Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hersetta · 10/09/2008 14:04

been awal at a 2 day seminar so am now 'back in the real world'. The party went really well but to be honest it was exhausting. i cooked and cleaned for 2 days before hand and spent over half my time at the party cooking the food on the BBQ so i felt like i hardly spoke to anyone. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it though and the food went down a storm which was great.

Found out this morning though that one of the other 1 yrs old at the party has been diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease. I don't think Cait had any contact with him but I'm bit worried incase she picks up something. Fingers crossed she doesn't though.

Poor james - his botty sounds so sore.

Hope bradley is well tasha.

Well done on the nose pointing Gill - that is so cute.

snotdroolanddirtybums · 10/09/2008 18:46

i really hate jumping in like this but i just cant seem to keep up anymore

bradley had his op on monday and got home today. i went in while they put him to sleep and it was horrible the operation went well and hes recovering well. hes being syringe fed and is taking solids better than liquids.

hope everyone is well

lizziemun · 10/09/2008 19:28

Tash,

Don't worry about keeping up with us, you have more then enough on plate .

I glad bradley's OP went well. Is that it or will he need more.

GillL · 11/09/2008 12:38

Good to hear the op went well. Hope he's back to himself soon.

Glad the party went well Hersetta. Hope Caitlin doesn't get HF&M. Chicken pox was going round dd's pre-school a few months back but she didn't get it. she tells me that she doesn't play with any of the other children anyway so it was unlikely.

I made an appointment to visit a school at the end of September. I was trying to get dd excited about it because she is set on going to school with her cousin (which is unlikely to happen). She has decided that she will choose her school based on the colour of the uniform so any school is fine as long as the uniform is blue (which happens to be the colour her cousin wears).

lizziemun · 11/09/2008 13:48

I feeling a little today, as it Lizzie 1st day at 'big' school. She was her normal self once she got there, but when me and Lexie got home Lexie kept walking from room to room pointing and saying 'where' 'where' and then crying when i told her 'Lizzie at school' .

GillL · 11/09/2008 16:19

Ahhhhhhhhh, that's so sweet lizzie. Hope she settles in well and lexie gets used to her not being around as much. Let us know how she got on.

meandmyjoe · 11/09/2008 19:52

Hi all, haven't had chance to catch up yet. Been away for 4 days with ds and dh. We went for a shot break at Tattershall country park in Lincolnshire. Only about an hour and hlaf away from here but it was nice to be away as a family. The cabin was gorgeous and the castle was beautiful. We had fun on the lake and Joseph loved walking around everywhere with the dog! It was a bit of a rushed decision to go. DH had 4 days off so we booked it and went! Was lovely but the weather was foul for 2 days so we spent a lot of time looking round a museum and the castle.

Anyway, Leif, glad you had a good time in Cornwall.

Tasha, so pleased to hear that Bradley's op went well

Joseph had his MMR today so I'm really worried about him. I was unsure whether to get it done but there has been a few cases of measles round here lately and my friend's little boy was so ill in 2006 with it so decided to have it done. My aunty is deaf because he had measles as a toddler so I think I made the right decision. I hope!

He was very brave and has been fine ever since so fingers crossed there will be no side effects.

Anyway, will catch up on the thread properly soon.

xxxx

meandmyjoe · 11/09/2008 19:52

SHORT break not shot break, duuhh!

conkertree · 11/09/2008 19:58

struan had his today too meandmyjoe - seemed fine afterwards but i remember that my sisters ds had a few funny days almost a week after getting his - so i think the calpol will be at the ready for the next few days.

holiday sounds good - we are off to centre parcs at the end of september - cant wait although will miss being able to have wine and go in the spa but will be nice anyway.

conkertree · 11/09/2008 20:02

gill - lol at your daughter choosing the colour of the uniform - dh hates it that i decide on cars i like the same way.

and lizziemum - that does sound like the bit of children growing up that i dread but was lexie really pleased to see her when she got home? sure she will like having some time alone with you too once she gets used to it.

lizziemun · 12/09/2008 09:41

Lizzie loved school once she was there. She wasn't so keen on dinner (mash, pastry and cauliflower) Actually Homemade Chicken pie with mash and cauliflower. Only after Lizzie came home from school did we get any giggles from Lexie.

