Hello people, is anyone there?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
macdoodle · 14/09/2008 17:10

wow Lily just ate a huge bowl of....thai green curry and banged on the table for more
To be fair I made it with half the curry paste of usual and mixed hers with lots of rice and some boiled broccoli and cauli...but it still tasted like curry and she loved it
No where close to walking here she is just too fat I think - lots of commando crawling still backwards only and rocking on hands and knees

BouncingTurtle · 14/09/2008 17:25

Very cool Clara! DS is pulling himself up but then can't figure out how to get down again lol!

Macd - your dd has very discerning taste

And well done to Millie, Suey on her first steps

claireybee · 14/09/2008 19:35

Well done Martha! Clara boast away, it is so exciting when they do something new, especially when it is a major milestone like walking

DS finally seems to be getting a reasonable sleep pattern, last night he slept from 10 til 4.30 and then woke at 7. Until then he had mostly been waking just twice (from 7pm) but waking for the day at 6-if we can keep it so I'm only havng to get out of bed once in the night I'll be very happy.

Weight I have no idea, might take him to clinic this week. He seems massive to me, but that is because dd is so tiny (he is up to her shoulders in height and broader than her all over) but my friend's 3 month old is nearly as big as he is and a 5 month old at toddlers is bigger than him so I don't think he can be big really!

becklespeckle · 14/09/2008 21:34

Hello all! Sorry for the very long absence again, had a stressfull couple of weeks! After initially taking a bottle fine DD decided that she wouldn't anymore (on the day I decided to try and give up BF in time for my return to work...). Tried offering at every feed and all we had was screaming from her and tears from me . After a week of this I decided I just couldn't do it, then panicked as BF supply nearly dried up completely, got supply back up and have been burying head in sand ever since! Back to work in 1 week so new plan of action is BF morning and mid-morning and DH to bottle feed in the evening with me out of sight. She let him put the bottle in her mouth tonight, spat it out and went straght to sleep! At least I know she is getting some milk though and hopefully we will crack it soon...

Evie is now a fast crawler, can pull herself to standing with ease and has even taken a few cruising steps! Yesterday she started clapping and waving (on demand no less!) and today she has learnt to bend down from standing and pick something up without falling on her face! She babbles all the time with "ap" being her 'word' of choice this week! We also get "mumumum" when she wants a cuddle . Very lucky with food in that she will eat anything mashed and likes finger foods too. I even gave her a bit of green olive the other day and she ate it - didn't even pull a face!

Anyway, enough of me, hope you are all well! Babies all sound like they are doing well, Clara, can't believe Martha has taken steps already! Bless her! Had a look on the growth charts and at 20lbs at 9 months she would be between the 50th and 75th Centile lines so doing well! I love hearing about how you are doing in Pakistan, all so fascinating! (Trueman Show is one of my fave films BTW).

BT, your doc sounds awful! As if getting teeth means they can't BF, DD has 8 now and she manages just fine!

Macdoodle, poor Lily, how is she doing now?

Amani, your HV sounds a very unhelpful woman! Babies do not generally speak at 8 months so I would not worry about that. Even my early talker DS2, who used sentences at 18 months, was not saying any words before 10-12 months!

Melly, K is very cheeky and cute!

Hi to everyone else, will try and rejoin and keep up again, have really missed you all .

Caz10 · 14/09/2008 21:37

Wow well done Clara!

Just a quicky to say I finally looked in red book - dd is 9th dec so very close to yours, and I reckon roughly she is 39 weeks (which I guess would make sense - isn't that funny, they've been with us now for almost as long as we cooked them for! )

So at 39 weeks, the 50th percentile is 8.5kg or 18lbs 11oz

think you said your dd was around 20lbs? that would put her around about the 75th.

No idea where my dd is but will find out in 3 weeks time at her 8mth check when she is 10mths...!

Hi to all!

becklespeckle · 14/09/2008 22:06

Added a couple of new photos too...

