Hi - anyone fancy making up a thread for babies born this month? My dd (child no 4 ) was born on 6th Jan - I have had a rough time so far with feeding (cracked nipples etc) but things have started to improve now (I think). if only I could get her to sleep at night....

Has anyone else's little one gone off their food in the heat? E will still take most of her bottle but is only having half of her weaning food this week (I presume due to heat as she had been eating more before). She also still refuses to drink water and even baby juice. Would love to get some liquid into her in this heat, anyone else having this problem or have any ideas?

kazoo · 23/06/2005 15:48

Dd is eating and drinking less in this hot weather and waking up early again. However she will drink water inbetween feeds so not too bad. Sorry dizzymama not sure what to suggest as dd has been drinking water since 2wks old.

dizzymama · 23/06/2005 16:35

Oh bum! she'll dehydrate at this rate. I shall persevere Kazoo, wish me luck!

Hi everyone. I'm new to this thread. DS born on 22nd of Jan. Like you, Pollyanna, he's my fourth. 10lbs at birth - now well over 20. Like carrying a big bag of spuds around, except sweaty! I also had bad cracked nipples and thrush inside ducts for 6 weeks at begining. Agony! Never had previous BF trouble. All fine now though. Thinking of starting solids. They say 6 months and with previous babes I've waited 8-10 months but he's such a bruiser and I need SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz...

dizzymama · 23/06/2005 18:08

Welcome spidermama, this is a great thread to discuss the littl'uns and development, problems etc. I've found it very handy. 10lbs is too painful to think about, did you have a natural birth? E was born by c section after 12 hours of labour at 8lb 5oz and that was bad enough! Started E on solids a couple of weeks ago and so far all is going well, but she'sstill up early int the mornings . She isn't having much though.

dizzy just to let you know i'm also having great trouble trying to get my ds to drink water or juice and like you i'm getting worried with it being so hot

dizzymama · 23/06/2005 18:25

Whilst I'm not glad your ds isn't drinking water, I'm glad I'm not alone IYSWIM! Have no idea what to do, it was ok when it wasn't so hot but surely it can't be good now. Will he drink juice or that flavoured baby water janbo?

dizzymama · 23/06/2005 18:26

Sorry just reread your post where you answer that question! It's too hot for my brain (and I'm not called dizzy for nothing)

spidermama · 23/06/2005 19:11

Yes Dizzy the delivery was natural and in my sitting room....But OUCH! Fourth time round I'm a bit stretched, but it still hurt a lot. Back to back. Very sore but mercifully short (about 4 hours). He's just had part II of his carrot and the feeding's going well. Otherwise he's just on breast so really hard to tell how much liquid he's getting down. Certainly not weeing as much as before. I guess we have to trust them to take what they need and if they seem alright in themselves they probably are.

Pollyanna · 23/06/2005 19:36

Hello everyone (and hello chiropody4, fairi and spidermama) - Spidermama how did you manage to wait 10 months before giving food? I am finding it very difficult with dd3 - she is feeding every hour practically (although I suppose that could be the heat too). dd3 still isn't moving at all - I mentioned this to the HV, who just told me to "enjoy my baby!"

Oh but she has started saying "mamamama..." - I like to think she is calling me when she says it, but it is probably completely random!

There's no way I could go to ten months with this bruiser. There are kids walking and talking who weigh less than him. I started him on solids yesterday but I feel a bit guilty, as if I'm failing him. My husband just weighed him and he's 11kg! He's right off the chart. I heard the charts from the HV are out of date and based on bottle fed babies, which tend to be heavier. Can anyone confirm this?

spidermama · 23/06/2005 21:45

By the way, Pollyanna, my ds3 isn't moving either but I think it's harder for them to shift when they're heavy. He can just about roll over but is then stranded. Does everyone still have HV visits? Mine stopped months ago.