When i took her to school today she just ran without so much as bye. Lexie seems more her normal self today.

Glad you had a nice break myandmyjoe.

GillL · 12/09/2008 13:48

Hi everyone. The weather seems much better today and is supposed to be fairly nice for the weekend too (in SE England anyway). Going to have my haircut tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it (sad I know). I only have it done 2 or 3 times a year because it's so expensive. Ds is having his done too.

Glad you had a nice break meandmyjoe.

conker I love Centerparks. I'm hoping we can go next year as we haven't been on holiday for the last 2 years. My mum always tells my dad to get a green car but he never listens to her.

lizzie - glad Lizzie enjoyed school. It must make you feel better that she isn't upset to go in. Dd was terrible going into pre-school for the first half term and had to be peeled off mum in tears most days. I can imagine she will be like this going to school too, although I hope not.

leifmum · 12/09/2008 21:01

evening everyone!

been abusy few days at work. not done four days in a row since before baby so was beginning to feel it by the end of yesterday. luckily had the thought of getting home and seeing dd again to keep me going. was fab seeing hr but to be honest could have done with a bit more adoration from her!! nver mind!

today went shoe shopiing this morning. always a bit of a trial because i have big feet which seem to have grown recently and it's usually the case that the shops don't have my size. but for once i struck lucky at brantano. then took dd to a birthay party which was good. apparently she loves scotch eggs! just started grabbing them off the table - no manners!

she refused to sleep today so byt bedtime was very grouchy and tired and fell asleep having her bottle. always nice in a way when that happens!

dh is workng overnigh tonight so have just done some ironing. my sil was getting rid of a lot of her clothes so passed them on to me which is cool. now the plan is bath book and bed. tomorrow i'm finally doing my xmas pressie which is driving a lamborghini. i'm honestly not too sure about it! i quite like driving fast but i'm worried i'll crash or more embarrassingly stall. hubby has assurd me it's impossible to stall it but there's always a first time! bizarre that the most exciting weekends of th year have come together. my life will be back to it's usual monotony sunday!

glad lizzie's enjoying school. i'm sure lexie will enjoy having time to herself and she'll enjoy the holidays too.

enjoy your haircut gill. i still don't really like going to the hairdressers. i think it's because of memories of my mum trying to brush tangles out of my hair. that combind with the fact that whenever i get it cut short they sem to do it princess diana style!!! at the moment mine has just got beyond the awkward not short not long stage so think i'll leave it be a bit longer.

your break sounded lovely joe. shame abput the weather but at least you still manged to enjoy it. i've always wanted to go to centreparks too but whenever we look at it it seems so expensive.

glad bradley's op went ok tasha. is he home yet?

hi everyone else too! have good weekend!

My2 · 13/09/2008 20:36

hi all - i'm crap at keeping up. too much going on just now.

bought dd2 her first pair of shoes yesterday - and all she does is chew them them and take them off

i took both dds to soft play last week - haven't been there for about 3 months as i refuse to go when the schools are on holiday. my heart was in my mouth half the time with dd2 - she is fearless!!! climbing out of the 'baby' bit into the under 5's climbing frame and tearing round to get to the chute. somehow she knew to go down feet first on her tummy. then she'd play 'hide and seek with me - well 'hide and make mummy worry where i am as she can't see me and i'm too fast for her' .

tashsa = how's your wee man? was this this op to repair soft palate? hope he's not giving you any concerns?

lizzie - that's good she's enjoying school - would be worse if she howled and clung onto to you.

