conkertree · 23/10/2008 13:43

i agree with knickers hersetta - i'd make an appointment just to check it out. Much as I like my hv, I dont think I'd always trust her judgement, and would rather a doctor had a wee look, and if she's better by the time the appointment comes, you can always just cancel it.

conkertree · 23/10/2008 16:55

me again - sorry to constantly be posting just now - work is just so quiet.

ended up telling my boss today about being pg cause they are having a meeting tomorrow about the downturn in business and I wont be there, so just telling me what would be said. They are hoping some people may want to go part time for a while, or maybe retire - we have a couple nearly at that age - but dont want to push anyone just now.

Said I wasnt high up the list anyway which is nice to know, but thought I'd better mention being pg so it can be taken into account when doing the sums. Wouldnt mind maybe starting maternity leave a bit earlier too if it would help things a bit.

They are hoping that business picks up a bit by next spring though.

Anyway, after boss, told the others in the office. Everyone very pleased, but typically, got the usual "was it planned" from about half of them. granted it wont be a huge age gap, but its not that unusual either. what do they expect me to say grr. and relax.

leifmum · 24/10/2008 12:31

hey everyone!

conker- telling my boss at work when i was pregnant was one of the worst things. must be a relief you've told them now. i remember first time dd moved felt like a bubble bursting. slightly broody again!

dd's sleep seems to be bit better (probably jinxed myself now!) took her to doctor's the other day because she ALWAYS has a cough even with no cold. only been two weeks when it's gone completely in her life so though i'd best get her checked. her chest is completely clear which is good but surprised the doctor having heard her rattling away! have to take her back in a couple of weeks for her to listen again. slightly annoyed because she said i had to get her weighed even though i know her wieght is fine and she agreed as well. seems sometimes they ask for that with no good reason. anyway luckily there was a clinic yesterday so trotted along and she's now 27 lbs 1 oz so bang on 98th percentile. waste of time!

knickers - still no sign of baby? get curry and pineapple eating!

dh's grandad passec away wednesday morning. he was still in hospital and i think it all became too much. dh went up that afternoon to see him and we'll be going up for the funeral next week. think dd picked up on me being slightly stressed and really played u that day. nappy changing was a nightmare. refused to keep still in a ny position. went for a nice walk wth a friend in the afternoon and she was good as gold. when it came to putting her in the car she turned into a monster with superhuman strength! holding onto the car door and arching her back so much it was impossible to get her into the seat. took about 6 attempts in the end. got quite a few strange looks from other people. must have lookd quite bad i suppose. very frustrating.

had a bit of retail therapy yesterday and bought a pair of winter boots from matalan. very chuffed with them because they were such a bargain and just what i wanted.

hope you all have good weekend!

leifmum · 24/10/2008 12:32

sorry meant to add hersetta - i'd go to the doctors too. good luck!

My2 · 24/10/2008 13:11

dd1 is at nursery and dd2 having a nap...will see how long i get to myself

leifmum - sorry to hear about DH's grandad. my 2 certainly seem to know when i'm a bit more stressed and act up.

conker - people kept asking me with both mine 'was it planned', find it a very rude question as it's no-ones business! that's good to know you are further down the list. enjoy the show tonight.

hersetta - hope she gets better soon - nothing worse that clearing up sick/changing beds etc in the wee small hours. could just be a wee bug.

knickers - fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long....

gill - how#s the headaches? did your dd enjoy her nature trail?

i really can't believe the torrential rain and gale force winds we are getting. the garden furniture and toys are all blown all over the place - i'm dreading going out there to see if anything is broken.

off to have a cup of tea and read the herald (bet i just get sat down and dd2 wakes)

Hersetta · 24/10/2008 13:45

Well, fingers crrossed she on the mend - no sickness for 36 hours now so hopefully she's turned the corner. Her childminder said she seemed like her normal self yesterday and ate all her food (if fact she ate better than i did as her childminder provides all the food (except snacks) for her so she had chicken risotto and chicken caserole with mash and carrots followed by yoghurts and grapes).

