congratulations knickers!!! the photos on facebook are sooo cute! hope you're getting some rest and everyone is helping out.

james - that's fab news about the house. it will make such a difference for you i'm sure. i used to spend winters dreading any rain because the house was so damp and having to wrap myself constantly in blankets because the boiler never worked properly. although stressful at the time, once we had moved it was fantastic. make sure you don't do all the work though!

conker - did you get tickets??? my sister tried all day to get us some but couldn't get through. then when they added extra dates later on her husband tried and managed to get us some for july 1st at wembley. i am ridiculously excited!!! have never been to a concert before so not really sure how i'll be with all the crowds but sure that once we start singing along it will be fantastic!

it's been a bit of a starnge few days for us. went up to yorkshire on wednesday as it was poppa's funeral thursday. the service was nice and dd babbled all the way through which provided light relief! we had to leave the crem bit though ebcause shed woken up grumpy from the car journey. we went in at the end though to say goodbye. it was lovely catching up with family friends especially as some hadn't seen dd at all or at for a very long time and i think it was nice for everyone to have her as a distraction. although we'd told her that for once the day wasn't all about her i don't think it made any difference!

we got home yesterday tea time and were thinking of going to firewroks but it was too wet really so we gave it a miss. went shopping today and bought some xmas decorations. this will be the first year we're going to have a tree and i really wnated to get a wreath for the front door so that's all done. have so far bought three presents and we've got dd's sorted already so not doing too bad.

hope everyone's had good weekend

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 02/11/2008 23:25

great news james - house sounds ideal. And its great you can be in for Christmas.

congrats knickers. look forward to hearing more about him when you are up to it.

Leifmum and Gill - yes we got tickets. Looked like it was sold out but I kept pressing the buttons anyway and one time it just came up with the payment bit so got 4 seated tickets for the 20th June in glasgow. DH wanted standing but they were sold out and the more I think about it, he's 6ft 2 so can see plenty standing -my brother, sil and I are all 5ft 2 - 4 so we will see much more in the stands. Very excited. My sister has offered to babysit all the kids but by then sil and I will each have had another so including her own she will have 6 to look after - maybe not.

leifmum - glad the funeral went well - babies being there always help i think.

Gill - have you booked your eye test? I'm borrowing lizziemum's mother voice to ask.

leifmum · 03/11/2008 12:27

well done conker on getting tickets. strange to think you'll have another babe by then!

james - can't see your profile at momnet. my facebook name is joanna clare cook. profile picture is dd so you should be able to recognise me!

in the office at work today but my boss isn't in and hasn't done what i needed him to do for me to get on with what i need to do. very frustrating. hence sneaky post on mumsnet!

off to get lunch now. trinidadian beef curry is on menu which sounds yummy!

helibee · 03/11/2008 14:32

hiya, the wedding was good but a 5 and a half hour journey took 10 and a half!!!!!!! C was as good as gold and slept but that threw his routine for the rest of the weekend!! Anyway wfinally back after a 9 hour journey so i'm exhausted but it's my birthday on wed so i'm excited about that

will catch up on the posts in a min-i have a very tired and clingy monkey here

helibee · 03/11/2008 15:36

congratulations knickers-so exciting and i'm sooo broody

meandmyjoe-yes agree with the others that you def need to feel ready for another, but glad Joseph is a happy wee bundle for you now.

conker-thats exciting about the concert and very annoying about the buses!

James-thats great about the house but i can understand the dread at all the cleaning/packing etc

lizzie-hows the pregnancy?

my2-did you get much snow?

gill-hope your headaches improve-the docs gave me some dihydrocodeine and sumatriptan last week for mine

hersetta-the holiday villa looks amazing-if they did something like that in the states i'd snap it up-we're hoping to go next year.

helibee · 03/11/2008 15:42

leifmum-glad the funeral went ok-it's nice that dd was a distraction for everyone-at my mums funeral and thanksgiving service we had lots of wee ones around and it would have made her so happy so that made us smile too , ps i added you on facebook (Helen Petticrew) anyone can add me if you want x

