Lilyloo - we had the opposite today. DD slept for a grand total of 30mins all day She was rubbing eyes big time but would not sleep when put in cot this afternoon.

She wasn't even crying in cot either she was happy rolling/crawling around cot. She goes to bed with Upsy Daisy and sings to her so she was doing that...but no sleeping!!

So come tea time she is so tired I struggle to get food in her and she had a mini melt down. Grr..

but I know I am very lucky as she sleeps 14hrs at night..so maybe doesn't need sleep in day...

Lilyloo · 09/01/2009 22:58

Simpson 30 min!!

DD still asleep so delaying going to bed might regret come tom when dp off to work!

simpson · 09/01/2009 23:08

Yep she was put down for nap ant 10.30 she sang till 11ish then 11.35 when DS needed the loo she was awake saying mumumum in cot

Spent most of the afternoon in town shopping as we are at a birthday party tomorrow and put buggy flat down for her but still no sleep.

When is Martha likely to wake?

Gingeme · 09/01/2009 23:37

Evening ladies. I was just saying to DH this time last year my mw was examining me and telling me I was 2 cm dialated

simpson · 09/01/2009 23:41

Gingeme - did you really give birth on the bathroom floor?

Was the labor quick?

Woo hoo George is nearly one!! What time was he born?

JustKeepSwimming · 10/01/2009 06:45

Happy Birthday GEORGE ! ! !

So we all know what you were doing this time last year Mr & Mrs Gingeme

Hope it's a happy memory, not a scary one.

Should have said that to all mums of now 1-year-olds.
Anyone want to re-share their labour story?

I'm actually a bit nervous that i will get all upset again on H's birthday as the whole home-birth-to-em-c-s thing wasn't fun....

anyway, DS1 slept until 6.10, yey! Will get his chart sorted out later and give him a big smiley face.
He even said I could have a smiley face and a sweetie too
Though i have to confess i woke at 5.30 waiting for him

still sore on one side, makes sleeping tricky as i roll over and wake myself up. really hope it hurries up and settles down.
So who is still bf-ing?
I made it to 12 and a half months with DS1, 11 and a half with DS2.

Ange - that's sooo scary, glad you are both OK. I 'imagine' it happening all the time IYKWIM.

right, time for a cup of tea....

simpson · 10/01/2009 11:34

Happy birthday George!!

JKS - sorry you are still sore, well done on the whole BFing thing though

Got first birthday party to go to so best go and wrap pressie

Gingeme · 10/01/2009 11:59

Morning ladies. Thankyou for all the birthday wishes He is having his nap now resting for the fun this afternoon.
Yes Simpson I realy did give birth on the bathroom floor. He was born at 3.09 am and DH delivered him The labour was an all day thing realy. Contractions all day bang on every 8 mins. Till about 6pm when I made dinner for ds's and Mum then they were getting a bit stronger. Put ds's to bed and called DH home from work by 7.30pm. Had a bath which realy got them going. Called mw in at 11. She examined me and said I was 2cm dialated. Told me to go to sleep. Which I did till about 1am when I was in established labour. Went to toilet to see lots of blood. Scuttled back to the bedroom and woke DH. He got my notes and rang the mw to go to the hospital and start filling the birthing pool. I went back to the bathroom and my Mum came in with me trying to rub my back, which I hate , I knew I wasn't going anywhere by then so DH rang for an ambulance, basicaly because I wanted some pain relief. Still strong strong contractions in the bathroom. DH rang the ambulance again but the 999 man was a bit worried and wanted to talk to me . Was about 2.30 by then. Baby was coming and I knew it so I got on my knees, had a pooh 3 pushes later and George popped out 5 mins later the paramedics turned up and cut the cord. Checked me and baby over. 10 mins later mw turned up delivered the placenta and checked us over again. Everyone left and we all went to bed. Woke at 8am with ds 3 and 4 waking up to see their new baby brother
Wow !! Have a good day all xxx

Lilyloo · 10/01/2009 13:24

Hope George enjoys his party!
Wow it all seems like yesterday i remember being so envious that George had arrived as i was over with dd.
It's nice to read the birth story again without the iminent worry about my own

I have to say my birth wasn't what i wanted h/b with birth pool but my induction wasn't too bad!
I went in had one lot of gel at 11 and then started contractions straight away!
Midwife run off her feet so left pretty much alone all day.
Then they shut the ward at 5.30 so i had to get lift down to delivery. Was told i was 3 cm and i was in a lot of pain(now know i was more 8-9). But didn't want to make a fuss if i was only 3cm so walked all the way
Went in admission room dp went off for his tea. When he came back i was pushing in my clothes!
DP managed to get midwife who had to leave dp to get her equipment and he and midwife delivered dd at 6.30 in admission room!I was still clothed bar my pants!
Discharged at 11 that night and still remember ds and dd1 one when we were at home the morning after!

mixedmama · 10/01/2009 14:49

Happy Bday George

mixedmama · 10/01/2009 15:04

Lily - ours sound quite similar.