Janbo25 · 23/06/2005 22:30

dizzy i've been recommended cantaloupe melon for my ds let it go really ripe and then give him a piece to suck and because it's so soft it's fine for him eat and swallow plus becuase the majority of it is water he is still getting liquid as well

kazoo · 24/06/2005 09:02

Spidermama, my dd is also v. big. She can't sit up, can just about roll over and gets fed up lying on her tum because her head is so heavy to support. Her bum is also too big for her bumbo seat. I have got round the lack of mobility by putting her in a babywalker. I know they are frowned upon but I used one with ds and it didn't hamper his walking or cause any accidents. Anyway she loves it and can now move forwards and backwards around the room and she enjoys the freedom it gives her.
My hv has only visited twice since the birth but I can see her at baby clinic every wk if I want too.

spidermama · 24/06/2005 12:09

Good idea Kazoo. We haven't much space for a baby walker but I can get the door swing/bouncer out from the attic. He'll love it.

angie0201 · 24/06/2005 15:40

Hi am having trouble with getting water or juice in DD 2 and am v worried bout the hot weather 2. DD has been going off her milk in this weather so is getting less fluids not more. Although loves her solids and recognises her bowl and knows what is coming so i put a bit of juice in there after her solids and takes it from her spoon really well, then she got to like the taste of it and will take it out a bottle now, i know its not ideal but its a case of having it in a bottle or not at all at the mo!

dizzymama · 25/06/2005 09:43

Janbo, that's a great idea about the melon, will give it a go.
Angie,I'd never thought about that approach (with the bowl) but will certainly give that a go too. see, this is why mumsnet is so great!

angie0201 · 28/06/2005 20:14

It is a great group to be apart of i've found it so helpful. i've also tried the melon idea fantastic by the way. i have just put DD in her own room and it seems to have made her even more grown up is it just me or is it so sad how quick time is going thought about it today and in a week DD is 6 months i still remember her kicking me!

fairi · 28/06/2005 21:50

How are your little ones sleeping at night? How many wake ups? And during the day - how many sleeps?

My ds2 wakes at least twice for a feed between 8pm and 5 am and more often if uncomfy for any reason. During the day he only tends to have one sleep and two if I'm lucky - more often for a half an hour - if very lucky for 2 hours... any tips/ideas?

angie0201 · 28/06/2005 21:58

have been v lucky with dd goes to bed at 630-7 and wakes at 5 but not for a feed plays in the cot for a bit then goes back to sleep to 7. in the day sleeps at 930, 1230 and 330 40 mins each sleeps. the only tip i can give is try to stick to a routine well at least that is what works for dd i'm not saying it for all children mine mine def thrives on it

dizzymama · 29/06/2005 09:24

Hi fairi, my Dd has been pretty good at night, she goes down around 7:30/ 8:00 pm and doesn't really wake up till 6:30 / 7:30 am. During the day it is a different matter I fight her daily to get her to have a nap! We try for two hours after whenever she woke up (usually for 45 mins) and an early afternoon one. Quite often I have to leave her to cry in the cot a bit before she goes off, I hate doing this but she is SOOOOOOO niggly if she doesn't have her nap.

luvlymum · 29/06/2005 15:15

Hi everyone, just found this site, its great! I had my baby daughter in January so would love to join in, shes my first baby by the way and totally gorgeous!!

dizzymama · 29/06/2005 15:45

Welcome luvlymum! You'll find lots of really interesting information and friendly banter here. How are you adapting to motherhood then? I'm beginning to find it easier as I get to know E better each day. Ilove her to bits, she's gorgeous (as every Mumthinks!) don't want to go back to work in September!

luvlymum · 29/06/2005 20:44

I'm loving spending all my time with my baby and agree its easier now, but I am still quite tired, dreading going back to work too!

dizzymama · 29/06/2005 20:50

When are you due to go back? I'm back in September but have just had it agreed that I can go back two days a week, it doesn't seem too bad now (but would still rather be at home with E). Will you go back full or part time, if you don't mind me being so nosey!
