pinky, I had only had a dull ache before and was putting it down to my general undercarriage problems. It's just the amount of walking that I've done today that has made it worse. Seeing the physio for my wee issue so will get this sorted as well. Can't say I'm not getting my money's worth from the NHS

yup, this baby stage is so short and is quickly eclipsed by them meeting milestones and becoming more little people rather than an eating, sleeping, farting, crying machine. We will all be happy and smiley and well rested after Christmas.

My boobs are pretty much back to normal . the worst of the pain and swelling cleared within 48 hours.

Check out the first two photos on my profile

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 11/12/2008 21:16

...which I haven't actually uploaded yet

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 11/12/2008 21:33

they're there now!

Pinkyminkee · 11/12/2008 21:45

twinks that sounds like a really good suggestion from the HV. I find that babies also really like radio 4, esp. when someone like peter Donaldson is speaking. Late night shipping forecast sometimes proved handy for DS. They also like spoken word cds, someone reading a maeve binchy novel or somesuch. Sounds mad but they find it quite soothing. I have one of those cheesy classic fm music for babies cds and that's great. Hope you get some rest and have a better night.x

daisy sounds like you overdid it a bit then? I get backache at the mo, which is a bit of a 'known issue' with abdominal surgery- word of warning to others who may have multiple cs- but the physio sounds positive, and the boobs- lets hope things settle downb now on that 'front'

misdee yay just phoned Dh and I have reserved the last one of those swingy seats at argos near Dh's work- he'll pick it up tomorrow- thanks for the link!!

Pinkyminkee · 11/12/2008 21:47

aww daisy they are lovely! (the pics)

barbareebaa · 11/12/2008 22:15

Evening!

daisy sorry to hear about your spd returning - hope it clears up again soon.
Lovely photos

misdee my mum just sent some money for william for Crimble so think he will have a swingy seat
Thanks for the link!!

obs take care of yourself sweetie x

You know with co-sleeping, what kind of bedding do you use (would a duvet be too hot/ suffocation risk??) and do you use something in the bed to put the baby in?

What's a health visitor? I was meant to have a visit today but she never showed. are they like mws?

Have been a bit freaked out about wills flarey nostrils (sign of breathing difficulty) but there doesn't seem to be any other sign - anyone else noticed flarey nostril? Should I be worried??

Wishing us all quiet, restful nights and pain free boobs xx
And aren't we all doing brilliantly? When Will is asleep with a full tummy I think to myself 'I did that - at this point in time all is well so that means I'm ace' and sometimes it makes me feel better

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 11/12/2008 22:24

barbs, have you got your red book? there is usually some information in there on safe cosleeping. You should use balnkets and sheet and baby shouldn't have any more layers on than you have. so I suppose just a babygro or just a vest? I'm learning about all of this myself, although last night I just had the duvet over his legs and he was in the crook of my arm so wasn't going anywhere. Any advice welcome

not noticed any nostril flare in Finfoo. If you are worried give your doc's surgery a call.

the nightly grumping groaning moaning and crying has started .....and it's about an hour and a half later tonight. Does this mean it'll be a shorter episode or that we won't get to sleep until much later

Pinkyminkee · 11/12/2008 22:39

hi barbs I have a huge cellular blanket on the bed when co-sleeping,instead of duvet. DH sometimes puts a single duvet on his side. Bbay is just in a nightgown, next to me and I form an arc around her with my body- but leave space. We have a big kingsize bed, so can fit us and a few DC if needed!

We were given a quite informative booklet from WHO wehn we had DS, but I've not had it since, so guidelines may have changed.

HV is a nurse with addtional training, they are interseted in the wellbeing of your child to school age, I think. I've only seen mine once this time.

Sometimes they are great sometimes they are chocolate teapots.

barbareebaa · 11/12/2008 23:01

Hi Pinkee! I need to get some blankets I think!! The night after I had Will (had absolutely noo idea what I was meant to do with the little fella) I dragged myself up to the mw reception area to ask for formula (thought will was going to starve - had no clue) the mw said 'do you really want to formula feed or are you hoping to bf?' so I told her bf so she took me back to my bed and told me not to worry, showed me how to sleep with will in bed (with my boobs out so he could be near them)so I wouldn't roll onto him and spent the most special night looking at each other. So I did co-sleep once but haven't dared to at home but really loved it!!
hope Fin has settled again daisy

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 11/12/2008 23:06

barbs, some information here

littlesaintNIC · 12/12/2008 01:35

The 6 week growth spurt... Does it start at 5 weeks and 1 day????? J won't stop feeding which makes giving Gaviscon 6 times a day a nightmare!!!

