July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

minipinkscottish · 14/07/2008 17:04

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

EEC - you have made me want cereal for supper - yum! Going to have a bowl before I go to bed; I usually go to bed about 10:30pm to get a couple of hours in before Poppy wakes.

SK - sorry to hear B isn't happy today. It is tough when you have others to see to. Poppy had to cry while I did DS1's excema creams after his bath.

Pigley - I tried to photograph Poppy's feet today, but the little madam kept moving them out of shot!

Minkus · 26/08/2008 06:58

Morning all

I have realised that Louis is an early waker

Empathy with you all still not getting sleep, he's up every 2 hrs still and the early mornings he seems to favour start at about 5- think he's just about to go back to sleep now.

We bought a lovely new memory foam mattress topper and 400 count bed linen yesterday though so at least when I'm in bed the darned thing is beautifully comfy!

Rumpel- totally with you aboutfeeling unattractive, logically I know that i should be kind to myself, he's only 7 weeks old so my body is still recovering but inside I really feelmy confidence has taken a knock. Doesnt help that with ds1 i was 1/2 a stone lighter when i gave birth than when i got pregnant (hyperemesis too with him) so feel huuuge in comparison.

minipinkscottish · 26/08/2008 13:22

Hi all!!

Just got back from collecting ds2 from school and will have to take him to docs at 2.30pm. He has a terrible sore throat and has come out in a rash Hope it isn't anything that they are all going to get

Anyway Abbie is now 10lb 4 oz!!

Hi all,

Minipink- Hope DS2 is ok.

Minkus- We have a memory foam mattress- they are sooo comfy!

Well ive been researching and theres an NCT group that gets together on a thursday morning here so might bite the bullet and go along.

Took more photos of Abigail and us and have added them on facebook. I have friends wanting me to photograph thier kids now-- could be my new venture as i dont intend on going back to work

minipinkscottish · 26/08/2008 16:21

omg back from docs and ds2 has scarlet fever!!!!! He has 250mg of penicillan, 2 tabs 4 times a day for 2 weeks Doc says it is not as bad as it used to be as the strain seems to have become less virelent(sp?) over the years but it's still scarey.....web site I looked at said highly contagious and not to share towels etc....hard in this house when there is 8 of us!!!! Now he is really pissed off at me for confining him to his room for a couple of days....14 and grounded ....never going to be easy

pigley - you go for it and get out there I'm sure the group on thursday will be good xx oh and meant to say photos are beautiful and so is Abigailxx

mcchesers · 26/08/2008 16:25

go Pigley! You will feel better getting out and I do hope you do baby photos..you've got some real talent.

So Aidan slept from 10:20-3am and then on to 8am! My Dh was late for work

I actually went out last night for the first time and came back with monster rock hard boobs. So I expressed and stuck a bottle in the fridge. My doula was over today and told me about a milk bank where I could donate my milk. I figured hey..we're lucky, our kid is big and healthy and breastfeeding is established ...some families aren't nearly so lucky. If I can help, I might as well. I called the hospital just there and they will email me with the info. I'm really excited about doing this. Imagine your milky goodness could save lots of little lives

pigleychez · 26/08/2008 16:29

Minipink-
I had Scarlet fever a few years back. It was horrible and i felt sooo rough so my sympathes to your DS!
Took me weeks to get back to full strength again and had to do half days at work as full days were too much for me.

