PP - I know what you mean re: maternity clothes. Am so fed up that I'm still in maternity tops! I bought a new pair of jeans (2 sizes bigger than pre-preg ) because I was soooo sick of my maternity jeans/trousers. Now wearing those every day (they walked to the washing machine last night ).

your sunshine Josie, it's still pouring down here with no sign of any let uip! Glad you are now on the mend. Empathy re: your MIL - I know that mine is going to be exactly the same when S is older. I had to be very firm over her feeding S his milk the other day . Solids dont even bear thinking about!

Made it to parents and baby group and had lunch. S has been sleeping all morning which is bliss, but will no doubt pay later!

alipalli · 06/08/2008 13:41

Hello. I have been lurking for a few days, but have completely failed to post, so can't think where to start with all your news.

PP big hugs to you. It sounds so horrible what you went through after such a difficult and long labour too. You probably don't want to talk about it when we meet tomorrow, but we can if you want.

Josey you've had a hard time too, pleased that the bleeding is winding down.

Happy anniversary Deb. LOL at Stephan's comment about how much you get to sit down these days. Did you say how much Ethan weighs now? I got Peter weighed for the first time in 3 weeks this morning. At 7 weeks he is now 13lbs 5oz. No wonder my arms ache.

Systemsaddict you posted something a day or two ago about your feeding routine (i.e. there wasn't one it was just constant, but good at night). Thanks for writing that down. It exactly describes Peter so you made me feel much better. When GPs and HVs say "when was his last feed", they look at me as though I am stupid when I can't really answer for them.

EBM questions. 1) How much do people get out of one breast at a time. I get 2oz, occasionally a little more. 2) how many oz or mls do your LOs need for a feed? Yesterday I went out for 50 mins to get my hair cut. I had proudly managed to express twice, so left DH with 2 x 3oz bottles hoping that one could be used for the late feed. I got home and Peter had sunk both of them. I find expressing lots really hard simply because he is feeding so much of the day anyway.

Ho hum. Better go and express

debinaustria · 06/08/2008 13:44

thanks for the well wishes - 14 years today!! and we've been together 20 years

busy, busy here 3 lots of washing - ds2 taken to tennis, dinner made, ds2 boy picked up and ds1 dropped off, weeded drive, fed, changed winded ds3, now off to get swimming stuff as the weather is so hot and the outdoor pool is over the road

hi looney nice to see you back

aberdeen - fraser had a good night - -2 long sleeps you lucky thing

poppy34 · 06/08/2008 14:07

deb ..don't think its just a boy thing.. usually end up giving in and takign edie into the bed after 4/5am feed as the weightlifter noises get too much (I have no idea what these are about..wind her/feed her and still makes them - maybe she is excited about the olympics ). .and happy anniversary!

bdq etc - right went to consultant (who was lovely) and had my lump lanced again...will have to keep doing this every week or so til it goes -which is pain as have to go into town to do it but alternative is surgery which leaves a scar and possibly some kind of milk

Re stopping, consultant said express/feed as little as possible and try to live with the enorgement as not surprisingly more you do it the more the prodcution goes on. Didnt seem particularly bothered re risk of infection etc (and in my circs you can hardly make the blocked duct any worse when you are removing the eu milk lake weekly). Seemed to think if you can brave it out production should stop quite quickly. I will leave aside fact he looked at me in some fascination as apparently you dont usually see such big blocked ducts (the lake is about 2 inches square )

allipalli -generally get about 2oz from each breast but can be 3oz or so in morning .

PP definitely right to act on this...mw sounds a piece of work and at very least that side of things shoudl be reported.

josie have had that procedure before, and surgeon right re bleeding stopping pretty quickly which must be good news given what you ahve been through.

sitting here in chaos as builders in, cleaner adn only peace I get is watching jeremy kyle on tv

mamawizz · 06/08/2008 14:08

Hi everyone. I thought it was too late really to join - I too have been following the thread since early in my pregnancy - but am taking the plunge after seeing the other newbies.

