cricri, i forgot. bath thing...mine have had one bath about every 10 days. in fact their skin looks lovely and they don't smell. they hate baths, it's so cold at the moment. i also wash them with pinky's idea of a sponge bath, lying on a towel with aqueous cream and just do a bit at a time, starting with face - so they are not totally undressed and submerged in lukewarm water.

tistheCEEBEEtobejolly · 12/12/2008 20:01

Evening all

Coolkat Rebecca looks very cute! As Daisy says, we seem to have produced 'hairy' babies! Both mine have been born with a full head of hair so I assumed that was normal - but so many people comment in surprise, that maybe it is more normal for babies to be bald??

HM2J long may Z's sleep continue (you lucky thing!!)

Choc I know you have mentioned dummies before - does M keep it in? It sounds like he may just want a suck so a dummy would be a good boob/finger substitute. It is still very early days aswell so it will pass...

Co-sleeping have not really needed to do it so far with Sam but did it a bit with DS1. I used to move our pillows as far to each edge of the bed as possible and lay him in between - still in his grobag but on top of the duvet. But I did find that I could never completely relax and go into a deep sleep when DS1 was very young and in our bed.

Christmas decs are up (am I the only one who hates putting them up - I dread doing it every year as I find it so hard sorting out the tree lights etc - although I do love it when it is all done and it looks Christmassy!) and so far, DS1 has played a bit with a couple of baubles but not really bothered.

Hi to everyone else - am sat here with a glass of Pinot Grigio and camembert cooking in the oven..yumm!!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 20:11

We've (well I've ) decided to get another cot and take the side off to have it beside the bed so DS can be next to me but safe. DH is off up to IKEA tomorrow evening to get a cot.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 20:16

DS has had three baths....so about every 10 days here as well. He gets his bum area and neck creases and hands done daily though with a warm flannel. His skin is sooo lovely and soft, but I have noticed that when I've used a bit of baby wash in the water and done his hair that his scalp looks flaky afterwards. Given DS1 and DD both have skin problems, I'm being as soap off as possible with DS2.

ChocOrange05 · 12/12/2008 20:34

Well M just had his first ever dose of Gripe Water (funny smelling stuff!) and then did a few burps and lots of tummy grumblings (assume this is a good thing??) but settled in my lap WITHOUT needing the boob! Just left him in his moses basket so I am hoping he settles, fingers crossed!

MerryCRICRIstmas · 12/12/2008 20:43

Thanks Hana, Merry and Daisy for your suggestions about baths. I don't feel so bad now for not giving E a bath regularly! Hopefully she'll start to like the water at some stage!
Choc The same thing has happened to me a couple of times but not on a regular basis. Tried a dummy but she just spits it out. Hope you have more luck - it's so frustrating!
E has been less clingy today - 20 minutes in her bouncy chair this morning whilst I was getting dressed and 30 minutes on the playmat this evening. Now I just need to get her to sleep on her own...
Co-sleeping I tuck the edge of the duvet under my legs to make sure it doesn't flop over her. I often get a dead arm and it does feel strange to lie in the same position all night! Tried twice to put her in her hammock during the night but no joy!
E had her paediatrician appt at the hospital today for her kidneys which went ok. She has to keep taking antibiotics and the registrar is referring her to his consultant who will write to us about possible tests to check for urine reflux from bladder into kidneys if these prove to be necessary. E needs to have a blood test in a few weeks' time in any case just to check her out. Not looking forward to that
Xmas decorations - should do ours this weekend too, hopefully on Sunday. Nearly finished the cards now.
Ceebee wine and camembert sounds fab

tistheCEEBEEtobejolly · 12/12/2008 21:02

Cricri you just reminded me about your bath question. Sam also screams throughout his baths - he is not a happy man when it is bathtime

He probably gets about 3 a week (mainly on days when DS1 is at nursery and not interfering helping) and they are VERY short and sweet (and tbh, it is mainly for washing his hair rather than him).

I am fairly sure DS1 was the same and it wasn't long before he loved his baths (and he still does now, and swimming) so I guess perseverence is the key!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 21:06

cricri, fingers crossed for E's blood test results.

a quick question on the co-sleeping....I know that you aren't meant to do it if you have been drinking or if you are a smoker. DH smokes cigars (but swears he is stopping on Monday) but only a few hamlets a day and never in the house. should I ban him from the bed until he has stopped? Also, if I have a couple of glasses of wine should I not do it?

dingdongDOZYMAREishigh · 12/12/2008 21:21

hi all - have very quickly skimmed the thread, whilst DH has gone out to get another bottle of wine . We had the M+S dine in for a £10 - T'was lovely! (I haven't bothered doing a shop this week, henve the dinner deal and DH out for wine!)

Choc sounds as if DS is a "sucky" baby - did oyu try thr dummy in the end?? I have to use one with DD as she is such a quick feeder but still looking for comfort afterwards - when I gave her more milk she also chucked up, but since using the dummy, she has been fine. (I still HATE them with a passion though but whatever works

daisy why at getting another cot????

coolkat DD is gorgeous. cricri kidneys sound all good, when is your consultant appointment? ARE YOU qworried or chuilled out it? Preusme DD is on trimetoprim?????

