hi moosemama, lennied, last night (2nd night) was a bit better than the first night. DS feeds roughly every 3 hours. i just read about drinking fennel tea. DS is windy so i might try drinking this tea.

about hormones, the time when i feel the most anxious is in the mornings. anyone else like this? but once i see sunlight, my mood does lift. i wonder how mums of twins cope! i take my hat off to them!

i had postnatal depression after the birth of my first child, so this time, i was put on anti depressants a week or so before i had my baby. i think it is working because i feel quite normal most of the time

moosemama · 19/01/2009 12:41

Hi Heron, Glad to hear things are improving. 3 hr gap sounds amazing, DS2 was like that, nicely spaced quick feeds from the off, this one feeds with a 2hr gap from start of one feed to the start of the next regardless of the size or length of the previous feed. Tis just a tad tiring. Told DH I feel like I'm having my life force drained out of me this morning.

We seem to have conquered the wind problem for now. Now if we could just get the little madam to realise we are not nocturnal creatures I would be feeling a lot better.

That said, I still can't help myself lying gazing at her when I should be taking the opportunity to sleep! She is just sooo gorgeous (Mummy goggles are amazing things aren't they?!)

Got some icky questions for Tree later, assuming she doesn't go into labour in the meantime, but for now am off for a soak in the bath to ease me aches and pains. Will check back later.

Hello, i just thought i would post my birth story...

Wednesday evening i was very anxious because of the booked induction 8am Thursday morning. At about 8.30pm i decided to have a bath, it was quite a hot bath. As i got out the bath i had a very prominant 'show.'

I went to bed and 15 minutes after the show i felt a small contraction! I said to dp it could just be the baby pressing against me, i didn't want to get my hopes up because i had had so many "Is the it...?" moments over the last few weeks.

About 9 or 10 minutes later i had another contraction. I layed in bed with my eyes shut and kept an eye on the time incase anymore contractions came. They came every 8 - 9 minutes from then on, not getting closer together but getting stronger. At about 11pm i put my tens machine on. I remember thinking as i had it on A4 setting, i couldn't imagine having on C30

The contractions kept coming every 8 minutes from then on, i kept drifting off to sleep in between, i was very tired. At about 1pm i took off the tens machine because it was annoying me in between contactions when i was drifting to sleep. I don't know how but i managed to sleep for an hour Then at about 2pm the contactions were getting alot stronger.

At about 3.30am, i woke dp up and said the contractions were strong. Dp rang the unit at 4pm to tell them i was in labour and they said to wait until the contractions were about 3 - 4 minutes apart before coming in. They were 7 minutes apart at that point so we stayed put at home and put my tens machine back on.

By 5.30am they were 4 minutes apart and i said to dp i wanted to go to the hospital. He took what felt like an age to get dressed. The car journey wasn't too bad, i just stayed silent and focused on my tens machine.

We arrived at the hospital at 6am. I was 7cm dialated! I thought they were going to say i was 1cm or something. I remember thinking how happy i was that i had got that far on just a tens machine. I was given gas and air but took a couple of gasps and threw up. I hated it this time so didn't have any more.

I led on the bad on my side and it seemed once i was in one position, moving out of it was too painful. I was given half a dose of pethedine, the midwife said i was so close that a I did manage to get up and have a walk around the room though and the midwife wanted me to go to the toilet to empty my bladder. I sat down on the loo and pushed a little because i thought i was going to do a poo but it wasn't a poo, a gush came out and my waters had broken! I think the modwife was relieved they broke on the toilet and not the floor.

I went back into the delivery room and they hired the bed so i could lean over it. By this time my tens was on C30 and the boost button constantly. The midwife said to push whenever i had the urge to and i managed a couple of pushes leaning over the bed.

I led back down on my side on the bed and done a few more pushes. Then i rolled on my back, another push and the head was crowning! I felt like my bits were on fire they were burning so much. I had to do a couple more pushes to get his head out and some little pushes for his body and that was it! At 9.54am Finley was born.

