Ha!

Oh ho ho at magic painting not requiring much supervision, and it being just a pot of water. We've had magic painting books for a while, and believe me, dd can make a mess from nothing!
Liking the replica dd idea though. Dd likes me drawing round her feet with her aquadraw, so I can see that that would go down very well.

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/08/2008 20:38

Yes coming Tuesday. DD said today that we're coming to see L and B last week - methinks she's not quite sussed the diff between next and last yet! Happy to do anything that confines dd to not being able to tear away from me .

EachPeachPearMum · 14/08/2008 20:51

aquadraw+feet=squealy dd- v.v.tickly

mustrunmore · 15/08/2008 08:15

Er, ok. So lets just lock them all in the empty spare room and do a runner

Phoenix · 15/08/2008 20:27

What's happening to this thread? Where are you all?

Whenever someone is here i'm not .

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2008 20:33

Hi Phoenix. I've just arrived .

Copied and pasted this from ante-natal..

Returned home today, to find that I have no conservatory and only 3/4 of a living room as expected, but I also couldn't get on the drive for wood/skips/tiles, there was dust and dirt everywhere (also somewhat expected), but there were no builders working on the house, dust sheets all over the floor, the loft ladders were down (making it hard to get to my bedroom), there were 3 saws lying around, electrical cables dangling over the stairs etc etc. And then to cap it all off the range no longer works, and this does all of our hot water, heating and cooking!
After a few phone calls and a visit from the main builder (who only got off a plane from his holiday this afternoon) we have got the immersion working for water, I've had a toaster and microwave dinner, and the builders/plumbers will try to fix things properly on Monday. We thought we'd lost £700 of oil from the tank, but it seems that they did realise at some point that they'd nicked the oil pipe whilst digging foundations, so turned off the supply from the tank. Means we've lost some, but apparently not the whole lot. May mean an air blockage that will require a specialist to fix it next week, but we won't know until they've fixed the pipe.
Had to deal with all this whilst also entertaining dd and trying to unpack (car is still half full!), so asked a friend round to keep me sane, with a dd to occupy dd. Friend's dd managed to wee over living room within minutes of arriving, and then dd had a wee and a poo on her bedroom floor! First poo accident since potty training began, so a bit frustrating when we thought we had it all sussed.

Sorry for self-indulgent and very boring rant!

Phoenix · 15/08/2008 20:42

Oh dear, not the best day then.

I wish ds would suss potty training. I've made him a reward chart and everything but he's having none of it. We've even bought 'big boy nappies' (pull-ups) and he's cried for 2 days at every nappy change that he wants green nappies (pampers baby dry) He's getting used to them a bit now though but he won't go nappy free or with pants.

EachPeachPearMum · 15/08/2008 20:50

Oh CSWS- what a crappy day!
Sounds like DD was marking her territory on her return...
I take it you won't be recommending these builders to anyone else?

Phoenix- where have you been? Camping?

Anyone heard from Dame recently? Wondered how DS's referral had gone...

mustrunmore · 15/08/2008 20:53

I'm hereish. Took 4 hours to do a 13page job application form, and another almost 2hours to rewrite my cv todasy On the plus side, after dh had a nightmare trying to organise himself and 2 kids to go to the park (think shouting swearing ranting threatening forgetting picnic etc etc), he did manage to stay out 3.5 hours so I had some peace to concentrate!

Phoenix · 15/08/2008 21:08

I wish EPPM, just not really been online much

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2008 21:20

Actually I would recommend them EPPM! The main man had been on holiday, and the guy who was supposed to be here today had knackered his back, hence his absence. But they responded quickly when I called, and when we thought that the whole tank of oil had gone he accepted that he would have to pay for it, and rang around all of his team to get some answers.
It just obviously wasn't what I wanted to return to at 7.5 months pregnant with no dh here or contactable (been on plane all day).
Feeling calmer now though - have one clean kitchen surface and a freshly scooba-ed floor, and have booked to vanish to get my eyebrows done in the morning before a herdful of friends turn up for a barbecue! Which reminds me, must go stick chicken in to marinate before the gymnastics starts.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2008 21:39

Ouch - hands now stinging from squeezing lemons!

Frizbe · 16/08/2008 10:37

CSWS at the state of your house, and are you mad having lots of people around for a BBQ when you have the builders in????

Jas, it just dawned on me you were on about the keyboard glad you've got a new one now. Hope you get the cash sorted for the holidays.....

MRM a 13 page application, what on earth is that for? special branch?