leifmum - i love it when dd2 falls asleep having her milk too

conker - did you ever get things sorted with your house? how are you keeping? do you need to be careful now your pg with the chickens and cleaning their hoose?

gill - how's the sleep doing is ds still getting up early?

meandmyjoes - to your few days away - that sounds like bliss ...... must try and get something organised.

james - how's james's bum now?

helibee - how are you? and callum? was at braehead today and was thinking that could be a good place to meet, or kelvin grove when we eventually get organised?

helibee · 14/09/2008 00:04

hiya, james-just to say that james's molars could be coming through as it turns out the doc said that was what was causing Callums bottom-also his went away for a day then came back again too. He had the bleeding and everything, sounds identical but he's virtually healed now! as i know how frustrating it is, when C was at his worst with it he wouldn't even let us pick him up as his bottom was so raw and he was in agony!

As for foods, your reasoning with fruit sounds pretty on the spot and C's bottom was also one of the reasons (amongst others) that the doc told us that Callum may be intolerant to full cows milk and since we've had him on the cow and gate no 4 milk (from 12 months) he's been tonnes better.

Thankfully after a month of being ill he's himself again and is getting into lots of mischeif-he runs very well and is getting everywhere he's not supposed to-he even worked out how to open the stairgate!

Tasha-glad Bradleys home and hope he's feeling lots better soon and isn't in too much pain-how are the others doing?

my2-i love braehead, it's very near to MIL so we go a lot and it's also our nearest IKEA. Kelvingrove is just by dh's work so any sounds good-what do you think Conker? Also how about Oct 18th ish for meeting up as i know you're quite busy at the mo my2?

meandmyjoe-glad you had a good break, i personally think the MMR is for the best. I nannied for 3 children under 4 a few years ago and the baby nearly died from measles-she was in GOSH for 3 months. Callum hasn't had his date through yet, i need to phone them on mon.

Gill-i love centre parcs too, i used to go all the time when i wa young and can't wait to take Callum. I think we're hoping to go back up to Aviemore in Nov though.

lizziemum-glad dd is enjoying school, i know it must be hard for you-i'm going to be a nightmare when the time comes ( i KNOW i'll be the mum in tears at the gate)

leifmum-hope you have a good week this week with plenty of adoration from dd this week too

Hersetta-hope Caitlins ok and she didn't get hf&m from the other child

helibee · 14/09/2008 01:11

i've just updated c's pics-off to bed!

GillL · 14/09/2008 07:28

Morning.

Ds' speech is coming along slowly but surely. He say cat whenever he sees an animal and when I say ready..steady.. he says 'go'. He also seems to understand a lot of words. If he seems to want something, I start guessing. When I say the right thing he smiles and laughs.

I enjoyed my haircut yesterday but I had a new girl and she cut my hair a lot shorter than I asked for. I'll now have to make sure I dry and style it in the morning I often don't have time.

leifmum - I have a similar problem getting shoes. I'm size 5 or 6 (depending on where I go) which always sell out first. Also, I have quite narrow feet so I struggle to find shoes which aren't too loose. I hate shoe shopping.

My2 - sounds like dd2 had a great time at soft play. I haven't taken both of mine on my own yet, only with friends to help watch them. Ds isn't that bothered really. Sleep is much better now thanks. For the last two weeks ds hasn't got up before 6

Glad Callum is back to normal helibee. You must be relieved.

Hersetta · 15/09/2008 14:09

Well no sign of HF&M just yet. I though she did have it though for a while as starting last thurday she started screaming in pain for hours which calpol etc didn't help, not eating and for the first time ever, refusing to take her dummy and so she ended up crying her self to sleep for two night only to wake screaming and do the same an hour later.

However the constant dribbling which was so bad she'd leave pools of it on the floor and has had to constantly wear a bib which is soaked after an hour leads me to think that it's just her teeth playing her up.

Thankfully, she's a bit better now and went to bed as normal last night (with her dummy) and has started to eat a bit more so hopefully the worst has passed.