I went in to get induced at 8am... MW decided she didnt know how baby was presnting, perhaps back to my belly and spent all day waiting for a scan. Went to delivery had a scan and they didnt know why I was having a scan told them what MW said they said i didnt need a scan for that and made me feel really stupid. DH getting increasinglhy angry.

5Pm and still not been induced. 5.30 DH throws a huge strop and they finally find a monitor and induce me. Within 30 mins I am having mild contractions. They intesified really quickly, MW claimed she couldnt examine me without a doctor present, was in aginy and knew I was not going to be long. MW had to go to delivery and show them my reading to PROVE that I was in fact in established labour. By this point I am writhing all over the shop there is no pain relief except paracetemol and i am on a ward with 5 others who are eating their dinner and whatever and I am screaming that i want to go down to labour.

10.00 pm they take me down and unbeliveably tell me I am 3 cms... I am on another mini ward in delivery so still not in private.

10.45 get taken to my own room. MW p*es off and gives me pethidine cos i cant waitfor the epidural. I put my hand between my legs and tell DH I can feel something he has a quick look and sure enough there is DS2 head crowning.. goes to get the MW who says I should have told her, dont know what she thought i was saying for the last 2 hours.

I could only get comfy on my side and insists I move onto my back. i pushy a few times and start taking my top off for skin to skin and get shouted at by MW. Then he is here and I am falling asleep cos of pethidine.

Guests have arrives... dpeak later.

LaTrucha · 10/01/2009 16:29

Sorry haven't had time to catch up but have seen lovely messages in passing. Thankyou.

can't wait to catch up but dad has come for visit. just popping in to say happy birthday to GEORGE!

Ok. I'm going off to read all your exploits.

AngeChica · 10/01/2009 17:50

Went in on the Saturday night. 48 hours later at 15 days overdue, after 3 doses of prostin, lots of examinations and an enema (!), they finally break my waters and put me on the syntocinon drip at 5pm on the Monday night. Spend what seemed to be the longest night of my life strapped to monitors on drip at max and get only "irritable" contractions and backache. On-duty registrar finally throws in towel and agrees to CS. He is the 5th doctor to examine me but the first one to diagnose that I could never have delivered this baby through my pelvis. DS is delivered at 7.14am on the Tuesday morning, picture perfect and weighing 10lb 14. I start to feel unwell on the operating table right after the birth as uterus failed to contract and I am having a PPH. The rest of the op feels a bit nightmarish and later I deduce this is due to the drugs they shot into me to help stop the bleeding.

The CS experience haunts me a little still. That, and to know I'd have to have a CS next time around. A bit silly really as I know plenty of women here and in RL have had far more traumatic experiences.

simpson · 10/01/2009 21:06

Hi all

Had a busy day today at a RL friend's LO's first birthday.

The difference between her little girl (very nearly walking)& Molly is incredible.

I got a bit and when one of the mothers there pointed it out but in a way that she was suprised that DD wasn't doing more iyswim. Grrr.

Anyway other than that we had a good time

It's really interesting reading all the birth stories as obviously this time last year I wasn't on MN

DD was born very quickly. Had minor pains from 1am ish but let DH carry on sleeping and watched TV had bath etc. By 6am realised I wanted DH up so he got up and rang my mum to come over to take us to hospital (don't drive) She said "yes I'll leave in about 30mins after I've finished by breakfast!!" I wanted her here ASAP Eventually she got here and we got to the hospital by 9am and DD was born at 10.30am just with G & A. No time to give me anything else!!

simpson · 10/01/2009 21:10

Forgot to say we tried DD with some toast today which she loved

However she did the most horrid poo just before bed...all up back etc so don't know if it was caused by the bread or just a runny poo anyway iyswim (sorry TMI)

Think when DD has next appt in hospital on 12th Feb am going to ask if they can test her for allergy/intolerance to wheat, egg etc...