BouncingTurtle · 14/09/2008 22:16

Great pix Beckle!

becklespeckle · 15/09/2008 14:55

Thanks BT!

mellymooks · 15/09/2008 16:18

Ahhhhh Beckle she is gorgeous!!
Lovely to be back in the loop hearing about how everything is going.
K started crawling at 6 months and now at 9 months is standing and taking a few steps round the furniture, she's frighteningly good at climbing and sussed our stairs in one afternoon!
No where is safe and she can get to places you just think she wouldn't be able to! She's very tall (her Daddy is 6ft 4) and when she tiptoes there is no surface she can't quite reach in our living room, we need to build shelves high around our room!

skidaddle · 16/09/2008 16:18

wow it's quiet on here these days - where are you all - hovering over your newly standing babies in case they fall perhaps?

beckle - oh no, what a nightmare re BF/bottles - hope you get it sorted soon. Is she teething or anything? I find DS will only be soothed by a BF when teething/grumpy which has been a lot lately as i realised he now has SIX teeth all coming through together!

Evie is gorgeous btw - as if you didn't know!

clara - wow - do you remember how we briefly thought we might be the same person due to both our DH's being bald, both reading the same book and other spooky coincidences ? Well maybe our DC are also the same person because DS also took exactly two independent steps when he was 9 months and 1 day old and hasn't done anything since - what do you reckon? Milo still can't crawl though and hasn't Martha been crawling since she was about 2 weeks old so maybe not...

Hi everyone else

claireybee · 16/09/2008 20:48

Just caught up on everyone's pictures, what gorgeous babies we all have

I'm just amazed at all these teeth everyone seems to have, ds seems to be cutting his first one but I'm not holding my breath.

Beckle oh no! Must be so hard having a deadline on her taking bottles again...hopefully she will when you aren't around. DD refused a bottle for a while and finally took it lying down on her changing mat-could be worth trying some different places/positions. We've been giving ds a cup more recently and he does drink a little bit but mainly just plays with it and tips it everywhere.

BouncingTurtle · 16/09/2008 21:08

Clairey - ds is a late teether, he has a top incisor poking out, I think he might be cutting a 2nd top incisor and I also think I spotted a little bit of white on his bottom gum too!

Beckle - do you really have to give up bfing on your return? I drop ds at nursery at 7.45am, and pick him up at 5pm. I feed him around 7am and at nursery when I pick him up, he doesn't have any milk at nursery as he won't take a bottle and barely touched it when offered it in a cup. I expressed for the first week and gave up as it was pointless I got so little out! Have not needed to express at all for comfort during the week (I work M-F) and I don't seem to have a problem feeding him during the day at weekends. Hope this helps you.

Caz10 · 16/09/2008 22:27

Oh crossed posts with you the other night beckle!

can fully sympathise re bottle refusing, we finally cracked it (almost - she sometimes still refuses) with fast flow teats (mothercare nuby ones) i think because she is not "sucking" iyswim, just tipping it down like from a cup.

Would also 2nd BT re bf-ing, although I am expressing most days but literally for 5 mins altogether, more to ease the pressure than to collect milk. No problems feeding other times/weekends so far...

cazzybabs · 16/09/2008 22:31

Haven't been on for ages haven't read other posts...

caz and who ever else was asking - I espress about 5oz for dd ih the morning whilst I feed her from other side, then feed her when I get home (most of the evening as it seems from about 6-9ish) and on demand at the w/e - all seems fine!

She took her 1st step today twice ...just one food but it was a step.

Then she went to bed and dd1 threw upevery where typcially as dh is out drinking mind oyu at least it when he is here rather than next week when he is away.

cazzybabs · 16/09/2008 22:33

foot not food not holding on to anything

cazzybabs · 16/09/2008 22:35

oh bugger - she was not the 1st to walk then...and is older - she is 9 months and 2 days

becklespeckle · 16/09/2008 23:30

Thanks for your advice and support guys re bottles and thanks for those of you who liked my pics, I am really really pleased with them !

Melly, omg on K learning the stairs so fast! Evie has not shown much interest yet thankfully but like K she is tall (DH 6ft 7 although I am a shortie) and can even reach the dining table now - she's into everything (but always looks so pleased with herself I can't be cross)!

Skid, I think she is possibly getting her back teeth as there's a little blister on part of her gum but don't think teething is affecting her bottle-taking, she already has all the 8 front teeth!

