Thought I'd start the new thread using paro's suggestion

Shit, shit, shit. Just read Sponge's post. Will check mine immediately.
Oh, God, thank God you posted, Sponge. I mean, I'm praying mine is working etc, but I'd rather know if not. IYKWIM.

hedgehog1979 · 17/09/2008 21:47

thanks for all your thoughts. Have just heard that they won't take his body due to its condition, so there will now be a funeral although my dad and aunt are trying to arrange a date

Glad I don't have a mat now having seen sbbp post, but am going to look on ebay for a cheap monitor as friends run a pub and we are going to go for halloween and leave Isaac asleep in the flat upstairs while we get pissed enjoy ourselves

Sorry have forgotten everything else as phone keeps going with funeral updates (that sounds wrong)

debinaustria · 17/09/2008 22:22

Thanks all - he did settle after I went down, picked him up and he did a big burp!!

Sponge - how scary for you, hope you get a replacement sorted tomorrow

My monitor is one which I bought 2nd hand for ds1 - 9 years ago!!So, nothing like sensor mats to worry about. If he cries I hear him and I just try not to worry about anything else.

I have a question about buggies. We have a lovely 3 wheeler here and Ethan is still using the carrycot bit of it. Anyway it is way too heavy to take on the plane so the alternatives are
a. use a front carrier at the airport and on the train then borrow a pushchair for the week from a friend.
b. I have an umbrella fold buggy here, which was given to me but it's an old one and I don't know if it's one which is suitable from 3 months.

Those of you using buggies - how far back to yours recline?

I will post a photo on my profile so that you can see him in it and give me your opinion - I've put the head hugger bit in from the car seat, to give a bit more support. -what do you think - he still seems too small for it imo, but it would be easier in a way???

help

spongebrainbigpants · 17/09/2008 22:23

poppy, we're having the same problems with Alex re: unsettled days and evenings. He's in a terrible mood at the mo - however still sleeping through (12hrs) every night so don't know what to think .

Essie, sorry to worry you - hope yours is ok. I just feel pissed off I ever bought one tbh. Sybil, seriously impressed that you keep LOs with you til 9 mths - either you're a v good sleeper or able to survive on few hrs sleep!

HH, are you a London girl? I have a spare monitor that someone gave me if you want it? I'll bring it when I come to a London meet - hopefully not too long. Let me know.

Upsidedowncake · 18/09/2008 08:22

Debs, I had a look on your profile and imo, that buggy reclines quite a lot, and if it were me, I would put Dorothy in it. I sometimes put her in the front bit of the P&T's as she seems to be keen to see the world. Back carriers can be killers for that long a time. Ethan looks gorgeous BTW. Oh and our dishwasher?? ... a power problem: turns out the vibration from the dishwasher had ruined the socket, so we simply plugged it into another outlet! We had an expensive dishwasher repairman trip too!

Sponge, sorry about your sensor mat. That's terrible.

HH, glad that you get to have the funeral.

Amber, very impressed with your sleep training. You must be really chuffed!

Can't remember if I posted before that Dorothy did her first laugh a couple of days ago. Was doing laundry and I waved some washing at her - DH's boxer shorts - and she giggled!

Off to Normandy on holiday tomorrow morning. May be on here today again or not, but if not, have a lovely week everyone.

xxUDC

katyjo · 18/09/2008 08:30

Glad you got the dishwasher sorted UDC I couldn't manage to wash dishes at the mo. Have a lovely holiday!

debinaustria · 18/09/2008 09:05

Thanks UDcake - have a lovely holiday

ThePenguinProject · 18/09/2008 09:07

Ryder turned himself over from his front to his back and now thinks it's a new game and keeps doing it. Experienced Mums, that's good isn't it?

Have a great hol UDC. PP dreams of a dishwasher. as new house hasn't got one. It's a basic human right dammit....

Off to have those jabs now, Ryder that is, not me!

debinaustria · 18/09/2008 09:25

Good luck with Ryder's jabs PP. That's great -him rolling over, Ethan hasn't yet and I can't say I'm pushing him into it - I like this stage when you know they are where you left them!!
A dishwasher is essential imo, and now that ours is miraculously fixed my life is better already!

spongebrainbigpants · 18/09/2008 09:27

Spoke to Tommee Tippee this morning - weren't remotely interested. "Oh yes, we sometimes get interference, they don't work in all areas, never heard of that problem before". That was it .

Been up since 3.30am while my little boy slept soundly next door. I'm exhausted and feel really low - will I ever have a good night's sleep now?

Amberc · 18/09/2008 09:45

sponge my mat is nannymonitor.co.uk - it's excellent - no false alarms since we had it. Ours doesn't have different sensitivities. Can't believe the helpline people - what kind of bollox is that?

UDC - isn't it gorgeous when you hear their first laugh? I thought I was the only one to be able to make Luke laugh but I heard him laughing this morning with the night nanny .

Luke woke up at 4.30 this morning for a feed so the 6.15 was definitely a one off but at least I know he CAN do it! He then went back to sleep until 6.45 though. Just put him down for nap and he's gone to sleep with no crying. Then he woke up up 30 mins later and after one settle from me he's gone back to sleep again - hurrah! Saying that - I can hear him now - just to spite me goddammit!!

