Gingeme · 12/01/2009 15:54

mixedmamma you are joking aren't you? Do you realy not know what one is?

rockdoctor · 12/01/2009 15:57

Mixedmama you're so right, the birth stories are making me all emotional as well.

Mine was almost the same as Housemum except I went home in the afternoon and got back to the hospital at around 7pm - with 30 minutes to spare before DD popped out. Will know better next time... I remember one huge contraction in the car just before we got to the hospital when I told DH that there was no way I could walk and he'd have to wheel me in. I also remember telling the midwife when we arrived to forget the paperwork as I needed to push... like NOW. Came home the following afternoon.

mixedmama · 12/01/2009 16:06

Gingme - honestly no idea

JustKeepSwimming · 12/01/2009 16:12

Lol Gingeme - go on then, see if you can notch up another convert

Hi rockdoctor

Yes all the stories bringing a little tear to my eye. Can't actually wait to do it all again - well the tiny baby bit, not the em c-s bit, obv!!
And reading through the old threads, all the 'am i, aren't i, in labour' thoughts.

Off to get the boys from nursery in a bit. Work was quiet, so came home early to do bits at home instead. Have been good and resisted MN done lots!
But having a cup of tea and sorting laundry now, while MNing obv

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2009 16:34

Hey ladies, sitting here (on my ball) whilst DS is having a nap (or meant to be) desperately trying to soothe my groin muscles must have been one move too far for Mummy in the park this morning and I had to hobble all the way home, it?s agony!

Nicky ? I?d love the name of that company if you can find it thanks!

Lucky ? If I were in the UK I?d agree with you about bagging the nappies and taking them out when you go out being sufficient but over here, I just need more distance from them even for short periods of time!! No chance of getting one for free here. Maybe I should just get a bucket with a lid?? you are very soft but it?s totally understandable!

Mixedmama ? how lovely for Ediz to have new clothes , must get some new ones for Xavier, a lot of his trousers are embarrassingly short! Thanks for your thoughts on the double buggy, very helpful I agree that using a sling sounds like a sensible option, but I just can?t see it happening. I tried DS in a sling here (Spain) in May and we were both far too hot, there is no way I can use one for the other summer months. I also don?t have the option of waiting until B2 arrives either as I have to get a double buggy from the UK (I have exhausted all options here already) and my MIL needs to bring it over for me mid May. That also means I cannot go and test drive them either which is a shame but I?ll send some buddies to do that for me! I?ve heard that complaint you made about the tandem ones quite a lot already, worth noting. At the mo I am looking at the First Wheels City Elite Twin, seems to tick a lot of my boxes but I need to research it more. I just can?t get my head round the whole Phil & Ted?s concept, especially in the heat so I have ruled out that make for me.

Simpson ? good point about the pooey nappy, hadn?t thought of that! I?ve only got the Bugaboo at the mo (my beloved!) we have a tiny flat and I cannot see me having 4 buggies though in reality, that is probably what I need but being realistic, I will be alone with both DC most of the time and will spend a lot of time out and about on foot so think that a double buggy is probably the most practical. It?s a good point you make though and it might be worth me trying to locate a cheap umbrella for Xavier for when DH is around and I could try having B2 in a sling. Thing is, to afford a new double buggy, I do need to sell the bugaboo The point you made about the P&Ts is also a good one, I need a big shopping basket at the bottom, my bugaboo is fab for that! Will have a look at that nipper 360, thanks.

Lily ? ah that?s lovely what Lucky?s DP said, its run shivers down my spine! thanks for sharing! Thanks for the nappy bin tip too I hadn?t realised your DD?s birthdays were so close! Happy birthday for DD1 for tomorrow . My sister?s birthday is 5/12 and mine is 29/12 and we always had a joint party on her birthday.

JKS ? sorry to hear you are missing DH thanks for all your buggy thoughts. I?m a big fan of Boden (though can only afford sale stuff now) all seems to last well including the kids stuff. I can?t believe that the MW hadn?t realised that Henry was breech! that happened to a friend and she went though so much (like you) only for it all to change course at the end. Here they give you a scan on your due date which I think is quite a good idea from a mechanics point of view!

Housemum ? enjoyed reading your birth story! I had DS in the same position as you and I think it helped having a clock above the bed, I think I was trying to race myself! lovely about being home for DD2, that?s my biggest fear this time round, how will DS feel and how much I?ll miss him if I am away from him especially as DH has to stay with me here for as long as I am in hospital! it would have been lovely to have him there overnight with DS but I think I?d prefer he was at home with DS this time! Hey ho!