Clairey, I might get DH to try her cup instead of a bottle, he tried a doidy cup last night but she just pushed that away. TBH I think it is the milk she has taken offence to anyway, I can't express though so that's a bit of a pain. DH wants me to give her cow's milk but I am not prepared to do that yet!

BT, I don't have to give up when I go back to work as it is only 2 evenings a week but I only planned to feed for 6 months originally and TBH I feel ready to stop now. I feel really selfish as I have no good reason to stop and although I know DH would like me to stop, he has said it is fine by him if I continue (he says he has the rest of our lives to have me to himself - bless). I think I will keep on feeding her in the daytime and let him keep trying her at night and see if we can crack it. I hate the thought of her going to bed on an empty stomach (plus she was up all night hungry last night...I don't do well on no sleep!)

Caz, I might try a tippy cup so she doesn't have to suck at all and see if that works, might try changing the milk too - did you know Aptamil has fish oils in it? As a life-long vegetarian I am quite horrified that I have tried it! How is work going for you?

Cazzy, yay for your Evie stepping! That is quite an achievement at 9 months!

Louise76 · 17/09/2008 09:18

Hello

Just a quickie as I think dd is waking up from her nap.

Was looking at your new photos beckle and melly - what a couple of little cuties!!

cazzy and clara - wow! walking already. My dd is still trying to pluck up the courage to crawl. She is nearly there!

Quick question for those of you who are bottle feeding (reading the last few posts I think it might just be me - do you think i should start giving dd her milk from a cup rather than a bottle? A few of the books etc that I have read seem to suggest that I should be trying to move away from a bottle. As usual I am clueless about these sort of things!!

suey2 · 17/09/2008 14:11

hi all,
another stair climber here! No steps yet, but can stand up without pulling on anything and balance for half a minute or so: yesterday whilst banging a tambourine!

No teeth yet, but she has been stroppier than usual for the last few days, so we'll see.

fifisboys · 17/09/2008 15:26

Hi everyone..we are back from an amazing holiday
Ethan coped with the flight and heat fine. Still no crawling..am i the only one with a non-mobile baby??
Anyway will try and catch up a bit later, hope you are all well!

mellymooks · 17/09/2008 19:59

Hello folks,

Feel very reassured reading all your posts about bottle refusal and managing to carry on feeding etc. I've got a month til I go back to work so we've been trying (in vain) to get K interested in something other than me, but having heard how the rest of you are doing I'm not so concerned now. She can last a long time without boob, as last week I left her with my MIL, I had expressed some incase she wanted it, but I was gone for 6 hrs and when offered my milk wasn't interested at all!
I'm more worried as I am on a waiting list for an operation which is likely to be November time and for 8 weeks after I'm not allowed to lift anything including Kaesha......so I'm not sure if I'll be able to bf her then either I don't want the op to decide for me that I have to stop, I want to decide when I'm ready - to be honest never really expected to feed for this long, but I love it and don't feel ready to stop yet.
Sorry for rambling!!

Mellymooks Jumping in on the end of a thread when you're not read owt else is a danger I know but just wanted to encourage you. DD refused bottle to the point of vomiting copiously for months so we gave up. Had always tried bottle at bedtime feed but thought I'd give the morning one a go instead and it seemed to work lots better. There are still feeds when she won't take a thing but I figure that at this point she's probably getting a reasonable amount of nourishment from food so I don't worry too much. Dunno if that helps.

Also - anyone else out there for who this is their 2nd/3rd lo and seems to remember dc1 doing things a bit better, faster, earlier? Am I desperately understimulating dc2?

macdoodle · 17/09/2008 21:31

DD2 definitely not doing things as "early" as DD1 - but she is calmer, more placid and MUCH fatter - also she has her big sis carrying and fetching and I guess yes I just don't have the time to stimulate her as much - also her big sis was in full time nursery from 4 months so she had to kinda sink or swim (she swum like a little fishie ....find I am much less bothered this time though and quite happy for my baby to stay as a baby (as she is almost certainly my last )She is a dream baby this one - my DD1 is a love but shall we say "demanding" of time and attention ...DD2 is just much more laid back and a very easy baby