I have two boys: Theo, who was 2 in March, and Caspar, who was 9 weeks on Monday (born 2/6/08). Have days where I am loving it all and feel totally in control / supermum, and others where it all seems completely daunting. Have really enjoyed reading everyone's posts for so long though.

poppy34 · 06/08/2008 14:12

hi mamawizz and welcome... nice to hear its not just new mums like me who have their good and bad days..

amberc.. to quote my dh "If I ever see you tidying, I'll get you sectioned never mind the hv"

whinegums · 06/08/2008 14:46

Afternoon ladies. Thanks for the comments from those of you also letting the little darlings 'cry it out.' I left B to it last night whilst I had a 15 minute shower (DP was working v late) - I couldn't hear him when the water was running, and when I came out he'd settled down.

Also, thank you to whoever posted about thrush - sorry, memory is dreadful, and no time to go back through the posts to check - it clicked with me yesterday - I'd been battling on through sore nips after HV and MWs had told me that bf was painful, and I was just more sensitive/small!! Went to docs today, and we've both got it, so we're on treatment.

Does anyone know what I should do with frozen EBM - will it reinfect B? Think I'll use it up straight away just to be on the safe side - I have my night out tonight so won't express, will use the frozen stuff - and I'll use some tomorrow when we're out too. I won't have much left in the freezer after that, but curious if anyone knows.

Deb, Happy Anniversary!

Josie, hope you are right about bleeding stopping and you're feeling better.

Alipalli, most of the time I can get about 3oz with a manual pump in 10 mins. B will take 3oz and be happy, but will take more if offered (little piglet!) - some of it usually comes back, so we're careful about giving him much more than 3oz. He's just over 4 weeks old now and almost 11lbs if that makes a difference.

DramaQ - raining here as well, but I think I'm still going to wear ridiculous summery shoes when I go out later - that's what cabs are for.

Poppy, ouch re lancing etc, hope that settles down soon.

B seems to be sleeping longer now - from 11ish til 5/6ish at night - hurrah! - and longer and fewer naps during the day.

Sorry for long post!

Amberc · 06/08/2008 14:52

mamawizz gutted - I wanted to call my LO Caspar but My DP wouldn't hear of it as he wanted a more traditional name

poppy Aren't you meant to wear a really tight bra and not take it off for 2 weeks (day & night unless in the bath!) when you are stopping milk production - that's what I was told to do.

deb happy anniversary adn astnished at how much you have done today - the most I have done is tidy up and go and buy the paper!

The Health visitor thinks I'm fine and not depressed or a nutter thankfully. I just told her that I was sleep deprived and what new mum with no help and no sleep wouldn't answer yes to 'I sometimes feel miserable'?!

poppy34 · 06/08/2008 14:59

amberc -thats a good idea..noticed that milk flow doesnt happen in day when bra on but does at night when off.. will try that... on express front its been 9 hours...

SparklingSarah · 06/08/2008 15:02

fankies

I always inding creaming my poor ravaged boobs helps even with a bit of vaseline

Daniel is sleping quite nicely ging for around 4-5 hours at least once a day so I'm pleased

I also have a 6 year old daughter

doing ok overall people think it's easier with an older child which I spose it is mostly but the gap at times can be trying
and the hardest bit I have found is getting sorted to go out to school hopefully when she gets back we'll have a vague pattern going on
I don't do "routines" things just happen and I deal with them!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/08/2008 15:50

Thanks poppy. Am bit scared of going cold turkey and just stopping. Eek! Might go for another day or two. If nothing else, feeling the need to get money's worth out of the £90 medela electric pump . I've never really got into the whole ebay thing but as barely worn maternity jeans, electric pumps and other bits and pieces gather dust I might seriously consider selling some stuff there!

Sparklingsarah - I think it must be really hard to manage with 2 or more. I was really proud of myself just for getting out the house by 10.30 today.

Finally took the sling out of the box today, tried S in it and he promptly fell asleep. Thought I'd keep it on for a bit and have discovered that I can use the computer while he snoozes in sling. Yay! Will definitely be trying out the sling in the evening when he wont stop crying unless he's being held . Am definitely in favour of 'crying it out' whinegums and others - unfortunately it hasn't worked for S so far. I will try it again in a week or so though.

