Just been to hospital to see consultant for check after ds was v. ill in September. All better now but turns out he had probably developed Stevens-Johnson syndrome, in response to a bacterial infection. This can be really very nasty indeed so feel we had a bit of a lucky escape with only a week in hospital - after being sent home twice and told he had a cold.

On the way back, dp explained that this experience is why he is being so over the top stressed and negative about Caitlin's everyday baby illnesses - bit of a lightbulb moment! Don't suppose I can expect him to put it into perspective but maybe it will help me be a bit less frustrated with what I see as his drama-queenery...

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 11/12/2008 15:17

Just to say that I have uploaded a photo of Peter's first attempt at banana onto my profile.

I will now try to catch up on the thread.

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 11/12/2008 15:28

I have now made my Christmas profile public so that should help with viewing the photo.

Amber - sorry to hear that Luke is poorly. If you continue to be concerned take him back to the GP. Is he still feeding normally? If he isn't then you definitely need to get him checked again.

Amberc · 11/12/2008 15:54

Hey thanks ladies for all the advice, I only have one pharmacist who knows that my baby is not 2 years old and the boots and superdrug don't have a medicines bit! It is horrid watching your baby gasp for breath but I feel better now knowing that others have had similar and got over it (and also reading the immunisations book and seeing there's no way he can have whooping cough unless the vaccines have failed 3 times!!).

I am soooo not looking forward to the willy thing. I don't want Luke to feel like he's body conscious but I also don't want him 'fiddling' round his gran's house! He also has a rather large one compared to the other boy babies I've seen (he is very tall remember with big feet) so could be mega embarrassing!!!

bitofasnowqueen · 11/12/2008 16:35

Amber S was reading your post about Luke's willy and now he's got penis envy

System will this syndrome stay with him now? Good luck with coping with dp's drama-queenery.

Too busy laughing at willie-air-guitar to try to respond to anything else!

hollyivypoppy34 · 11/12/2008 16:36

mm.. get your dp to try near work amber? and lol re luke.

progress today -got more eaten (thanks to josey/5gomad or whoever suggested really watery porridge) -also stuck her in her chair and gave her a spoon to distract her.

first of those cringeworthy notes re "our year" in an xmas card today

bitofasnowqueen · 11/12/2008 16:46

Amber pretend you're getting it for a friend who's stuck at home with a poorly toddler?

OP posts:
hollyivypoppy34 · 11/12/2008 16:47

system I suppose positive thing is your dh has opened up about what was bugging him

paro how was the play?

jingleallnewjinglebells · 11/12/2008 16:50

ali v cute pic. I can't wait to try A with some food

A hasn't yet found his willy thank goodness, I'm not looking forward to it!

A's sleeping is still all over the place. He can do 3 hours at a stretch but mostly wakes up every hour to be fed. People keep saying growth spurt but it's been going on so long now that it can't be, and he doesn't look like he's grown that much! Part of me thinks it's just habit, but it's wearing me out whatever the cause

Is anyone else's lo being very vocal? A has learned to scream extremely loudly when excited. It is very cute but ear-piercing. He was playing yesterday and I came running in a panic wondering what he was screaming about, and he was having a great time

hollyivypoppy34 · 11/12/2008 17:29

yes screeching is v.popular but it is loud! and as you say the difference between happy and upset is not so easy to tell.

hedgeHogfather · 11/12/2008 18:01

evening all,

ok trying to remember everything

amber how about doing an online shop for medised? I hope luke gets better soon as it is nasty when they are not very well and can't even bitch about it like we do.

ROFL @ penis envy. Isaac was intently watching 2 girls having their nappies changed the other day

allnew there is lots of screeching, shouting going on here but only at home, very little when we are out and about

ali your photo is great, we are going to try some veggies this evening as DH and I are having a roast

paro hope fleur is feeling better and your play was a success

Nothing of note here, although Isaac did try BLW with tinsel and baubles when I was decorating the tree earlier

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 11/12/2008 18:16

Essie - meant to thank-you for my MBE. That amused me. I perhaps have a question for you MBE BF guru though: what does everyone think to this:

As you know we started BLW on Saturday. Since then there has been evidence of solids in Peter's nappies. This is not necessarily meant to happen straightaway with BLW as to begin with there is alot of playing with food rather than swallowing it. Yesterday I had a sore lump in one boob, then this morning I had a massive sore lump in the other boob. This has happened twice before but only on LHS, I self-diagnosed it as blocked milk ducts, and did the hot water, massage routine which has luckily always cleared it up. Thank-fully I have never ended up with mastitis (touchwood). So my theory is, have I got blocked ducts because Peter has been demanding less milk as a result of solids filling him up a bit more? His sleep has improved (for Peter) and he has been having one 4-5 hour stretch a night this week.

