Jenwa, where can I find some of that sleep nyou are talking about

Ekka · 12/11/2008 12:38

smudgey nope, no cake made here yet. The fruit is still soaking in brandy! Good thing I can't stand brandy or I'd probably be tucking in, it smells yummy & I'm starving all the time. I may be going to be the only mummy who weighs more than she did while pg at the rate I'm going (note to self - find some yummy but healthy snacks, do any exist?!?!)

star I fed dd to sleep for at least 5 months I think but she is a dream at bedtimes & naptime now. Once they find a way of comforting themselves (for dd it is sucking her thumb) then its easier to drop the feeding to sleep routine. I'm hoping ds will be as easy

jenwa · 12/11/2008 17:26

ronshar I dont know I am still searching for it too

SmudgeyDoodle · 12/11/2008 17:42

Well we had an interesting night with DD throwing up all over herself a couple of times. I'm sure it's just with being so snotty but the doctor phoned me at 7.45 this morning asking how she was and wanting to see her again. He then told me it was his day off . It turns out that the chest infection he mentioned that it could turn in to, is actually pneumonia!!!
Anyway, DD seems a bit better and has been feeding a bit more today. Last night she went from 11.30 til 5 which would be fab normally but I'm worried about her dehydrating.
Jenwa yes I did have a 3rd degree tear last time. This time just a 2nd degree (lucky you with just a graze) but along the old scar I think so still sore. Guess it's not surprising if you're a bit uncomfortable because the scar will have found it hard to stretch myjobismum did Naomi settle in the end last night? Isn't it awful when you feel like you've tried everything and you just need them to give in and everything will be fine. I made my chocolate brownies this afternoon with DD in the sling. DH has taken DS round to a friend's to play so I have a bit of peace. Could have screamed today though because DH keeps saying to me to sit down but then he doesn't do any of the jobs that need doing. I asked him yesterday to clean the bathroom which he did. But he didn't wash the floor and he didn't do the toilet "because I said the bathroom" - toilet in a separate bit. AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHH

sambrads · 12/11/2008 18:03

Hi hope everyone and their little ones are doing well

all going great here, dd2 is fitting in with the others really well and i'm managing to get to school on time!! whooohooo!

i haven't had chance to read the whole thread yet but i'll try and catch up soon x

Honeymoonmummy · 12/11/2008 19:49

God I need some sleep! I had a delivery of flowers this morning, as I went to sign the cat distracted me and I tripped over the doormat and landed on all fours with my face pretty much in the delivery man's groin. Ho hum...

Yes, thanks Jenwa, I have got one of those books. I'm going to do a scrapbook of all the congrats messages etc as well.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/11/2008 21:14

Stupid question for those of you who swaddle - how do you stop the blanket from riding up and covering their mouth?

Mouse update - dh set the trap with the choc coin again last night, and I got up this morning to find the choc gone but the trap still set .

Going to bed now with any luck - will catch up properly tomorrow. Have survived my first day with dh away though - hurrah!

evening ladies. alex is 4 weeks tomorrow and i have no idea where the time has gone at all. he is really colicky atm but it's farty wind thats trapped, he can burp no probs but struggles to fart nice!
bf going really well and he's gained nearly 30oz since birth and is so long that he's nearly too long for his 0-3month baby grows!

heather1980 · 12/11/2008 22:23

oh and has anyone got any tips for getting the little milk monster out of my bed and into his basket? i absolutely do not want to co-sleep and he wakes up if you even go near the basket

ronshar · 12/11/2008 22:53

Heather. I have always put the children to bed with the muslin blanket I use for feeding. I put one under their heads and one, which is the catch the spray and vomit one, in the basket next to them. Both DDs still sleep with theirs now. DD1 is 9. William has formed an attachment already and holds on to his even when it is covered in yuk.
I think it is the warm and the smell which they like. Gives them something they recognise while alone in their baskets.
I also make sure blankets are tucked in nice and tight around DS. Not swaddled as he doesnt seem to like his arms restricted, but really snug around his body.

CSWS, I shall ask DH as his mum showed him how to do it a couple of weeks ago. It involves folding over one corner of the blanket and tucking in! Other than that I cant help. It is a bugger to undo. DH wraps up DS and then they go for man time on the sofa. Sorry not more help.
Lucky flower man Honeymoon.

Honeymoonmummy · 13/11/2008 04:48

I have exactly the same problem heather although my baby is a little younger, I'm slightly depressed that at 4 weeks I may still have the same problem! I started a thread about it, see below:-

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/behaviour_development/645512-Getting-a-6-day-old-to-settle-in-moses?pg=2

That sounds like a good idea Ronshar, I'll try that. I'd heard that muslin's were a good idea for a security blanket because they're easily replacable.

I told flower man I'd just had a baby so was a little worse for wear. He kept asking me if the baby was OK. I think he may call social services...

Re swaddling, I have the same problem again so I've been swaddling under the armpits?

