Starlight M latches like that as well a lot of the time (although she can latch right)- lots of air and therefore wind. She doesn't chuck it up though and is getting SO fat that I'm sticking with it!!

I must admit I'm glad when DH takes her from me sometimes and so my nipples get a rest. Since I seem to get 6 - 7 oz when I express I guess she's a big feeder.

No problem FullMoonHowler it's best to get what's right for you - you might be worth finding your nearest sling meet as you can hire slings out cheaply and find out what you like, might even be cheaper to keep hiring than to buy.

I know what you mean as the 'using you as a dummy' comments Foxy - I have my MIL over (arrived today) and I'm just waiting for them.

notcitrus · 30/10/2008 22:24

A is officially a little piglet - he's been feeding like mad for days, and it turned out he's put on 12 oz in a week! My breasts are starting to get better as we've mastered latching, but it looks like the thrush might not be going - confirmed by midwife at bf cafe today.
Which I guess means going to the GP (my fave one, not the snotty one I saw last week) and getting some enormous dose of something. Joy.

Still, I've survived the 6-week growth spurt so with luck will be able to bf a while longer and get more sleep soon. Although not tomorrow as SILs1+2 and BIL are visiting with their babies.

Tip: do not get stuck on a bus in rush hour with a hungry baby. Breastfeeding is impossible, you can't escape until the next stop, and for added crap, even off the bus there's nowhere to sit down in office-lined streets. Finally found the loo in an M&S - there was in fact a cahnging room with a chair for feeding upstairs, just totally unadvertised. But then had a very hacked-off baby...

Star1ightExpress · 30/10/2008 22:37

12oz Despite our bf probs Baby S has been putting on around 8oz a week, but 12? again!

Anyone elses lo obviously dream of feeding in their sleep? My lo chomps her mouth on and off as if feeding. Sooooo cute!

hopefully · 31/10/2008 09:05

urgh, night of doom. T woke at 1:30 and 4:30, normally only
wakes once afer his 10:30 feed - i think i'm still enjoying the tail end of the week's growth spurt. Thank god, dp has the day off today, as i went into total meltdown at 5am and he could take him after the feed. if he's disastrous again tonight i might express and top up after the 10:30 feed in the hope of pushing him a bit longer. the next step is expressing that whole feed so dp can do it, but i need to actually fit in enough expressing time!

Pidge · 31/10/2008 09:36

another quick one from me - jigging tetchy babe in one arm while one handed typing. A is now back at birth weight. Hooray. And feeding definitely less painful - still sore but no longer yelping with pain through each feed.

Nights generally we have two wakings, so also
not bad. And yesterday I had a domestic flurry and baked gingerbread, cupcakes and made pumpkin soup. Dp is on half term hols which helps, but the cupcakes I made one handed whilst cuddling A in the other arm!

FullMoonHowler · 31/10/2008 09:38

here too. M woke at 4 as usual, but as she hasn't really fed for the last few nights when she wakes up, I thought I'd just insist with dummy and cuddles.... after 40 mins I gave up and offered boob, but only fed for about 5 mins and then she didn't want anymore and took ages to get her o sleep again. And as usual, at 7 only has half a feed and she's full so have to express other side cos it's about to explode, and after 1 hr she's ready for more...

MuwahahahaMom · 31/10/2008 09:43

morning gals, errr happy halloween? ((anyone of you getting dressed up with the kiddies?)) i know it's a bigger deal in the states than it is here, but i still cant bring myself to get into costume and go around with ds1 just yet. ((i think the last time i got dressed up for halloween to go trick or treating with other children was maybe 6 years ago? and i was 'rubbish'. very last minute. just put a black bin back over my head, made eye holes, and pinned 'clean' bits of rubbish from my house all over the bag. must find the photo....

My HV came around again yesterday. ds2 is now 4 weeks. he gained 8 oz in a week...bringing him to a whopping 12lbs 7oz now!

per a mates suggestion, i bought a small ready-made carton of aptimil for "hungrier babies". ds2 ate the WHOLE THING!!! 200ml!!!! but then spat up what appeared to be at least half of it! not to mention, the spit up was the consistency of chunky chalk, looking like cottage cheese. it wasn't pleasant. and then i spotted the "warning" on the side of the carton about needing the recommendation from the gp or mw before giving it to baby. needless to say, i won't be giving it to him again. i think he's happiest with his sma gold for now.

hope sorry to hear you had a less than pleasant night. fingers crossed tonight works out to be a bit more smooth.

righty, too long of a post...i'm off to hang with ds1.

I am selling the Close baby carrier in rouge (red). It comes with its original box, instruction booklet and DVD for £36.00 (£30.00 plus 6.00 P&P).I have used it for about 4 hrs, so it is in excellent condition.I will wash it before sending it.

Hi,this Sunday I am putting the carrier on ebay and I thought to give you a chance to buy it first if you are interested.

