I thought I'd start a new thread before we run out of space...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ponymum · 02/12/2008 17:01

Hello, sorry haven't been on much - just been so busy...

We have so much SNOW!! But boo hoo instead of being able to walk in it with DD today I had to go to a physio appointment. DH was working at home this morning so we decided to try an experiment: I didn't take DD with me! I felt like I wasn't dressed properly or had forgotten something really important. Very weird. Glad I didn't have her in the car though as the lane to our village wasn't gritted and the snow had frozen in the shade. At one point I actually slid right across an intersection! Luckily no traffic coming, but pretty scary.

The physio said I am doing too much and need to reduce my physical activity by at least 10% until I have regained the core strength lost through SPD and 6 months of immobility. Oh.. so frustrating! She said I must prioritise my strengthening exercises, but I just can't find the time to do them. DD wants to be held or fed all day long and won't let me put her down. Like right now she is all clingy half asleep on my lap, but screams if I try to put her in her basket. I hope this is a phase...

Christmas names... er.. Donkeymum?? Any better suggestions?

lollipopmother · 02/12/2008 17:35

Ponymum - Now please don't think of me as a bad mummy, but my DD used to be like that and my mother suggested putting her in the basket on her front ... I hate to say it but it works for her, she just hates being transferred from being all warm and asleep on my shoulder to going onto her back, although she goes down straight away on her back for the night.

Debs75goldrings · 02/12/2008 18:22

just checking name change

Debs75goldrings · 02/12/2008 18:23

woo-hoo now off to change profile. it says i have no children.....Ooohhh the days

plusonemore · 02/12/2008 19:44

oh dear...ds1 poorly with coldy/chesty/high temp thing. wont take any medicine even disguised in juice, fell asleep in 30 seconds flat. i too am feeling poorly- coldy/soer throat and now also bit sicky. ds2 just had a funny 10 mins when he kept pulling off the breast and screaming, although fed ok in the end. DH has booked tomorrow off work so we can christmas shop= not gonna happen is it? What else can I do bout ds1 anyone?

plusonemore · 02/12/2008 19:59

can you still bf if throwing up?

ninjinglebells · 02/12/2008 20:04

yep

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/12/2008 20:11

plus sorry you're not well, we're still all recovering at sunflower residence, the sore throat/cold thingy still lingering with all 4 of us after 3 weeks so sending get-better-vibes! I did bf last time while sick, but not an expert (actually, saw the local children's centre advertising course for volunteer bf councellors for new bf group and thinking of going for it, starts in feb, so maybe then I'll know, but hope you'll be fine by then!!!)

as expected, DD woke up at 5am this morning, so after 20 mins gave up and fed her (though I guess the main problem was the dirty nappy, which was unusual as she never poos at night )

right then, all these xmassy names, need to think of one too then... will think better after I finish my glass of wine

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 02/12/2008 20:12

oh, I like b) title

hopefully · 02/12/2008 20:52

Well what a nice day it's been at Camp Hopefully. T has been on fine form, despite deciding to start the day at 6:15am - smiled and cooed lots and slept really well. He even went down in record time (well, he fell asleep about half an hour ago) after his bath and feed - keeping him downstairs with us has proved such a lifesaver for this!

Isn't it funny how some things work for some sleeps and not for others?

TheHollyandtheBarnpot · 02/12/2008 23:07

Everyone in the house is asleep, Elliot's asleep on me, steve asleep on the sofa with the dog. and i'm jiggered, i cant be bothered to go to bed

imoscarsmum · 02/12/2008 23:57

Like 'b' as new name, especially with a at end.

carrieon thanks for the advice, though I'm ff so not sure if moving to fewer feeds is the advice for us (have posted on separate thread for help). Currently trying earlier bath/bedtime, though bedtime is in basket with us in living room.

I'm curious though (never read GF and if I remember right, you're a fan), do your LOs have their naps in their cots everyday, and does that mean you can't get out during the day (as I believe GF recommends).
I'm curious as C never sleeps in her basket during day, though at night it's not a problem. We also go out lots in the day, so she sleeps in carseat, in pram, in bouncer etc. Just wondered if I should give her more structured naps.

Off to bed now - up way too late!!

pacitaInApearTree · 03/12/2008 04:18

Testing my Xmas name.

