Mocat DS1 and DS2 both had to be checked for dislocated hips at 6 weeks and they used ultrasound scans because the bones aren't properly formed so they can't xray. Hope this helps. Don't know what age they will xray hips from, can't remember with DD.

Mumofkandj thanks for advice re: slings, will have a look at those websites

Too busy tonight as DH is away for the night, DS2 is deciding that he doesn't want to go to sleep so is lying here chatting away( The cheeky monkey)At least other two are in bed asleep.

mumofkandj · 24/09/2008 21:41

Mocat- Just looked up about hips, and they ossify around 6 months which is when ultrasound becomes rubbish and x-rays are diagnostic (in my fabulous terminology!). Each baby is individual (as we know!) so the hip may ossify earlier, so probably by the time you get an appointment it will be an x-ray.

Slings advice- the other site I forgot to mention was www.thebabywearer.com.
goodnight, its a late night for me!

Mocat · 25/09/2008 09:35

Thanks Mitchell and mumofkandj. Now I'm hoping that the appointment comes through really quickly - that is, before DS is six months. As he was 4 weeks prem then maybe his bones haven't ossified yet and they'll scan?! Thanks for looking it up Mitchell, much appreciated.

Sweetbean So, does that mean you are? Congratulations!!

thefortbuilder · 25/09/2008 09:49

sweetbean????? wow!!!!

me normally sedate.....you haven't had the pleasure or a few "sedate" drinks out with me any of you....sedate isn't really the word then!

not much to say here except all ok generally

baiyu - any health food shop should sell brewers yeast tablets.

Things have gone poopoo here, ds1 has a back molar coming through and is becomming UNBEARABLE!! Poor thing is writhing in pain and shouting no to everything, even going to the beach with his friends! Day of cbeebies then!

Ds2 is being quite chilled, they do seem to take it in turns to be hardwork!

Ds2 has a hospital app next week as i have noticed that his willy hole isnt on the end as is on top of his willy and when he wees it doesnt go up and everywhere, just hangs there. Docs thought it was just a tight foreskin that would get better over time but i had to point out that the hole wasnt in the right place, after they had seen him twice! anyway he has to see the specialist next week, they have made a very quick app which has made me worry more, then i did an internet search and after some very dodgy stuff i found what i think it is and it sounds very rare and scarey, i cant wait for the app next week to speak to someone who knows what they are talking abput.

Oh, ds1 has fallen asleep on the sofa, best put him to bed

TheDuchessOfNork · 25/09/2008 11:10

hello all. Life here busy but manageable. DS2 is 17 weeks and has just cut his first tooth. I've no idea what he weighs as I haven't been near the HV in weeks!

sweetbean I'm certainly not pregnant and don't intend to be! (Though my eldest 3 are currently aged 4, 5 & 6 which is some indication of my usual behaviour ). Congratulations to you if you are...??

asics you running again? I keep losing the Runners thread, I did 5k last weekend and nearly died!!!!

Mocat · 25/09/2008 12:42

magicfairy Hopefully, the specialists will be able to put your mind at rest. Good on you for pursuing the matter.

Mocat · 25/09/2008 12:43

Ah, flick, obviously touched a nerve there.

notsoseriousanymore · 25/09/2008 13:35

Hi!

Sweetbean!!! Congratulations!!! Was that planned??? I'd adore another LO, but DH isn't keen and, being realistic, I would probably be really pushed being here on my own!!

Flick - You still OK for tomorrow?

MF - I also hope that you get the all clear for your LO...

Duchess - How has teething been? DS is going through the mill at the mo, but nothing but hard gums here!!!

better go!

We are off swimming this afternoon! DS LOVES it!

sweetbean · 25/09/2008 14:40

OH DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to give that impression just something that pinacolada82 wrote on facebook made me think that one of you might be!

Sorry !! Im never having anymore babies EVER !!

Dose anyone else feel like that or do i stand alone??? xxx

sweetbean · 25/09/2008 14:44

last question dose not aplly to duchess!! xxxxxxx

notsoseriousanymore · 25/09/2008 15:09

sweetbean - can i be your FB friend too?

Pina is already a friend of mine!!

mumofkandj · 25/09/2008 21:31

magicfairy- my pals little boy had that, or something like (hypospadias or something? can't remember AND can't spell!).It was diagnosied as a new baby, and When he was older (possibly 5 yrs old? I wasn't into kids then so didn't spot how old he was)he went to local specialist centre for his op and was fine. I think he also had a scan on his urinary system, checking kidneys and bladder just to make sure that was the only 'problem' (I think it can become more of a problem when older rather than now) and my pal was off work with him for about a week- mostly at home trying to stop him bouncing around too much!
Hope for you its just a nice efficient system so you can see the specialist and be reassured. Its a bugger, you wait ages for appointments and worry they've missed something, and if you get a quick appointment you worry they've found something- just can't win but I really hope is all ok for you guys.

