lol at your DS .

Hope you got some sleep tgf

Neenztwinz · 20/07/2008 11:55

Greenfairy how are you today? Hopefully your LO tired herself out in the end and you got some sleep. How old is she? Is Gina's crying down method leaving her to cry but going in to check on her every few minutes? I think that works but maybe better with an older baby who can understand more that mummy is nearby... Sometimes my DTs settle themselves when left to cry but other times no chance. Do you have a vibrating recliner? Mine is wonderful, watch out for VR angst though! (Esther is actually sleeping in hers at night at the mo cos she won't go in her cot - I am using the hernia as an excuse but fear I'll never get her out of it!)

Essie that is exactly how I feel about the recliner - that there is something else wrong but I am just taking the easy option. Suppose we have to accept that your baby likes to such and mine likes to vibrate! Nothing actually wrong with them they just like it

Don't want to brag (yes I do!) but I am back in my size 10 jeans . They are a bit of a squeeze though! Still 10lbs to lose till back to pre-pregnancy weight.

Neenztwinz · 20/07/2008 11:56

UDC sometimes it only takes a little suck on me to get mine off to sleep if they are unsettled. I think that is fine - absolutely understandable really (BFing and being close to mum should put them in their most idyllic state!)

katyjo · 20/07/2008 12:06

sponge did you have a hormonal or non-hormonal coil? I don't really want hormones, but apparently can help settle down your cycles.

TGF big hugs, if Storm is putting on weight well she is not starving, tell dh to take a chill pill. I really symapthise with the not sleeping, My mum always swears by the pram, does she sleep or settle when you go for a push or a drive in the car, at least it gives your arms a rest.

Essie sounds like lo has just got more efficient at feeding, Hamish used to feed really quickly and he was a really chubber! Lucky you!

Paro does sound like a growth spurt and your boobs will feel empty as she is eating more, don't worry your boobs will make more and catch up with her, but if you won't to give ff its upto you, your her Mum and don't let anyone tell you what to do!

I did ww last time and it was fab! I waited unitl ds was weaning so I only got 5 extra points, you get 10 if exclusively bf. I lost a stone in 2 months and I plan to do it this time, but just waiting until things settle down a bit.

katyjo · 20/07/2008 12:12

Neenz Very jealous, haven't been size 10 for nearly 3 years will make an effort now. I use vibrating chair loads, but I did with ds and he seems fine. I watched baby whisperer and they had a baby with hernia and reflux and they used a special reclining cot thingy to help him settle, so I reckon vibrating chair is the same thing.

UDC I have let both of mine have a wee suck to get them to sleep if they need it, don't see the harm really, I think it helps push the wind through. If you hav to feed them to sleep when they are 2 you might be in trouble, but at this age I wouldn't worry.

pleasechange · 20/07/2008 13:13

Hi all - I think Alexander is now also going through a growth spurt, he seemed to want to feed constantly last night. Bummer is he doesn't seem to like feeding lying down - he latches fine but then lets go and cries with frustration.

katyjo I also let him have a suck to get him to sleep, even when I know he's not hungry. Works great at the time, but unfortunatly this means it's only me that can comfort him to sleep, which means I get really resentful to see DH happilly asleep! He was really good though this morning and took Alexander while I had a lie-in

Got MIL & tribe coming this afternoon , just what I need, as we had visitors all day yesterday. Is anyone else fed up with visitors? I find they just get in the way atm when spare time is in such short supply!

hedgehog1979 · 20/07/2008 14:01

Just a short post to let you know we are now back in the good ole south east (?) had a fab time with family, thinking of stealing my mum as she loved taking him out for a walk in the afternoons so DH and I could go and have a sleep.

Hope everyone is doing ok, will try and catch up but make no promises.

We are off to Brighton later on to meet up with some old uni friends and are braving the train rather than take the car!!

thegreenfairy · 20/07/2008 14:44

Afternoon all. Well, to top it off I have mastitis... Couldn't work out why I felt so rotten and then I realised this morning - sore patch on my right breast, terrible fever, aching joints - hell basically!

