I thought I'd start a new thread before we run out of space...

ILTMIMI i love making christmas cake - I am determined to start ours next week.

ipanemagirl your day sounds pretty much like mine. I do generally manage to get dressed early, but only at the expense of doing any washing up (that's my excuse for not doing it, anyway).
I find if I actually want to, I can get a fair bit done, as T will happily sit and watch me hang out laundry etc, but it's much more fun devoting all attention to him! Luckily dp is very understanding...

OMG t is having the laziest feed in the world. he woke up from his nap all happy and refreshed, and is now just chilling at the breast in between the odd leisurely suck. he's wide awake, just being a slacker! Too cute to be forced to feed more efficiently though.

imoscarsmum · 25/11/2008 15:42

ipanemagirl I get stuff done in between looking after C. It's hard getting balance between doing stuff and making time to be with her, IYKWIM, she can be very chilled and a bit too easy to leave in her chair/mat etc, but she has days where she cries alot, so I get nowt done!
She's getting better though.

I have to say I always have a shower and get dressed, even if she cries a bit. I need it to feel human and thus be a better mummy!!

Took some great photos at weekend of her for the xmas photo cards and photo presents for DM/MIL - put on profile. I am very proud...

eandz · 25/11/2008 16:23

hello everyone!

star
there was a Arabic gentleman next to me whilst my pumping and he did make sure to cough loudly to show me he disapproved, but i was covered with my bebe au lait hooter hider thing and 'ah hemmed' back before i started.

i got mil chanel no 5 and then went wild and got myself some much needed concealer. i hope it works tonight at her birthday dinner. i also bought her a set of gold bracelets from dubai, but i think i might just keep them for myself. i'd get more use out of them. (at least an extra 50 yrs) haha.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/11/2008 18:21

hopefully - I've got MIL coming round tomorrow. She'll take M out in his pram for an hour or so, so I'm going to make the cake then.

The ingrediants have been staring at me from the cupboard for a few weeks, so I thought it was about time I got my arse into gear

I am bloody shattered today, so I'm looking forward to my little monkey going to bed and I'm going to have a good long soak with a glass of Magners sitting on the side of the bath!

digitalgirl · 25/11/2008 18:47

A has just done his third poo of the day after being a once a week baby for the last month. I think this signifies the end of his growth spurt. He'll probably start losing weight now, with all this extra jiggling he's started doing. Honestly he's like a different baby today, he's been feeding within 15 minutes and then wanted to play afterwards as opposed to sleep or grizzle.

We went out for lunch with my workmates today and he actually allowed me to eat lunch and I didn't have to spend the entire time with my baps out. I don't want to get my hopes up in case this was a one off but if he was like this everyday I might actually be able to plan more interesting days!

pacita · 25/11/2008 19:02

I'm getting all anxious as Diego's skin has taken a turn for the worse. I have followed some of your suggestions, bought aveeno, tried vaseline (the old fashioned way that some deramatologists swear by) and olive oil. I know nothing is going to be immediate...

I fear the cause may be an allergy to diary in my diet, so I've decided to cut it out and see what happens. The poor little lamb has been awake all day except for a nap in the sling this morning, and although he's not crying, I can tell by how much breast he is demanding that he is not comfortable.

Talking about getting things down, today I have got absolutely NOTHING done, as he wants to be held or fed all the time, and otherwise I've been taking him out for walks. He hasn't even fallen asleep in the buggy, would you believe??

I don't get a lot done usually. I do the housework once a week on the day that ds1 is at his childminder but obviously I can only do as much as ds2 lets me. I have however done virtually all the Christmas shopping- mostly done online with 1 hand while holding/bouncing ds2.

becaroo · 25/11/2008 19:30

pacita I do feel for you and poor diego My ds1 had awful skin when he was tiny and it was only when I stopped bathing him every night (as recommended to help get him into a relaxing routine!!! ha!) that his skin improved.

I cant remember if you said you had been to the doctor??? If not, perhaps that is worth a try? My ds1 has something called Fucibet for when he excema gets bad (this time of year unfortunately) and it works brilliantly - even clears up the really red/sore/broken skin in a matter of 2-3 days.