Baiyu- is the feeding/expressing going ok? If your LO has had a growth spurt they may have nicked what you normally express and it could just take a few days weeks of trying to express to gradually build it back up. I express once a day for SCBU and when J had a spurt I couldn't get anything for a few days and it took around a week to get my daily bottle for SCBU back.

sweetbean- wow at teeth so young! Glad your little one is growing lots

I've had to spend an extra hour getting miss J off to sleep tonight as she has discovered crawling! in bed! She's been rolling, and found the cat biscuits yesterday but tonight she figured out moving herself around her cot, and i think it was far too exciting a discovery for bedtime. Everytime she was nodding off she'd suddenly push up with her arms and then kick off with her legs and look all surprised that she moved. And cute, but I need my evenings! A friend told me development milestones usually means a few nights of worse sleep than usual.... the joys

mumofkandj · 25/09/2008 21:34

magicfairy - sympathy with the molars... I took K to the dentists a couple of months ago and found out she only had 1.5 molars to go. We thought she was just grumpy because of being 2, new baby but other things going on... (bad parent emoticon) Oh and we both brush her teeth and neither of us noticed we were brushing more!

sweetbean · 26/09/2008 08:09

NNS yes no worries ask Pina to recommend you as a friend to me !! xxxxx

Busy busy bust here today and have a realy nice weekend planned as its my granny's 80th which means a massive family get together and its been about 9 months since a saw my sister and mum and dad in the same place at the same time so it will be FAB

hope everyone's doing well xxxxxxxx

TheDuchessOfNork · 26/09/2008 09:48

notso - teething was OKish. He's had a couple of bouts of inconsolable crying in the past week, has had his fist in his mouth alot (which makes him even more sick than usual) but on the plus side, he didn't wake at night. By the time I noticed the tooth poking through it was a little late for Calgel but I've stocked up anyway.

My middle 2 DCs both had every symptom going - red cheeks, dribble, sloppy nappies, etc but DD1 didn't have any teething problems at all, not even with the dreaded molars (sympathies to those going through that at the moment). DD1 is now at the wobbly tooth stage with MAHOOSIVE tombstones appearing.

Hi

Welcome back NSSA, nice to see you again. Regarding when they start crawling I used to have a travel cot in the living room with some toys in and put dd in there if i needed to leave her for couple of mins, it worked well for a few months til she was walking!

magicfairy - hope the hospital appointment goes ok, must be a bit worrying for you thinking that somethings not right.

Well I have gone from feeling extremely broody to suddenly not at all, I think it must have been post pregnancy hormones making me feel like that, I think I might still like another but feel happy with what I've got for the moment. (dh sighs with relief!)

Ended up taking ds to A&E last weekend, he was doing very distressed streaming, not at all like him, came out in bit of a rash etc. So spent 3 hours altogether only to be told they thought he was fine and probably "having a bad day". He has been fine since then so maybe it was stomach ache or something.

He has rolled over a couple of times front to back but still generally stays roughly where I put him.

pina - hope the aquababies went better, is it the the one at the deaf school - we used to take dd to that one and thought it was good.

magicfairy · 26/09/2008 12:39

how many of you have started your little ones on solids?

ds2 is 20 weeks and has started feeding a lot more than usual, he also gets really grouchy at meal times. he used to sit in his bouncy chair when we all had tea and watch us, now he cries in his chair and when he sits on our laps he tries to grab our food, he managed to get a handful of dh's spaghetti the other day!

i have been waiting a while to see if its a growth spurt but he still seems ravenous.

ds1 started at 21 weeks and took to it like a duck to water. i agree with baiyu and think its important to follow your babies cues.

we will do baby led weaning as worked really well with ds1 and i'm lazy, cant be doing with pureeing, ice cube trays and the like.

I will see how things go over the weekend, but maybe next week ds2 will have some yumyums to gnaw on!

magicfairy · 26/09/2008 12:40

oh and thanks for the support for hospital

Pina - I saw your car in London today!!! It had the registration P1NA C (and you'll be glad to know it was a very lovely dark blue 997 Porsche!!!!) and thanks for the facebook link!!

Yes, DS actually swam yesterday (the instructor did a submersion and then left go - and he swam kicked his legs and waved his arms around for about 5 seconds before the instructor got him again and brought him up!!) I was SOOO impressed!! He loved it.. I've signed him up for next term already

MF - what's the difference between BLW? DS is not ready for solids yet, but I have stocked up on a few things for when he is!!

Hope everyone else is OK!!
