thanks hh

5gomad 2 nights away doing nothing , sounds like bliss, ho lovely to have someone else making your breakfast, and cleaning your bathroom

AliandHerScallywag · 11/01/2009 18:53

Deb with the chair I turn it upside down hold onto the legs with my hands and stamp on the tray. Amazingly it does not break the chair. There are whole threads devoted to this subject on MN. If you don't have the inflatable pads I can post you ours as we haven't used it. Peter has plenty of his own padding.

HH I bought an oil cloth to put under the high chair. With this P was allowed to eat over my Mums carpets.

Five, don't know specific hotels but Broadway and Painswick are both lovely places. I grew up in Gloucestershire so know the area quite well.

Essie, glasvegas and (was it) Sybil with reluctant eaters. Sympathies especially with the added pressure of returning to work. Must be horrible.

Essie, also wanted to say that I hope I haven't offended you with the BLW talk or comments like the one above refering to P being a big baby. I wouldn't want to offend and apologies if I have.

DebInAustria · 11/01/2009 19:11

Thanks Ali - think I'll keep the tray on for the moment and save the hassle until we decide to take it off completely. it's pretty easy to clean with the tray attached though isn't it? Thanks for the offer of the inflatable seat but I don't think we need it, he's ok in it just a bit wobbly, the highchair he was using was slightly reclined which meant that he didn't move around so much. I think he just thought today - yippee, freedom

Anyone else just getting their 1st period? I had awful pains last week, hot water bottle pains, all day but no period. It started today so it must have been ovulation pains, never used to get them.

hedgehog1979 · 11/01/2009 19:42

deb I have my third period since Isaac was born at the moment. I was looking forward to being able to be period free for a bit longer.

Ali I have some wipeclean tablecloth which is under the highchair, but Isaac seems determined to be a cricketer/rugby player as he can throw things outside of the range of the cloth now. Also interesting to know how you remove your tray from your highchair.

Right off to do bed and bath now, then I think I shall have a bath myself with a nice glass of wine.

Hi, I finally have internet again! BT were completely incompetent and hooked our phone up to the home alarm system, lovely. But we're settled into the house and really loving having more space.

We're in a small village outside of Aberdeen now so I'm getting out every day with the boys for lovely walks in forests or through fields. It's heavenly! I have to walk as Fraser will only have his daytime naps in the buggy these days, but that's good for walking off the Christmas weight

I've not caught up with everyone but I did notice lots of complaints about bad nights - we're still up twice a night but we're use to that now. We had a couple horrible nights while Fraser got his two bottom teeth (within 3 days of each other!) but we're back to normal now. Hope everyone else is coping okay.

spongebrainbigpants · 11/01/2009 19:55

Hi all, just marking my space!

Ali, love the method of getting the tray off!

Can't wait to see some of the London Ladies on Tuesday!

Bye for now !!

Amberc · 11/01/2009 20:59

Hi All, for those of you that can bottle feed, may I recommend Hipp Organic Bedtime milk - it's like knockout juice! Used it the last few nights and Luke has got to the end of the bottle and fallen asleep within minutes. Also Mark said that he didn't wake up at all at the nappy change at 11pm although did drink his milk and then just passed out again until 5.45. Great stuff especially when like mine your LO doesn't eat much in the way of solids.

Can I ask a question about teething to those of you with teeth? What happens, do you just wake up one morning and they are there? How much comes through at first - can you tell? Are there signs that they are imminent as Luke seems to have been teething since conception!

neenztwinz · 11/01/2009 21:54

Amber, I felt that way too - it seemed to take forever, but esther got her first tooth today (Theo got his first a few days ago). It was weird because she has been whingy with red cheeks and drooling loads so I felt her gums at tea time - no teeth, then about an hour later MIL said 'she's got a tooth!' and she did... you can tell when you put your finger over the gum, it will feel sharp. Can't see much but can definitely feel it.

Love the Bedtime Milk talk! Maybe they put Medised in it

Aberdeen, good to have you back, your walks sound bliss!

HH, your bath sounds bliss too!

5, you definitely deserve that break! Hope you find somewhere nice

The Ikea chair, I never take the tray off and haven't found that any food stains it, but it is easier to clean if you clean straight away (which I don't always do )

DebInAustria · 11/01/2009 22:21

Amber, at first the gum might be a bit more red, then sometimes you can see the white of the tooth just below the surface, then it just breaks through and continues to grow. Ethan has 1 bottom one fully through, the next bottom one broke through today and the 2 top ones are already just showing through the gum.

HH - hope you had a good bath

Abdn - glad you're all settled in your new home, I was wondering how you were getting on.

Neenz - thanks for the tips for the highchair.

Essie3 · 11/01/2009 22:28

Can I add to the Ikea antilop tray talk - DON'T try to get it off when your baby is in the tray.
But Ali could also add that when turning the chair upside down make sure your baby isn't in it! If anyone wants a table for their chair, we have a spare which we don't use.
Ali, no offence caused, and LOL that comments about Peter's hugeness size would offend. I actually find it hilarious that there's only a day between them, and in Iestyn's favour!! Iestyn is going to have to learn to be extremely polite. Obviously, I'm not going try to compete in the growth stakes or anything.
We've actually ordered a travel highchair for Iestyn - it's dead cool. Thing is, he's too small for highchairs that are provided normally. He was sliding under the table and out of the one at the Little Chef today.

5GoMad I second Ali with Painswick. We stayed in a lovely pub (!) there a couple of years ago. It's a great quiet town with nothing much happening!
I was going to offer a bed in my house on Anglesey - I love hosting people! But then I remembered that you run a b&b and I might not be up to scratch. But I do have a spare room, and nothing happens here!

We're back here btw, and it's stormy. Can't stand up outside!

