Hello. All quiet here tonight. Hoping DS is ok tonight. Off to give him inhaler and then to bed. Day off tomorrow - yay

JacksFirstChristmasMama · 10/12/2008 00:21

Hi... may I join? I've been on MN since October but must have missed the post-natal club threads. My DS was born Feb 13, 08.
Just wanted to check if I could join because I wasn't in an ante-natal club so didn't know what the rules are...

swottybetty · 10/12/2008 09:34

hiya jacksfirst and welcome. there are no rules tho' in the interest of politeness we dont broadcast too loudly that we have the cutest set of babies on mumsnet. jack will be in good company

hi jacksfirst and welocme to what seems to be a very quiet thread atm!!!!

oh and merry christmas xxxx

been and had Rosie weighed and she is 21lb 11 oz, so doing well, aged now 43 weeks!!!! she has lost a couple of oz's since she was last weighed back in october but think it is due to having this never ending cold!!!!

JacksFirstChristmasMama · 10/12/2008 16:22

Whoops - will keep my boasting to a minimum then...
Merry Christmas all!!
So, will now go back and read through entire thread to get to know everyone!

blondiep14 · 10/12/2008 18:40

Hi ! I'm new too!
Jack is very cute!

strawberrycornetto · 10/12/2008 20:17

Hello Jacksfirst! I was a new joiner too and everyone here is lovely!

I had a hectic day off but all good. DD's last ballet before Xmas, a shrinking body wrap for me so I can keep my jeans fitting and lunch with a friend and her cute 4 month old.

DS is, I really hope and touch wood, on the mend. He's still got the horrible wheezy chest, but seemed much better in himself today, crawling and exploring everywhere . He had a little bit of a temperature tonight but nothing major, so I am really hoping we have turned a corner.

How is everyone else doing? Hope all minis are on the mend now...

loobyt · 10/12/2008 20:48

Hi, doulbt if anyone remembers me, I have posted a few times but am a regular reader. I find it difficult to post as ds has a thing about the laptop and likes to bash the keys with his hands, hense the number 2 key is missing, but will try to post more regularly from now on as I do love to read up about all of the lo's and their progress, it's reasurring when you have worries.

sorry to hear about all of the poorly lo's and hope everyone is well now.

How are everyones lo's getting on with the Christmas trees. Ds is interseted but only when he thinks I'm not looking! On the subject of taking my eyes off of him for a second, he tried his frist taste of dog buscuit this morning, luckily DH got to him before he swallowed it, yuk

Is anyone still bf in the night? I'm thinking about trying to wean him off of this and would be grateful if anyone has any tips!

CountTo10 · 10/12/2008 21:31

Hi loobyt, ds2 dropped his night feeds himself so didn't really have this problem but with ds1 I gave him water instead of milk and that soon put him off!! Does he feed for a long time at night? Perhaps you could go cold turkey?

Leesmum/strawb - sorry to hear lo's have been in hospital, hope they're feeling a lot better now - must have been awful.

Well first week down and it wasn't actually that bad. I think doing those days a few weeks back did me some good as it took away that constant worry about the dc. It's been quite manic but it's made it go quickly so that's a good thing!! Now just got the rest of my life to sort now!!

We had the nursery xmas play this morning and it was so funny. Ds1 was in pj's and sposed to be singing but just sat hiding behind his bear and in the end I had to go and do it with me!! Ds2 however dressed as a king bless him loved it and everytime he saw us gave us a big grin. I had the usual sentimental tears!!! We've got ds1's pre-school play this friday which should be good but I think he'll struggle. He hates the fact he's being watched by lots of people he doesn't know, he's a shy little thing around strangers bless him and he's not as comfortable at p-s as nursery so not sure how he's gonna handle it.

Re the xmas tree, ds2 has now taken to pulling everything off the bottom!! Such a monkey!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 10/12/2008 21:31

hi looby i remember you, great to hear from youxxxx sounds like your ds keeps u on your toes, y do they always got for pet food or water bowls, arghhhh

omy · 10/12/2008 22:05

Sarah - return to work interview! That's a bit bloody cheeky!

omy · 10/12/2008 22:14

Pet food - YES - she just laughs at my stern 'no' and grabs a handful of cat food as fast as she can before I get to her!

Welcome jacksfirst & Hi again Looby! I BF at 6am and 6pm - we stopped the night feeds by being absolutely determined to! When she woke at night my DH had to deal with it, as I would have given in and given her boob. He offered a beaker of water and soon she stopped waking for that!

swottybetty · 10/12/2008 22:37

hehe jacks first .... no no! we boast away here lots and lots but then we whistle and act all casual in rest of mumsnet .

leesmum - elfing slowed my laptop to the point of almost total meltdown. i only have mobile broadband, but may nip over to dh's classroom at weekend cause i want to finish elfing dd.

huulloo! how are you? dog biscuits seem quite nutritous compared to the stuff dd manages to pick off carpet and suck.

count, i am so looking forward to plays and the like . your ds's sound v sweet, i would have been welling up too. nearest we have got so far is putting a santa hat on dd while she's in the bouncer.

strawb, do those body wraps work?? and if so for how long? glad to hear your ds sounding so much better.

hmmm.... there is no egg for a couple of days. tomo is thurs, hopefully she will come and tell us she has been v busy and that all is cracking (gedditt??) in the house of egg.

sarah - did i thank you for that sambucca? what an excellent choice. i would never have thought of it myself . when we lived in london proper our local used to sell a shot called something like a fireball. it was sambucca and archers with a healthy dash of tabasco. lethal

today i have been feeling loads of fluttering in my tummy which is v exciting.

