i don't think the enjoyment of your bundle of joy could ever be called sad!!!!!
thanks for all your comments re weaning, i've realised that i should relish every moment of him being little and just wait until he grabs for food
just been to baby massage and he loved it, what fun!

starlover · 05/05/2005 18:23

Nik72... I am just the same with DS, although nowhere does as much boys stuf as girls!
It isn't fair

But he does have faaaaaaaaarrrr too many clothes, and he hasn't worn a lot of them

starlover · 05/05/2005 18:24

have also been splashing out on fuzzi bunz nappies, which are FAB!
But, have sold some of his nappy nation ones on here to fund it!

Nik72 · 05/05/2005 21:09

My granny gave me a dress she'd made for my mum as a baby - she'd spent the pregnancy hand sewing & embroidering dresses, knitting shawls, making drapes for the cot etc etc. She had to hand wash all the nappies....got no help from my grandfather...I hadn't realised how lucky I am! AND it was London in WW2 so bombs were dropping!!!

jayhazromie · 05/05/2005 22:50

hi there little roman has had his 2nd imms and hes feeling sooo sorry for himself ,i am thinking of investing in some terri style nappies that i can just whip on like a disposable no messin any recommendations ?

starlover · 06/05/2005 08:15

ooooh yes!
I am a recent convert, and completely in LOVE with fuzzi bunz.
Before them, I was using a shaped terry nappy with a wrap which was fab (nappy nation no-fold), however I am selling these to get more fuzzi bunz!
Good things about F-B's are:
they're VERY quick drying
Very soft
slim fitting
cool colours
you don't need a wrap!

They're a stuffable nappy made of a PUL outer and a very soft microfleece inner. You stuff them with whatever you want really, but I use mother of eden microfleece inserts. These keep them quite slim, although I do use a booster at night!

Got all of mine from kittykins

seem to be relatively cheap!

jayhazromie · 06/05/2005 22:39

well i have happily purchased my fuzzi bunz n all the other bits to go with them , the site only reccomends odering 7 , so i did , will this be enough do you think ? oh my poor baby he is so poorly hes got a high temp , whingy , clingy , and hes got green watery poos , so i foned the doc he said its the side effects of his jabs , the poor liddle fing , THANKS for the advice SL. oh on this weaning thing i would like to think id wait until he was 6 mth unless i get tempted by the utter cuteness of the whole thing , if you know wot i mean , no i will wait ,i need to lose THE baby belly

starlover · 07/05/2005 09:53

If you want him in cloth all the time then you'll need more than 7. But it's worth only buying a few so that you can try them out, and if you don't get on with them you'll be able to send them back!
If you haven't done so already then don't wash them all yet!
Try one or 2 to see how you get on with them before you wash the rest or, again, you won't be able to send them back.

I have 6 fuzzis, 6 shaped terries, and 12 terry squares. As a general rule we use around 8 a day and I do a nappy wash every day. They dry over the next day (as I have no tumble drier/radiators)... so we are on a kind of rotation.

aloha · 07/05/2005 10:43

Dd is 12 weeks, huge, and I don't intend to start giving solids before six months. Why would I? Its horrible hassle and mess. Never made ds sleep any better either.
Starlover - well done on the growth spurt - have posted to you on the other thread.

starlover · 07/05/2005 15:05

which thread aloha?

jayhazromie · 09/05/2005 23:04

hi there well these jabs n my baby just dont go he has now come out in a rash but he is back to his normal giggly self , my house is looking really bare we have started packing , we are moving house and town in about 10 days , so the fuzzis wont be unwrapped till then , new house new naps , and weve got loads of disposables to get through , how are the terri sqs , are they any good i might just top up with those would i need any thing else tho , i got a pack of baby rice through post today and it was soooo cute

gossifer · 11/05/2005 09:17

jayhazromie - my little one had a rash all over all day weds, real freaky when i first changed his nappy and saw it on his belly, but, like you said, he was fine other than that, no temp and gurgling away, all clear now! good luck with the move - i know how stressful - just put yourself a month forward in your mind!

hi tipex, leon only ever has 'powernaps' in the day, max 40 mins, about 2/3 after a feed; he was sleeping from 9pm (he goes down whilst awake and goes to sleep himself) until 6am and then feeding and sleeping until 9am(but has started waking again at 3am for a feed), the hard thing is he seems to need to feed every 2 hours in the day, think he's gonna need something more than my milk soon! hope this helps your survey!

roosmum · 12/05/2005 12:38

hey gossifer, my ds (14 wks) has done exactly that for the last 2 nights ... but i'm not planning on feeding 'solids' any time soon (if i can help it - given all the new advice from HV abt feeding). don't mind the frequent day feeding, but i LOVE my sleep & want it back . anyone else thinking about the 6 month feeding thing? anyone hoping to get close to it??