T have 3 slings: the Close, the Kari-me and the Gipsymama. So far I have used the Close to go to pick up my son from school 2 days, for a walk into town and a couple of hours at home. The Kari-me and the Gypsymama are the ones I am using because Lorea has colic and likes being very close to my body and the Kari-me is like wearing a very tight t-shirt with a baby inside. So at home if it is hot I use the Gypsy and in the street the Kari-me. I was keeping it for my husband to use,(I can see him with the purple Gypsymama), but he is working at weekends and so far he has only put it on for a photo I took.
Anyway, if you are interested, let me know, you can pay me with PayPal. Just send me your email adress and I will send you an email requesting payment through PayPal. I will send it strait away after payment.

TooMuchTV · 31/10/2008 11:20

My Tinokis sling arrived this morning having only ordered it yesterday afternoon and ds is asleep in it at the moment! I don't think I've tied it tight enough to give good support so will have to re-tie it once he wakes up. Pleased with it so far though.

MuwahahahaMom · 31/10/2008 11:37

ive only just been convinced that i need a sling for ds2 since he is almost always crying if he doesn't have body warmth surrounding him. not sure if anyone has any experience or opinions about Freedom Slings , but if you do, feel free to tell me! tyty

eandz · 31/10/2008 12:22

happy halloween!!!

i was going to put Noah in a pumpkin that i had hallowed out but, then realized that it could be seen as child abuse and if i took pictures, then that would serve as evidence. so his day costume is him in an orange and white babygrow that says 'boo' and he's got black bat booties and a 'i love my mummmy' bib on with a mummy on it. i think it looks sooo cute!

tonight his costume is going to be 'rap star' baby. just for pictures though. he's too young to trick or treat.

hopefully · 31/10/2008 12:47

Ooh, lollipop thanks for the offer, I'd be really interested to try it. Do you have an email address I can send you my address on? the only email address I have has my full name on it, but I'll give you DP's anonymous hotmail one if you're the same!

carrieon · 31/10/2008 12:58

I'm so tired. It took every sleep prop in the book to get ds to settle yesterday evening - rocking him in a bouncy chair while he had a dummy. If the music stopped, he woke up. Thankfully it worked and he was awake enough to take a full feed at 10:30, but then was up for 2 hours in the night. Going back to bed now while the dcs snooze. Can feel my fuse is very short now, have already shouted at dd this morning

Star1ightExpress · 31/10/2008 13:28

carrieon Couldn't get dd to sleep until 3am. She fed every half hour (sleepily) until 8. Slept 2 hours til 10 and is pinning me to the sofa once more

I desperately need a shower too!

lollyheart · 31/10/2008 14:12

i have an hour or so to myself
ive sent dh to get dd and ds1 hairs cut,i bet they come back without having it cut tho, the hair dressers are packed in half term, if dh has to wait more than 10 mins he will just leave

I dont know if i should sleep or do housework mmm.

Slings... I am thinking of getting something like a Close sling. Never used one before. potxola - v interested to see you are selling yours (but tbh honest red is NOT my colour ). But if you don't mind can you tell me a bit about what it is like to use to help me decide if it is right for me?

My requirements are:

  • stretchy fabric
  • hold baby close upright
  • feel that she is very secure and can't fall
  • good wide weight bearing over both shoulders
  • most important: really simple to use and to get sleepy or crying baby into it quickly by myself with minimal adjustment each time I put it on

I bought a pouch type liberty sling (simple circular piece of fabric worn diagonally). It is very simple but I don't feel dd is secure, and the uneven weight-bearing is terrible for me. I need something for when dd just wants to be held but I need to get on with things.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be any sling meets out here in deepest, darkest Nth Yorkshire so any opinions appreciated!

potxola · 31/10/2008 15:22

Ignore this if you have already read it. I just want to make sure yu all see this.

potxola · 31/10/2008 15:24

headlesshorsemum I will answer in a sec. Lorea is crying

Headlesshorsemum · 31/10/2008 15:29

Hmmm... in fact, I need a sling right now as I have to get the washing out of the machine and hung up, but dd is semi-asleep / "pretending" to feed on me. If I try to move her into the basket she wails until I pick her up again and hold her. (Or am I just too soft? Maybe a sling is not the answer?)

potxola · 31/10/2008 15:48

I am back

  • stretchy fabric: YES, but not a lot
  • hold baby close upright. YES
  • feel that she is very secure and can't fall.YES
  • good wide weight bearing over both shoulders.Yes
  • most important: really simple to use and to get sleepy or crying baby into it quickly by myself with minimal adjustment each time I put it on. ABSOLUTELY.

Have a look at the info. Starlight and Jearund have it and can tell you about it.
I know it is the best in the market, precisely because all those requirements.

potxola · 31/10/2008 15:50

Sorry I forgot the link for you to lokk at.

Headlesshorsemum · 31/10/2008 16:03

Thanks potxola! So it looks like my research has been correct, and that the Close might be the one for me. I think I have rejected the wilkinet and kari-me as it looks like you have to completely re-tie them each time you put it on, but the Close you can leave semi done up and just tighten the rings. Is that right?

Still typing with one hand while dd dozes on me... I can reach the laptop but nothing else. Washing is festering in the machine... all I have is mumsnet and solitaire...