LaT ? lovely story of your friend?s! shame about the placenta! On day 3 I ?found? a large piece that had been retained, it freaked me out, luckily I was still in hospital but I was not happy! Sorry that your own story was so traumatic horrible to think you or Sabela might die . If you are getting AF you should be ovulating so hopefully BFing won?t make any difference to TTC

Hey Gingeme ? which Maclaren do you have? Ah someone else to introduce to the whole new world of Mooncups! what has Mixedmama let herself in for?!

Rockdoctor ? your story is so similar to mine!

Gingeme · 12/01/2009 18:15

LOL MrsMcJnr. Cant remember off hand wht Maclaren we have. Its brilliant though but I hate the colour. Grey booooooooooooring!!!
Mixedmamma there are plenty of threads on here about mooncups . I did in fact start a mooncup appreciation thread myself . The mooncup is a menstrual cup which you insert into the vagina and it collects the blood. You empty it every 4 hours, though I have pretty heavy periods and have emptied it after 6 hours with no leaks. Google it and youll be impressed. Youll never have to buy sanitary protection again. I have used mine for 3 cycles now and so wished I'd have discovered it years ago. Not to be used straight after birth though. Go on have a look, you know you want to I could go on about it but I won't. How many of you ladies use one?

JustKeepSwimming · 12/01/2009 18:30

Mooncup users sign in here!
Gingeme
JKS

Have only used it for 2 cycles so far but a total convert. Not sure what to do with the odd tampons, etc. i've got left...

MrsMc - i know i couldn't believe they hadn't realised he was breech either
They said afterwards that he was a 'comfortable' breech, most women complain about particular positions being uncomfy to sit in but i hadn't
He was breech at 20 week scan but everybody said he had plenty of time to turn...and at subsequent MW appts they said he was head down, i never questioned it.
They were v apologetic.
Didn't/doesn't help much though

Although here there's no option other than c-s for breech anyway but i may have been able to fight to try a vaginal delivery in hospital with the MWs support.

anyway, water under the bridge now. Will def ask for a late scan next time and am armed with more determination to do things my way.
Watch out MWs!!

I love some boden stuff, have bought some size 10, purple moleskin trousers to aim for before summer

I must get round to getting a lightweight single buggy, have needed it several times and the P&T is heavy, i agree.
What is the lightest buggy, anyone know? Anyone got one of those £15-ish ones, are they any good?

right, bathtime for boys, don't feel like doing it but they didn't have one last night and i'm sure i won't feel anymore like it tomorrow!

LaTrucha · 12/01/2009 18:59

Not me I'm afraid. Hmm ... Maybe when I come back from Spain.

simpson · 12/01/2009 19:35

Difinately not a moon cup user here

JKS - I have a £15 ish buggy from babies r us which is ok but I could not use it every day it would do my head in as the wheels don't swivel properly. Is ok for holiday use etc and I keep it at my mum's so when we go there I don't have to bring a buggy.

Might be better to try and get a 2nd hand one or one on free cycle...

DD was breech and had to have scan at 38wks and she had turned

DD has learnt to kiss is soooo sweet and she keeps trying to kiss DS he said to me "mummy DD gives horrid kisses they are all wet"

LaTrucha · 12/01/2009 19:38

Sabela has just STOPPED giving kisses. She used to be a kiss monster. Daddy and I are missing htem . She is still afectionate but she seems to think puytting her finger up our noses is an adequate alternative. I don't quite get the same rosy glow from it.

HAppy fo ryou Simpson!

Gingeme · 12/01/2009 19:51

Lol at kisses Simpson.
George just throws himself about when we try to kiss him. Have to be careful of our eyes
Have you tried a mooncup then Simpson?

LaTrucha · 12/01/2009 20:29

GIngeme - you are a true mooncup evangelist!

Lilyloo · 12/01/2009 20:29

Evening all
Busy day still no car am wondering if garage has done something to it and daren't tell us
DD1 pressies all wrapped and dp gone to get her a helium balloon! Have buns and sweeties for pre school tom!

Gingeme am still undecided r/e mooncups but so many women rave about them on here!

madmouse · 12/01/2009 20:37

Nathan has been giving sloppy kisses for months. He talks while he kisses me too, which sounds insane . He only kisses me though, when he sits on dh's chest in the morning he leans forward and presses his face against dh's face, like an eskimo greeting, so sweet.