tomo i have to go sort out the boiler for the umpeenth time in our old flat. its such a hassle cause of not driving. takes 90min door to door and lots of stairs at stations, so have to stand there waiting for someone to help me with buggy. plus the flat is on second floor and there is no way i would ever get in the lift (even non-claustrophobes wouldnt use 'em. like teensy tiny steel boxes that always break). so i have to get dd out of buggy, push buggy in lift, press button and then run (with her) up to meet buggy on 2nd floor. jaaaayzus. must learn to drive. before there are two babies and i am housebound and rocking quietly in corner

loobyt · 11/12/2008 07:10

Just a quickie as DS id waiting for this breakie. Thanks for all of the advise re the night feeds. He only woke once last night so maybe I'll try the cold turkey route tonight.

Swotty - very exciting re fluttering. I remember it being a really strange feeling but also soooo exciting.

DS trying to eat christmas tree so better go will hopefully jump back on later!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 11/12/2008 07:38

omy=- fire ball sounds fab!!!!! your welocme for the drink btw- got me v pissed!!!!(fell in door gone 2 am!!!!!oh dear)

omy- yup work interview is terrible, i have been put on an 8 week probation and if i am ill again or off for the kids being porrly i will be passed to the big wig and could loose my job apparently!!!! (it is poilicy and everyone is treated the same) not very nice though- exp when your sat in the room sneezing, wheezing and coughing, cant u see i am genuine!!!!lol

swottly loved you egg craacking joke!!!!

well when we were all poorly we bought dd into our bed now i have had enough as if she wakes usually around 3 am, she cries till she comes in- how do i stop this and get her sleeping thru again(she is not fed at all btw)before i loose the plot!!!!not used to being woken by her and its wearing me down now, 3 weeks is long enough(oh and ps i know its all my fault and DH's of cource!!!!)

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 11/12/2008 08:04

sorry fireball comment was for swotty - not u omy!!!

Gill79 · 11/12/2008 11:33

Loobyt - I was feeding Malc constantly through the night till quite recently. The health visitor recommended introducing formula so he has one bottle in the daytime and one either at bedtime or at his 11pm feed. That's making a difference as he's going a lot longer between feeds. Also when he wakes 3, 4, 5amish I now try just bringing him into bed and giving him a power cuddle and shooshing until he's asleep so no milk needed. However as per Sarah's post this might be an issue!

Malc was very sick last night. Many changes of clothes, bedding etc between 7 and 3. He was really listless - it was quite bad. He's kept breakfast down this morning and I let him sleep in till 9. What a sacrifice

Very scarily our washing machine is making a noise like it's chewing nails. Oh heck.

Sarah about your oh-so sympathetic employers. I'm pretty worried about work now - after looking like I was going to be able to go back 2 days a week the company has lost the majority of the contracts they were bidding for for next year. The whole team is to redeployed so I feel really nervous they might not offer me part-time work as a way of reducing their head-count, since I definitely wouldn't work full-time. It's really difficult since I don't know the company at all well (have been on maternity leave longer than I was working there) and don't really who to speak to or what the precedents are for this sort of thing. I think it would be really hard to find a new job on a part-time basis that would cover nursery fees.

Right - better go. Have stuck Malc in front of cbeebies strapped into his highchair and he keeps twisting round to give me these sad looks pleeeeaasse take me out and play with me. What a bad mummy.

alkar · 11/12/2008 12:13

Hope malcolm gets a better night tonight Gill

I am just bf once in the morning and once at bedtime but after listening to some of you I'm not sure that its enough??

What is it with babies and pet food. I keep thinking I have put the cat biscuits well out of reach (and sight) but he still finds them - 3 times this morning!!!!

Hello to jacksmama

Been to nursery this morning for DSs trial hour. All looks ok but I stayed with him so it was no diferent to playgroup really. He's going for a half day next week though.

Dont worry about your return to work interview thing sarah. There are loads of people who work for the nhs that just take the mick. I've known people to be off for 6 months on full pay, come back for a week then go off sick again so its them they are trying to stop not people that are genuinely ill.

swottybetty · 11/12/2008 12:54

argh, listless is always a scary word in relation to a baby. i always take comfort that in dd's screamathon's for that very reason . dd now has a cold and a bit of a chesy cough. treacherous darn baby cried all evening last night (maybe an exaggeration, maybe she cried from 10pm ish ) and then dh finishes work at 11pm, walks in and has her settled and asleep within ten min. i was tempted to pack my bags and go!

ugh gill re work. has anyone conacted you to say anything formal yet? are you sure they not just redeploying people to make way for your return?? .

OP posts:
swottybetty · 11/12/2008 12:56

thats a chesty cough, not a cheesy cough in case anyone was wondering just what kind of ailments a baby could catch in croydon parts

ImSallyIHaventAClue · 11/12/2008 13:56

hello all
sorry not been posting. sorry to hear about all the poorly lo's.
right gotta go, am at work

strawberrycornetto · 11/12/2008 15:03

Swotty, how exciting about the fluttering. That's the coolest thing of all I think .

Sarah, I think your employer is being mean

Gill, if your company make redundancies, you should be given the right of first refusal for any vacancies while you are on mat leave, and they should then consider your request to work part time for the new role. I hope its all ok.

gingermumi · 11/12/2008 17:10

hi ladies, sadly i miscarried at the weekend. Not really up to chatting but hope all well. will try to catch up later in week.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 11/12/2008 17:12
