essie apparently the sweat thing is hormonal.. you're not the only one who erm notices that they are less than fragrant after not very long...

spongebrainbigpants · 15/07/2008 17:41

Essie, glad it's not just me on the feeling hotter/sweatier front - thought I was going through the menopause I sweat so much at nights!

Good luck for tomorrow! Think the weather is supposed to be pretty crap so fingers crossed you won't have to worry about the heat.

spongebrainbigpants · 15/07/2008 17:41

poppy, x-posted! you too then?!

Essie3 · 15/07/2008 17:46

Sponge, why not just keep the weight and have another baby - like be pregnant all the time ? It's an easier option than dieting IMO!

And I have a suspicion that the reason everybody in the world can settle Iestyn except me is that I smell of milk - and even though you're not bf you might do too (I'm not thinking in an obvious way - at least I hope not - just in a hormone-y way) so when you hold your own baby he/she immediately thinks 'aha, food here'. Iestyn almost never settles for me, and will root if he's just been fed and winded. (He also doesn't seem to realise that he's full - much like his father then...!)

Mind you, you could ask my MIL and she'd tell you that it's because 'you're not doing it properly'. Separated-at-birth-twin of your MIL, Sponge?!

Gearing up for the dummy fight on Thursday. Iestyn may not be addicted to it but I am...

Essie3 · 15/07/2008 17:47

X-posted with some sweaty women . So I'm not imagining it! Someone tell me it passes, though?

spongebrainbigpants · 15/07/2008 18:02

Essie, the thought of just thinking 'sod it' and losing the weight afterwards had crossed my mind, but in the world of unnatural conception your body is not your own and my BMI is over 30 which means no IVF for me. While it could be construed as being dictatorial, at the end of the day being overweight means the IVF is less likely to work and when you're spending £4k plus for a cycle, you need to maximise your chances. Plus, I'm hoping that being lighter will help with the SPD which is almost certain to come back and bite me next time!

Had thought about the milk thing - but he doesn't settle for dh either and I don't think he produces breast milk!

But you're right, I'm not doing it properly - I need my MIL to move in with me and show me how it's done!!! (considers suicide if this ever happens!)

poppy34 · 15/07/2008 18:04

good luck tomorrow essie -had client accidentally phone me last week and launched into chat..was very impressed that could bullshit and breastfeed to him at the same time.. he did sound a bit sheepish when he asked where I was and I said at home with my ten day old baby

also agree re the smelling of milk thing.. I can't see what I do that is different to dh in winding madam but doesn't work for me and does for him.

link here on the dreaded sweating thing.. sweaty betty link..apparently it does pass.

pleasechange · 15/07/2008 18:05

whinegums - Alexander also hates being changed. Screams the house down every time, and a dummy doesn't work as he just spits it out. I hope this passes!

sponge I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the Aptamil. Also that's interesting re. your friend. There was a mw in hospital who could settle Alexander in 2 mins flat just by winding and swaddling him. My attempts have been much less successful!

poppy34 · 15/07/2008 18:06

sponge still pretty early days re weight loss.. so might lose some more yet.. can see how life gets very complicated when you're on ivf

poppy34 · 15/07/2008 18:08

where do you get the aptamil easy digest? have just bought some aptamil as so many people seem to use it (although must say not had any issues re digestion with the sma)

spongebrainbigpants · 15/07/2008 18:15

poppy, thanks, I put on alot of weight while pg - partly cos of the SPD and being v inactive. Unfortunately my body is very efficient at storing fat and I've always really struggled to lose weight. However, my Wii Fit is really helping - would strongly recommend it to anyone thinking of buying one! Great fun and fits in with a newborn!

Easy Digest I bought from Sainsburys - fairly readily available I think. I will let you know how I get on. A friend of mine with a 6 wk old has used it and said apparently her son did farts that could kill at 20 paces on ED food, but tbh I'm willing to try anything right now!

Lazylou · 15/07/2008 18:22

Glad its not just me with the sweaty thing then! It was really bad up until a week ago, particularly at night and all I wanted to do was strip off nbut because of the bleeding still, couldn't do it. The night sweats have stopped at last but I had a bath this morning and by the time I collected DD from school at 11:30, could smell myself again.

Essie3 · 15/07/2008 18:40

Sponge totally forgot you had IVF. (Mind you, getting pregnant - however it's done - can make you more fertile...although was it blocked tubes you had? Sorry, getting really personal here! Ignore me!) So it's a real nuisance with losing weight - I have little energy for doing anything so I'm impressed at your exercise! I have a Davina McCall video which is good too. (Er, I sat and watched it !)

But with my sweating, I don't think exercise is a good idea .

Sponge also suicide pact with you if MILs move in! But surely better for you and Alex if you hire a hitman? I can pass on a number...

spongebrainbigpants · 15/07/2008 19:28

Essie, I think that's the best way to use an exercise video!! The thing I like about the Wii Fit is that it's more interactive - keeps track of your progress and tells you off if you haven't done any exercise that day!