I think I blew it. I'm feeding D to sleep AGAIN having fed him and put him in his cot twice... I figured that as we are not at home he needed extra comforting. He would just not settle. What should I do?

hopefully · 03/12/2008 08:43

imoscarsmum, as I recall, GF believes that babies should spend those naps that are at home in a cot in a darkened room, but she specifically recommends getting out with the pram or something for one nap, and I've certainly not found that following a routine means I'm in any way tied home for nap times.
I think her philosophy is that babies should have some naps in their cot so that they are happy to sleep there, so you don't end up with a baby that needs to be walked/driven around etc to sleep during the day, but that's my interpretation. The book is so abysmally written that sometimes it's hard to see what she's really trying to get at (I personally think that the dictatorial style comes more from bad writing than the way she actually thinks).

foxytocin · 03/12/2008 09:33

Hi Everyone. it is lovely having dh at home 24 hrs a day. dd1 is infatuated with him all over again. He is amazed that she looks bigger and is more articulate than when he left. I am just happy for the lie ins and not having to get 2 ready on my own when i have to go out.

We are off to Abu Dhabi on the 15th and the plan at the moment is for me to spend most of my maternity leave out there till it gets too hot - June-ish and return with the girls.
It looks like that is where eandz and I will have a meetup.

This Caribbean girl can hardly wait to have another Christmas in the sun. My first in 11 years.

Debs75 Have you had the chance to post the Babyhawk back yet? I plan to take it with us as it will be cooler to use out there. Dh has already scuppered my plan to take 7 wraps.

DebitheScot · 03/12/2008 09:37

imoscarsmum GF does say naps should be in bed but ds2 doesn't have all his naps in his bed. When I was trying to get him to nap during the day in bed I tried to make sure at least 1 of his 3 naps each day was in his bed and he gradually increased the time he'd stay asleep for until now he does 2 45min naps and 1 about 2 hours. Someone also suggested to me (might have been hopefully and/or carrieon) that if he slept for 2 hours in the buggy or carseat that that was good as it got him used to having a longer sleep in middle day. Seemed to work for me anyway.

ILikeToHoHoHo · 03/12/2008 09:55

imoscarsmum - ds2 tends to have 2 naps a day in his cot, and the last one of the day on me (that's me loving being snuggled up )

I don't find it restricting as I'm not really strict about it. His first sleep is about 90 mins after he has woken in the morning and the second is over lunchtime. If we are going out in the morning and the car journey is a long one, I time the journey to be the same time as his nap, and the same for the return journey.

I try and stick to the rule that he has at least one nap in his cot day. If he has that and all other naps are on the go (in the car or in the pram) then I don't worry. It seems to work for us.

ILikeToHoHoHo · 03/12/2008 09:57

Oh, and I meant to say I'm loving the Christmas name changes

Hopefully - remember you need to make your christmas cake this week. I've now got to decide how to decorate mine......

imsantasmum · 03/12/2008 10:18

just testing my festive name

pacitaInApearTree · 03/12/2008 11:20

LOL imsantasmum

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/12/2008 11:46

Okay so my 2yr old and my 11 week old are BOTH asleep on the feeding pillow on my lap. I really wish I could enjoy it but I'm busting for the loo.

ninja I found the connecta in our recyling bin . Postman must have left it there instead of posting/ringing! Thank you. I've not tried it yet but it looks very comfortable.

barnpot The more I think about it the more I am with your HV. I said her advice wasn't harmful, but actually it could be since increasing supply and therefore foremilk could actually mean your lo is getting LESS fat, which would trigger more interference.

Is he following the 50% curve but just way below, or does his weight show him to have a steeper curve than the 50% line ie closing the gap? If he is doing either of these things then he is doing fantastically and so are you!

So who's gonna start a new thread?

ipanemagirl · 03/12/2008 12:31

hopefully totally agree on the poor writing, sometimes it's very difficult to understand what is meant!!!

becaroodolf · 03/12/2008 12:58

Been to baby massage again today which Toby loves. His cough is horrid...GP says hes fine though.

Hope you all like my name change!!!

Debs75goldrings · 03/12/2008 13:10

Foxytocin Off to post it when i go to baby clinic. Was too hectic yesterday at the hospital, we were there hours.

Put Robyn in her cot, finally. She is still in the moses basket inside the cot but she can't see me and is struggling to settle so we are off to get some cot sheets.
Also she has leaked in her disposable pampers during the night,(use washables during the day and no leaks so far) she is sleeping for 8 hours so is in them for 9 hours or so. Should I wake her earlier then her normal 8am for a change? Have to admit we have been sleeping in as dd1 can get herself ready for school. When ds is back (tomorrow hopefully) i won't be so lazy.

Debs75goldrings · 03/12/2008 13:19