She's turning into a yobo though as my DH said she had made little boys cry the last two weeks at her music and singing class. Last week a little one tried to steel her rattle, so she took it back of him and then hit him over the head with it - which I must admit did make me lol. This morning however she made a lttle boy howl by holding his hand !! Ahh cute.

Have a good weekend all - we're hoping for a better saturday than last week when Caitlin got her weekly swimming class abandoned when she poked exorcist style in the pool!.

Hersetta · 24/10/2008 13:48

Sorry, should be puked.

GillL · 25/10/2008 08:16

Hi all. I was just about to go to bed at 9pm on Wednesday when dh woke up and wanted me to get him toast and a drink. So I didn't get the early night I was hoping for. Then the dcs had me up for most of the night so I was shattered on Thursday. Dd did enjoy her nature trail but ds got quite fed up after a short while. I didn't have Friday off unfortunately. I've only got a few day's leave left to last me til the end of the year. If I don't have to use them before, I'm hoping to get some extra time off at xmas.

Ds has got a black eye after falling over at my mum's. He's trying to walk everywhere now.

Hersetta - glad Caitlin is better now. Must have been quite worrying. My niece keeps being sick but only at night and no one seems to know why.

leifmum - sorry to hear about dh's grandad. Hope dh and his family are ok.

My2 - hope you had a nice rest yesterday. My headaches haven't been too bad the last couple of days, thanks.

We're off out today to meet up with dh's cousin and her 2 girls (6 and 8). Hopefully should be a fun day.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/10/2008 13:34

Hi everyone, hope you're all ok. Scanned through posts but don't have time to read properly sorry.

conker congrats on the bubbles, that's so lovely. I remember when I was 17 wks pg with James we had gone to mothercare to buy a doppler but realised (at the till) I had forgotten my card and dp had no money with him, and I was really sad and annoyed in the car going home until I suddenly "tuned in" to a little bubbling tapping sensation, the first time I'd felt anything. It was magic!

Blackbird, wow you're overdue already? god the time has gone quick (to us, probably not to you!) how are you feeling?

Tash, are you out there? you ok?

Lizzie and hersetta, hope your dc are feeling better now.

All ok here but the fight with depression etc goes on. Homestart's helping, it's good knowing I'll definitely get reliable help once a week.

James is fine, he's loving doing his drawing now, my kitchen wall is covered in his scribblings, and he's quite proud of them, points at them all the time and tries to get to his art box to do some more. I've been printing off some of the cbeebies colouring in pics for him, their site is really good.

Anyway, better get on, hope you're ok and the babies toddlers are ok too!

OP posts:
meandmyjoe · 25/10/2008 15:22

Hi

James sounds like such a cute boy! You must be prod of his scribblings . Joe is rather proud of his paintings, I have them on my fridge and he is always pointing and smiling at them, They are not suprisingly just blobs and smudges but truth be told, I love them too!

Gill, good to hear your headaches are better. Sounds like the nature walk was fun.

Hersetta, hope dd's sickness has gone. It's horrid when you don't know what's wrong with them.

Tasha hope everything's ok and the boys are all well.

Joe seems to get more happy everyday. Judging by the sort of young baby he was I never ever thought he'd be such a happy go lucky smiler. He tends to run everywhere though so we've had a fair few bumps today .

Joe went to a new 'Daddy and Me' toddler group today. It's run by one of dh's friends who works for surestart. DH said it was great cos it's normally me who takes him to play groups. Joe came back with a picture they had made of leaves, it's lovely. It also gave me time to crack on with decorating our bedroom.

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

GillL · 25/10/2008 22:06

Hi James. Sounds like James is taking after his mum with his arty side

meandmyjoe - you're lucky to have a dh who enjoys spending time with his dc. My dh hates it when I leave the dcs with him even for half an hour and wouldn't dream of taking them to a toddler/baby group.