Yes, blocked tubes for me unfortunately so no chance of that miracle natural conception sadly .

Hitman sounds good - although the other day I felt terrible cos I said to a friend after MIL had left that I hoped she "just dropped dead" . Then spent the whole day worrying that that is exactly what she would do and I would never forgive myself . . .

Essie3 · 15/07/2008 21:59

Why, are you a witch, Sponge? I once cursed a dog, wishing it dead, and it then died, so I always play it safe on the cursing!

I am sorry that you can't conceive naturally - but it's great that you have Alex! In a way, though, at least you know? I just spent the afternoon with a friend who is unable to conceive but there's no known cause: everything is normal and healthy. So she's always got that chance...and yet no baby. So sad. She's done clomid, and it's the next stage now (?IUF or something i.e. injected sperm).

debinaustria · 15/07/2008 22:00

Amber = how did it go with the night nanny?

debinaustria · 15/07/2008 22:01

Essie - shouldn't you be in bed? Preparing for tomorrow?

LauraT · 15/07/2008 22:23

good luck with your lecture Essie!

libralady · 15/07/2008 22:26

Just uploaded some more photos and am now off to catch up on the thread!

spongebrainbigpants · 15/07/2008 22:46

libralady, what gorgeous boys you have! Love the photo of your little one with your gran - she must have been thrilled!

Essie, hmm, yes maybe I am a witch . . . so watch out before you cross me!

As for infertility and knowing why - it's a tough one. Yes, we do know the reason but it does mean we can never have the amazing feeling of a natural conception, the wonder of creating a baby just by making love, and the joy of discovering that you're pg out of the blue. Those with unexplained IF do have that possibility (and I do know a number of women who have suffered from unexplained IF and who have conceived naturally in the end - but I would never tell someone with unexplained IF that cos they'd probably hit me, and quite rightly, cos it won't happen for all of them).

Your friend must be having IUI - the next step before IVF. It's a very tough road and I admire her for having the strength to see you when you have such a young baby, I certainly couldn't have done it.

Anyway, better try and go to bed. Dh is sleeping in the spare room tonight so I'm doing all the feeds, cos he's going away tomorrow and has a long drive - first night without him since Alex came along. Mum is coming up to stay - what a wimp!

Essie3 · 15/07/2008 22:54

You're right, Sponge, and I now admire my friend even more - it must have been really tough for her. To make matters worse, her sister had a baby a week ago.

Ok, ok, my DH is lying here on the spare bed saying I have to go to bed - he's doing the 3am feed tonight. So yes, Deb, I'm going now!

Rolf · 15/07/2008 23:11

Good luck tomorrow Essie. DH can't get down to London so he won't be able to tell me all about it.

All the photos are gorgeous!

Sponge - I'm sorry you won't be able to conceive naturally. I'm glad you have Alex but it is obviously (and understandably) such a huge sadness for you.

fungle · 16/07/2008 07:58

Glad its not just me that has night sweats, and seems to pong a bit more than usual Nice.
Better night last night here. Midwife suggested a early eve bath to help Isla's wind problem, seemed to calm her a lot, plus really dedicating time to winding her. She accepted the dummy while I was reading DD story too! Kept falling out, but better than we've done before
Got into bed at 9, she slept till 12.30, then till 4! Great night.
Good luck today Essie.
Lovely pic everyone, mine should have gone onto my profile now too.
Off to meet girlfreinds with kids for lunch today, first back to normal thing we've done, really looking forward to it.

dylansmumplusone · 16/07/2008 09:42

just need to catch up properly but so glad it's not just me who's smelly!! i'm sure it didn't happen with ds but it's terrible this time round!

needahand so glad i was able to help with your night feeds. makes me feel so useful.

aberdeen i know what you mean about having 2. i feel like i barely 'know' anwyn compared with dylan at this stage because i have to give him so much attention. i feel very lucky that she's such an easy baby or i don't know what i'd do! i've still barely left the house with the 2 of them by myself (we have loads of stairs and have to take public transport everywhere) but we just bought a toddler trampoline for in the flat so dylan gets some exercise and i have to say, i've been tired just watching him so far this morning so hopefully it improves his sleep!

spongebrainbigpants · 16/07/2008 10:26

Well, we tried the Easy Digest last night - what a disaster! The ED is a much thicker consistency than normal Aptamil so poor little boy couldn't suck it through the teats we have. In my sleep befuddled state it took me ages to work out he was sucking away and getting nothing out.

Dh had to sterilise the bottles again and remake a whole load of his usual feed - and the night didn't get any better from then. We (as in me and Alex) slept from 3-5am and that's it. Exhausted.

Can anyone give me any advice on snacking - Alex is developing this really bad habit of waking up for a feed, taking about 20ml, falling asleep (and I try everything to wake him), then waking up half an hour later for more. Can just about cope with it during the day, but last night it nearly killed me as it took him nearly 4 hrs to take one bottle .