Gingeme · 10/01/2009 21:11

Wow it realy does onlt seem like yesterday doesn't it?
We had a great littla party for George.Everyone had fun and plenty to eat.
He got £40 altogether and two lovely tops and some cardboard books and 2 cars and some vests. Probably more bits but I can't remember now.
Thanks for all the good wishes.

JustKeepSwimming · 10/01/2009 21:23

Gingeme - glad you all had a good day. Think we may get H some nice clothes for his birthday rather than toys. Will see if i can resist, lol!

Simpson - may as well get her tested for everything at this point. Don't get too sad or angry about things. You have done your absolute best for her. It's the docs who have let her down. Really just enjoy her realising what she can do now. And she will probably shoot through all the developmental stuff now.

Ange - not silly at all. The more i read about birth stories & people who are upset by their experiences, the more i realise how random it all is. It's like we start a rollercoaster ride when we get pg, and we have no idea what will happen, how or when it will happen and we have little or no control over it.
No wonder my DH always looks so relieved once the baby is safely here
Do you have to have a c-s because of pelvis/size of baby issues? And be assured that elective ones are much calmer from everything i've read.

LaT - hope you're doing ok?

Mixedm - more bad experiences at the hands of some rubbish health professionals really don't know how or why some of these people have their jobs...

boobs are settling, finally, a week later. hopefully i can sleep on my side more comfortably tonight without waking myself up.

Got lots done today, hope to get more done tomorrow before i'm back on my own on mon. Not for long, dh is going to try a new plan for the week, london on monday night, then home late tues to be here wed am. then london wed night, then home thurs night.
Not sure if it will be better re children, but better for us, as we can always say 'see you tomorrow'

right, got to try and get to bed soon, spending too long on here and playing games!

mixedmama · 10/01/2009 21:27

ange - a planned CS will hopefully be much less stressful and you willhave time to prepare so it can be a positive experience.

Ginge - glad it went well.

Had the ILs over today and it was ok, ended up with more people than we invited but cool. DS1 enjoyed himself with other people paying him ridiculous amounts of attention. He got mainly money which is great since after Xmas I have no more room for toys.

My lot round tomorrow so feel more relaxed.

Right speak later guys.

MrsMcJnr · 10/01/2009 22:01

Happy birthday George! I didn?t know this about the bathroom floor! Amazing birth story! I remember there being a chapter in my ?what to expect book? about delivering at home if need be! My Dad (aged 24) delivered a baby in his car! He saw a woman struggling on the street and offered to take her to hospital!

Simpson ? hi sorry about DS?s fall last week, horrible for you. So sweet about DD singing to Upsy Daisy hope the bad poo was a one off. I love listening to DS play in his cot with his toys; I sometimes sneak peeks from the balcony Great birth story!

Lily ? enjoy the wine, where is that car!!?? I remember that I got a bit fed up on MN when lots of babies due after mine turned up before him glad your birth was a good one even if it wasn?t what you planned!

JKS ? hope the engorgement settles down, am really envious of your DS2?s eating, I am sure that?s why Xavier is waking in the wee smalls every night, but I can hardly get anything other than milk down him at the mo sorry to hear you had a scary birth I?d love to hear everyone?s birth stories, I was so caught up in having a new baby that I never got to read the births after my own. I don?t think I ever posted about my own, will in a mo. Your BFing achievements are fabulous!

Oh Angechica how awful for you falling like that with DS, so glad you are both ok, it must have been horrible. Sorry he hit his head previously too your birth sounded scary too but thank goodness DS was perfect

Madmouse ? glad you are doing ok; I never got engorged when DS stopped feeding either.

Mixedmama ? that MW you had sounded awful, poor you!