Spink · 19/01/2009 15:46

argh I've just (ick) managed to grab the chance to brush my teeth. what a day. ds has an ear infection again and is so out of sorts, really clingy and tantrumy and NOT SLEEPING. Yelled and sobbed til late last night, lucky that my parents were here to jiggle Rosie while she screamed for a feed.. not a peaceful house yestereve!!
dh has the day off today and just taken ds out for a little fresh air. Rosie luckily is being a gem, except for being difficult to wind - fennel tea is on my shopping list. If I ever manage to get dressed and out of the house. She also has horrible nappy rash. Tried kamillosan but doesn't seem to be helping. Anything else anyone can recommend??

hey heron, glad the 2nd night was better. hope it keeps going that way!
qumps well done for keeping on with the feeding. I've got the bf counsellor coming tomorrow, the boobs seem to be recovering a little though I'm back to the nip shield on the right side. just have to take it a day at a time, don't we..
moose ooh can't we hear your TMI questions? i love a good bit of tmi

Spink · 19/01/2009 15:50

msS - fab birth story, sounds like you managed brilliantly! isn't it lovely to be able to look back on it instead of imagining what it might be...
Thinking of posting mine even tho it was nearly 2 weeks ago - feels important to record it somewhere doesn't it.. hmm, might tonight if there is some down time

MsSparkle · 19/01/2009 15:52

Sorry i need to edit that;I was given half a dose of pethedine, the midwife said i was so close that a full dose would have been too much and would have made the baby drowsy. I did manage to get up and have a walk around the room though and the midwife wanted me to go to the toilet to empty my bladder. I sat down on the loo and pushed a little because i thought i was going to do a poo but it wasn't a poo, a gush came out and my waters had broken! I think the modwife was relieved they broke on the toilet and not the floor.

MsSparkle · 19/01/2009 16:03

I have edited it now so it makes more sense

This birth was so different from my dds birth. I cannot believe how different it is being induced and doing it without being induced. With my dd it went from nothing to continous very painful contractions. This time it was nice to get a couple of minutes break in between contractions and they were no where near as strong.

I am happy i didn't need an epidural like i did with my dd and very proud i did it was just on my tens machine and half a dose of pethedine. I had no tearing either! I just feel so lucky that after a traumatic birth with dd, i managed to get a positive birth with my son. He is such a lovely, contanted little baby.

treedelivery · 19/01/2009 16:30

Miss Sparkle - a great story it sounds so calm! I'll take one of those please!

Qumps - you're exactly right about more the better, breast milk is 'dose specific', so any is great and more the better. So thats good to hear for anyone who has fed. Dunno if you'll stretch out bwyond 2hrly feeds though - your in growth spurt territory and I know 2 hourly is considered in vouge amongst 8-12 week olds!

get the story down Spink!

Am awaiting questions Moose!
Heron22 - do you have big full boobs in the am? I felt an unsettled loon if I had loads of milk on board and always felt calmer after gettting it out and tripping on milky hormones. [I think you are a bf if not then ignore my ramlings ]

LenniEd · 19/01/2009 16:51

MsSparkle - sounds lovely, and glad you've written it down, I'm already losing bits and pieces of what it all felt like.

Does it matter if I never feel like boobs are very full anymore? Apart from during night that is. DS feeding loads during day and boobs feel pretty squidgey most of time. Milk everywhere at night though. He's poo-ing loads and loads of wet nappies so that's good enough right??

Spink - hope you are ok there, 'tis hard juggling 2 isn't oit. Talking of which... I've currently got one on my shoulder for a sleep and one on my lap doing row the boar. AArrgghh! Hope your DS better soon.

LenniEd · 19/01/2009 16:52

Glad night 2 was better heron

fourlittlefeet · 19/01/2009 19:44

Sparkle, what a wonderful story. Am gearing up to write mine down!

Lenni, sounds great that your boobs are settling down during the day. When I was able to pump around 6 ounces, they felt completely normal, so don't worry there is not enough!

Hugo is an absolute dote so far, surviving on very little attention (from us, we want to sleep!) and lots of adoration (from DD). Too early to say whether we have another angel baby (baby whisperer), but he is such a good latch, sleeper and pooer, that I think we are onto a winner... fingers crossed.

I'm feeling extremely weird, don't like the whole swollen down under feeling, though a thousand times better than after the c-section and lovely to be home, albeit looking after a very energetic toddler (ok, so she was at nursery today, but still).

Off to consider birth story. Soooo happy to be on this side.

rrrayray · 19/01/2009 19:50

Congrats to you all.... very Can't Wait to be on this side!

