Tipex, is he ok this morning. Mine has done something similar a couple of evenings though not as bad, when none of the usual colic remedies worked. She's having a growth spurt, not sure if that's it.
A few weeks ago she suddenly started screaming out of the blue, dh & I belted over to see what was wrong - see had a handufl of her hair and was pulling it - the harder she screamed the harder she pulled, daft baby . Wish all screaming fits are as easy to sort. We've relied on the swaddle, shush, shoogle etc but it seems less effective now & have had to let her scream it out which is awful.

fruitful · 26/04/2005 11:04

Oh Tipex, its scary isn't it? If he keeps doing it, get him down the doctors (you too can be a paid-up member of the Paranoid Mum club thats what we pay taxes for). But I seem to remember dd doing this a few times too. The first time was the middle of the summer and we were outside, we had her stripped naked, checking her all over for bee stings... She had a sleep, woke up fine. We were wrecked of course. Sometimes I think they start yelling over something small, and then they're yelling cos they're hot and cross and bothered, and then they just yell cos they're yelling. That doesn't change - dd is 3 and she still gets herself in a state and then can't remember what she was crying about!

Hazellnut · 26/04/2005 20:04

Tipex - hope your lo is much better !!

Fruitful - changing subject completely but I was just posting on a small baby thread and went back to the thread I started a while ago when we first started having problems with dd being small and saw that you replied. Was your ds early because of IUGR again cos I think you had this with your dd didn't you or were they just naturally both small?? I only ask as I asked what the chances were of having IUGR in another pregnancy and they couldn't really say. Whats your experience if you don't mind me asking ??

OP posts:
fruitful · 27/04/2005 11:23

DD wasn't IUGR, just small - she was born on the 2nd centile and is still on it as far as I know (she's 3 next month).

DS was born 6 weeks early, on the 9th centile. He's 10 weeks now and almost back to the 9th centile. We had a sticky start with bf'ing, switched to formula - last week he gained 20oz . Anyway, don't think he was IUGR either. Time will tell I suppose - if he keeps going till he hits the 95th centile perhaps I'll think there was a problem in the womb!

I think I just make them small .

fruitful · 27/04/2005 11:23

Tipex - how's it going?

fruitful · 27/04/2005 11:24

We've been married 9 years today! Think we may celebrate with an early night - to sleep, of course !

Hazellnut · 27/04/2005 12:57

Congratulations on your 9 years of wedded bliss Fruitful !! We notch up 5 years this year and that seems long enough

Thanks for the info - thats good news that neither were IUGR !! I think DD has settled on about the 7th/8th centile (although started at less than 0.4 !!) as I don't think she would have been a big baby even if she had grown properly !!

hello everyone... hope you're all doing ok.
DS is asleep in his pram at the moment leaving me free to get on with the housework etc etc...

or, play around online!

roosmum · 29/04/2005 13:03

hello SL, yep we're fine. well apart from some fussy feeding, think it might be a bit of breast preference - feeding fine one side, screaming at the other...i#m confused!
how did you go with your minkis???
i'm still resisting cute cow nappy...

starlover · 29/04/2005 13:16

ds does that sometimes. he only likes right booby!

slinki minki's are FAB! slightly big on him at the mo, but he sometimes wears one at night. No leaks, and he looks soooooooo cute in them!

roosmum · 29/04/2005 13:42

so how do you get him to feed from the other side (roo also only likes right at the mo)...i'm feeding from left whilst lying down - which is ok at home, but not so good if we venture out...
glad to hear minkis are as fab as they look! i just bought a fab cowprint bear behinds wrap, it came this am & i love it! (too big for roo yet tho)
i've also bought some pul fabric & am hoping to make my own pocket nappy...dh thinks i'm madder & madder!

roosmum · 29/04/2005 13:43

roo also keeps stopping to grin at me - which is sooo cute, but sometimes i wish he'd just FEED!

starlover · 29/04/2005 13:46

i trick him into thinking it's the right one.
lay a cushion beside me, on my left side and put him on it to support his body. He'll be lying on his left side as if he's feeding from the right, but really it's the left... if that makes sense?

hello there everybody, hope you all had a bit of a nice weekend! a question - little leon has little hard white spots on his body, he had them on his face when he was born and i was told they were 'milkspots' and that they would go; does anyone else know of these and if they just go in time or what? thanks

starlover · 04/05/2005 20:41

hello allllll!

Went to baby clinic this afternoon and Linus has shot up to 13lb 13oz!!!
Had mega growth spurt last week!
Am persevering with my expressing to try and build my supply back up, but he is still on formula as well.... He has obliged to have a quick suck on booby now and then though!

