Hope no one minds me starting a new thread?

Hi all,

Hope you are all well!!

Glad to hear the 'ups' and sorry to hear the 'downs' hope things get better soon.

Just a quick one, Erin absolutely hates bathtime - well likes being in the bath but absolutely screeches when taken out. I have a nice warm cuddle towel ready and waiting but she still hates it - is this something I just have to get on with or does anyone have any tips for me???

Take care and thanks in advance!!

Argh, horrible morning. After a pretty textbook night - fed at 10:30, settled by 00:30, woke at 04:30 for another feed. however, since getting up at 8, T has slept for precisely 20 minutes, 2 10 min stretches in the bouncy chair, with me bouncing it frantically. he has also screamed copiously, think he's constipated again.

I have also managed to slice my foot open on a shard of glass i missed when cleaning up after breaking a glass yesterday. ouch!!

hopefully · 30/10/2008 12:03

kagey, T was exactly the same, he loves his bath but hates the before and after bit. we bathe him daily as it relaxes him so much, provided the clothes go back on quickly afterwards. he now just about copes, after we perfected:

  • keeping him well wrapped, to the extent of almost dressing him wrapped in the towel - his skin is only exposed to the air one limb at a time, for a fraction of a second
  • he goes straight on the breast after the bath (half the feed before bath, half after), so he knows something nice is coming
  • nappy, sleepsuit and towe;l are laid out ready, in the right order, on the radiator by the bath so everything is warm. we also keept the bathroom - which is tiny - really really warm at bathtime.
  • dp baths him, as i get too stressed anticipating the screaming, which only makes it worse.
HTH!

FullMoonHowler I have an autumnul orange Moby I was going to sell (also have a kari-me and a Gypsy Mama - so don't need them all)

If you want to try it let me know and I'll send it and you can decide if you like it.

mellabella · 30/10/2008 12:29

haha, found this on another thread and thought you all might like it-especially when all everyone says is "sleep while the baby sleeps"..........

"(Does anyone else hate the choice: you can either go to bed as soon as your dc do, and spend every minute of the day on either childcare or being asleep like some kind of souless robot, or you can stay up for an hour and do a bit of housework, have a glass of wine, phone a friend, and watch the minutes of potential sleep time tick away...)"

Kagey · 30/10/2008 12:51

Thanks Hopefully, I'll try that this evening! My DP has taken a break from bathtime as I don't think she has forgiven him from his first attempt!

Hope your foot is ok - ouch!

Mellabella, I've tried to take a nap when Erin does, but the guilt of tidying up is too strong (and the lure of checking emails and this website).

Thanks again!
X

I need to get this off my chest and cannot shout at DD as it's not really her fault as she's so little but....

IF I HAVE TO PUT THE FEKIN DUMMY BACK IN YOUR MOUTH JUST ONE MORE TIME I WILL GO INSANE!!!!

And relax.....
Sigh - thanks fr letting me offload that. She loves sucking on the dummy but it falls out every 2 minutes or so - generally, as soon as I stand up praying she'll keep it in this time.

hopefully didn't realise you gave birth same day as me - DD was 6 weeks yesterday. Your description of your 'bits' being sore sounds v similar to how my c-scar feels - sounds like your tear was a similar depth as a c-section .

To all those talking about growth spurts and routines etc, DD will not settle at all from around 8pm to late but then sleeps well after her final feed at 11pm - we've given up trying to put her to bed and keep her downstairs - even then, she will not settle. at those who can put their LOs down to amuse themselves (DD has not noticed TV yet) - DD cries nearly every time we put her on playgym, in bouncy chair etc. It's a good job this is only during the day, so can cope with it as she sleeps well during the wee hours.
We think she's had a growth spurt and is now cutting back on food but has become even more clingy today. I've got her in a sling but just can't seem to get much done...sigh...

Sorry for long post she's asleep on me....

OMG half term is so stressful. Not had chance to get on mn as ds or dh hogs the computer. Dh got laid off last week so at least he has been able to help out with other kids. He starts at a new place next week so i sill have some peace and quiet soon.