GillL · 03/11/2008 16:40

It's not been a good day. I woke up feeling sick and felt too ill to go to work so I've been at home. Dh phoned at lunchtime to tell me that our 6 week old nephew (the one who was 6 weeks premature) has been rushed to hospital with pneumonia. And about half an hour ago my neighbour knocked to say that she found a dead cat that looked like one of ours. It was difficult to tell because it was quite dark and raining and she was quite stiff but I'm 99% certain it's our eldest cat Tiggy Not sure how dd is going to react. Ds is going to miss her. He was always cuddling and stroking her.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 03/11/2008 17:47

Poor you, Gill. I hope your little nephew is ok, how worrying. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for him. Sorry to hear about your cat too, god it never rains but it pours, does it?

Do you think you could get away with telling your dd that tiggy has decided to go and live with a little old lady on the other side of town? You may not want to say that, but just a suggestion because we had a couple of cats who decided they preferred living with old ladies when I was growing up.

I've felt like poo today too, and dp has run out of petrol so is sitting on the hard shoulder somewhere waiting for the RAC. I need to go find something to cook for tea but we haven't got much in. Oh how I love scrabbling around at the back of the freezer for pot luck dinners. Not. Back later x

OP posts:
meandmyjoe · 03/11/2008 21:32

about your cat gill. It must be awful for you, so sorry about your nephew too. Remember that babies are bloody tough little things, I really hope he'll be OK and out of hospital soon.

James, hope your feeling better too. You and dh have had a crap day by the sounds of it. What did you end up cooking??! I love pot luck dinners made up of all sorts of rubbish in the back of the cupboard or freezer, so does dh but we are a bit odd!

Knickers, really can't wait to hear all about you new little bundle! So happy for you!

Joe has been a bit miserable today, not sure if it's his teeth or whether he was just having a general moan. He seems to get very frustrated at his lack of communicating and he seems to be saying something to us, when we don't understand or just nod and talk back to him, he just gets louder and louder and then starts screeching as if he's really cross, then walks off and whinges. I feel really sorry for him as we are clearly not responding in the way he wants us to! I tend to just distract him but I have no clue what the heck he's saying. I gave him some Ashton and Parsons Powder incase it was his teeth making him short tempered, figured it wouldn't do any harm but it didn't make any difference. Poor little chap, really hates being a baby!

He now says 'dink' when he wants a drink and when we respond with 'oh you want a drink Joe?' he smiles and says 'yeah yeah yeah yeah'

About all he does say really but I am proud! Rest of the time he just babbles and chunters away.

Anyway, hoping we all have a better day tomorrow.

GillL · 04/11/2008 11:25

I'm still feeling a bit sad about Tiggy. She was our first cat and she was only 5. We got another cat a week after we got her but he got run over when he was still a kitten. We're not going to get any more. Our other cat Molly has been very affectionate since it happend and she is never like that so I think she is missing her too.

Thanks James and meandmyjoe. I told dd what happened and I said that she has gone to be with Grandad Frank (she knows he died). She looked a bit shocked so I asked her if she wanted a cuddle and she said yes. Quickly I then said that we would have to be extra nice to Molly and give her lots of cuddles because she would be missing her sister. I thought it might help her to focus on something else. Now I've just got to find somewhere to take Tiggy to be buried. My neighbour said the PDSA might be able to help and they have a place not too far away.

Hope you're feeling better today James. Did you come up with something inventive for dinner?

Hope Joe is happier today. Alex hasn't been himself and woke up after only being asleep for an hour and a half last night. He didn't eat that much yesterday, which is not like him, so I think he might be teething. Have you thought about baby signing? It takes a lot of effort but it could be worth it if Joe is frustrated about not being able to communicate. It doesn't affect their speech development.

Hersetta · 04/11/2008 11:44

Gill, sorry to hear about your nephew and your cat - poor Tiggy.

James, great news about the new house - loads more room for James to trash, if he's anything like Caitlin. Our living room permenantly looks like a hurricane has blown through.

Our news this week is that Caitlin has been booked for her first modelling job. We didn't even need to go to a casting - they booked her straight away from her photos. Photo shoot is for Tele Tubbies and Tomy toys, which is weird as I bought Caitlin a lulaby tele tubbie by Tomy as part of her Xmas present on Saturday. if I'd known perhaps we could have got a free one!