Hope the antibiotics help

mcchesers · 26/08/2008 16:50

oh no minipink! Fingers crossed for you that it goes quickly..it's not a nice thing to deal with at all. big hugs to you x

mummy2bsoon · 26/08/2008 17:05

quick msg, leah is 4weeks old, since last night 1am, she has bn a nutter, crying, hardly settling im starting to think she is colic...

help.........

im so sleepy....

mcchesers · 26/08/2008 17:24

mummy2bsoon - mine went through this as well. took him till 6 weeks to relax. things are much better now. As long as you have wet/dirty nappies and baby is fed and winded..you've done what you can. Maybe check with NHS24 and make sure she is ok. just a thought. hang in there it's hard going sometimes.

minkus - your bed sounds loovely

mummy2bsoon · 26/08/2008 17:26

i dunno if she is colic...

thanx macchesers

she was reali gud until lastnight

pigleychez · 26/08/2008 17:36

Quick question about Gripe water/ Infacol

Abigail has had trouble bringing up her wind lately no matter how hard/long we try so Ive bought some Infacol today which im going to try out.

Reading online people have said about adding the gripe water to thier feed(if bottle feeding). As im expressing her feeds should i add it to the bottle of milk or give it to her before?

What does everyone else do?

sweetkitty · 26/08/2008 17:37

Quick one from me too, B has been making up for yesterday and has slept most of today only waking up every 3 hours or so for a feed then back to sleep she seems more contented today too, her acne seems to have calmed down and looks red and dry now instead of the raw spots she had before.

mummy2bsoon - sounds normal to me sometimes they just have rough nights unfortunately, can someone else take her for a bit today to let you catch up on some sleep?

mcchesers - I have always thought of the idea of donating milk but like everything else can't find the time. Good on you though

minkus - your bed sounds lovely we have a memory foam mattress too (that is now decorated with a few reminders of B's birth!) My sheets are always covered in milk even though I sleep on a muslin as well.

minipink - aww your poor wee DS scarlet fever is not nice hope he perks up soon, oops just realised he's 14 not so wee then. I take it he is off school too.

pigley - will check out your photos later, I love taking photos with DD2 I took loads and printed them all off had loads of the same pic have calmed down a bit now. I need to print out some more and redo my frames in the lounge as DD2 isn't walking in most of them.

mummy2bsoon · 26/08/2008 18:40

hah i have milk on sheets tooooooo!

no1 can take her dh at work, mil will tell; the world i cnt cope, so its jus us!

hopefully she will sleep tonite...

isaidno · 26/08/2008 20:04

pigley - infacol - you give that before each feed, whether from boob or bottle - it has a cumulative effect so you won't notice much difference for a few days. (I thought it was rubbish!)
Gripe water - I used to give it after the feed if baby was struggling with wind. Usually produces a big burp very quickly. (I found it great with ds1.)

Minipink - hope your ds gets well soon xx

Poppy in bed; she's got a big day tomorrow - injections, followed by bowling annd lunch out.

Peanut73 · 26/08/2008 22:40

Hello everybody. Just watching a piece on the news about the wee premature baby Dylan and the photo his parents took of his arm reaching out to them from the incubator. Brought a tear to my eye as I remembered Charlie like that. You will be pleased to hear that Charlie is now 12lb 4oz at 7 weeks adjusted age (13 weeks chronological age).

McCheesers - at your MIL. I'm not surprised you feel as you do. It makes you lose confidence and trust in her. Just reassert yourself; you are Mum and know what's best.

Minipink - glad to hear your baby massage class went well. Sorry to hear about DS's scarlet fever though! Hope he gets better soon. Also, good for you going for the NCT class.

Pigley - I hope you look up your local NCT class. They're fab! Our local one connects us via email and we all email each other suggesting when and where to meet up. Dont' worry - you will have so much more in common with these women than you might think, personally I can talk about babies until the cows come home. That may change soon, but for the time being...

Rumpel - thanks for asking after us. Calvin is doing so amazingly well! 11lb 8oz adn 58 cm!! Well done you! Also - be careful with your sit-ups. I feel the same way about myself appearance/fitness wise, but was told that sit-ups are a no-no post-natally.

Regarding fitness - I have just joined 'Pushy Mothers'. Went to a class last Friday and it was so fun and really effective. Would highly recommend it if you have a class near you!

Notanotter - sorry to hear about your mastitis. I hear it's really debilitating thing so thinking of you and hope you are being given some p&q.