Welcome mamawizz - what part of the country are you from? Caspar is a lovely name - I was really keen on it too.

Deb I dont know where you get your energy from! How's Ernest getting on btw? She seems to have disappeared from here, but I think you were in touch away from MN?

bitofadramaqueen · 06/08/2008 15:54

whinegums good news on B's night-time sleeping patterns btw! Am . S is still waking up at 3am but has taken around half his usual feed for the last couple of nights so think that's a step in the right direction.

Re: frozen EBM I would have thought it would re-infect?

whinegums · 06/08/2008 16:09

DQ, know what you mean about stuff gathering dust - already! Have a big bag of mat things which are getting passed on to prego friend. Already planning on getting rid of other stuff at future NCT sales - I'm not expecting to get much for it all, but better than cluttering up the place and hopefully less faff than Ebay. Maybe you could try that too?

Keep going and S's sleep will settle down I'm sure - I hope so! My sling is yet to be used.... Will try this week.

Think you're right about dumping the EBM too - had a look on bf threads, and someone had just posted on same thing. Also saw that microwave steam steriliser doesn't kill thrush, so it's on to Milton for us for the moment.

poppy34 · 06/08/2008 16:18

whinegums fwiw used milton hand gel when had thrush which was pretty good.

bdq know what you mean re unused goods.. have loads myself (only now can I bear to think that mgiht not give away maternity stuff etc as may use it again)..slings are fab... word of wanring though is that they can get very hot in them in this weather so need to have little breaks when you're out.

am now completely at a loss at what to do re moving to own room and how we do fomrula ( am following guidelines on hot water etc but do make up in advance - re moving to own room , know this is likely to happen pre 6 months)... feel complete wuss as dh is much more robust than me (basically made up ff in advance and moved kids to cot for older dsc so happy to do same for our dd.. but then she is my pfh )

bitofadramaqueen · 06/08/2008 16:32

Poppy after much angst I've gone ahead and made up bottles in advance and keeping in fridge. I make sure they are used within 12 hours.

If you're not happy with that, you could boil water, leave for 30mins then put the water in a flask, so at least when you have to make up a bottle then you already have water at the right temperature? I did that for the first few days. The cartons of milk are a godsend for being out and about though - no faff whatsover, just make sure you have a small pair of scissors in your changing bag for opening it!

Ta for tip on sling poppy and great idea re nct sales whinegums - I may just do that. Definitely less faff.

Whinegums - I really wish I'd got the sling out earlier! I'm even going to go on the bus with it on Friday now!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/08/2008 16:35

Oh, also meant to say whinegums - I'm a big fan of the milton! As S has been getting both formula and EBM I've had a lot of sterilising to do anyway and found cold water much less faff. Wash stuff when it's dirty then chuck in the steriliser (obviously changing it every 24 hours). We started off with microwave but found cold water method much less faff. Although we have got the single bottle tommee tippee microwave steriliser for emergencies!

Josie57 · 06/08/2008 17:01

Mammawhizz - your post struck a chord as i too have good mum andbad mum days. Mind you i have no idea how deb manages to do all that she does. Even on my supermum days we're not as efficient as her.

EBM - freezing should kill off the thrush but there is always a chance that there will be some hardy little thrush bugs left so probably best to get rid of it.Or if you can't bear to do that makesure you use itwhilst still on your antibiotics.

spongebrainbigpants · 06/08/2008 17:20

mamawizz, welcome to the thread!

deb, happy anniversary!

poppy, totally with you on moving LO to his own room. Dh is now ready to move Alex and I thought I was too, but keep changing my mind .

Having said that, last night I put Alex to bed at 10.00pm, joined him at 10.30pm and he woke up at . . . . 5.45am!!!!

What a star!

Sure he won't repeat it again but it was nice to have seven hours sleep - and it was the first night dh was in the States (back on Saturday) so helped even more.

Amberc · 06/08/2008 18:09

sponge you are so lucky on the sleep - Luke slept 4.5 hours and that's the longest he's slept in one go. Even if he slept 10pm-10am I would still not get any sleep as I seem to hear every noise he makes which keeps me awake (he is next door in his own room and I still hear the merest whimper!). Arse.