Hersetta · 04/11/2008 12:10

I've uploaded some new pics of Cait onto my profile as she looks so different as she had her first haircut last week.

GillL · 04/11/2008 15:51

Thanks Hersetta. Glad it's not just us with an untidy living room. Love the new pictures and well done on the casting. They are going to love her! Let us know how it goes.

helibee · 04/11/2008 22:34

gill-how is your nephew-so sorry about your cat too? big big hugs for you. Hope you and dd are not too sad

hersetta-wow caitlin is gorgous no wonder she got the modelling job-let us know how it goes

james-hope you're ok now

meandmyjoe-well done to Joe on his drink word

Callums teeth are still hurting and something he ate yesterday he is also allergic to and has caused his bottom to flare up a bit so hopefully we've caught it in time.

I'm 26 tomorrow-yeah-nearer to 30 than 20! Also dh and i have been together for 10 years in 2 weeks, although only married for 5, so hopefully an exciting few weeks.

As a bonus my daddy will be staying too-he's having an op on thurs for impinging bursitus and he's coming to recouperate with us (I'm a real daddys girl so it'll be lovely to have him for a few weeks and c adores his 'nandad')

Matthew (dh) is flying down to London to take dad and then is driving him up here on fri. Callum and i can't go as i have 5 blood tests and C has his jabs-FINALLY-after C being ill 3 times and having to reshedule and then the nurse being on holiday

meandmyjoe · 05/11/2008 06:49

Poor Callum's bottom, hope he's OK! Happy Birthday Helibee, have a great day, are you doing anything exciting? Hope your dad is on the mend soon too and enjoys his stay with you.

Joe has 3 pre molar teeth coming through all at once. 2 at bottom, one at top. Which could be why he was fairly grumpy yesterday and the day before. They seem to be almost through so hopefully won't cause trouble for too much longer, at least it hasn't affected his sleep (so far).

Anyway, Gill, how's your nephew doing? Is dd OK about Tiggy? It must be sad for you all.

Right, Joseph seems to have eaten all his porridge so better go release him! He's getting so good at spoon feeding himself, he makes less mess than I do

xxx

GillL · 05/11/2008 14:25

Hello. The news we had yesterday about my nephew was that he was no worse. He has been sedated so that they can get rid of the infection and they are going to try to give him a feed today to see if he can keep that down. Sil must be out of her mind with worry.

Dd is missing Tiggy. I'm feeling a bit better today. We've decided that we're going to bury her in the back garden. The vet wanted £35 to 'dispose' of her.

Happy birthday helibee! Hope you're having a nice day. Have you had any nice pressies? Snap! My dh and I will have been together for 10 years at the end of this month. We've been married for 4 1/2 years. Hope your dad's op goes well.

Sounds like teeth are causing a lot of pain at the moment. I think a lot of the babies are almost done teething. Alex still only 4 so he'll be teething for a long while yet. Fortunately they don't seem to bother him that much.

My2 - I forgot to reply to your question. My eye test is on Friday after some school visits. Have you taken your dd to visit any schools yet?

loler · 05/11/2008 19:27

wow - lots been happening here!

congratulations on all the good things. for all the bad. And for me being so lazy!

I've been really busy. Having 3 dc didn't seem to make much difference until I went to work - I never seem to ever have a minute to myself! Have been at a manky factory all day today and am completely zonked so can be bothered to do the million and one things that need doing and dh entertaining client so sandwiches for tea!

ds2 is still completely fantastic and has everyone wrapped up in him. He's not speaking - he just screeches and everyone gives him what he wants! He's got 5 teeth, so a wonky smile that he's had for ages! Glad to hear other people have got even few - aleast I can be lax with the tooth brush!

He doesn't sit still for a minute but isn't walking. I think it's because he spends most of his time pushing a car around in front of him. He is such a boy (ds1 was far more into dolls!). He's pretty much given up sleeping during the day but does sleep 12 hours at night so I guess its swings and roundabouts!

