VS, may I ask you something, please. I've got bouncer-envy... Do you (and more importantly, Alex) like his door bouncer thing? It looks really comfortable on the photo. R likes a bouncer, but this one's not particularly supportive or anything (bought on car boot sale, so no big loss). Initially I thought I won't buy him one, but oh, how the "I would never..."'s fade when you've actually got children of your own.

VictorianSqualor · 05/08/2008 17:37

He loves it Sal, My other two had one as well and I knew I just had to get him one.
We haven't spent out on much else so weren't too bothered about this but DP's Dad surprised us with it anyway.

SalLikesCoffee · 05/08/2008 18:11

Great. What make is it? I've been looking online at pics of bouncers, but haven't found that specific one yet.

VictorianSqualor · 05/08/2008 19:02

It's Lindam. £24.99 from Argos.

SalLikesCoffee · 05/08/2008 19:05

Great, thank you very much!

Mum2BabyRoo · 05/08/2008 19:12

Or £5 from ebay!

scorpio1 · 05/08/2008 19:13

i just got a BNWT adams set for mimi on there for £1.20! LOVE ebay

SalLikesCoffee · 06/08/2008 10:04

Good morning! I considered not sharing my complete stupidity with you, but hey ho, I'm sharing everything else: I won that bouncer on ebay. Uhm, twice My DH (who'll be paying for it, so not sure why he thinks it's so funny) has been laughing at me all night. From now on I'm staying away from ebay - or Scorpio, I'll use you as my ebay agent, you seem to be excellent at it!
I really bid on the first one, but then the second auction was ending 2 minutes after the first. So I put in a really low offer (£5, but plus £6 p+p), not expecting it to sell, as all the others worked out at about £15 incl postage. Then I got both. Luckily found a friend who'll buy the one off me. What an idiot. I think I get overexcited at the thought of "winning" something, hehe.

VictorianSqualor · 06/08/2008 10:57

Loooooool.
You should use bid assistant.

Morning guys - hope nights are better!

This growth spurt is really getting me down. I know it's not really possible but it just seems like she can't be getting enough milk - have been feeding on demand and expressing for a week now (she takes the expressed in the evening) but yesterday seemed after every feed she was still hungry but didn't want breast. She had all I had expressed that day and the day before (so two feeds over and above boob). Got 10ml out of left boob this am! Should I just stop expressing or does that count as extra stimulation? Why has my supply not upped to meet her needs yet? I did have a low-grade stomach bug yesterday but managed to eat quite a lot (just bread and pasta, no fat, but plenty of calories) and drank masses. Have had to cancel dinner out with my best mates tonight as there will be nothing to feed her.

VS, you might guess that most of this is directed at you!

Scampmum · 06/08/2008 11:08

Oh, and DH and I getting on much better. It's definitely a case of the nicer I am to him, the nicer he is (inclined to be) to me. The ILs were over yesterday (doing my head in but not by being awful per se, just by being themselves, which is not my kind of people). Scorpio, I have to talk to you about the cot, is a bit of a nightmare and I have totally cocked up, will email. She cooked dinner (I abstained owing to tummy probs and vegged in front of TV trying to express) and then DH cajoled me into joining them, whereupon he made some comment along the lines of 'wow, it's so nice to sit down to a dinner cooked for me, that never happens, oh, apart from when DW (me) cooks me spaghetti bolognaise... (realises is rude)... and other nice things'. Really wound me up. It's good that he realised, but WTF? I don't cook for him that often but would love to - he is an amazing cook and always takes the helm (so I get to wash up 8000 pans, which I HATE - I know everyone hates washing up, but I really, really hate it - have ocd issues with sinks piled with dishes), and when I offer he usually just says 'oh I don't want that' or eats it and then makes a 'suggestion' about what I could have done. I'm really quite a good cook, by the way, and my repertoire may be a bit limited but I have been busy having kids AND being the main breadwinner for the past 3 years [slightly unreasonable but fuck it I'm really tired emoticon].

VictorianSqualor · 06/08/2008 11:19

Are you sure she was hungry afterwards and not teething?

TBH, If she's not taking the breast when offered, it's probably not hunger.

Expressing is an extra boost to your supply, yes, but your body is used to that boost so sees it as a feed, so a growth spurt will be the same whether or not you express regularly or not. This growth spurt is normally the longest, and the hardest because they are bigger so need to really increase the supply quite a bit.

Alex's is calming down a little, we were on two to three hourly feeds last night rather than every hour but he woke up twice with his teeth too and didn't want feeding just reassurance.