As for baths, Tiger has one every night with BOTH brothers, I use Burts Bees on all their skins and all gorgeously soft! (this is after trial and error of possibly 100's of creams as DS1 has eczema and DS2 very dry skin)

We are all good, I am very surprised at how well things are going, I keep waiting for it all to come crashing down but so far so good!

DH back with vino, I am off to induldge!

DM x

MerryCRICRIstmas · 12/12/2008 21:37

Ooh Dozy sounds like you're having a lovely evening DH is on lates this week so it's been just me and E. Unfortunately her conversation is somewhat limited at the moment and her table manners aren't the best either (burps and farts at the table) No date for consultant appointment yet. She is indeed on trimethroprim (sp) and hates it, poor thing. I have to syringe it into her mouth in the evenings and she screws up her face when she sees it coming. She'll be put off aniseed for life at this rate! Glad everything is going so well for you
Daisy I think a few glasses of wine is probably OK, it's if you get really hammered and aren't likely to hear baby if something were to happen. Not sure with the smoking - would probably banish DH
Ceebee Glad E isn't the only one who hates baths and screams the house down - I'll keep persevering though as you say.

Pinkglow · 12/12/2008 21:54

Trying to catch up with everyone - Choc H does the same thing with me on the bottle so we give him infacol to bring up his wind plus he has a dummy but when hes in the mood he just spits that out then take a few sucks on the bottle then spits that out, so we then wind him before repeating the whole thing again. What has worked for the last few nights is swaddling him, it seems to really calm him down and he can therefore decide what he actually wants

H is another that hates baths - well he has had two that he actually liked but the others hes screamed the place down, MIL and Mum were both horrified I dont bath him every day as they were instructed to, but theres no way I could go through that ordeal everyday.

We co-slept for the first two weeks, I ended up everynight with a dead arm and sore hips - my parents co-slept with all four of us until we were about 2 I should have asked mum how she did it.

vbab78 · 12/12/2008 22:03

Just bookmarking and quick update as going to bed soon as I do the night feed, dont know when A might wake as all over the place this eve and DH having a lie in tomorrow because HE IS TIRED!!! I know he works but my "job" is 6am til 10pm+ and up in the middle of the night too. I am constantly on my feet for the whole day due to DS, A and general housey and x-mas stuff to sort. I even took the car for new tyres yesterday and took loads of rubbish from the garage to the tip today. SORRY FOR THE RANT. Part of me thinks I am being unreasonable wanting too lie ins (10am max prob) and 1 night when I dont do a night feed. But then the bad part of me thinks what i do is a lot harder and it isnt my fault that DH stops up on the computer until at least 12 and sometimes even 2am so no wonder the stupid idiot is tired! DH has also started having a couple of cans most nights to unwind. ARGH!!!

Sorry my quick post went wrong.

On a good note I went on my works x-mas do with the lads. I am the only female in a team of 14 blokes! Didn't drink as was driving but was a great time .

AwayInaMargot · 12/12/2008 22:13

CriCri the Plumski also hates baths. Screams blue murder. We only bath her every 3 days as a consequence.

Bad night last night as my brother arrived very late needing a bed for the night.
Today I met with choc and her gorgeous baby boy. Plumski's new boyfriend? Had lovely time, apart from my LO screaming loads as overtired and grumpy. Sorry choc for spending so much time feeding and not seeing you two!

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Dozy am very of your DH's cooking/your civilised evenings. I've just made DH a whisky American and am now going to take Plumski up for early night. She's asleep on DH's chest.

One question - DH gave LO her first bottle of expressed milk tonight, in Avent bottle with "slow-flow" teat. She necked the lot in less than 10 mins. She was ravenous as had awoken from long nap. But afterwards, she was screaming (poss wind?) but as though she wanted more. I held off for an hour whilst we tried to wind her, but eventually offered her bosom which she took. Is this normal?
P.S. DH gave her 4 fl ounces of expressed milk.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 22:25

dozy, the was because I'd made an executive decision about it on my own and told DH he had to go to IKEA for the cot.

sounds like a lovely evening. I think I'll surprise my DH with a romantic dinner a deux sometime next week.....if DS2 will let us that is!!

We have had a fantastic evening baby wind wise

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 22:28

margot, my DD always treated EBM as nothing more than a light snack or drink, and would always want boob shortly afterwards. I used to try and express after she had fed to get lots of creamy hindmilk, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Glad you had a nice day

littlesaintNIC · 13/12/2008 00:27

Well that's my birthday over...

Very tiring, LO didn't settle all day. Went back to doc. He weighed him - 9.5lb!!! So Gaviscon has been increased to 1.5 doses a day. I saw my fave doc - he is so much better than the rest. Said to increase to the full 2 doses from middle of next week as it'll be safe to assume he's the required 4.5kg (currently 4.3 kg).