Well off to veg in front of tv with a glass of wine.....

meandmyjoe · 05/11/2008 19:31

Just checked while brushing Joe's teeth tonight and he has a back molar through. Just one spike of it but the rest of it is coming. Seems very early, I thought they didn't get them til they were 2?? The pre molars are coming too so no wonder he was moody the other day. It must be quite uncomfortable when they all come through at once. He'll have them all by Christmas at this rate.

Gill, glad that your nephew is no worse. his mummy must feel so scared. Really keeping my fingers crossed that he makes a speedy recovery.

Was anyone else really sad and stayed up watching the US election last night or was it just me?? So pleased about the result though, it actually made me a bit tearful when I watched Obama's speech . I love politics though, I remember on May 1st 1997, I stayed up watching the votes being declared. I was 13 at the time! Bit of a geek like that. I even go delivering leaflets for the Liberal Democrat party in our town. Really need to get a life, I even did my degree in politics!

Anyway, gonna go and watch the fireworks, they are very pretty and thankfully not too loud round here so Joe is fast asleep.

meandmyjoe · 06/11/2008 06:50

Bloody hell, Joe has anothe spike of a molar through on the other side now. Poor little boy, they are coming through thick and fast. I wasn't expecting the back ones through for a while.

Oddly, he doesn't seem at all bothered by them now. He tends to be foul about 5 days before they cut through though, then when they actually arrive, he doesn't seem to notice . I think I 'll book him a dentist check up, he hasn't even been once yet , he only had 6 teeth from 8 mths-13 mths and now it's all gone a bit beserk!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/11/2008 12:15

Hello folks, actually managed to read and catch up for once! that never happens these days!

meandmyjoe - can't believe joe has so many teeth! still 7 here although he's definitely been teething the past week or so. The spoonfeeding sounds cool, I have to admit I don't often give James a spoon a mealtimes (he usually is more successful with an adult sized fork for some reason) as he just slaps the food around with it then throws it. Perhaps I should be trying more.

I didn't stay up to watch the election, but heard the news on the radio at 6am and woke dp up to tell him. It's fantastic news, I hope it'll make a real change.

loler I don't know how you do it! I'd be a walking zombie if I had 3 kids! James is definitely a proper boy too, he's nuts about his cars, loves anything with wheels in fact. He's currently just starting to go backwards on his ride on thingy.

Gill I'm glad your nephew is no worse, I hope he gets better quickly and home to his long suffering mum and dad! Good luck with your eye test, I do hope they find that's the reason for your headaches, as it's easily solved then. I hope you're feeling better after your very bad day, I did feel sorry for you.

Helibee hope you had a good birthday, sorry about C's bum. J's still gets sore quite often, esp after fruit. Hope your Dad recovers well from his op and you enjoy your time with him.

Hersetta hope the shoot goes well, I'm sure they'll love her. Keep your fingers crossed for free stuff!

As for the rest of you, hope you're keeping well and all the pregnant ladies are getting some rest (yeah, right!) and especially knickers with her new bundle!

Does anyone else's dc love walking backwards? I keep catching him trying things out like that, and dancing/stamping frantically to any music. The latest thing is putting buckets and things on his head. He loves watching the "words and pictures" type program on cbeebies and I sometimes find him practising his C's and G's whilst watching. Still no proper words though. He talks from the back of his mouth, you barely see his mouth move when he makes his noises, but I'm not worried yet as he is trying to talk a bit.

I'm really loving the stage James is at, I almost wish he wouldn't change but I know there's more fun to come. He's such a happy boy, really loving and affectionate and constantly laughing and copying us, and doing hilarious things. Yesterday the cat went to sit with him, and he put his arm round the cat and gave him a squeeze and a kiss. lol He's so sweet to them.

I've finally started thinking about the next one! I think we will start to ttc next christmas so James is about three and in pre-school when I'm due, that way I'll have some space and time with the new baby. So I have a year to lose some weight and get myself baby worthy again! Not looking forward to the inevitable SPD though.