PiggyPenguin · 06/08/2008 20:01

Just checking in while cooking tea. Hello to newbies, glad you decided to officially join us!

ThePenguinProject · 06/08/2008 20:21

Quick post to advise that everyone who can make it is invited to a RL meet up at London Bridge tomorrow at 12. Alongside the Millies Cookies stand / WHSmith. If Waterloo is easier AliPalli and I will be meeting up at the Costa in the middle of the concourse and then getting the overground via Waterloo East.

Let us know if you're coming so we don't leave without you if you're running late!

fungle · 06/08/2008 21:17

Hi Guys, how is everyone this eve??
SA re zero milk at bedtime, I have expressed as soon as LO has gone down and only had 1 1/2oz in 5 hours.
The milk issue is getting a bit harder here the last 2 days. Think she may have Reflux.
Its getting worse as the days go on, many feeds are coming up and sometimes 2 hours after a feed. Im feeling quite despondent this eve. Shes had 2 consecutive FF, I just need to see if that stays down better that he BM. It seems to be working so far.
Things have not been helped today by a arsehole partner. He didnt answer his phone last night because he was out on the piss. He works away, i accept that, but to not answer your phone with a 5 week old at home and a 4 1/2 yr old aint on i dont think. I called him this morn and he was too hungover to talk so I put the phone down. He then didnt call all day. Spoke to him an hour ago and hes mansged to tun it round that its all my fault for putting the phone down on him. He then put the phone down on me, GRRRRRR. If it aint hard enough already. I feel like going out and bugger the lot of em.
Anyhow....Looney, why have you been absent, i did notive youd disapeared, u where a reg.
You guys with your big long sleeps last night (you know who you are!) It gives me hope that it just happens sometimes!
Deb, I am in awe at you with 3! Im struggling with my 2, and i dont run a b & b.
Wheres Neenz? Shes normally on more?
Re bad birth stories.... can anyone link me to PP's I missed it at the time doing my own birth stuff. PP I think your right to request your notes. Even though its almost 5 years, since having this baby Its brought up a lot of things from my first birth id like to find out about and am thinking of doing the same. Can you let me knoe how to go about it if you find anything useful. Thankyou.
Right oh, i should really make a sarnie for myself before crashing out. I have no appitite at the mo. anyone else?
Now i just hve to decide if a BF in the night or go with the formula?? I soo want to BF her for a bit longer but we are really struggling with nightime feeds esp Super long post. Thanks for listening guys it helps a lot!xxx

mamawizz · 06/08/2008 21:37

Amberc - my husband wasn't convinced by name Caspar, but managed to talk him round. It helped that he came up with no other suggestions. We spent months with him saying no to all my suggested names but not coming up with any of his own.

BDQ - I am in SW London, between Kingston and Wimbledon, so gave birth at Kingston Hospital.

All the talk about preparing FF - this time I am breastfeeding but didn't really manage it last time. After experimenting with various methods last time, we just used to boil the water, pour it into the bottles and leave them at room temperature, then tip the powder into each bottle of water as we needed it before heating up. Didn't realise that you aren't supposed to do do that. Luckily Theo seems fine!

And as for moving them into own room, we didn't do it with Theo till he was about four or five months, but Caspar went into his own room last week as he's such a light sleeper - he seems to almost wake up if I even just cough. I'm convinced that they sleep much better once you move them.

Sarahpo · 06/08/2008 22:01

Hello all wow 900 posts i posted my a while back when my baby was overdue and i was eventually induced and gave birth July 11th. Congratulations to all of you have had your summer babies :-)

BUT i have to ask a question and i cannot seem to find any answers on the Internet....I am now nearly four weeks 'post partum' and i have never felt such a level of fatigue in my whole life. I am dragging myself around and have never felt so freaking tired in my whole life. Is this common? I am expecting too much after nearly four weeks of having baby? I have never felt like this in my life and it is starting to get me down, I feel physically like a wreck, i told the Health Visitor i feel like Night of the Living Dead!