The best news though.... he started sleeping through the night!!!!! It's fab. Just all of a sudden one night he didn't wake up, and has been the same since!
Getting an unbroken nights sleep is so great! He goes from around 9-6/7ish

Gossifer.. milk spots tend to just clear up by themselves. Not sure what causes them. When he has his bath try just getting a warm damp flannel and wiping them firmly... seems to help sometimes.

futurity · 04/05/2005 20:48

Quick update from me: Sam is now 12 weeks old and last week weighed 14lb 1oz..still on the 75th centile..porky pig!He slept through for the first time on Monday night (11 til 7) but last night back to waking at 4.30 and he was starving! Been hungry all day it seems as well and reluctant to go to bed so i think he is having a growth spurt (again!). Still fully b/f but can't wait to wean him as get the impression that Mummy milk won't be enough for him soon!

gossifer · 05/05/2005 09:07

thanks starlover, made me not worry so much, will try the bath thing!
leon also started sleeping through the night on the weekend and has done since! from about 9 until 6am! spent the first couple of nights waking up constantly and worrying but i'm sleeping like a baby now!!! i'm also worrying my milk is not going to be enough soon, he was 13lb 6oz 8 days ago, puts on about 6- 7oz a week
futuriry when you say wean do you mean to formula or onto solids? i've been thinking about going onto solids with leon, he seems v.interested when my partner gives him a bit of apple or pear to suck - what do people think of all the advice about when to start on solids?

Hazellnut · 05/05/2005 10:00

HI there - I had a 'weaning visit' last week as they thought dd was 4 months (she was 3 !). Basically my hv said that the WHO say 6 months but that they don't think it works in practice and to give it whenever your baby seems ready for it. The government booklet they gave me says not before 17 weeks. I don't know of anyone that has gone to 6 months (although there are lots of people on here that have). I was going to do it when dd seems to want it as seems to work for most people I know. I have now got used to sleeping through the night again so once they start getting disturbed again, she's going on the pies !! Although, again I know a lot of people don't think its related..... but each to their own I think. 17 weeks for me, is just over 2 weeks away which seems incredibly that dd has grown up so quickly !!

futurity · 05/05/2005 12:37

Last night was 3.30am...I am knackered! I think that sleeping through was just luck!
When I say weaning I do mean onto solids. My first son was weaned at 14 weeks (this was 3 years ago when the recomendation was 4 months). I only did it then as he stopped putting on weight and the health visitor advised it. However, Sam now weighs the same as my first son did at 4 months and Sam is not even three months until Sunday! He will be 14 weeks the week after next and I think I will do the same as I did for my first son as he was alot happier when he had something heavier in his tummy and I think Sam will be the same. When I did start first time round I only gave baby rice for the first two weeks until he was 4 months.

starlover · 05/05/2005 14:48

I think weaning depends on the baby. I am just planning on b/feeding Linus until he wants more than I can give him!
Hopefully it'll be 4 months, then I can have a break! LOL

fruitful · 05/05/2005 15:20

Well I'm hoping ds will get to 6 months cos I'm going camping in August and it would be easier if he was still on just milk . But as he was 6 weeks prem, I think getting to 6 months ought to be a bit easier. He only weighs 9lbs now, at nearly 3 months. My friend's baby was 6 months today, has been having baby rice for 2 weeks and was off home to try some pureed pear for lunch - it is possible. But not worth breaking your neck over, definitely. But I'm in no rush this time - its all too much like hard work, all that pureeing. I thought maybe I'd make ds wait until he grabs the toast out of my hand...

Sleeping thru? Hah! I'd be delighted if he only woke once! And the really bad news is that dd is dropping her lunchtime nap so I'm not getting a chance to nap myself.

We've got some SMA Staydown milk from the docs to try, to see if that helps with the puking. Might reduce the laundry a bit.

Right, must go and vote. Ds wants me to vote labour so he can hang on to his trust fund chq.

Nik72 · 05/05/2005 15:59

Gosh, sleeping through sounds good but I suppose she's only 9 weeks and at least she sleeps at night even if she is up for a feed once or twice. Means I get a better sleep which has made a huge difference to my mental well being - am really starting to enjoy being a mummy now. Am afarid to say stopping breast feeding helped a lot too as it was just such a blooming struggle. Am expressing away - not sure how long I'll keep it up!
1st immunisations yesterday, poor duck! She slept all day after but seems OK. We've been in motherease nappies for a week now & getting used to the more frequent changes.
I can't believe how quickly she's changing - now she's playing on her baby gym making all sorts of happy baby noises, it's so cute. She is growing out of clothes at a rate of knots too and I have to really restrain myself from buying lots of gorgeous little outfits as they'll not last long. I love dressing her up though, how sad am I?