Oh, it's my birthday now.... I'm 36 and have huge bags under my eyes and a very attractive overhang..... Nice.....

tistheCEEBEEtobejolly · 12/12/2008 08:17

Morning!

Happy Birthday Nic - hope you manage to have a good one - despite the big feeding frenzy

Misdee thanks for the link for the swing -am gutted as really want one but they have sold out in all our local stores - would have made an ideal Xmas present for Sam.

Daisy those photos are lovely - sounds like you had a fab time with Yorky.

Twinkling hope you are feeling a bit more positive today - and glad you were able to speak to the HV (and that you have a nice sympathetic one!). Take comfort from the fact you 'hit the wall' but coped and have moved on now

Sam is poorly now - I knew he wouldn't escape the cold we have all had. He slept pretty much all of yesterday and last night (and is still asleep now ). But he spent the entire night groaning in his sleep (and I mean, the entire night). He is really snotty so I hope it is just a cold but will keep my eye on him.

Putting up the Christmas decs today although the lounge is so full of DS1's toys, Sam's moses basket, baby gym etc I have absolutely no idea where the tree is going to fit

SPARKLETOESiscomingtotown · 12/12/2008 11:12

Morning all,

Desperately trying to keep up with you all but it is very difficult! Be assured that I am reading all messages and saying to myself "yeah me too!" at a lot of your worries/difficulties!

Twinkling my DS2 also does the snuffling and fidgeting but not latching on thing. It can be very frustrating esp in the early hours. I don't have the answer to it tho, sometimes if I leave him he will just sleep other times when I burp him he will burp.. but otherwise ????

LOL at *Daisy's "eating, sleeping, farting, crying machine" SOOO true!

Ceebs I also agree with Daisy that baby's will only ever take a finite amount of milk. I tried to regulate feeding but it didn't make any difference.

Sorry will try to get back later, HV just arrived...

coolkat · 12/12/2008 13:17

Morning ladies

just a quickie as have a friend coming.

I have just uploaded some pictures of Rebecca, one to make you smile - her top says "silent Night, you'll be lucky" I thought it was quite appropriate!!

Not one for clothing with slogans but nan bought this one and I liked it!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 12/12/2008 13:48

Coolkat, Zack has the same outfit, lol! It is very cute on. We got a reindeer top in 3-6 months to go with the bottoms for xmas eve/morning for pressie opening.

I almost don't want to post about our night when so many of you are sleepless in the UK. Plus, I would like it become a habit, but will probably jinx things, but maybe it will give hope to some of you, even if it was a 1 off.

Z was fed(tricky task when you have to gauge when he will want feeding so I can prepare him gaviscon), asleep and placed in his moses basket by 10.30pm last night. I wrapped some more presents for a hour then went to bed myself. Z started making some murmurs and grumblings at about 4am and I expected he was going to wake, but left him for a it to see if he would settle. He did and woke at 5.30am for a nappy change/feed and then went back in his basket at 6 for another 2 hours before coming in with me until 9. This is the baby who has co-slept since birth and would sleep nowhere but on me or smooshed up to me and has spent the last 4 nights in his moses basket with his first stint of sleep getting a little longer each night..... soon to be trashed by his 6 week growth spurt (5 weeks today!) I expect, lol.

It wasn't quite all plain sailing though. Z was still nicely sleepy when I was changing his nappy, until I lifted his bum to slip the fresh nappy under him and he decided to do a ginormous wee at that moment, all over his face and head, including in his eye, mouth and ear. Poor baby screamed and screamed and required a full change of vest/sleepsuit.

I hope everyones days are going well and that more sleep was achieved last night.

chocolategal · 12/12/2008 14:25

Happy birthday nic
well done heartmum bet you feel a bit better after a decent sleep!
Ewan has done that pee in face thing a few times now! silly boys

lovely pics too daisy was it a better night then?? hope so

hello to everyone else, off to grab lunch whilst E sleeping

SPARKLETOESiscomingtotown · 12/12/2008 14:26

Aww Heartmum that does give me hope! I know I am expecting too much of my LO at moment tho, he will only be 4 weeks old on Sunday! I think it is because he is such a big boy that I think he should be able to last longer between feeds. He was weighed today and is 12lbs 1 oz! Also thank you for that lovely comment you made on my FB page. You truly are a full of heart mum!

SPARKLETOESiscomingtotown · 12/12/2008 14:32

Glad I am not alone there ChocGal!!

Have also had the pee all over self situ and usually when in rush to get out, talk about more hurry less speed!