Hope everyone had good nights with their LOs.

Amberc · 18/09/2008 09:54

Now I need some advice on behalf of my night nanny. She spends loads of time in Tenerife as she knows people there and wants to set up a business helping families with their kids on holiday. If you could afford this kind of help, what would you use it for? Would you want the nanny on the plane to take care of kids? Would it be all day and all night on call living in? Would it be daytimes, evenings whilst you went for dinner etc or through the night. Maybe starting really early so you could have a lie in. Also, what would you be willing to pay if you could afford this (assume most of us won't be able to afford a holiday nanny!). I'd be really grateful for any suggestions on behalf of Lisa!

poppy34 · 18/09/2008 10:18

amberc - I think we'd use the nightnanny for nights and prob mornings (ie so can have meal out and lie in).. prob ok on plane (dh reckons he has patented some method on the older kids involving phenergan) - I wouldnt want her all the time -its more like an extra pair of hands

So glad that luke getting better - with teh settling himself -did you just let him cry it out when he was obviously tired having been up for a while? I am going to do something as we're regressing here..and dh got 2 forthcoming work trips so I'll have no relief help if I don't get this sussed. she is still sleeping through ok and fairly regular with her naps but is much worse about needing to be walked/held to sleep - what can I do to train her out of this (I know amber took the hard core approach )?

udc have a lovely holiday

deb I am using two buggies - the maclaren xt that goes back all the way and a maclaren qust that doesnt -it goes back prob to about the same incline as a rocker but I've put a little head support in and I have to say edie loves it - she can look around. the lady in our shop said from 3 months its ok to put them in a buggy (but head support is good) -just don't leave em in it for same reasons you're not meant to in a car seat -hope that helps .

sponge/hh I've got old school sound monitors but not breathing ones -tomy or whatever and tehy are quite good.

for those interested very godo thread with more info on the SIDS stats on sleep thread.

OP posts:
poppy34 · 18/09/2008 10:20

deb also checked out your super cute photos (love the swimming one) and that buggy looks v/similar to the quest one I have and use.

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 18/09/2008 10:24

Amber, dh has just looked at nannymonitor and can't see whether it has a remote monitor too for keeping with you in the lounge or bedroom - I'm sure it must do but he wanted me to check with you. Thanks.

debinaustria · 18/09/2008 10:28

thanks poppy, now to taxis - are they supposed to have car seats for children?

Essie3 · 18/09/2008 10:58

Sponge I checked mine and it's ok. Will ask DH about the response from the helpline though.
I don't really want to type this but if there was an incident, then TT would be in big trouble surely? Isn't H&S law all about being prepared for the worst, and big trouble if you haven't thought of the worst situation and it happens?

Sorry, Iestyn fussing big time (funny, that; he woke at 5, 6, and 7 this am so I'm knackered and can't deal with it!).

Prams - well, Iestyn is my first so not really in a position to answer but I think UDC just did.

Got to go!

poppy34 · 18/09/2008 14:51

deb sorry may have missed this -where are yiou going? I think not obliged to carry car seats (if you're going in a black cab in london you can strap the pushchair in) but you can pre order them - is this an option?

OP posts:
debinaustria · 18/09/2008 15:14

Poppy - we're going to Leyburn, N Yorkshire for a week to film the TV programme, so fly to Stansted, train to Northallerton then taxi to Leyburn.

poppy34 · 18/09/2008 16:05

I'd book one from northallerton (you could google -there is bound to be a station cabs at that station).

OP posts:
poppy34 · 18/09/2008 16:06

amber you are a miracle worker...after very little nap today finally gave in and let her cry - 4 minutes and she cracked and is now asleep bless her

I did feel a mean mummy thoguh (and for the record amber more helpful than health visitor on this point)

OP posts:
Amberc · 18/09/2008 17:22

Poppy - hurrah - desperate times and all that. Luke still cries and you are lucky - the first time he cried for an hour.

Sponge - no it does not have a remote thingy but you would a. hear the alarm as it can wake people up in the next street it's so loud and b. you probably have a regular sound monitor so you would hear it via that. My DP has recommended it to everyone and he is gadget mad so must be good (and for him to talk about anything baby related is a miracle!).

goingfor3 · 18/09/2008 18:19

Hello all,

Reading the posts about the sensor mats make me feel guilty that we haven't even got the monitors plugged in! He does sleep in the pram downstairs during the day and at night he is in the cot which is still next to our bed. He only really has two hours of being upstairs alone, maybe I will plug in those monitors tonight.

DS has also learnt to roll onto his front. It does worry me slightly as when dd2 was his age she rolled on to her front during the night, her face was flat on her matress and she couldn't move - probably because she was tired - luckily I woke and heard her snuffling so rolled her back but it really gave me a fright.

goingfor3 · 18/09/2008 18:20

Still no sleeping through the night for us but he did have a 'good night' a couple of nights ago and as long as he does that every few nights I can function!

ThePenguinProject · 18/09/2008 18:46

Monitor not plugged here either, but R's still in our room and we're a ground floor flat so he's never too far away.

Wow Going43 - R's only managed to roll from his front onto his back today, not the other way round. And he won't 'perform' this new trick this afternoon.....