You could be right about your diet but it could also be something environmental - when did this start and was it after a change of some sort i.e.: washing detergent, bath oil, nappy cream??? Have you changed deoderant? Used a differnet perfume of hairspray? I know it sounds mad, but you would be amazed at what some babies are sensitive to!! My friend had to stop using deoderant whilst she was bf as her baby was sensitive no matter what she tried.

Sorry, I am not being very helpful am I? Really hope it gets better soon x

Sassyfrassy · 25/11/2008 20:24

Pacita, have you been back to your gp? It's possible you might need some cortison cream for any bad patches of exzema. Try putting the cream on as often as you can during the day and as Becaroo said, don't give him baths very often.

I havent tried the diet thing myself but from reading about it, it seems that dairy or gluten can have an impact on exzema. I do hope he feels better soon.

Dd1 has a bad cold today with a fever and really bad cough. This is the first time she's been properly ill for two years so it's a bit of a shock to all of us. She ended up sleeping on the sofa most of the afternoon.

TooMuchMakkaPakka · 25/11/2008 21:11

ipanemagirl - I find it really hard to get anything done. Usually by midday everyone is dressed and i have cleared away the breakfast things. DD is starting to feed all morning as she is sleeping through a bit better and wakes up really hungry. If suddenly they go both sleep at same time i might get something done, or i might just sit down and go on MN. I feel like I need a cleaner and i'm at home all day - clearly i'm not meant to be a housewife (hate that word). but then i remind myself that DD is only 9 weeks old and try to chill out.

Debithescot i've done xmas shopping too - more fun than housework

Pacita - olive oil was recommended by HV and really worked for my DD i did it nearly every day for a week thou- and she didn't like it much. Hasn't come back either.

DebitheScot · 25/11/2008 21:46

anyone know if you have to throw out formula milk powder if not used within 4 weeks?

ninja · 25/11/2008 21:51

Imoscarsmum I've replied to your e-mail. Looking forward to meeting

pacita sorry diego's been so unsettled. I hope you manage to find something that helps.

ipanemagirl · 25/11/2008 23:20

thanks all replies re low achievers!
I do have to learn to chill. It's so nice just hanging out with her though, I could just stare at her all day, I still can't believe we've been lucky enough to have another!
Sleep well all

ninja · 26/11/2008 08:03

Morning!

So why has M now decided to feed every 2 hours? Last week she was going til 4.30/5 ish for a feed [tired emotion]

foxytocin · 26/11/2008 08:14

Morning all.

any idea how to take the smell of wee out of the wellies of a 3yo?

DH is back on Friday. Huuurrrrayyyyy!
A mate is bringing him home from the airport friday morning so the Foxcubs and I are off to play group and he will come down to surpise DD1.

We are off to a slingmeet this morning and dd2's first jabs this afternoon so today is all filled up.

See ya later with handy tips to freshen wellies, I hope.

ninja · 26/11/2008 08:43

ooops!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/11/2008 09:30

ninja - ds does this every so often, but I'm comforted by the fact that it only lasts for a couple of days. So I'm hoping it's the same with M.

Foxy - why have you wee'd in your dd's wellies? Was it because of the excitement of your dh coming home?! Seriously, I bet you're working yourself up into a complete excited frenzy about him returning. I know I would be an emotional wreck (but in a good way!)

ninja · 26/11/2008 09:43

ILTMIMI I'm hoping so - it seems to have got gradually worse over the last few days - I think she might be a bit coldy as she seems very snuffly this morning so maybe that's it.

Foxy I'm sure you can just wash wellies - they might take a while to dry tho'

imoscarsmum · 26/11/2008 09:43

ninja just replied to your email - hope today goes beter for you. All set for tomorrow!!

Off to baby sensory soon and then into Chester for xmas shopping - love busy days!