Storm (neenz she's seven weeks) eventually settled at midnight (awake for nine hours) after having 5oz of EBM and then a top up from me. She was so tired when she woke for her night feed I couldnt' get her to take any from the breast so I had to express and then she only took 1.5oz. She seems ok today, but has been v tired and feeding a lot. Will be glad when this latest episode is over!

Ok, off to express my sore boob. Boo.

Parofleurmapu · 20/07/2008 16:02

Hello all Had a day in bed today to recover from marathon weve been through!!!
Fleurs pattern last night and today was 10pm 2am 3.30am 6am 9am 11am 3pm!(amazed bout that one!!) so better we shall see what happens think my ranting was just a hormonal hissing fit!!! but as you all know its so hard to know what to do!!!

Re expresssing, Neenz i have a question when you said that at 6pm and 10pm feeds you give them a bottle of EBM is this cuase milk supply lower in pm, its better to help them lull to sleep? or whats the reason, ive read lots of people do it and wondered if it helped them settle better?

Hugs to you TGF our babies are relatively same age so they must be in unison causing their mummies trouble at the 7th week!!

Thanks katyo, yep i know im mummy but sometimes mummy finds it hard to know what to do!!! he ho today was much better! lets see what night time holds as fleur is moving out of moses basket!!! yep at 7 weeks she is too big, she is not really fat and chubby just really long and she loves to sleep with arms out at side bit like jesus on the cross!!! and her arms dont fit anymore so she gets woken up when hands hit the side!!! So wish us luck putting her in actual cot for first time!!!

udc lol at your ds Can you ask him where he will buy them from? id like a spare pair please!!!Think DH would look good in them!!!

bitofadramaqueen · 20/07/2008 16:56

Added myself! Paro - good luck with the move to cot, Struan (at two weeks old) is looking like he wont fit in moses basket for too long...

Congrats on the size 10 jeans Neenz - I'm not bitter at all about the fact that I cant fit into the pre-pg size 10 or 12 jeans, or my early pregnancy size 14's... Have to go buy some new jeans and hoping to find some generously cut size 14's. Wish me luck!

good luck with the jeans dramaqueen. If it makes you feel any better, I was size 10 pre pregnancy and had to buy some size 16 trousers this week and they're the only ones that fit me! I'm really hoping I'll fit into my early pregnancy jeans some time soon...

Well got the MIL visit out of the way. Apparently Alexander smiled at her again. Funnily enought I smelled a dirty nappy just after!

greenfairy commiserations on the mastitis

quick question on EBM. I have only been able to extract about 30ml at any time. Is this normal?

aberdeenhiker · 20/07/2008 18:50

dramaqueen - try Sainsbury's - I've a very generous size 12 from there. I was a 10/12 too, but right now I'd just be hoping to get into a couple pair of looser fit 12s. They button up, but the belly flab around the tight waistband is really quite revolting.

ktpie · 20/07/2008 19:09

I'm jealous of all of you wearing size 10 jeans, not sure I have ever fitted into size 10, 12 is a distant memory and I would be more than happy with 14!
My current favourite trousers are maternity ones from gap with a wide elastic waistband, hold the tummy together nicely!

My mastitis seems to have cleared up now (sympathies greenfairy, I felt rotten for a few days, have you got any antibiotics yet?), the nipple is still a bit sore on that side so I got some breast shells yesterday and that seems to be doing the trick, it seems to keep the nipple damp and stop it getting a hard scab on it which means latching him on doesn't hurt so much, it also seems to be healing. Feeling a lot better in myself now.