Anyone started their christmas shopping yet? I promised myself I wouldn't spend much on the dcs but I keep finding loads of things I want to buy them.

helibee · 26/10/2008 04:51

hiya all, i can't sleep. I've been to sleep and woken up again. Callums sleep has gone routine has gone VERY wonky! He now has 7 teeth coming through at once at last check (when i dared to place my fingers in his mouth-i came out with teeth imprints ) anyway they are really hurting him and he is waking every half hour all through the night. On thurs night he was awake from 3am (bearing in mind he doesn't go to bed till 10pm) and as we were at PIL he was in our room and running around-then was stroking his daddy's head and saying "aaahhh" to him anyway we were supposed to go to Manchester this weekend but both dh and i were zombies on fri! Last night we bought him back in with us-we put his cotbed mattress on our floor and we have a very low bed so that was ok and we all got a wee bit more sleep but the sooner these teeth come through the better! Especially as were supposed to be in North Wales next weekend.

Anyway sorry that was all me me me!

My2/conker-sorry again but as you can see C has been like this since we were due to meet up and MY sleep routine is now all confused!

conker-how exciting about feeling the baby move! I'm so so broody (even with all the sleepless nights)

james-J sounds gorgeous and doing very well with his drawing-Callum loves drawing but he also likes to eat the crayons!

C's new fav thing is nodding and shaking his head and then laughing. When he's not supposed to be doing something he will look at you whilst touching it and shaking his head, then he points at you and giggles! Also he was tipping his milk on the floor the other day so i took it away from him and said no, to which he looked at me with a raised eyebrow and a half smile a he cocked his finger at me as if to say "did you really just take that away from me you monkey" what a character!

meandmyjoe-Joseph looks so so gorgeous in your pics, hows the decorating coming along?

gill-how are you feeling? i never start christmas shopping till after my birthday (nov 5th) so after next wed i'll get started!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 26/10/2008 13:33

Oh my god, everyone's talking about christmas already!! I think we're going to buy James a sit n spin bouncing zebra thingy - we probably won't get him anything else as we've got too many toys as it is and we've just bought him a trampoline. What's everyone else buying?

I have to admit I don't much enjoy christmas these days because we're always skint and I try to be careful with money but we have quite a few teenagers in our family and I know they'd all prefer money but then that's best part of £100 gone straight away and you haven't even bought the adults or our friends anything yet.

Looks like we will be at mil's for christmas day (I don't mind, any excuse not to cook!) What is everyone doing about the christmas tree? I know James will attempt to climb it, and yank all the decorations off. Not to mention the bloomin' kittens!! crikey.

OP posts:
My2 · 26/10/2008 19:48

i've got to admit to having started my xmas shopping . i decided that i was not going to end up leaving it to the last minute then spending a fortune as i've not thought about it properly.

no idea what to get dd2 though...dd1 there's loads of things - she's at the age where she can say, or it's great watching what they play with in elc and thinking - 'no way am i getting that with the annoying tune'

dd2 is on antibiotics - i thought her cold was getting better but yesterday she sounded really chesty - so took her to out of hours gp and she's got lots of crackles . so we didn't get much sleep here last niht.

helibee - hope c's teeth come thorugh very soon.

james - i've got a wall like that. i foudn that if i tried to remove the work of art it was very quickly scribbled/chalked/felt-tip penned/crayoned/biro'd/stickered over again. so now that i've left it - no more has been added. are you still on the ADs? do you think they are helping?

conker - how's the bubbles? i liked the early bubbles too.

meandmyjow - that sounds like a good idea 'daddy and me' - give some mums a wee rest.

off to get organised then an early night..

meandmyjoe · 27/10/2008 07:29

I've nearly finished my Christmas shopping. I know it's stupidly early but every year I leave it til the last minute and end up spending so much and spending hours wrapping presents on Christmas eve which with a walking/ running baby to look after is just not possible! I've been buying them for a few weeks and wrapping them as I go along. I'm frightfully organised this year (but something inevitably will go wrong and I'll have forgotten to buy for someone, it never goes perfectly!!!).