SK - wishing Bethany a speedy recovery from her cold. Also thinking of your back with all that carrying...

Hope everyone else is well.
xx

JacobsPrincess · 27/08/2008 10:54

Pigley, Infacol takes a few feeds to get working and IMO works best with bottle fed babies (like DS1). Doesn't seem to do much for DS2 on the breast. We used gripe water for the first time with Dewi the other evening and it worked a treat, really calming for his little tummy.
No relations here, much to DH disappointment. I can't summon the energy, and still a little concerned about my undercarriage; stitches have healed very quickly but feel in an odd position. I had episiotomy with DS1, and then tore that scar tissue with Dewi (2nd degree tear). Like I said, stitches have healed but my perineum feels much lower down. Is this normal after a couple of rounds of stitches, or has the Dr buggered it up? Fanjo doesn't seem tighter or smaller, but don't want to risk relations in case something breaks!!

min912 · 27/08/2008 11:33

Can't believe Poppy is a month old today... where did the time go??! Baby acne in full effect here too...

I'm debating going to the breastfeeding clinic at the hospital tomorrow just to check the latch - she does seem to be in real pain with trapped wind so I'm wondering if she's taking too much air?? The nurse from the gp surgery came over yesterday to weigh her and took the 'she's putting on weight so she's fine' approach, while she screamed and screamed and then pooped on the lounge rug.. nice. (Poppy, not the nurse!!) She suggested giving her water(for when she seems to be feeding constantly) which I'm rather shocked at, I don't know what it is about healthcare 'professionals' in south oxfordshire that they all seem to think this is a good idea. Oh, and she meant just water, not gripe water. Grrr.

Pigley definitely try a group, some are better than others, I've never been back to our main village one as I just sat there thinking 'I'd rather be at home frankly' BUT I took DS to a signing class and although he's only learnt a few signs the other mums there were great. Now all our little ones are too old for the classes but we meet up at the same time anyway and they are good friends.

Rumpel I am with you on the self-esteem (or lack of) - got quite excited that I could fit into some 'normal' trousers and then found that they are size 18!!! I'm sure I don't look that huge, it does all seem to be jelly belly, but still... I am going to attempt a little run tomorrow (plus buggy) to get fit again. (interval training, nothing too stressful!)

Minipink, hope your DS gets well soon.

No relations here yet although DH is well up for it (which seems strange as neither of us could even imagine it at this stage first time round!). Think it is because my norks are even bigger than last time... I too am wary of the stitches, first attempt post DS was the most painful sex ever in my whole life but then I had an episotomy which I imagine was more stitches ('only' three this time). I'm too scared to have a look still..!

HI everyone...

Thanks for your comments about the groups. Was talking with my friend about it and she said she will take me to the one she goes to sometimes. She cant do this week, so next Thursday it is

Been using the infacol and it seems to be helping Abigail bring up her wind which is good.

Got my 6 week check at the Dr's next wed..those of you who have already had yours- What happens?
This appointment is just for me- Abigails is the week after.

Min912- Know hat you mean about being wary of the stitches. I must of had loads as was cut but still got a 3rd degree tear. Think they have all healed but very nervous of relations!

Sleepycat- welcome back

isaidno · 27/08/2008 16:28

poppy had her first lot of vaccs today and she is not happy... she screamed the docs surgery down and is currently in sling screaming every time I move slightly. I just had tp go to toilet with the sling on.

pigley - 6 week appt - nothing happens. Doc asks how you are. You say fine thanks. He asks about contraception. You go home. He may look at your stitches if you think they are not quite right, and he will be looking out for signs of any pnd.

sleepycat - no, we haven't forgotten you - we thought you'd forgotten us!

MINNIE1 · 27/08/2008 16:53

Pigley,
With my doctors app i will have a smear test (lucky me)and a general chat about how i am and what pill i want to go on!!