MsSparkle Great birth Story!

Lots of love to you yummy mummies from us preggies still stuck on antenatal thread! xxx

LenniEd · 19/01/2009 19:54

Nice to have you here flf

That was meant to be "Row the Boat" earlier - row the boar!! What planet am I on!

The swollen feeling will go soon FLF, after about a week or so it will be just sore rather than swollen and ouchy and then by about 2 weeks you'll feel close to normal ime. Last time I took about 6 weeks to be confident everything was healed, but this time feel pretty much fine after 2 weeks. (Last time had loads of stiches, this time had just one)

fourlittlefeet · 19/01/2009 20:18

thanks Lenni, good to know it'll go. such a weird feeling, and impossible to sit comfortably, much less breast feed/carry a toddler. not liking the 6 month tummy either, but I know that too will pass . just doing a bit of whinging so the waiters don't feel too jealous .

treedelivery · 19/01/2009 20:31

You ok though flf?

hkz · 19/01/2009 20:50

How is it over on this 'side'? Can't wait to be here....

Miss Sparkle- Your birth story sounds so calm...it has inspired me to get the tens machine out and read the instructions...I haven't even looked at it yet and it sounds like it did a good job.

Oh Lordy...I'd forgotton all about breast feeding and sore lady bits etc..

FLF- Glad Hugo is an angel so far...DD was like that, it would be so nice to have the same experience again. How is your DD coping with her new role as big sister?
Going to see acupuncture lady tomorrow to try and get things moving...so hopefully will be over here soon.

fourlittlefeet · 19/01/2009 22:15

thanks tree, just trying to get my birth story out so that I can get embroiled in the dirty nappy threads . Sooo relieved its over and that the dreaded c-section monster didn't get me. very, very close run thing though. DP has seen some pretty amazing stuff . Also can't believe I had a male midwife, whom I really trusted and thought fantastic, yet just two weeks ago posted on a male midwife thread saying, 'sorry, not for me'. what an arse (again)!

fourlittlefeet · 19/01/2009 22:18

oh, and put a pic of him on my profile! wanted to do an arty shot, but no energy yet!

treedelivery · 19/01/2009 22:27

Ooooo I so so so so so can't wait for your story.

No pressure.......

treedelivery · 19/01/2009 22:28

OOOooh he's a bobbit! Congratulations you!

LenniEd · 20/01/2009 09:47

He's gorgeous FLF! I wasn't sure about having a male m/w either so don't worry!

CAn't wait for the atory - you've got me on tenterhooks now

Forgot to say yesterday - tea tree oil in bath, arnica tablets, frequent bathing and full dose paracetomol were all my friends after I had DD in the ladybits department. Also jug of water poured over when wee-ing to keep wee away from sore areas. I used to sit on a pillow too

qumps · 20/01/2009 11:51

gorgeous gorgeous picture flf and i too am looking forward to juicy birth story! agree with mummy goggles comment. i can't stop looking at gorgeous stanely and keep saying to my mum i know i'm biased but its not just me is it he is beautiful and of course she agrees!
spink great birth story. made me think i should write mine too for stanley. will do it after this post but no pressure for anyone to read it. just nice to know its recorded somewhere.
mum and dad have taken them BOTH out for a walk. feels strange but nice!
spink poor poor you. thats my worst nightmare a sick toddler and a screaming baby. hope things re getting better and glad you have some help.

heron22 · 20/01/2009 12:57

hi treedelivery, my boobs get really full when it is close to 3 hours since baby last fed. baby is now a week old. my milk came in on day 4. today i expressed milk and got about 60 mls and took 30 mins.

for the last 2 nights now, DS just did not settle after the 2am feed. we got so desperate at around 4am that DH said you get some sleep, i will give DS some SMA. DS took 80 mls and fell asleep till 8am. so i wonder if that means that my milk was low at 2am cos i was just so knackered?

will giving him SMA top up at night make my milk decrease???

I am a total novice on the breastfeeding (couldn't feed DD) so can't really offer any help Heron. If it's any use though my DS is feeding a lot at the moment, including feeding every hour from 12midnight to 5am last night. The little fattie has put on 0.5kg in the last week though so am no longer concerned about my squishy boobs and am taking it as a good sign as FLF said.