DebitheScot · 26/11/2008 09:56

OK I have a list of questions, answers on a postcard please

  1. Formula milk Q I asked last night (asked it then as was doing an online shop and wondering if I needed to buy more)
  1. Am I the only person on here who hasn't 'done it' yet? DH is starting to get antsy for it but I always feel too tired and put off by the settling to sleep noises by ds2 at the bottom of the bed. I do feel a bit bad, ds2 will be 3 months old on Monday and it's December then and dh hasn't had much since about Jan!
  1. How long is it ok to swaddle babies for? DS2 loves being swaddled and I always swaddle him for naps if he'll be in his bed. But I'm sure I remember reading/hearing somewhere that you shouldn't do it for too long but can't remember why or how long 'too long' is. I have tried this morning to put him down in a sleeping bag and he has gone to sleep but put up quite a fight and I had to go up and settle him which I don't normally have to do.
  1. Anyone else feel like they are drowning under dirty washing? I can't keep on top of it and it doesn't dry if its outside and there's nowhere to dry it inside, esp now ds2 is in his cot in our room rather than the crib which fitted nicely beside the bed.
  1. Can't remember what 5 was but I know there was something else.
Treadmillmom · 26/11/2008 10:06

Hello, it's me Treadmillmom, hello all you New Yummy Mummy's.
My lovely daughter is 8 weeks this week and is having her first jabs this morning boo, hoo.
Anyway, today has been the first real opportunity for me to post.
My 2 boys are absolutely besotted with thier sister, she is a victim of being constantly kissed and is sometimes irrated by smothering.
DS1 has not been phased by her arrival but poor DS2 is suffering but slowly getting better.
Initially he became angry and aggressive (fortunatly never directing his feelings to her), now he wants me to baby him to the same degree as DD1, I was even forced to carry him in my ring sling round the kitchen, nearly broke my bloody back, he's 3! Then more recently he asked to suckle I refused but offered him EBM in a cup, which he liked but has not asked for a repeat shot.
He's been attending pre-school for the last 3 weeks which he loves and is much happier.
He's very protective of her and chases anyone that dares to look into the pushchair.
Anyway, back to the Princess, she is a much loved and welcome addition to our family.
Her sleeping was fabulous and I was blissfully smug at the breastfed newborn who could sleep between 5 - 7 hours a night, who could be put in her cot awake and settle herself UNTIL she got snuffly in the last 2 weeks and my nights have been transformed into nightmarish 2 hourly feeds taking approx 2.5hrs to settle due to being blocked up. I'm so tired, I could sleep a lifetime, no such sleep when baby sleep's for me I have 2 other boys to look after and a husband who is out of the house 12 hours a day.
Breastfeeding is going really well and I'm even donating EBM to the local authority milk bank.
Glad to say even though I'm heavier my body has shrunk back to its pre-pregnancy shape and was in my jeans week 2, I'm accused of starving myself, to the contary, I truly eat enough to feed an entire army.
Any tips ladies on how to sort her snuffle problem, tilted mattress hasn't helped, saline not making a difference and obviously no drugs can be used due to her age. Shower's on the blink so can't steam her either!

DebitheScot · 26/11/2008 10:39

treadmillmom there are drops you can buy to help unstuff the nose, I found they were ok but then got some on prescription which were better. Mothercare also sell a thing that sucks the snot out the nose, gross but works quite well!

treadmillmom - you can get a Karvol plug in which works well for cleaning out the passages. Or you can also put a damp flannel with olbas oil on on the radiator - it doesn't last as long as the plug-in though.

debithescot

  1. I should think the reason you have to throw formula out after 4 weeks is because of bacteria growth in the powder.
  1. I have done the deed, but only a couple of times as I really can't be arsed. And ds is in his own room - I couldn't do it with him in the room
  1. I swaddled ds1 for daytime naps until he was about a year old. But he was in a grobag at night. So sorry, I don't really have an answer for you.
  1. Tell your dh that if he wants sex he has to fork out for a tumble dryer
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 26/11/2008 11:40

debi
1 - don't know, sorry
2 - no! took 6 months last time, probaly even longer this time (plus with dd sleeping between us and exhaustion taking over...)
3 - a friend of mine has done it/doing it for months
4 - have 2 airers constatly up, the would-be-nursery is a jungle of dirty washing, the crib is filled with clean washing, plus another 2 baskets as well... machine going as we speak and dryer finishing off nappies and towels so that i have airer free for next load...

treadmill - I did as iltmimi said, wet flanne; with olbas on radiator