Did the clocks going back mess you up? I found it really tiring on sunday and have had a monster appetite since then, so has Robyn so maybe i am compensating. HV weighed her yesterday and she put on 5 ozs in a week my clever girl. She is starting to fill out now and finally filling her first size clothes.
Muwahahahamom Get anew mattress, do something to rip it if you have to. I used the first carrycot mattress between dc1 and dc2 and when it came time to throw it out it looked awful and smelt a bit damp and musty. Also if they smoked then the chemicals could be lingering.

TooMuchTV · 30/10/2008 14:33

Hi Can I join you over here? Ds is 5 weeks old now and I haven't had much time to MN since he was born.

I was MummyToOneForNow on the antenatal thread and met a few of you at Pizza Express in London in August - thought I needed a new name now I have 2 dcs! Can't think of anything clever though and this one seemed appropriate so will do for the moment - should really be TooMuchCBeebies as that is what dd1 is watching most of the time I am feeding ds. Hope everyone is doing ok on the rollercoaster that is looking after a newborn - I had forgotton how completely and utterly exhausting it is...

TooMuchTV · 30/10/2008 14:38

FullMoonHowler - for a cheap stretchy wrap sling look at the Tinokis slings on www.bambinotogo.com - half price at the moment at £19.97 plus 4.50 postage so cheaper than the Moby - I have no idea what the sling or the company are like but couldn't resist the price - I ordered one a few minutes ago so can post again when it arrives and let you know how I get on.

Star1ightExpress · 30/10/2008 14:46

Hi TooMuchTV ! You don't have to ask! We need as many people as possible on this thread so we can know we are not alone with our fussy lo's that will onlt sleep on us, won't go down even awake anywhere else, and pin us to the sofa for most of the evening.

Does anyone else feel 'pestered' and just ganerally sore all over their chests in the evenings, with their clingy, extra-feeding LOs at this time.

I just wanna yell 'GET ORF WILL YA, - LEAVE ME ALONE!'

Star1ightExpress · 30/10/2008 14:50

imoscarsmum Baby Starlight won't go down anywhere either. I found a MAM dummy the other and tried it out of desperation. She wouldn't take it and kept gagging, which I must say I am pleased about because as you say, it might solve one problem, but it brings about a whole set of others, - particularly as I'm still bf.

TooMuchTV · 30/10/2008 14:57

Hi Starlight - I have ds asleep on me at the moment - I am supposed to be trying to have a nap as this is the only full day dd is in nursery (she does two mornings as well) but he wakes up every time I try to put him down and I am trying to stretch the gaps between feeds a little to give my boobs a rest (feeding every 1.5 to 2 hours at the mo) - I seem to live on the armchair with him attached to me...

Star1ightExpress · 30/10/2008 15:01

I'm looking into a mirror - LOL

foxytocin · 30/10/2008 15:03

i have a gypsymama for sale. £25 incl postage.

the saga of dd1's leg continues. just got back from hosp an hr ago. improvement all round but will be bandaged till Sat at least.

MIL was here yesterday. told me dd2 was 'using me as a dummy'. the bfer in me smiled in a Mumsnetty kind of way. when she said it about the 4th time, i said: actually she is getting a lot of milk in those short feeds which means she will go much longer between feeds at night which is what i want. oh that shut her up. [preen] for not saying what i could have said instead.

Star1ightExpress · 30/10/2008 15:13

Yay Foxy! BTW LO slept for a 6 hour period last night . Tis just a shame it wasn't a particularly convenient 6 hour period . Still, it shows we're moving in the right direction!

Debs75 · 30/10/2008 15:22

yay Foxy don't they just piss you off sometimes. All i get from my mum is 'she must have wind' Beginning to think it is her mantra. I do feel a bit silly when she picks her up and Robyn burps tho.

Does anyone have a cat. My 16 month old kitten has become my little helper. Every time Robyn cries she jumps up and meows to let me know and will jump on my knee and kiss her head whilst cuddling her. The look on her face is one of deep concern.
She flew at ny 3 year old niece last week, just for giving Robyn her teddy. Claws out and spitting like mad.