roosmum · 12/05/2005 12:41

tipex - sleep in daytime is highly variable...we get wakeful & sleepy days, tends to sleep more if we go out somewhere i think (unless lots of interesting stuff to look at - eg lights in shops!). never sleeps for v. long tho anyway - guess we get powernaps (1/2 hr - 45 mins?) here too.

roosmum · 12/05/2005 12:45

starlover - i just bought a fuzzi, & can see why you love it...fab nappy. just had 2 nature babies stuffies delivered, can't wait to try .

also toying with idea of making my own stuffy nappy, have pul & fleece ready, so just gotta give it a go...dh thinks new levels of nappy-madness reached (but pleased to think i might start making & stop buying!!)

starlover · 12/05/2005 16:28

roosmum... where did you get your PUL? is it patterned? Had also toyed with the idea of making my own, but couldn't find anywhere that sold really funky pul...

DS also has "powernaps" during the day now. Must be the age!
He will go for around 30mins a time, although he does sometimes have about an hour and half int he afternoon.

He goes to bed at 9ish, after his bath and sleeps til around 5.30am, he then has a feed and sleeps again til 8ish.
He is more than happy to be put down awake and drop off to sleep by himself! thankfully

futurity · 12/05/2005 17:07

DS (13 weeks) also has short naps and spends the day overtired and hungry! He is now 15lb 2oz and won't last until 6 months for solids! I talked to H/V today and she said that the 6 month thing is totally un-reasonable for some babies. When she heard his weight she said that I should try and hold out until 4 months but if I can't then to just use baby rice. He has also started feeding more ..including at 4am (grrrr!).I am shattered!

Hazellnut · 12/05/2005 17:13

Another power napper here !! But, she does sleep 12 hours at night (touch every piece of wood nearby) so can't complain really. Although she is exhausted by the time she goes to bed so am trying to get her to be a bit more serious with her daytime sleeps. The only one she does quite well is about 1 hour after she gets up and has her first feed, and then she will go back for between half an hour and an hour.

SL - i found some funky pul & some less funky pul on ebay, but in the states (so .com) rather than in the uk...got some plain navy & plain lilac (! ... bit girly, but ok with me if the nappy works!), which is sandwiched pul (same as cottom bottoms type fabric, pul hidden in the middle) & nice but obviously plain rather than funky. also got some 'smiley faces' pul, which has yet to arrive, tho shd be quite cool - it's black background with multi-coloured smiley faces on. paid abt 15 dollars inc delivery for the plain stuff, enough to make several nappies i think, & abt the same for the smiley pul. need to find some more fleece (just have plain cream thin fleece at the mo), wd like some bright coloured stuff to contrast my navy fabric & jazz it up a bit not sure where to find it tho, might try dunelm.
hv cut out a navy nappy now & will try & get round to sewing up...let you know how i get on. a also trialling my new nature babies stuffy (farm print one), looks dead sweet on, hope it performs as well!

starlover · 12/05/2005 17:25

I've also got a nature babies on the way in blue gingham. they tried to deliver it today but was out so have to wait til I can pick it up tomorrow!!!

will definitely look on ebay now for PUL!!!

roosmum · 12/05/2005 17:26

hey futurity...my ds is over 17lb at 14 wks...but my HV said to just increase amt of milk given to him (i'm BF, so to let him feed more as he wants i guess), until 6 months ideally. have 2 friends who fed just milk until 5 & 5 1/2 months & have just started feeding solids (both BF, one with a big baby) as their babies started waking lots at night, so it is possible to hold off solids for a while...i'm hoping to, but obviously will just have to see how it goes. they can't eat much until 6 months anyway (only baby rice or pureed fruit & veg), so they mainly get calories from milk, i think early weaning is more supposed to be more developmental than anything else. what does everyone else think bout feeding & 6 month advice?? what ar eyou all plaanning to do abt it??

roosmum · 12/05/2005 17:27

SL - we'll be outbidding each other, i can see it now!!!
NAPPY NUTTERS!

starlover · 12/05/2005 17:37

I'm planning on holding out until 6 months. Seems pointless to make more work for myself unless I have to!
will just see how Linus goes though... if he seems like he is ready before then, I guess we'll go for it! But I am happy enough feeding him at the mo, and he doesn't seem desperate for more!
He was 13lb 13oz last wednesday so probably about 14lb by now.
We were at bumps and babes this morning and 2 people there with little girls who are both 17 weeks and only weigh around 12 1/2lb!!!
