still look at baby porridge and see though.

sambo303 · 08/01/2009 16:06

mmm ready brek, loved those ads in the 80s of the glowing child

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 16:26

cyteen I have posted on your thread, and think a few have posted on there since

sambo - I got the 'Ocean Stripe' (the blue stripy one)
About weaning - I don't think I'm going to use baby rice, but is baby porridge ok? They're made of oats and babis aren't supposed to have gluten etc until 6 months, or do people think a little bit can't hurt?

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 16:27

Oh - I think I'm going to try holding off on solids for a couple more weeks at least. I don't think I'll be able to put it off for too long, judging by the way he's been grabbing at my food, but I have to admit I'm reluctant to give up the exclusive bf.

Miamla · 08/01/2009 17:11

albs, sorry, forgot for a moment that you're a second timer so feel free to completely ignore me!
DS has had a meal of mashed potato, mashed carrot, and a couple of big bits of carrot and potato to play/mush himself
He actually starting laughing at me during lunch and he seems content enough now so i must be doing something right

sambo, that was the suggestion i was given ie blending normal porridge oats so they're smoother. but you know what, i'm tempted to try him on normal porridge tomorrow morning. i have a bowl of quaker oats for breakfast so i think i'll just try him on some of mine. if i do, i'll let you know how it goes!

i think the mil is cyber-stalking me... i do of course think she's lovely (hello if you're reading this!)

Miamla · 08/01/2009 17:22

no1... keep forgetting to ask you about your back. Are you anywhere near Chelmsford? the reason i ask is because i know a fantastic sports physio there. NHS physios told me i'd never walk without a stick and that i had to learn to live with the pain. James (the sports physio) sorted me out in 3 sessions. If Chelmsford's too far for you (sorry, can't remember where you are in the world!) have a look to see if there are any sports physios local to you. seriously, they seem to know what they're doing
anyway, i'm going to stop babbling now. let me know if you want James' number

VG good point, they're not meant to have cow's milk yet DOH! hmm i guess warm ebm? hmm i need to think this through a bit more. i guess i'll stick to potato and carrot for a little longer!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 17:59

ann do you have you used fleece wraps??

sambo I currently use Bimbles, bumbles and tots bots. all nippa.

miamla I in south yorkshire but thanks anyway. I am thinking about seeing a physio. My dh went to one near us. Used to be physio for England football team.

vg good luck with the weaning,I hope he takes to it.

I did a mixture of puree and finger foods with dd. Think pear was the first fruit
She also loved sweet potatoe, strange how she doesnt now. Think they prefer sweet as bm is sweet.

oohhhhhhhh VG tell me your idea lol
there may be a slight spanner in my cunning plan (which is DH having to work at T in the Park ) but we'll see. its still on the drawing board. The PIL are also going away on a cruise from 12th to 20th but apparently its ok for us to use their house lovely offer but not really the point

made it into town to ditch exchange some of the dc's christmas presents, I sometimes wonder what the hell my kids look like by the things people buy me as gifts - I don't mean to sound ungrateful but really not my kind of thing at all

Miamla · 08/01/2009 18:18

yay, well done DS2! but i know what you mean about feeling like you've failed. i feel the same but my instinct was telling me to give him more than bm. and now i have, i don't regret it. What does DS2 weigh now?

lol sazz good for your friend

VG I really don't think you have failed in the slightest, its a guideline so people don't start putting baby rice in their bottles at 3wks you've done a fantastic job and the wee man is as handsome and strapping because of it

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 18:22

No1 - no I haven't used fleece wraps at all. Only wraps I have are the Airflows. I know they're the best, but I do wish they were a little bit funkier. ho well. My sister uses fleece wraps at night I think.