Ooh and happy birthday MummyNic have a good one!

As for Xmas decorations, we now have a baby swing where the tree should be.. ah well we can put the presents under that!

hi there

we had a better night . He was finished with his tummy grumblings and scrouchiness by 1.45am......put him in his crib until about 3.30, then he fed and coslept with me until after 7. I feel a lot better for the sleep but after a morning in town my pelvis is all achey and sore again. It's when I get up from standing, I can't move my left leg and walking is horribly sore until I get going, then it goes back to being a dull ache. WTF is going on with it?

He has had a massive poo today....first in over 36 hours so fingers crossed the tummy issues will be more mild tonight and we might even get to bed earlier. Well I will as after I express late, I'll have enough for DH to give him a full bottle feed!

coolkat, she is soo lovely; the top is cute. and wow at all that dark hair. We did have a hairy bunch didn't we?

heartmum, that sounds really positive on Z's sleeping; long may it continue

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nic......6 week growth spurt can be any time from 5-7 weeks ime!

Twinkling.....I've posted the nappies to you today

co-sleeping; I have kept the duvet (only a 4.5tog one) around my waist and covering F's legs, but I'm terrified that I'll hoick it up under my chin as I usually wrap myself up in it like a cocoon. I thought about putting him on top of the duvet with a blanket over him, but then thought that if I turn over and yank the duvet, I'll catapult him onto the floor, lol! I need some long sleeved pj tops though as I was freezing last night and resprted to sleeping in my dressing gown.

Registered him today so he is now official.

ChocOrange05 · 12/12/2008 19:28

Hi all

Sorry I haven't had time to read through everyone's posts. M is in bed, for now (!), and I really wanted to ask you about something. I will catch up with everything later if I have time...

M is driving me crazy at the moment and I don't know what to do about it. Basically he keeps wanting to feed if he's tired but not asleep, he roots and suckles and cries until he gets my breast but after every time he does this (times when I know he's not hungry because he's just had a feed) he is then sick 2 mins later and brings what looks like the whole lot back up again. Being sick never bothers him, it just comes back up so I don't think its reflux (especially as it only seems to happen when he comfort eats) but its driving me crazy having to use my breast to get him to sleep and being covered in sick.

I would appreciate any advice / ideas from you ladies as to what to do.

Sorry this is a very selfish non-chirpy post - DH is out tonight and I am feeling a bit lonely and down .

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 19:39

choco, DS2 does this to me as well....and it's generally when he is either tired or has got wind. He wants to suck, but gets frustrated at the breast as he gets annoyed when the let down reflex happens and he gets a gobful of milk.

are you using a dummy? some babies are just naturally sucky babies, and they will also want to suck when they have wind as windy pains feel like hunger pangs to them. Try some infacol before a feed, or gripe water (think it's OK for babies older than four weeks)

DS2 unfortunately struggles to get his wind up, and won't take a dummy, so we have to sit and let him suck on a finger until he falls asleep if tired, or burps/farts/poos as applicable if it's wind.

It will get better.

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 12/12/2008 19:43

twinkling and sparkle. i have exactly the same prob with my ds...waking hungry then not feeding properly, no burps coming or any sign of pain, manage to finally settle him then wakes hungry again. Must be a boy thing...dd feeds like a dream and when she cries she is def scrunching in pain. twinkle, i feel exactly like you nearly every night, i have stopped being shocked by it now.

barbs. what a fab midwife at whipps!! were you on maple or mulberry? was it prudence or michelle or elizabeth? feel like i got to know them all! one mw was hilarious...halima. dd choked badly on a feed, wasn't breathing. i was patting her back for ages, then she started going blue so i panicked and ran up to mw station in my pants (and a long t-shirt) . halima told me off for being indecent as it was about 7.50pm and still visitirs around, said i should have pressed buzzer. yeah, like a mw would have come 10 mins later.

co-sleeping. i put babies up high in the bed, covered with blankets then move pillow to about waist level of babies so even if duvet round my neck, it could never cover their faces, either put no duvet on them or cover their legs with a bit when it is v cold like last few nights. I can reach to stroke their heads or pat their backs, if they're sleeping on side to settle them and they now i am there.

AMerryMariAndHerHappyNewTwins · 12/12/2008 19:48

choco, sorry xpost, no advice, i haven't cracked it. as daisy says, this too shall pass.

ChocOrange05 · 12/12/2008 19:51

I have some Gripe Water Daisy but I haven't used it yet so might try that - he brings up lots of wind but then seems to be satisfied (i.e. no more wind/not unhappy) but I will try the GW and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks!