James, I was wondering exactly the same thing about the Christmas tree. I'm sure Joseph will just pull it down and deffinitely pull the lights/ baubles off it. I am thinking of this year just putting the tree in the dining room instead of the living room. He doesn't go in there on his own and we only really use it at meal times when he's in his highchair. It'll look lovely when we are having christmas dinner in there. I may just trim the living room up with some twinkley white fairy lights and leave it at that!

Helibee, the decorating has come to a bit of a stand still but we will get there! Thanks for the nice comment about my pics!

Gill at your dh not wanting to be alone with the dcs. Dh works 12 hour days so I am on my own with ds a lot but every 4 days, he gets 4 days off so those days he is brilliant with Joe. He comes along to the todder groups and takes him out shopping for an hour or 2 so I can have some time to myself about once a week. I usually spend this time doing housework though as Joseph has decided he's scared of the hoover so I have to vacuum when he's out . Has anyone else found this?? Not sure why but this last months, he's so scared of it and wants me to pick him up whilst I hoover.

Anyway, ds finished breakfast and nearly doing backflips in the highchair so better go!

meandmyjoe · 27/10/2008 07:37

Oh forgot to say, Joseph says 'ball' now and 'dar', when he points at a car, it's really very sweet. Is anyone else feeling that this is just the best age for their dcs?

I wish I could just freeze him at this point in his life, before the 20 minute tantrums kick in and the cocky school kid with attitude rears his head! He sleeps well (now he has stopped waking at 5am , he eats well, he adores me but is over the super duper clingy phase, he is fan-bloody-tastic!

lizziemun · 27/10/2008 08:59

I got dd's presents from the ELC as i had a 20% voucher along with Lexie's birthday club present.

But i will have all mine done by the middle of Nov because i hate shopping and will not be going the shops in december.

I don't know what gone wrong with dd's sleep since the clocks going back, both are waking at the same time so actually sleeping an hour longer .

meandmyjoe · 27/10/2008 10:29

Did everyone do OK with the clocks going back? We just kept ds uup for an hour later on Sat night so he went to bed at 8 istead but still slept for 12 hours so can't complain.

conkertree · 27/10/2008 12:15

what a lovely cheery post menadmyjoe - i totally agree that I love this age - I love that they are starting to say things, and you know that they understand lots more than that too.

I'm really looking forward to Christmas, although the money thing is always a niggle - have been trying to save a wee bit extra the last few months to make the buying presents easier, and I think for once we have managed it. I'm more looking forward to the decorations and things cause bought Nigella Lawson's christmas book and its put me in the mood.

Going to try making lots of things this year - had a look on the internet for some crafty things to try, and going to do them in November instead of leaving it to the last minute as usual.

Will have the pil for christmas which would not be my first choice, but got to be done some years, and we'll then go up to my parents on boxing day and that'll be great - they usually get snow.

conkertree · 27/10/2008 12:58

oh and meant to add about the hoover - ds hates it too - he hates hoovers, hairdryers, blow heaters - anything like that.

only way i've got round it so far is with the hair dryer cause he stops crying if i blow it at him sometimes cause he finds that funny.

my2 - did you manage an early night last night? i was at pil and got to go to bed at 9 - was wonderful.

james - hadnt really crossed my mind about the tree being attacked by a toddler - may need to consider a different location for it this year.

helibee - sounds like callum is having an awful time with his teeth - hope that means they will all come at once and he will then get months of nothing.

hi to everyone else.

GillL · 27/10/2008 13:56

Hello. We didn't do too badly with the clocks changing. Dh decided he would get up with ds so I think I got 7 or 8 hours which is as much as I ever get. dh did dinner very late yesterday (even though he promised to do it for a reasonable time ) so I'm surprised the dcs didn't flake out/kick off from being so tired.

helibee - sounds like you're having a bad time of it. Hope Callum's teeth all come through soon so you can catch up on some sleep.