Also mentioned referring him to the paeds soon - I assume thaat's if this continues. I asked about ranitidine and he said it's an option. Also gave us a decent prescription of 180 gaviscons!!! Last doc gave us 15 - 2.5 days worth - idiot!!!!

Thank you for the 'happy birthdays' I got loads of cds and Mama Mia on Blu-ray. I'm always a casualty of having a birthday so close to Christmas that people use it as an excuse to buy me very little....

Didn't feel like my birthday - crying baby, no sleep and sick on my shoulder!!!!

tegan · 13/12/2008 08:01

Happy birthday for yesterday nic, sil and her boy are born 21st and 23rd of dec and seh hates it. I always make the effort to buy a birthday present even if it is only something small.

Owen is doing great. i am bfing which i have never done before and i honestly feel i could do this forever.

He seems to be feeding every 4 to 4.5hrs but feeds constantly in the evening from about 7 til 9 then goes down for a good 4 hours. Feeds are taking about an hour for him to have both sides and a nappy hange in between.

We were both discharged from mw yesterday and will se hv next week for a weigh in and hearing check.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 13/12/2008 10:13

Sounds like you are doing great tegan

we had a better night last night, with DS sleeping from 11.30 till 3.30 in the crib and then on bed with me for the rest of the night. DH is off to IKEA now to get the cot so I can have him beside me rather then in with me so hoping for great things tonight!

I am going to be putting away three baskets of laundry today and tidying my bedroom....which looks worse than it did when I was a teenager .

Have good days all.....

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 13/12/2008 10:19

sorry nic; is that him putting on weight, or losing it, hence the increase in the gaviscon?

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 13/12/2008 10:20

oops should have read correctly. he is putting on so can get the higher dose!

is the gaviscon working?

tegan · 13/12/2008 11:52

Am thinking of increasing feed as owen seems to be getting narky after about 3.5 hours.

Is this good idea? i don't know as never bf before

tistheCEEBEEtobejolly · 13/12/2008 13:10

Hi everyone - hope you are all having a good weekend!

Dozy am about the M&S meal deal - I only saw the advert yesterday afternoon and there is no way I am tackling town over the weekend - just wish I had known about it on Thursday when I could have gone into town!!

Daisy I hope the cot is ok - I assume you will be hitting the vino tonight now??

Nic glad your birthday was ok although wearing baby sick definitely seems to be the 'in thing' round here aswell! Is the gaviscon working??

Vbab I think you should at least have one lie-in at the weekend - surely your DH can't need both days to lie in?? Tbh, me and DH have never done the alternate lie-in thing - we roughly start the day at 7am and we both get up with the DS's (although I have been known, very occasionally, to go back to bed halfway through the morning!)

Sam is having a nap now (tbh, that is all he does - I would struggle to tell you what colour eyes he has as I have seen them so infrequently ) so I think I may have one too (DS1 has gone with DH to MIL's for the afternoon!)

The good news is that I think my old sunny, happy DS1 may be back - he has been his old self this morning - no tantrums, no whinging and no crying for his dummy (even though DH insisted on watching cricket all morning which would have been enough for a complete meltdown from DS1 last week!) - fingers crossed this is the start of life getting back to normal for us all!

tistheCEEBEEtobejolly · 13/12/2008 13:13

Forgot to say that last night, Sam had a bottle at 8ish. He was awake until we went to bed at 9.30, went into his crib awake and slept until 1.30 - I fed him and then put him back in his crib and he woke for another feed at 6am Once I fed him, I led him between me and DH whilst waiting for DS1 to wake up - we dozed until 7.30ish when I had to wake DS1 up! I hope this is a sign of things to come.....

Hi all

Thanks for the suggestions re M's wind/excessive feeding. Last night for his 7-10pm sleep the Gripe Water worked sending rumbles out of his top and bottom and then he fell asleep. When he was grumbly this morning at 5am as usual I tried a bit more then but it didn't seem to help - I then spent almost 2 hours lying next to him holding the dummy in his mouth - tbh I probably wouldn't have done it for that long but I didn't realise! So looks like the GW might be a bit hit and miss but I am 99% sure its wind and not hunger as he happily sucks on the dummy (when its not falling out!) and when I do give him the breast he just sicks it up. I have bought some colief so going to try that too. Bloody expensive stuff but if it works then it'll be worth it!

He is currently down for his lunchtime nap with a cherry teat dummy in, we had been using orthodontic, but hope these ones stay in better. Has no one invented a "keep dummy in baby's mouth thingy"???

DM the M&S £10 offer is great - and I highly recommend the profiteroles!!

I met Monkey yesterday and her gorgeous LO Plumski - she can def be M's girlfriend!

Daisy I hope the cot works out for you - at least you can have the peace of mind of having him next to you without worrying you'll roll onto him! Has anyone else woken up thinking their baby is under all the covers only to find they are happily sleeping in their moses basket / cot??

Happy belated birthday Nic sorry I forgot to say it yesterday!!
