Sorry but I'm giggling at sweep descriptions. My friend once described it as a spit and polish!

Not posting much, but I am keeping an eye out for labour news csws

FIL has finally left. If he'd stayed any longer I think dp would've kicked him out, and I was running out of places to go to stay out, so I'm more than a little relieved.
He'll be back next month and I'm already hoping I can move ds into his cot and tell fil we don't have the space for him to stay

Frizbe · 28/09/2008 21:19

Spit and polish that is funny

Re the butler, yes they had two at 'BIG' Asda at Derby, but neither kid was bothered, too many scarey larpers have totally sorted them over that one, the only thing that bothered dd2 was the yellow eyes on the floor, but once I equiped her with a sword, she just went around poking them

Not much happened here this weekend. dd1 had total meltdown yesterday afternoon, mega tired due to having been at school for 3 weeks I reckon, a random survey of other mums, has confirmed we've all had crabby kids this weekend. Watched a friends team play volleyball at our local gym for a bit today, till the girls got bored. She came over for a cuppa after the match, so we caught up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/09/2008 21:25

Ooh Jas - question for you. Am I right in thinking that the farm that you go to is literally just around the corner from you, or is it in Fishers Green?

Jas · 28/09/2008 21:26

Umm, too far to walk, but still very close. I think I may drive past fishers green on the way....I'll check.

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/09/2008 21:28

I'm asking because the in-laws took dd to one in Fishers Green today, and dh and I were arguing about discussing whether it was the one that you go to or not.

Jas · 28/09/2008 21:35

It will be the same one, I think.....nice play area, with tractors, and a short walk to see the cows being milked?
I think it is called Lee Valley Park Farm now.

Frizbe · 28/09/2008 21:39

Ah now I've been to Lee Valley Ice Rink, is it anywhere near there?

Jas · 28/09/2008 21:43

Not really. The Lee Valley goes from London out to Essex. The ice rink is at the Londonish end, I'm at the Essex end.

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/09/2008 21:50

Dunno - wasn't there!
There are 2 farms next door to each other - is that right? Dh reckons it was that one. All I know is that dd was playing on a combine harvester!

Frizbe · 28/09/2008 21:56

ah well its been a long time since I went to London last CSWS's is the nearest I've been in years!

EachPeachPearMum · 28/09/2008 22:50

Ok, but wth do they need to do 'sweeping' then?

Flamesparrow · 29/09/2008 07:22

Sweeping sort of kick starts it all if you're about ready to pop anyway. If you ain't ready though, it won't do a lot. Where it takes bloody hours of contractions for me to be even the slightest bit effaced, there isn't much point in doing it to me - just uncomfortable for nothing

OP posts:
Jas · 29/09/2008 07:27

That's it csws

Not sure why they bother with sweeping tbh. I reckon it is just to make very pg people who have had enough feel like ±something is being done to speed things up! Didn't make any difference at all for me.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/09/2008 07:39

There was a thread recently suggesting that sweeps are more effective for 2nd/subsequent labours than for first, but agree that if you're not ready then it will make bugger all difference!
I figure that at least if she's having a rummage she can see how ripe and ready I look, and it wasn't even uncomfortable last time, let alone hurty. And def preferable to being properly induced next Monday, which is my only option if things don't kick off this week.

EachPeachPearMum · 29/09/2008 08:54

I thought your due date was 1st? Is early induction because of GD?
Tbh, my memories of midwife rummaging around up there are so painful, I'd rather keep the baby IN

Phoenix · 29/09/2008 10:31

I had a sweep when i was 7 days over with ds, i started having some pains that night (tuesday) which wore off in the early hours but came back later in the day. I went into hospital that night (wednesday) and had ds the next day by (thursday) emergency c-section in the end .

I got my new phone.

Frizbe · 29/09/2008 19:33

I had sweep with dd2, and 24 hrs later there she was, although to be fair I kicked off into labour at 2am bang on the 5 days over mark, same as I did with dd1, and dd2 was born only 1 hr later (water slowed it down a bit apparently) and thus it may not have been the sweep, just nature taking its course! which reminds me, CSWS please email me your home address!

Frizbe · 29/09/2008 19:36

oh btw has anyone taken the car train down to the south of france at all? as dh and I took the plunge today and booked a siblu site for next spring bank hols (cheaper than the uk caravan we had to opt out of this year!) and then dh got all arsey about budget airlines and said we were going to drive (read me, he had a panic in USA, lord knows what he'd be like in france) so I thought the car train thing overnight might be an option? anyway for holiday being booked, fingers x'd it doesn't rain now!

EachPeachPearMum · 29/09/2008 19:45

eek- Friz- it is really expensive- ferry or train if you're going in summer.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/09/2008 19:59

Which site have you booked Friz? We did La Reserve last year, and thought it was great.

Frizbe · 29/09/2008 20:14

Have booked la baume going to be a sod to drive to though (dear Santa, please can we have two more ds lites and an in car dvd player please)
EPPM I've just found a fab thread on driving to South of France and that has put me off getting the motor rail, unless we end up really pushed for time. We only have a week, but I've asked ss's mum for us to have him on the Friday, so in theory we can book crossing on Fri am, then maybe overnight it somewhere, and do same on way back too, hopefully! Now fingers very x'd that we manage to keep our new staff that start next week, so we can holiday as planned next year!

Frizbe · 29/09/2008 20:17

CSWS that site looks lovely too, I can't belive how cheap the caravans seem in comparision to the uk ones, am so looking forward to this holiday now

Jas · 29/09/2008 22:23

It took us 12 hours door to door driving to Brittany this year Frizbe! That is the reason we won't be going again.

We've driven to Geneva a few times, and motorway all the way is my advice (unless you have sat nav which we don't) Trying to follow direction/read maps/roadsigns and repeatedly getting lost the first time we went almost resulted in murder. One of the worst days ever was when we went the first time, thinking it would be nice to avoid toll roads and go the scenic rout. After about 4 hours and less than 100km in the right direction, we joined the motorway and saved our relationship.

You'll have a great time once you get there though Apparently the Aire/ hotel stop places are ok and really good value if you want to break up the drive.

(We also tried doing it overnight, but only a good idea if you have someone there to entertain the children once you arrive and are too tired to sit up any more)

You can use tesco vouchers to take the car on Eurotunnel

CaptainNancy · 29/09/2008 22:27

Haha- Friz- I was just going to link to that thread, as I've just seen it!

EachPeachPearMum · 29/09/2008 22:28

b*gger , 'twas I, LeClere!