I've found out there is a little 6 bed midwife led unit in the new town with two birth pools, although whether I'll go for that I don't know as I'm still pretty convinced I want a constant epidural from like... ooh, 36 weeks, just to be sure I don't have to feel anything at all. lol I'm such a pansy. Sorry for the epic post, bye for now x

OP posts:
conkertree · 06/11/2008 13:44

hope you had a great birthday helibee - i'm 27 now and 26 was a nice age.

hope your nephew is on the mend Gill.

meandmyjoe - cant believe all these teeth - i havent actually stuck my finger in ds's mouth for a while but maybe should as he is back to dribbling a river all day every day.

re - the election - didnt quite stay up but did have my lap top on beside the bed and when struan woke up at 12.30 and 4.30 i had a check to see what was happening. The Scottish parliament/local council elections were very exciting in 2007 - my bil is leader of renfrewshire council, and we went from his count on holiday to France so listened to the results all the way down in the car through England. Was exciting to have a change then too.

loler - nice to see you/hear from you. sounds like you are having a good time with your dc.

wow james - that was a mammoth post. ds is the same with a spoon so i tend to give him mostly things to eat with his hands or i still spoon feed him at times, but i really should make more of an effort to get his to use his own.

sounds like james is very cute. i wondered if you were thinking of another as i saw you post on one of the pregnancy threads . about spd - iam starting to get really painful hips/pelvis in bed. have read wee bits about spd but still cant quite work out what it is - it hurts a bit in the middle at the front of my pelvis when i am sitting at work, but at night its the sides - doesnt seem to matter which side i lie on. any advice?

Hersetta · 06/11/2008 13:57

ooh talk of TTC - how exciting James.

Caitlin's shoot went very well yesterday and they were very complementary about her. The shoot was for pictures for the product packaging so we won't see the results for a while as the only toy they had to play with was the prototype (which Cait wasn't impressed with) so it'll be a while (propabaly next Xmas!)before you can see her.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/11/2008 14:40

lol, it was rather a mammoth post, but I've been crap for ages and haven't done much of a roundup!

Hersetta, congrats on the good shoot, I'll be scouring the teletubbies merchandise for her next christmas!

Conker, I always lurk on the pregnancy threads to be honest. Only just starting to feel a bit broody now though! sorry to hear you're starting with SPD, it's horrible.

Right, my advice on it would be to get as much rest as humanly possible. Walking too much really aggravates it and you'll be sore for days afterwards. Try to keep your legs together as much as possible when getting in and out of the car or into bed, and get assistance to get in the bath, as if you slip, the jarring can really f* the whole area up for a while. (And don't even think about sex positions where you have to hold your legs in the air!)

Try to avoid using the stairs more than you need to and wear comfortable flat shoes. Satin pyjamas or sheets can help in bed if you're finding it hard to turn over (I had to get dp to roll me over in the end, couldn't do it without a huge painful "CLUNK" from my pelvis. It still clunks now but doesn't hurt) If you haven't got one already, invest in a v pillow or a body pillow, and try using it as a support for between your knees/under the developing bump, which should align your pelvis a bit and make it less achy.

I know the current advice is to sleep on your left hand side as much as possible but with spd it can get so painful sleeping on one hip you just have to move. I wouldn't worry too much about it, you need your sleep, it's so important. I've also heard good things about memory foam mattress toppers with SPD, it's supposed to help minimise hip pain, if you can afford it I'd go for it.

I know some people swear by getting a support belt, I never had one so don't know if they're any good but if you want one, ask for one now as some hospitals take ages giving you one- probably in the hopes they won't have to cos it'll be too late. Same with physiotherapy sessions, which have mixed reviews, by all accounts.

One thing I will say, is that even though I had it fairly bad at the end it didn't affect the birth at all, and afterwards I felt fab (although it's "still there" in the background if I walk too far) so don't worry about that. Hth chuck! x

OP posts:
conkertree · 06/11/2008 15:10

thanks james - thats all really useful advice - do you think that sounds like the start of spd then? i certainly went for a fairly long (3.5 miles each way) walk to get to the midwife on tuesday, and the pain at night started after that.

will need to find a better way to sit at work too, cause its slightly painful just now.

good to hear it didnt affect the birth too much though.

hersetta - that's exciting about the photo shoot - was it a casting shoot or does she definitely have the job (sorry if i missed that from an earlier post). Did she have a good time, even if the toy wasnt great?