The alternative blocked duct theory is that I am run down with a cold having been BF a very hungry baby for 6 months.

Better go. Someone might be into rice cakes, but right now milk seems to be a priority.

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 11/12/2008 18:40

PMSL AH yes its a stage that unfortuantely they NEVER grow out of they just eventually stop doing it so much in public, well some do!!!
Did I never tell you the story about my DS in the bath? He was about 5 and started screaming his head off and wouldnt let me in. He just cried I have turned it inside out

My Next door neighbour really made me laugh her DS is similar age to your DS and when they were on holiday staying in a villa, he was running around but naked, unfortunately the drive was shared with some spanish folk, to whom he promptly ran over to William in hand shouting OLA

I cant give Oli medisise because it might give her a seizure, I have given it to my DD1 though as she cant sleep with coughing, I feel awful today so think I might have some myself.

Oli had physio today and they were quite pleased with her, the OT was out also so looking at special equipment for her. Her physio is going to be off most of next year though as has just been told she has breast cancer, it really upset me as she has 3 boys and is just back from maternity leave after the youngest

AH out of interest is DS getting weighed on the BF chart?

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 11/12/2008 19:51

Josey - the news about your physio is the kind of thing that upsets me too. How terribly sad for her and those little boys. . Pleased to hear that they think Oli is progressing though. That is good to hear.

P found his willy when he was very young - posted about it at the time. He forgot about it again though, and hasn't stretched it in quite the same eye watering way for months now, thank god. I think I might find the whole business of teaching a little boy about his willy a bit odd though. As an only child, there were never any boys in the house, so I don't have a replay in my head of how my Mum approached it. (Not sure if that makes sense)

abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 11/12/2008 20:15

Ali Fraser's drastically cutting back on milk too with just a bit of solids. If it's in his nappies, then he's obviously eating it! Good for him.

josey no, never heard that story about your DS before! I'm sure he'd die of embarrassment if he knew you were repeating it! Your poor physio - I hope she beats her cancer!

And Fraser is being weighed on the BF chart - but he still doesn't do that well. I think I should download the WHO one - Duncan does a lot better on the older kid version from there.

bitofasnowqueen · 11/12/2008 20:41

Josey, that's such a shame about your physio. I hope that they've caught it early enough. Sorry you're feeling rough too.

S is always having a good tug at his man bits. I think DH is quite chuffed. He really scratched his sack the other week though. That'll teach him!

Wish me luck tonight folks - DH is away overnight (I know some of you deal with that ALL the time) and S is still pretty loaded with the cold. I did an awful lot of floor walking last night before bringing him into bed with me (at least when he cried I didn't have to get out of bed) so am hoping for a better night tonight.

passroundflourymincepies · 11/12/2008 20:45

Evening!

Well play went well, we had all the usual laughs, My class instead of singing osme of them were more focused on getting the other half to mve down the line as there was a gap!!! despite me hissing it doesnt matter just sing!!
The nursery were lovely and one boy reinvented a song we had "twinkle Twinkle little Look thereÅ› my mummy!!!" Also on a curtain change somebody forgot to hit the lights backstage so 200 kids were plunged into darkness so they all screamed and Year 1 were just getting off the stage blocks so we had to get them all to stand still til someone hit the lights but apparently off stage the poem reading continued annd nobody knew otherwise!!

Amber - Fleurs cough is hacking too and i stupidly googled and hers sounds like whooping cough etc but drs also say chest is clear, she is eating less but dr says its ok as long as she seems happy at times etc. Think its cause the cough sounds soooo awful coming from such a little thing

Well catching up on top gear with Dp actually dont feel too bad this eve despite my 4 hours sleep!!!

neenztwinz · 11/12/2008 21:15

Did I mention my DH is the chief executive of Medised PLC?

That is a shame Amber about the pharmacist - I had to go to the next town to get mine... it was a Sunday so no local pharmacies open but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it round here anyway cos everyone knows me (I'm the one with the purple twin buggy!)

