CaptainCaveman · 08/01/2009 11:15

ts I have some gorgeous pate here if you fancy? Chicken liver with something or other - dh has chucked the label away so not sure what it is, but it is very nice

cyteen · 08/01/2009 11:28

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAZZLES!

no1 how is your back today? It sounds utterly miserable. You may remember (because I was on here moaning about it all the time) that I put my back out when DS was about 3 weeks old and it was such a nightmare - I felt like a complete failure not being able to pick him up or walk him about half the time. Am praying it doesn't happen again as he is such a biffer these days.

sambo yay for tights although I can recommend H&M socks for staying-on power, they're the only ones I've tried that don't flip off instantly. My SIL got us a lovely pair of Robeez shoes for Joe, but we didn't get much wear out of them as he is growing so fast.

Sympathies to VG for ongoing crap sleep I feel slightly bad for saying that all was good here - down at 7.30, shouted for a top-up at 8.30, then nothing till midnight, then slept 1am-7am

Today I find myself contemplating switching to cloth nappies...I might post a recommendations request thread in a bit.

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 12:02

Oooh - another prospective clothie! go for it Cyteen love the cloth!
I've turned into a bit of a cloth nappy activist now Seb's girlfriend's mum is switching to cloth so I had to meet her yesterday to show her how it's done as she's never used them before. Seb and the little lady were very happy to see each other and sat with their heads touching, drooling cooing and smiling at each other. He looks so huge next to her though. But then she is a tiny gorgeous little thing.

PetitFilou1 · 08/01/2009 12:19

Hi all
Happy Birthday to Sazzles never too early in the day for champagne

Having a short respite here as Tobes is not feeling well after last jabs so went to bed with some calpol 2 1/2 hours ago. Poor little bean. He has also lost weight due to being so ill over Christmas and is now between 9th and 25th centile when he was tracking the 50th. I am not worried (honest ) but please send him putting on weight vibes.

Now dizzy seeing as you are FISG, can you do finding nice 'man in their sixties' pyjamas for my dad that aren't made of something horrible and synthetic for his birthday?. Thanks in advance

Also, following on from the Phil and Kirstie conversation, can I just say I really love that woman from Hotel Inspector/Country House Rescue. She talks straight and swears but is still somehow really nice and she has dress sense. I have decided I'd like to work for her

cyteen · 08/01/2009 12:28

Aww, poor Tobes

Ann i knew you would appear at the mention of cloth! over the last few days i've found myself looking at DS's bottom during nappy changes and being sad at all the crease marks left by his dispo's. just seems like cloth might be a bit kinder and comfier (not to mention cheaper).

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 12:50

morning all

Many Happy Returns Sazz hope your day panning out smoothly

CC think we should just wait until it definately turns up before making arrangements

pf shall get onto it for you - is there a budget?! hope Toby feeling better soon and shall send him all the weight I am planning on loosing this week

VG I hate to say it but he's not hungry is he? I know Dylan has benefitted from her food (read I have benefitted from her sleep there ) having had 3 large babies, Dylan is the one I exclusively fed for longest and I'm not sure I could've gone much longer - please don't find me preachy, just a suggestion

my amazon order arrived today - I have purchased 'How to talk so your kids will listen' as am getting a bit anxious about how DD2 and I are communicating - two copies in the order (have apparently ordered it twice) do you think thats an sign trying to tell me something about my parenting skills [meep]

AnnVan · 08/01/2009 12:58

lol cyteen am I really that bad? I do agree that cloth seems so much comfier, being fluffy rather than crinkly.

Dizzy what do you start your babies on with solids? DP not keen on baby rice, having heard that it has arsenic in it.

My Amazon order arrived today - brand new changing bag yay. So much more spacious than the boots one that I've been using.

alittlebitshy · 08/01/2009 13:04

ooh what changing bag ann?

just getting this on my active threads...

ds calling....

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 13:10

breast milk mixed with some organic baby porridge

she's been grabbing/nibbling at a ricecake today too

Sibh · 08/01/2009 13:18

Dizzy, I will happily buy the spare copy off you. I was looking at it on Amazon last night .

I'm fairly certain roaring at full blast isn't going to be one of the recommendations. I've tested it under scientific conditions and it doesn't work.

Sibh · 08/01/2009 13:20

from you, not off you.
My inner pedant kicked in a bit late ....

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 13:22

lol Sibh, consider it yours

now while you're here can you recommend nice self catering places in Eire for over the summer

Sibh · 08/01/2009 13:33

Ooh, whereabouts?
If you are over visiting the PILs, then trecking down to West Cork might not be an option. decent website here www.glengarriff.ie/

Got to run but will think about options for you ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY sazzles! Enjoy your day...>

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 13:46

Happy birthday sazzles have a lovely day. I agree lunch and takeaway grin]

Cyteen back bit better today thanks. yeah for cloth nappies. I wouldnt turn back now. Really happy, although I need to purchase more as ds just growing out of some.I really want to try some different ones but havnt a clue what.

ann think I am gonna go for some teddies, I sorted my problem with the leaking fluffles, I was using a shit old donated wrap. Motherease are by far the best so far...So glad you got some sleep.

vg sorry for your rough night and lack of sleep. It really is a killer. I have read that if babies sleep well, then start waking frequently could e a sign for solids, no idea if this is true.