Essie3 · 11/01/2009 22:32

Also Deb, you're right. We stopped trying to get Iestyn to take a bottle. I won't try again but leave him at the nursery and they can sort him out. Hell, I'm paying enough!

abdnhiker · 12/01/2009 08:55

Essie glad you're easing off with the bottle. We struggled so much with DS1 and he never did take a bottle from us but did at nursery without any problems.

neenz the walks are heaven... I'm so disappointed when it's rainy now.

Amberc When the tooth comes through it's very very sharp - you wont miss it with your fingers but you might not be able to see it! For us the only real notice we had was that Fraser had a couple really horrible nights of sleep. completely unable to settle!

AliandHerScallywag · 12/01/2009 09:12

Morning.

Agree with Neenz about not taking the tray off. I have only done it 3 times and it cleans perfectly well with the tray on. If it does need a thorough clean, I saw that one MNetter takes the legs off and can put the whole chair and tray with straps still attached in her dishwasher!

AH congrats on the house move, so impressed that it happened so quickly in the current market. Sounds like you have moved somewhere lovely.

Peter slept amazingly well last night for the first half not waking at all between 7 and 1, then it was grim for the rest of the night. I don't understand babies. Maybe he will produce a tooth today, but I doubt it.

hedgehog1979 · 12/01/2009 09:32

morning all,

My bath last night was lush, but I missed three calls from FIL, He had called at 5 to 8 and I told him that we were about to start bath time. He said he would call back but I forgot and so he left three messages on the answer phone - asking when we are going to go and see him. Annoying really as he has come shopping to Crawley, where we live and not even bothered to tell us he was here, when I could have walked into town and met him for coffee or something. DH is going to call him today and say that we can't go and visit as we have no petrol in the car and have more important things to spend the money on than petrol.
AH your walks sound lovely, I would be out and about even if it was raining. I love it.
neenz I too am guilty of not cleaning the highchair straight away. Sometimes I ask DH and come down in the morning to find that it is still dirty. Have found that the easiest way is to have a pack of disinfectant wipes rather than a cloth.
essie LOL at not taking the tray off when baby is in the highchair.
ali sorry about your night, Hope peter is ok for you today.

whinegums · 12/01/2009 10:25

Hi everyone, Aberdeen, glad you are settled in to your new house, being able to get out and about for walks sounds great (although I know how dreich it can be!).

We have the Antilop too, I've never bothered taking the tray off. Doesn't seem to get stained orange although the inflatable cushion does. Second Hedgehog, I use Flash wipes to give it a once over. If it gets really bad, I'll hose it down in the shower!

Scottish contingent - most days are ok for me apart from Tuesday (not til early afternoon anyway) as we have Waterbabies - as does Katyjo.

Sympathies to others having crap nights - B eventually went a bit longer than 2 hours without waking up, but I had given him Medised last night - he just wouldn't settle and was screaming. More in discomfort than stroppiness (which he does quite often!) so I thought sod it, and gave him a dose. He's still feeding every 3 hours during the night (there should be a knackered face emoticon). I tried the Hipp Bedtime Milk last week - had a free sample - but he won't take a bottle at the moment either.

Glasvegas and Essie, hope you get the bottle problems sorted.

Quick wave to everyone else x

neenztwinz · 12/01/2009 13:41

Essie, when do you go back to work?

I had a morning of no MN or FB this morning (after more 'jokey' comments from DH about the state of the house ) - so I did some cleaning/tidying etc and feel much better for it. Tidy house tidy mind or something like that? And I feel I have 'earned' my computer time now!

I had a little nap at 10am tho when the DTs were having their sleep!

HH, tell FIL you are available any time if he wants to come to you!

pleasechange · 12/01/2009 14:11

Hi all - I've also had a morning free from MN. Unfortunatly unlike neenz I haven't actually done anything useful though!

Alexander has his first tooth coming though - hopefully that is what behind all the terrible nights recently

whinegums - up until 3 days ago, A was also feeding v regularly during the night. We are now doing dreamfeed at 11pm, then no feed until 4ish. He does wake around 2am but I only give him water and he goes back to sleep. I'm really hoping he'll soon stop waking up for this. I've got to say there is no way this would have been possible though while bf as A was such a snacker when bf. I really sympathise that B won't take bottles and hope you get a solution soon

ali sympathies on your tough night

Well after all my stressing, my manager agreed to do the flexible hours discussion over the phone and it's Weds - fingers crossed!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 12/01/2009 14:16

Hi all,

DS is sick. He threw up all over himself at the creche this morning and now had diariah whist eating his luch. He seems very happy though but I'm waiting for the lunch to return - YUK

hedgehog1979 · 12/01/2009 15:53

neenz we have made it abundantly clear that he is welcome at any time as long as he lets us know when, but he is a PITA and DH is an only child so I know we have some leverage, but DH is not keen to use it in case it backfires

have just seen a posting re ff (second thread in about two days that has annoyed me on this)that has really hacked me off ...(sponge look away).

God knows why its got to me now (maybe cos of judgey cow who looked at me strangely for mentioning bottles at baby swimming yesterday) but I really thought being in 21st century, feminism etc that we were meant to be more supportive of others choices. Well how wrong was I...

Am seriously thinking about whether I can be arsed with mn anymore. stupid fuckers in RL are one thing but on the net is another thing, life is too short -it really saddens me as people on here were so fantastic and supportive at time when I needed it

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/01/2009 16:19

Don't go Poppy you know you can hide the topic don't you.

poppy34 · 12/01/2009 16:42

ah -good point 5gomad... will do that - and haven't forgotten your request...

I think I may be grumpy as my archers addction not being satisfied by current storylines (also chocolate biscuits have helped calm me down)