Oh, BTW,I've been speaking to someone at the local babycafe and am possibly training with hem soon to be a peer supporter

OP posts:
Scampmum · 06/08/2008 11:22

I missed out a 'HOWEVER' at some point in that post!!

Scampmum · 06/08/2008 11:32

She will take it a bit and then come off and get cross, then try again. Could be teeth, I guess, which would teach me since MIL kept banging on yesterday about how her dribble (she must need to drink quite a lot just to rehydrate from that, but it's not really new) meant she was teething, and I crossly politely pointed out she was convinced DD1 was teething for at least six months before any teeth appeared!

Thank you so much. I don't think you'll need much training, you'll probably be telling the trainer what's what! Gutted you can't make the meetup.

Have now got 100ml out from the boob I didn't offer after her nap, will now offer both boobs as much as poss until next nap. Good plan?

Glad Alex was a bit better - hopefully his 'growth spurt with a vengeance' tactics should mean it's short and sharp! DD2 also settled twice when she woke without feeding (usually a giveaway that she's not hungry when she falls back asleep when put on her side, only drawback being I have to be holding her there!), having woken up REALLY angry. I always assume it's just wind pain with her but potentially she could have what I had yesterday, which was mainly just really bad stomach cramps.

VictorianSqualor · 06/08/2008 11:45

She may want to feed but the pain in her jaw will get worse with the suction she needs to feed, some babies can teeth for months before showing a tooth (but don't admit that to your MiL )
Try settling her and giving her some calpol or teething powder then re-feeding a bit later, it may help.

OP posts:
Scampmum · 06/08/2008 11:47

Thank you! She is getting really fussy at the breast now, but at both, and there MUST be milk in the right as I haven't fed for an hour and the expressing I just did should have encouraged let-down, right?

VictorianSqualor · 06/08/2008 11:55

There is plenty of milk there, it's like Willy Wonkas chocolate fountain
Every time you take some milk, the exact same amount (or more) is replaced, in the same amount of time it takes you to take it, you make it, so if you're expressing/feeding and it's coming out fast it sends a larger amount of prolactin out to your brain, which says 'We need to make milk, and fast' which it does, if you feed/express and it's coming out slowly, your brain gets less prolactin and it says, 'hmm, better make a bit more milk' and does so.

It's like a factory that always meets it's targets! So, yeah, milk is there, don't worry about that, it's just that she is trying to increase your supply so she can start to feed more, and quicker once it's increased and on top of that, possibly struggling with her teeth.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 06/08/2008 16:11

VS, that's great news! I don't think you'd need any training either, honestly. Of all the lines I've called and people of spoken to lately, you gave the best advice - those lot will be lucky to have you!

SalLikesCoffee · 06/08/2008 16:15

Scampmum, I wanted to say oh, he didn't mean bad (which he didn't) and he just didn't think (which he didn't) and he tried to backtrack (which he did), but all that doesn't matter - it would have annoyed the hell out of me too. DH often does stupid things like that. Drives me nuts. xxx Glad to hear that things are mostly getting better. Inlaws (or anyone in your face when you're not in the mood really) doesn't make things easier. Good luck with The Fussy One. They seem to be around alot lately. You'd have thought they could at least wait with being difficult until teenagers.

scorpio1 · 06/08/2008 16:17

Millie slept through last night thank god, all seems to be normal now.

Scampmum- have emailed you....they sound a bit difficult! Think there is something in the air with DHs and stupid comments at mo...

VictorianSqualor · 06/08/2008 16:40

I might possibly be able to make the meet-up.
The christening is going to be pushed back by a fortnight we think as it turns out DP's uncle & aunt & cousins are on holiday, so I might be able to use some of the funds for that

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 06/08/2008 17:23

Oh, brilliant VS!!! Know not def, but keep my fingers crossed!

Great news about Millie, Scorpio.

R lies on the ground with me now. Sooo tired, but refuses to sleep . Is happy enough while I play with his legs though. I could do with a nap now myself...

Mum2BabyRoo · 06/08/2008 18:25

Fab news about possibly being able to make th emeet up VS and I think you will make a great peer supporter - just look at al the support you give on here!

Gigi slept from 8pm to 5am this morning! I really needed the extra sleep so gave her a huge kiss when she was awake!

How do I go about changing my name? I want something different now - I'm thinking 'MommyHasaHeadache' provided it is not already taken.

VictorianSqualor · 06/08/2008 18:27

Go to my mumsnet, then registration details, then talk name on that page, hit save.
Lucky we were talking abut rearranging the christening, just found out DP's mum's cousin was killed this morning in a bike accident.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 06/08/2008 18:37

Oh VS, I'm so sorry. Were they close (DP and his mom's cousin)? How horrible.