I did have a good night Marcus woke once at 5.Then when he woke at 8 I brought him in with us fed him and we had another hour.
Only because dd was staying over at dsis.

sambo I adore those footless tight things. I agree with rotter tights are good, I also got sick of losing socks when ever I picked him up.

alittlebitshy · 08/01/2009 13:51

I bought that book 2 yrs ago - it's still sititng in the pile next to my bed Must read it when i've got some energy cos atm my style is similar to sibh's roaring at full blast. As a result dd told me she hates me yesterday v sad mummy. I need some more quality time with dd. she adores ds but I think is feeling very put upon cos far too oftne her needs have to come second At age 5 and a half we're having some horrendous tanrtums In about 4 weeks she and I are off to see Jospeh - a present form my parents. She's beeen dying to do for ages!!!!! I can't wait. She'll be singing in the aisles.

genuine question - how does baby porridge differ from our porridge??? Am i right that come 6 months you can be mroe rlaxed with gluten etc anyhow (from my days of when dd was weaned at 17 weeks) so Ready Brek might do???

Was it no1 who pomderd giving formula rather than weaning early? As you know we've bene giving ds a bottle of formula at bedtime since about 6 weeks. That was the only one he had, but over the last few weeks of night horrors we have done lots of head banging thinking and for the last 2 nights have introduced a bottle when he wakes at 11/12 ish. I may be counting my chickens but the night wakings have goen down a bit since then - in fact last night after that bottle I didn;t have to feed him again til 7am whereas it's been maybe 3 am and/or 5 am (plus a few rockings to sleep) in the last few days... I think he is ready to wean. he is 24 weeks so either this weekend or next we may we go for it!!!! Think that as he needs food fast (he is the size of a 9 month old) I wonlt do BLW - i'll do good old mushing the food, with soem finger foods thrown in for good measure....

Another question. I am most certainly not FPG when it comes to getting him to sleep. He will go down reliably and easily at bedtime and for naps (though sometimes middle of night is mroe troublesome) - but he is always cuddled to sleep. SOmetimes I cna put him down just before he drops off, he'll moan, rub eyes and fall asleep (though sometimes will roar and have to be picked up - argh). I'm creating a rod for our backs aren't i? we know we need to tackle him settling himself bt i fele that not while he's still got hos cough, when we're not far off weaning etc..... Maybe at 8 months? But how??? Don't like hims howling in bed

Sorry not rellied to everyone - need to keep up with this more. I read it and think of everyone but seem to be losing time!!

alittlebitshy · 08/01/2009 13:52

ooh tights - i was thinking about those for ds. Must get some. got rid of all dd's - plus pink isn;t ds's style....

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 14:01

albs firstly sorry about your dd I know what you mean its hard to kn ow who to deal with first.
Had a ew jealousy issues here with dd, but at 23 months she still only young and desnt understand everything. I hope you both enjoy Joseph together.

Yes it was me who pondered extra milk like ff top up instead of weaning. I also feel he not ready for solids just yet, although I do think he is hungrier. so opted for more feeds/milk.
re sleep.i did get strict and leave him to whinge/moan a little. dont like`leaving him to scream.
last night took 35 minutes to settle. i didnt hear a thing till 5am from 8pm.

dizzydixies · 08/01/2009 14:11

VG I certainly wouldn't see it as giving in to food, you've done fantastically well considering what a lovely big boy he was DD1 was the same weight as E and she started on solids at 18wks I think (this was 5rys ago when it was expected though) and DD2 who was larger still was a bit older

its worth considering and if it doesn't help then you can always stop/slow down/ not bother etc

ALBS please don't take it to heart, I think 5.5 is a difficult age - you're a little fish in a big pond at school and she's probably just heard some bigger child say it in passing and repeated it in a moment of frustration - Joseph sounds great though - what a lovely present and my goodness I cannot believe he is 24wks

how on earth did we get here to having all these 'grown up' babies

No1 have you tried a hot water bottle in his cot before you put him down so its cosey? how is your back today?

VG am considering all sorts of ideas for the summer - one of which is driving over, spending a few days with PIL [meep] then heading south to Wicklow area where I can see my friend and godson - I would probably want to hire somewhere though as her house is small and immaculate but she could come and stay with me and the girls if that makes sense? all depends on price and dates though

it doesn't need to be fancy, just somewhere clean and warm that if its nice I can chuck open the doors and they can run out into the garden

DH's holidays are unfortunately not at the same time as DD1's school holidays apart from her last week so it would be sooner in the summer - fortunately there are direct Dundee - Belfast flights so he can hop off home for work after a VERY SHORT visit to his parents - is half an hour unreasonable?!?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 14:17

me and my dsis were discussing weaning,as she thought ds could be ready, however after seeing the whole calpol performance, she decided maybe not.
She weaned her dd at 11 weeks. 13years ago.

alittlebitshy · 08/01/2009 14:23

a friend of mine weaned all hers at 12 weeks - her first who is 14 at 11 weeks. Isn't it amazing how advice changes in a relatively short time?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/01/2009 14:30

yes, thats why it is so difficult to get advice from my dsis, mum and step mum, as they all weaned early, prepared bottles in advance in the fridge etc...
When I tell them guide lines have changed, they tell me I am pathetic, and that I should ignore it all and get on with it.