Helibee, cute pics of Callum.

GillL · 15/09/2008 14:41

Hi Hersetta. That must have been very distressing for both of you. Glad she is getting back to her normal self now.

I really can't think of anything to say except, where is everyone? Hope you're all ok.

meandmyjoe · 15/09/2008 19:20

Hope she's getting better Hersetta, must have been awful. Sounds like teething, bless her.

Joseph is in teething hell at the moment, he has whinged and grizzled every 5-10 minutes today and I can see no other reason for it so i'm blaming the teeth. Although was wondering if it may be the side effets from the MMR jab he had last week??? Not sure, does anyone have any experience of this?? Bedtime could not come quick enough today! He hasn't been crying non stop or anything but just very whingy and whining even whilst seemingly playing with something. He kept climbing on to the sofa, then crawling all over me, crying when he couldn't reach the picture on the wall, crying when I put him down again, crying every nappy change, every time I stood up he's clung to my legs and wanted carrying. He went to sleep fine though and settled himself so not sure.

Didn't help as dh was on nights last night so spent the whole day (til 3pm!!!) in bed
Just glad todays over! Hope you've all had better days then me.

helibee · 16/09/2008 15:53

hersetta and meandmyjoe sorry you've had a rough few days.

meandmyjoe-have you tried giving him any calpol or brufen to see if he's better with that? It might help you to rule out any pain. Callum does what you describe when he's over tired so maybe joseph is just going throug a growth spurt and a bit more tired than usual. Hope he's ok soon.

Callum is currently pointing to everything in the study and saying "is daddys" with a very proud smile on his face

Hersetta · 16/09/2008 16:38

Well, we seemed to have turned a corner - she ate well last night and even cried when it was all gone (it was yummy roast lamb with all the trimmings though!). She's slept much better and has even been taking her dummy sometimes. I still worry it's HF&M, but I can't see any sores on her mouth, but she does have one on her lady bits which hasn't bothered her at all. Am keeping on giving her ice cream and fruit ice cubes which she has no objections to at all! Either way i guess it's just something that will pass in time.

meandmyjoe, it does sound like Joe might be suffering from a slight reaction to the MMR, he's probably just not feeling quite himself and doesn't know why , but knows that cuddles from Mummy make him feel secure and loved.

Does anyone know if I can get orange flavour calpol or calpol substitute. Caitlin loves the orange ibruprofen but hates strawberry calpol, but tesco didn't have any. Does anyone know if I can pick it up somewhere?

I'm hoping she'll be fully recovered by the weekend as we're going to Spain for 6 days on Sunday.

leifmum · 16/09/2008 19:25

just a quick one as about to put dd to bed.

hersetta - dd would never take strawberry calpol but loves lloyds pharmacy paracetamol syrup which is cherry flavour. just an idea.

back later hopefully!

My2 · 16/09/2008 19:56

hjust popped in quickly

meandmyjoe - yep i would say reaction to the mmr - tends to happen 7-12 days after they'e had the jags. give him calpol and brufen as well - if you've not already. my dd2 is getting her jags on friday - and i'll need to take dd1 with me so really not looking forward to that!

hersetta - think boots own make is orange...though i may be wrong.

helibee - is the 13th oct any good for you? we are having to go to mil's at weekends so would struggle on a sat or sun. how's callums bum/teeth? and how are you?

i've got 3 presentations to prepare and deliver in the next few days - one is to 5 people, one to 20 and one to 170 people! i'm a bit nervous...

hope everyone else is well

conkertree · 16/09/2008 20:24

just a quick hello from me too - have been reading posts but not had much to say - am just so tired all the time just now, but hope everyones los are feeling better today.

good luck with the presentations my2. would like to meet up sometime, but saturdays are not great for me as we seem to have so many booked already between now and christmas. if you ever decide to get together on a tuesday or friday though, let me know.