I'm not sure whether I have a guardcat or a psycho

FullMoonHowler · 30/10/2008 15:55

ninja - thanks, I have looked round but it wouldn't be worth getting it as dd is 8wks tomorrow ( already!!). thanks anyway (it's taking me ages to write this with restless dd, feeding every 2hrs today; only way to keep her quiet is playing queen's don't sto me now...).

toomuchtv - thanks, will have a look now, foxy - are they good for longer than the moby? what colour is it?

foxytocin · 30/10/2008 16:09

this one i think it will last longer than a moby. look at write up. i never had a moby.

sassy has the same wrap and rates it too. i have about 10 woven wraps and favour them more. newbies find woven wraps harder esp w tiny babies hence the popularity of stretchies.

FullMoonHowler · 30/10/2008 16:24

foxy - thanks, lovely colours! but think I'll go for a woven one, so I know it'l llast longer...

and for answer to MIL (dreading wht mine will come up with when she gets here in a couple of weeks....) - way I'm feeling atm I could probably be veryrude....

Star1ightExpress · 30/10/2008 16:32

Aaaaaargh! Tis my turn to have problems with bf now. I can't get her bottom lip to curl for love nor money. Partly my fault as believing ideal latch wasn't possible for ages given my looooong nipples and her tiny mouth with mild tongue-tie, but now I'm just sore.

The amount of air she gets with all this bad latching is a pita, and now it looks like I might have oversupply and letdown that is too fast. In any case, it each feed is 2/3 in, 1/3 out - loads of laundry for both of us!

hopefully · 30/10/2008 17:42

Poor you starlight, how tedious. Have you had a BFC round to help at all?

imoscarsmum poor you with the dummy. i suppose I should console myself that at least T refusing point blank to take one means that I won't have that problem. Can't wait till he finds his damn thumb though. I didn't realise we gave birth on the same day either! The consultant at my 6 week appointment yesterday actually likened my injuries to a self administered CS in terms of damage. Horrible, but nice to know I wasn't just being pathetic thinking I was suffering horrendously after the birth.

lollipopmothershalloweenghost · 30/10/2008 19:43

Hopefully - I have a dummy I can put in the post for you to try if you like, it's a Gumdrop, only sold in America but we now have 4. I was given one in hospital, who have them because they're a good shape for stimulating the sucking reflex apparently, they're a completely different shape to most dummies. I'm happy to send one on if you'd like to try it.

Howler - That is bloody awful about your stitches. I have a Close sling like starlight, really love it. I have a Baby Bjorn and a Wilkinet but definitely prefer the Close.

Imo - My DP absolutely hates the whole 'dummy in, dummy out' saga as well! My DD is actually really good with her dummy, but occasionally if she doesn't really want it it'll just result in an 'in-out-in-out' saga which really pushes my DPs buttons!

meglet · 30/10/2008 19:49

starlight I also feel really mauled by the end of the day. . I get really tetchy with DD, and if DP touches me I'm pretty ratty.

We are loving CBeebies too toomuchtv. I got a bit over excited at Boogie Beebies today, I think it will be the start of my post pregnancy exercise regime . I was being a rainbow, DS probably thought his mummy had finally lost the plot.

Yet again my milk has gone down after the end of a tiring week. No leaking or full boobs today. I expect that come Monday morning they will be overflowing again. Dp starts a new shift next week so he will be here in the afternoons or mornings, I think that will help me a lot as I can relax or get organised while he is here.

carrieon · 30/10/2008 20:27

I'm feeling the milk down thing too. Today is the first time i've not soaked through my breastpad/bra/top. In fact the pad is barely damp. Instead of going to bed at lunchtime i went out to starbucks with my friend while DMIL babysat dd (who screamed through her nap ) which was lovely at the time, but the lack of rest has really affected my milk.
Ds is having a very unsettled evening. His naps have been funny all day, not sure what's up with the poor boy.

I was a big wuss today and didn't phone the docs. I woke up in not as much pain as yesterday, so wondered if it wasn't thrush, but something else. Is it possible to get bruised breast tissue?
I think what I might do is phone the GP and ask for an appointment with my favourite doctor coz I know not all docs understand thrush and are happy to prescribe off-licence and I don't want to end up with the male doc who looks about 12. He wasn't happy last time I went in with a shopping list of things I wanted prescriptions for!