LaT ? hello x

Any advice on any of the following gratefully received:

? Double buggies ? which one? So sad to get rid of my bugaboo it is such a great buggy but needs must!
? Nappy bins ? defo need one over here but which one? I want one of the ones you put the nappy in and it bags it and stores it inside.
? Nursery stickers ? inspire me! DS has the Jungle ones and they are fab

Thanks ladies

Birth story ? 9pm 23/1 started to have some lower ab pain, put it down to being upset having read AIMS pamphlet on induction. Was 8 days late and had appointment at 12pm on 24/1 to discuss induction and was scared. Woke up 1am aware of contractions, drifted in and out of sleep until 4am when got up and had a cup of tea and monitored contractions for 30 mins (needed to have heparin shot if in early labour) they were pretty strong and regular so I did the shot and went back to bed. Stayed there until 9am and then had a bath to relax, then woke DH and he started timing contractions. We were convinced we were doing it wrong as they were so frequent. Put on my TENS machine at about 11am and headed to hospital for Consultant?s appointment. Consultant confirmed I was in labour and 4cms and sent me back home where she knew I wanted to be until much later. Reassured and excited we went home to start the long wait watching DVDs. Got home at 1pm. By 3pm things had really intensified, I?d been sick and was having urges to push, I just knew that the baby would be arriving soon, got in the car with me leaning on parcel shelf! 3.45pm got to hospital, walked into the delivery wing; waters broke as I got in the door. MW took me to admissions room and wanted to monitor me etc etc, told her I needed to push and luckily she realised I meant it, got into delivery room (only one en suite ? result!) and after some very tiring but quick pushing DS arrived at 5.10pm we had skin to skin immediately and I fed him and we stayed all cuddled up until about 9pm when we went up to the ward, I was so lucky

madmouse · 10/01/2009 23:24

Hi all, just back from lovely meal at church with all the leaders and their spouses, about 10 of us in total. One of the wardens is a chef and his food is fab. Nathan went to his usual childminder (great that she is mymate ), it was actually the first time we had been out together since a memorable Chinese when we celebrated that Nathan would come out of special care soon. Because he was a bottle refusnik I have always taken him everywhere. He went to sleep at his cm, woke up on the way home but settled again beautifully. It helps he has a lovely grobag with a zip in the back for the carseat harness.

Oh, birth stories
Went into labour tuesday morning two days before my due date) 4am
mw came at some point confirmed I was 2cm dilated. Lunchtime everything died down until the end of the night.
Wednesday al day contractions at home but not dilating, messy bloodpressure.
Wednesday 6pm advised to go in (planned home birth) as blood pressure suspicious.
Diagnosed early pre-eclampsia, spent the night on the ward, dh had to go home. Contracted through the night, not progressing.
11am next morning waters broken, meconium stained so needed monitoring.
2 hours later drip, still not dilating
managed 5hours of drip on gas and air, then needed epidural as I started to feel I would die in the middle of each contraction. Slight concern over baby's heart rate being too stable.
2.30am given up hope finally dilated fully
told to wait an hour then started pushing, Nathan's heart rate halved. told to stop, got a bit worrying
taken to theatre, dosed up for section. Nathan was turned with forceps and I was told to push, felt nothing but pushed as hard as I could and he came out down to his waist in one contraction.
Next push out. Apgars 9,10,10. 7lb4 at 4.21am on the Friday.
Spent some time on ops ward, but all seemed well. Moved to normal ward, few hours later he turned blue and was rushed down to scbu. THe rest is history

madmouse · 10/01/2009 23:27

sorry just realised that the post finished on a bit of an odd blue note

ange, I need to have c-sections now too as Nathan's problems seem to have been caused by my body not coping well with labour and causing him to have bloodclots

The thought of never pushing a baby out, feeling myself do it, have a baby on my tummy while he starts breathing makes me cry.

I'm so sorry I've been away but I'm sooo ill. Got diahrea (can never spell that) and sickness. Haven't eaten for nearly 36 hours and only in the past 5 hours been managing to keep food down. Have had to send Aaliyah to mums in case she catches it, rang NHS direct last night and apparently Wrexham (where I am) is having a bout of it and it lasts upto 4 days I'm really missing her too, I dont know whether to ask mum to watch her abit longer till I'm better cos she's meant to be having her booster on Wednesday and then its her birthday on Friday (little party) don't want her ill for either of those.

Sorry i missed birthdays!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE and Kelix's LO.

Anyways.... I've kinda read through but only things I can rememer is

MrsMc - You should be able to get a free one when you have your new LO if not let me know and i'll send you the one I've got cos I honestly think it's a waste of money but if you want one I'll send it to you (if you don't mind paying the postage)

Birth stories - I would tell you mine but I dont like it and it upsets me for the same reason as C-Sections upset you MM.

Anyways.... Hugs to all and i'll come online in between trips to the loo

madmouse · 10/01/2009 23:56

facebook says Lucky is ill and missing Aaliyah
