Oh dear, hope you get better soon. My dd started back at pre-school today and did her first all day session. It was very odd. I was pacing for most of the day, I just wanted her back here with me! I guess it will take a while to get used to her not being around so much. What sessions is your dd doing?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 20:54

Hi Holly!

LOL at your DP suddenly becoming busy. Sounds about right IME. (Obviously, general experience, not of your DP!) hy the garden leave so early? (Funny, I only heard that term for the 1st time about 10 days ago, and you're the third person I've heard use it since) And what's the new job?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 20:56

Hello FFF

FrazzledFairyFay · 08/09/2008 20:56

She's going up from 2 mornings (9;15-12;15) to 4 mornings a week. They don't do afternoons. She really enjoys it as she goes with 3 of her friends, who she's known since birth.

FrazzledFairyFay · 08/09/2008 20:57

Hi Jammy. When does your DH finish work? Anything in the pipeline?

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 08/09/2008 20:57

Hi Jammy!

He is doing the same job for a different company, but in the same industry. They had to put him on garden leave so he didn't try and poach all his customers ! He still has the big swanky company car and fuel card too, which is a huge plus!!

Is it wrong to eat houmous straight from the pot with my finger?

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 08/09/2008 21:00

Has your dh got a new job too jammy?

My dd is doing 2 full days and one afternoon. We are quite lucky that the pre-school she goes to does afternoons too, most of them don't. She is quite a shy little thing and I think it'll help her adjust when she goes to school if she has already done some full days.

I did her primary school application today! I am very ! My little baby is a big girl!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:11

DH is taking voluntary redundancy from his work. He now has to look for work, but has a few months before the money stops coming in (He has paid employment until Oct 31st, then he gets 1 month garden leave plus his redundancy money after that) so fingers crossed he will find something. He spent some time at the weekend getting his CV together and I think he is going to send it out to some places this week.

FrazzledFairyFay · 08/09/2008 21:11

I'm sure it will help with school, Holly. My DD will be 3 in a couple of weeks. I can't believe that she's growing up so quickly. She won't go to school until she's nearly 5 though, as she's got a September birthday, so I have another couple of years with her . I would like her to go to the school pre-school for her last year.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:12

I told him if he hasn't got something lined up by the end of October when he finishes, it'll be the perfect time of year to get seasonal work at the post office, or as Santa at the local garden centre

Ohforfoxsake · 08/09/2008 21:13

Gawd bless you Norty! Thanks m'dear, what a love you are. I am fine thanks. Took my cheque book to the bank today and got some money. Tho if your DH can shed any light on what to do with my laptop it would be great. Usually I can figure these things out, but this has me stumped completely.

Bloody hell! Primary School application Isn't it funny when they're not here? I miss hanging out with DD1, she's great company.

Boys are different to girls, but its great to have both, they can be SO different. I think its really fascinating what's nature and what's nurture, and you really get to see it when you have one (or more) of each.

By the way, I decided it was time (and appropriate) to change my name.

FrazzledFairyFay · 08/09/2008 21:16

I like the new name Foxy. I keep toying with changing mine, but can't think of anything and, sadly, it's still appropriate. On which note, I'm off for an early night. Good night everyone.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 08/09/2008 21:16

That's good jammy, at least he has a lot of time to get something else. Was he not happy with the job or did they just offer him a good redundancy package (sorry for being nosy )!

I have a Wii Fit now and it is great! I can really feel the effects and I've only been doing it for 2 days! I heart hula hooping, it is super fun and I'm really good at it!

For all those with a Wii Morrisons are doing all their top 30 games for £15. We went to the one in Southampton today, but they had all sold out. Bloody annoying because it is right on the other side of the city. Is it just me or does anyone else find Morrisons a little odd?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:16

I get confused by all this nursery/pre-school/reception/year X stuff.

Is this right?

The term after 3rd birthday they start at nursery.
Then they go to pre-school. Or is pre-school another name for nursery?
Then reception (starting the September before their 5th birthday, so FFF's DD will be nearly 5, but a June born baby will only be 3 months past 4th birthday?)
Then Year 1.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 08/09/2008 21:18

Oooo good name foxy! Glad you got the money thing sorted, but an arse all the same! It was the first day of applications today, I just wanted to get in early. The school I want her to go to can be quite difficult to get into, so I thought it would be better to get in quickly.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:19

A bit of both Holly. He'd been thinking about maybe going anyway, so when they said they would be making redundancies he asked and it was a good offer, so he thought he might as well go now and take the extra money.

Ohforfoxsake · 08/09/2008 21:19

Hello Jammy, Fairy How are you both?

Who else is here? Any lurkers?

Congrats Tallulah if you are around. I was wondering where you were.

Norty, can't believe you are already half way! I didn't find out with DS1, and they didnt' tell me when he was born either (too busy getting him going I think) so without the drama of "Its a boy!" I decided to find out, and I'm glad I did. I think its nice for the older ones to know.

DD2 only just showing a vague interest in standing up. She can, however, sing 'ah-ah-ah-yeah' at the right point after 'C'mon Barbie, lets go party' in the song 'I'm a Barbie Girl'. Shall I start a thread in Gifted and Talented?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:20

I also like the name change Foxy

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 08/09/2008 21:21

Yes jammy, that's sort of right. My dd didn't go to nursery, only pre-school. Pre-schools are usually run by the local authority and are attached to a school. They will take children from 2 years 9 months, but you have to pay (£6-7 a session). From the term after their 3rd birthday they are funded for 5 sessions a week, so it is free. School starts the sept after their 4th birthday.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:24

We didn't find out about DD's gender pre-natally, and we asked the delivering MW to let us see, rather than telling us. So she held DD up in front of me, but the cord was hanging down over her genitals and I got all confused because I couldn't work out why I couldn't tell what we had. I remember lying there thinking "Am I really so stupid I can't tell if this is a boy or a girl?" and I think I eventually (well after about 5 seconds probably but felt like an age) meekly asked "is it a girl?"

Ohforfoxsake · 08/09/2008 21:25

I love that hula-hooping too. I have a waist!

Jammy, that sounds very complicated, and makes my head hurt but I think its right. Some schools also have a January intake too.
But yes, you are right. And yes, Nursery and pre-school are the same thing.

Holly, Morrisons are from Ooop North, I think that is why.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:27

OK, thanks. But am I right in thinking that recpetion is the 1st year of "proper" school, followed by year 1? That really confuses me, why not just call the 1st year year 1 and so on from there, or if you have to have the 2nd year as year 1 for some reason (eg to be in line with the rest of the world) then call reception year nought?

Ohforfoxsake · 08/09/2008 21:27

aww Jammy!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 08/09/2008 21:28

It makes my head hurt too!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 08/09/2008 21:28

I'm hoping it has that effect on me too foxy! Actual waist here I come !! Yes, I think it might be the Northern thing with Morrisons! It is just weird! Maybe it is because it is not the same as Tesco or Sainsburys, I mean they put their dairy over by the frozen stuff...odd squad! It took me fucking ages to find the milk!