Honeymoonmummy · 13/11/2008 04:51

Also Heather, would baby massage help with the farty problem? I havent tried it yet but seem to remember something about massaging the stomach in a circle to aid digestion?

star6 · 13/11/2008 08:06

csws I just fold the top bit under so it doesn't cover his mouth. Probably not the right thing to do, but it works for us

DS slept last night... 8pm-12.15... feed... then slept 1.15-5.15!!! Up for a feed and up a bit and was back to sleep from 6.50 until now (little nap). SO excited! Swaddling is the way forward!

heather my ds has difficulty farting sometimes... what we do is this:
Lay him on his back on my lap (on my thighs - his legs will be bent or bent at waist with legs on your tummy if he's long, but that's ok). Then we gently bend his knees and bring them up to his tummy, hold there for 10-15 seconds, then bring them back down and repeat. it REALLY brings up any wind that needs to come out. If he's straining, keep knees bent/legs up there longer and he will let it out.
Someone on here actually taught me that. I can't exactly remember who now... maybe csws or myjob I think.

star6 · 13/11/2008 08:09

Thanks ronshar
I'm hoping the discomfort is down to thrush. In my heart, i really don't want to give up breastfeeding... but in my mind and body, it's a battle every day. I keep telling myself that it can only get better!
I don't "enjoy" it really yet. But knowing that I'm giving him the best nutrition possible is keeping it going. DH and I are very careful about what we put into our bodies, so I know if he's getting milk from me, it's healthy. However, people keep telling me how healthy sma gold is as well... so it IS tempting!!

ronshar · 13/11/2008 09:03

Star you can get organic baby milk. HIPP. They have a website with a parenting club. Did you get a bounty pack from the hospital? It had a load of stuff in it. If you join the HIPP site you get some free samples, I am waiting for mine.

Heather, we went through 4 blankets last night!!! So easy to change, not so easy on the washing machine!

Ekka · 13/11/2008 11:45

Forgot to mention that ds weighed in at 8lb 11oz on tuesday (at 2.5 wks old). So thats a gain of 12oz from his birthweight! Given that dd had only gained 3oz by this age & only hit the 8lb 11oz mark at 8 weeks I'm pretty happy .

Quick question about sleeping habits - ds has an awake period of about 2/2.5hrs in the morning and another 1-2hrs in the evening, but other than that all he does is eats/sleeps. I've forgotten what it was like with dd, but does that sound normal to you? Seems like a lot of sleep (tho most of it is either on the boob or in my arms), but I don't want to complain - I do remember dd crying lots from about 5 - 12 weeks old, so I'm enjoying the peace while it lasts....

Still no xmas cake made here but dh has tomorrow off so maybe I'll manage it then

07mumstheword · 13/11/2008 13:52

Thank you for all your comments and helpful advice. We are still experiementing but I think if I had one of those angel care monitors it would help put my mind at rest.

This is the first chance I've had recently to catch up a little on the thread. I'm so pleased to read that a few of you have babies who do not sleep/feed well (although I'm sorry for you it helps me )

To those of you who suggested cranial ostepathy we had our second session on monday with a third booked for next monday. I think it may help but these things take time so we'll see.

CSWS DD1 was an awfully sicky baby and DD2 is sicky too. She seems to be sick after every feed I do hope the Gacviscon works for your DS.

I would be very interested in any appointments that those of you have mentioned regarding "unhappy" babies (sorry can't recall who it was that has an appt nx wk) as it seems if DD is awake then she is screaming/crying I'd love to have a contented baby!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/11/2008 14:01

Heather/Honeymoon - ds still sleeping on us here at nearly 5 weeks. None of the usual suggestions are working for us.

Ekka - for the first 3 weeks, before all his problems kicked in, ds was really only awake for feeds plus a few mins before/after, so sounds fine at this stage.

Fuck - just got phone call from dh to say that his contract is ending in December (been there since 2000), so we'll go from well off to not overnight. Just what we need having extended our mortgage to pay for building works, and with a huge tax bill to pay at the end of Jan.

jenwa · 13/11/2008 14:12

honeymoonmummy sorry bit that was funny about you landing on all fours in delivery mans groin, although not at all funny for you!

CSWS oh no thats awful news, we are still awaiting what is happening with DH's job, it is NOT what you need with a new baby and xmas!

ekka well done on weight, he is obviously doing very well. DD going ot be weighed tomorrow. I think baby's can sleep feed etc and have an awake time or afew, maybe also falling asleep on you is more comfort, DD is doing htat during feeds or after and I am trying to put her down so she falls asleep naturally but sometimes you do anything for them to sleep

DD does not seem to poo much, I think we had the same with DD1 and I am not a regular so maybe this is normal? She went on monday but nothing since and has really bad stinky wind!!! Mum suggested giveing her some demorara (cant spell it, but mean brown sugar) sugar in her feeds as this is what people used to do apparantly, she told me to do it with DD1 but I never! I am seeing HV tomorrow so will mention to her.

loulou33 · 13/11/2008 14:20

csws - sorry things have been so crap for you bith with Duncan and the money situation. Make sure your gp refers to a paediatrician cos if Duncan has really acid refulx, he needs an antacid asap ebfore the acid does too much damage to his oesophagus. How are you managin to get the gaviscon into him? I can't get Joe to take it at all. Got to go dh struggling with Joe who has been screaming all morning. He is so miserable all day, i am exhausted wiht juggling him etc and can't find any way to make him comfortable - go to go....

4andnotout · 13/11/2008 14:21

Hi all
Can i have some feedback from other bf'ers who have had thrush, dd4 has oral thrush and i have all the symptoms too, pink nips pain in breast etc but the dr only wants to treat dd4 and not me but surely i will reinfect her?
Other than the thrush everything is going well, Tilly-Grace sleeps in a carrycot downstairs during the day and then sleeps in her crib after her last feed at around 10ish. She would sleep upstairs but i dont fancy trekking up and down the stairs all night if she is in a hungry mood She feeds twice during the night but goes straight back to sleep when she is in her crib so i really cant complain.
Dp is still at home on sick leave until monday, it will come as a shock when he isn't here to help as he has been home for 2 months
Better dash, dd4 needs feeding again!
