Phoenix · 04/09/2008 22:02

Hi

All my friends used to tell me 'boys are lazy, he'll talk when he's ready' and because he understood i was never really worried about him talking. We can hold conversations with him now

Phoenix · 04/09/2008 22:05

Goodnight

Dh has just gone to bed, he's up for work at 4am. Ds wasn't far behind him this morning either so i hope he decides to sleep a bit longer tomorrow.

Jas · 04/09/2008 22:06

G'night csws.

Yes, I can (sort of) have a convo with ds now. The speech therapist did say it was nice to see him as it reminded her that lots of children do just pick it all up and develop on their own when they are readyShe even said his vocab was above expected for his age in some areas[smug]

Phoenix · 04/09/2008 22:10

That's good to hear isn't it

My mumsnet is very slow tonight, i've re-started my laptop twice thinking it's me but other sites are ok

Jas · 04/09/2008 22:28

No. Tis really slow for me, too.
Going to go and check my village on Travian, then go to bed.

NN

Phoenix · 04/09/2008 22:32

Goodnight

Flamesparrow · 04/09/2008 22:37

DS appears to be behind on his speech He talks, but none of it much is clear compared to friends iyswim. I only realised when I was thinking about how much DD was speaking at this age (and she was behind...)

Urgh. Why is nothing easy?

Jas - I have a proper leather harness thing to try Cargirl has offered me the clip thing, but I can see him just wriggling it - there is not much difference between that and what DH made.

My day was much more than just the car seat though - there is a thread in chat somewhere with a title about day from hell I am much calmer - have had a glass of wine, laughed at buzzcocks, going to sleep and hope for an easier tomorrow!

OP posts:
Jas · 05/09/2008 16:04

Yay! for getting a proper harness to try. Do ytou get to keep it if it works?
I hope you had a better day today.

Did he get a development check at 2 ish?
I know ds is not as developed as lots of the children I know his age wrt speech, but seeing the SALT reassured me that he is doing ok.
She reckoned some babbling, unclear words etc was still acceptably within normal range.

EachPeachPearMum · 05/09/2008 16:45

Flame- DD was saying loads, but only started to become clear to other people in the last couple of months. I think because we're with them all the time, we don't notice and just accommodate their pronunciation IYSWIM.

Don't language specialists say '2 words at 2' ie they should be able to join 2 words together at age 2 (ie 2-3 yrs). My friend didn't speak at all until he was 5- you wouldn't know now.

Flamesparrow · 05/09/2008 17:27

I thougth I'd ask nursery on Weds about his speech - they'll know

I am organising the xmas meet up btw... go sign up in chat!

EachPeachPearMum · 05/09/2008 18:19

How on earth do you have time?

Flamesparrow · 05/09/2008 18:21

Not sure I do

I'm going with the theory that it is just like taking money for nappy orders , I think we have found a venue, and I am more harsh than usual organisers where I am not pissing about for weeks about the pros and cons of 10 diff dates and venues.

If it will fit us and is affordable, then pretty much it wins

Jas · 06/09/2008 16:08

You are mad Flame

MRM - How's the foot?

mustrunmore · 06/09/2008 16:52

So, proof of sentience...
ds1 calls ds2 an animal . Ds2 says 'my not animal, my baby brambles', whilst crying and looking heartbroken

Asked ds1 what h wanted to do today; pretty much choice of anything except parks as too rainy... 'can I go in the creche at Ikea please?'

Foot is much improved thanks. Stitches out on 17th. Only the actual stitch area hurts now, not the whole foot anymore, so am only taking a painkiller if I've been on the go for a long time etc. But, I still cant wear falt shoes./ Am very worried bout getting trainers on for my 5km tomorrow Can wear heels, but not wellies or flats.

Jas · 06/09/2008 17:43

That is a 6 word sentence! As good as anything ds can manage (and possibly more tbh)

Are you going to be using crutches for the 5k thing? If so, I assume yopu aren;t going for speed, and maybe wearing what is comfortable (even if that is heels) would be better than trainers you can't walk in....

Phoenix · 06/09/2008 18:04

Lol mrm, Lew asks to go to Ikea every day because my parents took him and got him an ice cream on the way out so now he thinks Ikea is just for ice creams, he's never been in the creche

EachPeachPearMum · 06/09/2008 20:45

Funny, we were thinking of doing an Ikea run today too! Think we may go tomorrow...

mrm- bless him 'baby brambles' I assume this is your nn for him?

I wish this flaming rain would stop It has been torrential, all night and all day again here. Can't get any washing dry- had to put the heating on for an hour earlier... well its cold too!

Jas · 06/09/2008 20:59
Grin
mustrunmore · 06/09/2008 21:38

Phoenix, you have to be 3 to go in the creche . Ds2 was gutted when ds1 went in but cheered up bouncing on beds!

EPPM, we used to call him that. then we all stopped, but now he uses it for himself if he's tired or upset, often like a question for xcomfort (like 'am i stil lyour baby?')

Jas · 06/09/2008 21:50

I still think of him as baby Brambles.

EachPeachPearMum · 06/09/2008 21:56

Hmm, DD keeps saying 'I'm a baby' too- usually just after we've been talking about the baby thats arriving after christmas, bless her. When I say to her she'll still be our baby even when she's as big as mummy, she just sort of smiles patronisingly at me. I'm sure she'd pat me on the head too if she could

mustrunmore · 06/09/2008 22:01

hell be a baby till e cut off his blondy hair!

Phoenix · 06/09/2008 22:37

If i say to ds 'are you my baby?' He says 'no mummy.' But if we say 'big boys don't have dummy's' or 'big boys don't wear nappies' he says 'i a baby' . And he's always a baby when he's tired or upset.

Our niece (6) and nephew (4) still call him baby Lewis

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/09/2008 09:02

Good luck if you're mad enough to still be doing the 5k today mrm!

Frizbe · 07/09/2008 12:09

Where the hell did Busty come from Jas and here I am having spent some of the morning telling dd1 I don't have fat boobs, just normal ones Did you have a good hols?

MRM you looney, I'm imaginging you hopping the 5k this am. I know we need to open in North London working on it girl!

Thanks for the thread link Phoenix, got very wet up your way in the playground on friday waiting for ss, only stood there for 5 mins max whilst they all poured out the doors, soaked down one side, even with raincoat on

CSWS how's the roof/tarp holding up under the extra rain? glad your scan ok

EPPM, sorry about your sonographer not tellig you the sex I agree that on your 2nd child it really helps to know, certainly did here, as I kept all of dd1's kit rather than selling it/passing it onto others who needed it.

Flame, you getting lots of practise in then

Have all your elder kids all started school yet then? dd1 starts tomorrow, have just gone thru all her clothes, labelled it all, done P.E. bag, and lunch, fruit and French money.....OMG my 1st born is going to be a BIG GIRL SS is having to go back on Sunday nights as of today, as we can't be in two places at once when there so far apart for ss, but he's 10, so understands I hope.