Have my first visit from the health visitor on tuesday then on wednesday I'm going to stay with my mum for the weekend while DH does a 12 hour mountain bike race down south. Bit confused as to how I agreed to that but I think I was expecting LO to be 2 weeks older at this point!

poppy34 · 20/07/2008 20:46

so many posts... had mil round last week and my dad/his girlfriend today plus struggling with the mastitis still (felt like rubbish yesterday ..despite industrial strength antibiotics and had to go upstairs for a cry after mil implied that lump was clearly something serious... am stressed enough waiting for bloody hospital appt as it is plus now have thrush due to antibiotics and they seem to be doing no good...).

Anyway rant over -edie defo on a growth spurt... shifting serious amounts of food and even though I know lots of people warned me I'm astonished at how quickly she is going. tried really hard today to get her to keep awake for afternoon but will settle earlier in evening (last night wasnt settled til midnight after long afternoon nap so we drew the line on that to try and get her settled earlier even if takes some effort).

TMI - does anyone know if when the post natal bleeding should stop.. just over 3 weeks on and still coming adn I assume sex out of question til its stopped? Meant to ask GP the other day but wasnt usual one..

Essie3 · 20/07/2008 21:09

Greenfairy sorry to hear about the mastitis. Also shocked - I sort of thought it was only something you got in the first few weeks. Hm, need to keep an eye on that.

Poppy Iestyn is 5 weeks tomorrow, and I'm not bleeding. But following on from that question...the foul-smelling discharge after the bleeding has stopped (I'm assuming this is normal?) when does that stop?

Iestyn is just not settling tonight. Tried feeding, tried the dummy (but he prefers DH's finger) and he keeps fussing and squealing. I'm really really panicky because DH is away for 2 nights from tomorrow. My first time alone. I'm not so worried about the nights, it's just settling him. We had every intention of going to bed early today...

Neenztwinz · 20/07/2008 21:10

Greenfairy that's totally shit about the mastitis. I think feeding is the way to get rid of it. Do you think it was the 5oz of milk that got her to sleep? Was she hungry then? It is so hard to know isn't it?

Paro yes, I give them ebm cos they were very unsettled in the evenings and I felt they were hungry. They'd have their bath at 5.30pm, then feed, then would go to sleep, but they'd be awake again within an hour and then would feed and cry all evening. Since I have been giving them 3oz of ebm each (plus top-up if needed) they have settled really well in evenings. They don't always sleep all evening but if they do wake they are not crying, they just sometimes want to be sociable. We don't mind bringing them down if they just want to sit in their recliners and doze. They are both asleep in their recliners down here now! Hope she like her cot - I am sure she will.

allnew 30ml at a time is not unusual - are you expressing before or after a feed? It is actually better to do it before cos baby is much better at getting milk than the machine. Don't express too much tho cos there might be none left for baby! Try 30ml and if baby then goes happily from that feed to the next (ie 3hrs) then you have not expressed too much. Every few days you could try expressing a bit more. An electric pump will get more and is quicker than manual.

Yes visitors are a pain - I find them so tiring.. esp when they turn up unannounced ie my PILs almost every day.

Poppy we also try to keep DTs awake for parts of the day and found it does help (it is bloody hard tho and we find if they really want to sleep nothing will stop them!) I think my heavy-ish bleeding stopped by 4 weeks but I was still getting pink discharge two weeks later. We didn;t have sex when properly bleeding but did when it was just pink-ish.

I have been alseep for five hours today - thank you DH! Had bad night last night - Esther didn't settle till 3.30am, then Theo woke for a feed so didn;'t get to sleep till 4am. Then DTs were awake again just after 7am. [groan emoticon]

Neenztwinz · 20/07/2008 21:12

Essie Sounds like you need a vibrating recliner!

Amberc · 20/07/2008 21:15

Essie I PML at Sharts!!! Luke does them all the time - brilliant!

Coil Q - how the bejeezus do they get it out - excuse me for being a bit stupid but have no idea!! DP and I were thinking condoms, as before PG we just used the withdrawal method and seemed to work fine for 5 years until we chose to get PG. CANNOT get PG now due to C section so will need something more reliable - can you have a coil with a C section - scar tissue and all that? I know a coil is hard to put in when you are a baby making virgin but once one's popped one out and everything's a bit slack (!!) it's really easy (like dangling a string in the albert hall!).