James - we're getting dd a doll's house. We were also given a bike by dh's cousin as her dd2 has grown too big for it. If we think dd will fit on it then she'll get that too, along with a few little bits. We're thinking of getting a Vtech Baby Laptop for ds and some cars. Money's tight here too but for the past few years I have only spent £5 per person regardless of age. It can be hard to find good things for that price but I normally manage it.

I think we will risk it and put the tree up this year. We'll just have to keep an eye on ds. Dd would be very disappointed if we didn't have one. When our cats were kittens we came home every night to the tree on its side on the floor It was fine last year though.

My2 - hope dd2 feels better soon.

meandmyjoe - I agree that this is the nicest age. I felt that with dd too. Ds now says 'car' and 'chair'.

conker - we'll just be going to my mum's this year. We went to pil's for a couple of hours last year and it was very stressful. Sil was there with her 3 and she didn't stop shouting. Dh looked like he was ready to punch someone. Fil's partner looked like she was ready to walk out. It should be quiet at mum's as my sister is staying at home with her family. She doesn't like bil who will be down to stay along with my other sister. Families eh!!!

snotdroolanddirtybums · 27/10/2008 21:21

hiya everyone, sorry about not getting on. ive been so busy with college and squeezing time in for the kids. i havent been able to keep up so hope everyone is well and all the lo's are turning into wee chatterboxes

anybody any plans for halloween? im dressing ds1 as spiderman, ds2 as a spider and still unsure about ds3 but seen the cutest wee costume in birthdays i might get him. im having a wee party on friday for the kids and im so excited. going to look on the internet for spooky ideas.

all the kids are doing great ds3 still not walking but hes saying mama and baba and hiya. hes turning into a right wee boy, starting to play/fight with the other 2 aswell.

christmas?????? havent a clue. they have too much already that just lies at the bottom of a toy box. i really cant think of anything they dont already have or have had. they all kinda share their toys and more babish ones just carry on down the que lol......ill think of something. im keeping my tree bare as it doesnt look too bad because its fiberoptic so hopefully wont have too many problems.

im just back from a weekend in london with ds1. i just loved camden market and spent far too much money in it lol was great to get away and it was ds1s first time on a plane, he was so excited.

knickers, have u had your baby yet??? hope your keeping well.

Hersetta · 28/10/2008 10:15

Hi all,

pleased to report Caitlin is fully recovered and back to her normal happy self - and eating like a horse. She happily stuffs everything in her mouth as fast as she can at the moment and has become a bit of a thief. On saturday i was eating a bowl of fusilli with sun dried tomatoes, chorizo and olives that I had made and Cait came over and stared into my bowl and pointed at an olive. i said go on then and she then proceeded to eat every single olive in my bowl and then moved on to the pasta itself. Last night she was in her PJ's and DH and I were eating dinner and she proceeded to help herself to peas from my plate and then moved on to the saute potatoes. After each mouthful, she'd squeel mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I take that as appreciation of my cooking skills.

Only other news from here is that i've just booked our summer holiday for next year as i found a great villa for rent that specifically catered for people with small children as they provide everthing you could possibly need so we won't need to take anything with us. There is a cot, highchair, bath seat, uv sun tent, bed guards, lots of toys, childrens DVD's, a baby ELC guarden slide and play frame, a potty, crayons and paper, beach toys and armbands, a toddler car seat for your use, plastic plates and spoons, even a sterilizer, hand blender and activity mat for those with much younger babies. They even leave you one packet of the right size swim nappies. It sounds great and we won't be weighed down by half a tonne of stuff for cait.

Hope Calum's teething is better soon and knickers hope everything is well with you and that baby puts in an appearance soon.

lizziemun · 28/10/2008 10:27

Hersetta glad Caitlin better.

Your organised booking next year holiday, sounds great. Can i ask where it is (without being to nosy ).

Hersetta · 28/10/2008 10:53