Min912
I had relations with DP 2 nights ago... Did not enjoy one bit, but it will get better i hope. I had 2 stiches and was worried sick, but all is ok.

minipinkscottish
I agree with you on the snip, I talked to DP about it and he refused point blank!! Not that i wanted him to do it right away but down the road! Men if they only went through what us women do.

Leah is doing great feeding and sleeping ok.. 6 wks tommorw feels like 6 months ago.

isaidno · 27/08/2008 19:12

My dh has an appt at the snip clinic in 2 weeks time - not for the actual op, but to discuss everything.
I am refusing to go back on pill.

RUMPEL · 27/08/2008 19:23

Evening all,

Hi PEANUT - good to hear Charlie is doing sow well I would like to hear from Twinkle and Lazyhippo now

Still up every 2-3 hours here. Although he did sleep better last night in winter sleeping bag - my babies always like being roasting hot . So hard trying to het all the washing done as he pukes so much !!.

Took DD to enrol in dance classes yesterday she starts next Tues ballet/tap and a wee bit of modern - she will love it. DH picked her up form nursery today and she had a bad day - she pushed over a wee girl and really not like her - she is usually realy friendly so I am assuming this is a 'stage' - other people with toddler experience please reassure me?

Took Calvin for another CS treatment today - he cried during most of it but seems a bit more relaxed now - he had lots of tension in his diaphragm this time - me too listening to him crying .

Got him a wee cute pair of camoflage trunks today for taking him swimming.

RE check up - my first one I was given an internal but they do not do that now - just ask how you are doing apparently - got mine next week. I have upped my mg of anti-ds as my anxiety has been pretty awful what with everything and hardly any sleep -up form 10mg to 20mg but it should be okay - feel much better already.

Re Relations - I was really worried first time around and I think you make it worse by tensing up IYKWIM - maybe have a few drinks first then get him to indulge in loads of foreplay to get you relaxed and in the mood? Or if you are into self-help you could practice with a vibrator first - so not in my list of things to do in the immediate future or Dhs - thank goodness!

Hope B and you are feeling better SWEETKITTY and EEC hope your Dh is recovering well - sorry if I've missed anyone - hard to keep up!

Hi SLEEPYCAT [wave emoticon]

By the way anyone who was on this thread early know what happened to PAULAPLUMPBOTTOM - I have been checking out the August thread to see who has had their bubbas (as a few of the July folk went over there) but Paula seems to have gone AWOL?

take care all - fingers x for a good night for us all

sweetkitty · 27/08/2008 21:26

Evening all not too bad a day today cold hasn't come to much, B seems a bit more settled although have just given her a 4oz bottle of EBM which she guzzled then put her on the boob and she fell asleep so popped in in moses basket thinking that will be her but no can see little limbs popping up as I type DD2 still on utter meltdown mode I don't know if it's due to B's arrival probably not DD2 is a law unto herself, I'm fed up of everything being a battle, took me 10 minutes to get her into nursery I swear I was nearly not going back for her.

Rumpel - DD1 is starting dance lessons this weekend too she will love it I'm sure. She sounds like a typical toddler they all have little spats at this stage, they see something think oh I want that not thinking thats theres someone else attached to it already. Glad the CS went well too.

Minnie/isaidno - no way DP would consider the snip, I will go back on the pill when I stop BFing, as for relations erm apart from the fact B doesn't sleep at night and we are both shattered nothing happening there feel completely unsexy though especially with my erm pile situation. I go to the toilet with my sling on easier than getting baby out if you just want a quick pee, I'm so used to one of the DDs following me in asking me questions today it was "Mummy have you got a winky?" and "are you doing a big poo" "no just a peepee aren't I a clever Mummy doing a pee pee in the toilet (hint hint)" "no it's a big poo Mummy I want to see it!" ahh the joys!

sleepycat - hello yes 3 under 4 is hard work

peanut - hello to you too glad Charlie is doing well and so big now too

hello to everyone else too