Ali, love the BLW pic... yes I think the lumpy boobs are definitely due to feeding less. I had terribly lumpy boobs yesterday and mastitis a fortnight ago. My two are definitely feeding less, even when I tried to put them on yesterday to drain the boob they weren't interested. I am a bit but it is good that I can get out and about more (and leave them longer with PILs!). Good that P is sleeping longer .

Poppy, I was just thinking today how next year I will send one of those letters with my christmas cards . Is that bad? What about them is bad and then I won't do that. This year I am sending a pic of the twins in each card. Will people think I am a bit sad?

Theo loves to grab his willy in the bath - he makes a grabbing motion towards his groin and only sometimes gets it in his hand. He gives it a right good tug as well. Someone was asking about names for bits a while ago... we will use willy but not sure about the other one. My sisters use 'minnie' - what do you think?

hollyivypoppy34 · 11/12/2008 21:20

lol at neenz dad - what is bad about this is it is so smug ..all about the (expensive) holidays they've been on, kids in private school etc -I'm sure it doesn't mean to come across as such but its like that harry enfield sketch "we're considerably richer than thou"

hollyivypoppy34 · 11/12/2008 21:23

the it crowd -its magic isn't it. just watchign it on sky plus

Rolf · 11/12/2008 21:30

We got a "family newsletter" one year that contained the sentence "my life is incredibly great". The sad thing was that it was from a really nice, enthusiastic guy who was probably just being honest and upbeat but it just rang so cheesily in my mean English ears!

Looking forward to comments on the "girls bits" question. DD1 insists she has a willy and I am floundering over how to complete the sentence "no you don't, you have a ..."!

Thea is no longer clockwork. She has turned into a sleep monster. I allowed DD1 to become a sleep monster and we are only just coming out the other side, so I really don't want to make the same mistakes with Thea. She is getting terribly upset at being in her cot on her own and wants to sleep with me. The tireder I get, the less resistance I have and it's now got so bad that she doesn't want to spend any of the night on her own. She's screaming her head off as I type. Going in and trying to soothe her just makes her more worked up. Any ideas?

Hello, by the way

libralady · 11/12/2008 21:33

Just typed a lovely long message and Wallis wiped it .

Well you may have guessed it but have finally got our kittens. Wallis and Gromit are now safely ensconced in our home. Picked them up yesterday and they are already ruling the roost. Sam is so excited he can't leave them alone.

Sorry guys that I haven't been on in ages. So much to do and so little time. DH has been away endlessly for weeks. We are literally ships that pass in the night at weekends as we are both so tired.

Had Luke's baptism on Sunday and had a really lovely day. Caught up with some very old friends. And saw Fivegomad with her family. Also went out for a meal on Saturday night for my Dad's 70th birthday. Made especailly nice as my cousin from North Wales (well Chester really) came down for the Christening and surprised my Dad by coming for the meal as well. Unfortunately my brother asn SIL didn't make it from London as SIL was really ill.
Hopefully they are going to make it this weekend instead.

Had some pretty crap news on Tuesday. We've all been told we are at risk of redundancy. Our work is being offshored to India and we need to streamline our workforce by virtually half. Had 1:1s to discuss our preferences before going into the selection pool and evaluated. Will know our exact fate on Tuesday next. Great timing or what.

My Nan had a stroke two weeks ago and the acre home were so concerned. We all thought it was the end but she's bounced back again. I'm sure she wants to reach 101 [fgin]

I do try to keep up with the goings on but find I only have time o skim every couple of days and by the time I do get to post (like tonight) I've forgotten what everyone has been up to. Will try and catch up with the goings on tomorrow night, when I don't have to go to bed quite so early.

Anyhow, better close for now as my bed is calling me.

neenztwinz · 11/12/2008 21:34

Poppy, I see... yes, that would be very annoying! I don't think anyone will feel that way about our tales of camping in the UK when my note goes round next year.

hollyivypoppy34 · 11/12/2008 21:36

oh libra I am sorry - great news about the kittens but not such great news on the everythign else - pretty rough at any time of year esp now. glad the christening went well

rolf you could try fanjo.. - no real suggestions as edie will sleep on me given half the chance although have toughened up re evening sleep not naps. maybe try to work on naps when you have more resistance and build up from there?

spongebrainbigpants · 11/12/2008 21:42

Hi all, can't keep up with all the posts but at the round robin letters - a very American idea!

Thought you might enjoy this poppy:

honest round robin

Good to hear from you libra - your nan sounds like a real fighter . Sorry to hear about the job .

Lol at the willy chat! Alex still hasn't started playing with his thankfully!!