Flame, at mil getting radio therapy and not telling you or your dh {{{{hugs}}} to you both, hope you get the full story soon and that the treatment works.

Hi EPPM and Phoenix and anyone else whose about, dh is in Wales now for the week, so I'll be around a bit more!
We had bad news last week, dh's last remaining auntie has breast cancer, so my girls will have to get genetically tested, as that's all the females on both his dad's and his mums side who have died of cancer mainly breast. Still at least we know to try and prevent.

Jas · 16/08/2008 11:04

Flame - Hope things are getting better for you and yours....Does dh have the pox too?

EPPM - Yes just petrol, food and spending, so could be worse. I really regret not refusing when it was originally suggested, but I'm sure once we get away it will be good.
Gunpowder Mills is local tourist attraction Used to be a top secret gunpowder production place, but was derelict for a long time and is now an odd mixture of nature reserve, museum and historical re enactor place.

CSWS - I'm quite impressed all your building probs are being dealt with so quickly. Shame you had to come home to it though. I hope you have a nice day with your hoards today.

Frizbe, Phoenix, mrm

DS is now using a potty when at home and naked, but doesn't tell me when he needs to go, and tries to pick up and empty filled potty himself so very slow progress really. I'm not actually going to try and do real potty training for a long time yet, just letting him get used tio the idea for now.

FamilyRant · 16/08/2008 17:31

It gets more odd... go look under this name in chat

Jas · 17/08/2008 13:15

I did look, but didn't post and have now lost the thread....I'm also very lucky to have (what I consider to be) a very normal, loving family but have come to realise that lots, if not most of the adults I know have very different relationships with theirs.

Between my bf, and dps families, everything in your thread would be considered not at all unusual!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/08/2008 08:03

Aaaaaaaarrrggghhh - rain flooding into utility room now. Might have destroyed posh iron.

Jas · 18/08/2008 08:10

Oh, no. Surely they should have left you rainproof??

Phoenix · 18/08/2008 12:18

Aarrgghh for you csws, it brings back memories of our leaking roof last year. We still get so freaked out when it rains in case it leaks again. It shouldn't though cos its obviously done now but we still panic in heavy rain.

Frizbe · 18/08/2008 16:56

Oh no csws have you managed to rescue the room from the rain?

Off to look for family rant....

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/08/2008 20:38

Room rescued from rain (we hope!) by builders.
Also got oil pipe fixed early evening, so managed decent bath with dd tonight.

Apols for another copy and paste from ante-natal below...

Shocking day here, culminating in me sprinting for my half full shopping trolley down a hill in Tesco's car park, desperately trying to stop it from hitting a person or car (it had gone 30 yds before I realised). Amazingly I managed to catch it, but doing so hurt me lots, and my groin hasn't recovered yet. Was probably just the push that SPD needed to kick in this time round.

Other great news is that baby is breech again. I thought he had turned a couple of days ago, and midwife confirmed this today. Not good at nearly 34 weeks.

Ladies - based on the state of the house at the moment I think it might be best if we postponed our September meet up. Could we make it something to look forward to early in the new year instead? It's a real shame as I was looking forward to seeing everyone again, but my stress levels are through the roof with the mess at the moment, and it would be much nicer to show off the finished article to you all rather than look at wooden walls barricading all the windows!

Jas · 18/08/2008 20:48

CSWS - I wouldn't want to do anything to make life harder for you at the moment. Next year sounds like a great idea.
Is the iron ok?

DS is going to look like a retired boxer by the time he reaches school I think.... He has a cut on his eye (fell over at the hairdressers waiting for dd1), a possibly broken nose (no idea how he did it, but it is reasonably straight so we're not doing anything about it) and a fat lip (walked into a plant pot)

He has gone to bed in pyjamas for the first time tonight. I've been having to put a vest on top of his sleepsuit to stop him undoing it, but he is getting it all off now so I'm hoping postman pat pjs will stay on.

EachPeachPearMum · 18/08/2008 20:55

csws for rain in house. But 'iron'??? I thought you sent it out?

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/08/2008 21:01

Ah, you came along after my famous iron EPPM . £200 on a fancy steam generator one. Dh made sure he did enough to cover the cost. It broke (inside warranty and again outside). We discovered from Which? that it wasn't known for it's longevity, and bought another one which they do recommend. Again dh had to iron enough to cover the cost .

Ouch for ds Jas. Is he bothered? Dd bashes her knees and toes regularly, but still ignores me when I tell her to keep her shoes on .

Jas · 18/08/2008 21:25

He has cried when injuries have involved bleeding, but not for long, and is not worried enough to stop climbing!