He's mad anyway. He can't stop dancing at the moment, whenever he is standing he dances like your dad, you know kinda twisting and shuffling. He moves backwards at the same time, it has me rolling over with laughter while still remembering to hold on to his hands . Oh, and pulling to stand in the bath, and pushing into sitting on haunches, then getting forwardonto hands and knees lapping up bathwater (I do give him drinks, honest)

LaTrucha glad you are back, I do remember your post about Sabela moving like that and suddenly things going quickly. I know now from the questions we were asked in scbu that Sabela was probably having some sort of seizure due to oxygen problems, so glad she is ok and developing so well.

I know all about the finger up your nose thing, nails scraping there ,eeeeeew.

not brave enough for a moon cup here. Do they stay in place when you cycle? Like my tampons.

Hope everyone else ok

Lucky still not posting much, off to facebook to find her

MrsMc - I forgot you weren't in UK. Doesn't apply then really. Sorry.

Just reporting in to say hi all is well. Just tired.

simpson · 12/01/2009 20:42

Gingeme - no not tried a moon cup like madmouse not brave enough

LaTrucha · 12/01/2009 20:43

MM - I didn't know that I guess we were really lucky.

LuckySalem · 12/01/2009 20:48

Ok someone once and for all explain mooncups cos personally I think its gross so someone explain it to me so I haven't got the wrong end of the stick.

Also - Remember Awen? She's getting a bit of a battering here bless her. I see her point but I see others too, just no reason for them to be nasty about it.

simpson · 12/01/2009 20:57

LaT - sounds like Sabela was very lucky...

Lilyloo - Grrrr on the car!! Is there any way garage has forgotten?

Lucky - I read that thread yesterday and was going to post but didn't have guts....poor Awen.

madmouse · 12/01/2009 21:04

LaT don't want to make it sound scarier than it was (it was scary enough ho hum ). Newborn brains are as they called it in scbu 'predisposed to fit', only something small has to go wrong and off they go. something to do with the brains being constantly changing and developing. It does not mean brain damage or anything like that

JKS ? I thought that were midwives who can deliver a breech baby, I thought it depended on experience?

Gingeme ? I?m abstaining from periods instead so far nothing since April 2007! Not convinced I?d want to use one in this heat to be honest but then again, I?ve never really looked into it.

Love all the kisses chat, DS is sometimes very interested in them and other times squirms, always loves cuddles though

simpson · 12/01/2009 21:08

I though some babies who were breech could be delivered too?

Housemum · 12/01/2009 21:09

Lucky - I don't think you have the wrong end of the stick (though would be v messy to get the wrong end of the mooncup...) They are a rubber "cup" with a short stalk attached - when you get AF pop it up to collect everything, rinse it out when you go to the loo and pop it back, I think you have to boil them to sterilise them occasionally. Not something I fancy at all - I can cope with any amount of pooey nappies or baby sick, but I'm afraid I can't get my head around the idea of mooncups. What about in public loos, unless you're in the disabled loo or a baby changing room that has a loo, the sinks are all outside the cubicles? Eek!

I saw Awen's thread last night and thought, "OMG NEVER mention your opinions or you will be flamed!" I can see why people disagree, but oh boy they can get nasty about it!

JKS - lightest buggy on the market is the MacLaren Volo - I bought one of these to use travelling on the tube with DD2, it has a carry strap so you can sling it on your shoulder while carrying toddler up escalators. But it has no recline - DD2 was OK with that, depends on your feelings/how you think your LO will be. I did notice that Silver Cross have brought out a similar one with slight recline - was in Mothercare catalogue. I'll see if I can find a link

LuckySalem · 12/01/2009 21:14

HM - Yes thats what I thought - YEUCH! Think I will stay away from them then! lol

As for awen. Yes I see their point entirely that she shouldn't have been staring and judging a situation she didnt know but it would have been hard to watch. I just dont get the bitchyness of MN lately.

simpson · 12/01/2009 21:16

We have the maclaren triumph which is very light. It also has carry handle but problem is you can't hang anything on back of light buggy as it tips over unless you get weights which then defeats object as buggy heavy again!!

Technically its DS's as we don't drive and his short little legs won't walk as far as us but am starting to use it more and more for DD now.

Mrs Mcjnr - we have ridiculous amounts of buggies but they all get used.

Have 2 singles in our house for when me and DH go out with Dcs together and also have a double which is getting used less and less TBH.

Then have a cheap single at my mum's too