I have 2-3 stone to lose - i will find it hard as most low cal meals need preparing and I can't be arsed at the mo (and can't do it one handed) so tend to eat pasties and complete crap like frankfurters which are not diet friendly! I still can't get into my size 16 elastic knickers (was 12/14 before). Perhaps it's a good thing as they are simply the ugliest underwear I have ever owned - even worse than my grey period pants!

Neenz - my LO hates his vibrating chair - is he too young (5 wks)?

Poppy - my bleeding has just stopped at 5 weeks - however I feel like my period is coming!!

neenz thanks for tip.. and glad you had nice sleep today (tiring enough with one let alone two up at night). Agree those recliners are very good... also we got a really cheep fleecy mat thing (looks like fake sheepskin) edie quite happily naps/relaxes on that if she gets the chance.

greenfairy sympathies re mastitis..feeding does help (someone on here suggested using rugby ball hold as drains better) also cabbage leaves/cold packs can help relief.

Neenztwinz · 20/07/2008 21:58

Amber maybe your LO just won't take to it... mine are nearly 11 weeks so maybe try him when he is a bit older? They were more than happy in just the recliner when younger, before we got the vibrating one.

poppy34 · 20/07/2008 22:21

yep...edie doesnt like vibrating bit on chair and has had to progress gradually (hated it at first and certainly didnt like the mobile attachemnt) -you can ween them on to it

hedgehog1979 · 20/07/2008 22:32

Sympathies on the mastitis TGF have not had it yet (touch wood) but have got a very sore nipple at the moment and am going to ring the GP in the morning to see if it is worth trying to get an appointment before I see the HV on Tuesday pm.

Have been to Brighton this afternoon, nice walk along the sea front with DH and Isaac (we must do it more often). However DH had an ulterior motive, turns out an old uni friend was in town for a couple of days and wanted to meet up for a drink, fine. But that drink turned into several, and DH walking me back to the train station so he could carry on drinking, aggggghhhhh.

This led to me clearing a carriage on the first capital connect train - Coz LO wanted feeding, then meeting the rudest women in the world whom I asked to help me off the train with the pram, and instead barged past to get on the train. I also pondered on the way home how I have no problems with feeding in public but was to embarrassed to ask someone to help me down the stairs with the pram until a lovely man offered.

Am now snuggled up in bed enjoying some skin to skin with a starving baby, and watching Dexter, waiting for the banging on the door that means DH wants letting into the house as we only took one set of house keys out with us!!!

Sorry for the long post, needed to have a little rant too.

spongebrainbigpants · 20/07/2008 22:35

katyjo, I had a Mirena coil which I think has progesterone in it:

link here for info

Amber, the coil has a string on it which they just pull and out it comes! The removal was incredibly easy and straightforward.

Essie, foul smelling discharge sounds like an infection to me but I'm no expert. May be worth getting it checked out though.

Alex had his longest sleep ever today - over 5 hrs! Why can't he do that at night, bless him! Shame though, cos his great granddad came to visit today and Alex slept all the way through his visit!

poppy34 · 20/07/2008 22:40

hi Sponge -hope alex is encouraged that sleeping is good now and doesnt give you too much hassle tonight .. and thanks Essie etc for advice..its not bleeding as such.. just what looks like old blood and only minimal really.

hedgehog if he is much later I'd be inclined to let him kip in the street...

Coil stuff all very interested but was put off by a friend who fainted when she had hers fitted (very as she ended up getting someone to drive her home as felt so bad)

hedgehog1979 · 20/07/2008 22:52

poppy thinking about letting him sleep out there at the moment - he is in the process of building a new greenhouse so would be able to kip in that. Hope it doesn't rain though as no glazing in it yet
