Hi - anyone fancy making up a thread for babies born this month? My dd (child no 4 ) was born on 6th Jan - I have had a rough time so far with feeding (cracked nipples etc) but things have started to improve now (I think). if only I could get her to sleep at night....

Sleeping actually became worse for first two wks of weaning. Dd was waking at 1:30 and again at 5:30. She has now settled a bit and sleeps from 6-6 and occasionally on very light mornings wakes at 5:30. But when I think back this coincided with the warmer weather we had and with being so big she sweats loads so maybe it was the weather and not the weaning.

have done a thread on this but little response was just wondering how much are the people who are weaning their babes giving them, i've been doing it for close to 4 weeks and she is a little monkey sure she would eat a whole mashed banana given half the chance

s13 · 16/06/2005 20:35

hi angie, we are on third week. dd is only having 3-4 teaspoons baby rice in morning and about same fruit or veg at tea-time.

angie0201 · 16/06/2005 20:41

How much milk are you giving her if you dont mind me asking ?

karma how much food does serena eat? really worried madison is being a piggy!

dizzymama · 16/06/2005 21:39

Angie, I worry about this with Elewyn too. She LOVES food and would easily eat whatever I gave her. Usually she has about a quarter of pear or applemixed with a teaspoon of baby rice though. When do you know to give them more?

s13 · 16/06/2005 23:26

angie, she has 4 7oz bottles a day.

My ds also LOVES his food i weaned him at four months (adviced by th HV to do so) he has:
milk around 6.30 5oz
breakfast porridge at 7.30
milk at 11am 5oz
dinner eg. bannana custard
milk 3pm
tea mash and veg
milk at bedtime 7oz
I was worried about much he was having but his weight is right on the 75th centile which is the same at birth, i believe he has a much as he wants, he does stop when he is full.

kazoo · 17/06/2005 13:23

My dd has 4 8oz bottles of milk a day.
At 7a.m. she has 2 level tablespoons of a breakfast packet mix. At 11a.m. she has 2 tablespoons of pureed vegetables and at 6p.m. she has 2 level tablespoons of baby rice mixed with pureed fruit.

FionaJT · 17/06/2005 20:29

I've been worried about amounts too - only started weaning my dd last week (at 22 weeks) but she is wolfing it down without a second thought, and looks like she'd lick the bowl if I let her!! I started on 2 teaspoons of baby rice in ebm at lunch, and upped it to 3 after a couple of days as she was so keen. And yesterday (after a week) I started giving her a meal at teatime, of 2 tablespoons of sweet potato mixed with a teaspoon of baby rice in milk.
I don't want to take her too fast but she's clearly keen for more, and breastfeeding at least 2 hourly as well as several times at night

angie0201 · 17/06/2005 20:44

yeah that is exactly the same as DD dont want her to fill up too quickly on food and forget about the milk, i'm sure she would just eat solids given half the chance. she is starting to tell me now i think when she has had enough, think i will have to start with a third meal now. she has one at breakfast mango is her fav and one a tea but she is begining to cry for this one even though she has had a 8oz bottle the hour before. She is having 2 tablespoons for each meal i thought this was too much but thank you for what you have all said it is reassuring that others seem to be doing the same thing, i'm such a worrier you probably can tell but thanks so glad i found this site

Janbo25 · 20/06/2005 17:04

hi my ds is 24 weeks just about to change to 3 meals a day but he is eating loads i can fill a pot and he will eat and have a yoghurt as well, I'm worried that i may be giving too much because he doesn't seem to let me know when he has had enough, any ideas/tips?

angie0201 · 21/06/2005 09:01

Hi same prob too, what date was ur babe born my DD was on the 2nd. she will eat for england and i am putting her up to 3 meals today but what i find is that she doen't turn away from food like i was told she would but when she gets more full she slows down a lot and thats when i stop. you may find which i am hoping to is that when they are on 3 meals a day they wont take as much at each meal and spread it over 3. DD used to have breakfast and then tea so went a long time with no solids but i'm thinking if i give her dinner then she wont be so hungry at tea. hope this helps a bit good luck

Janbo25 · 21/06/2005 13:57

hi my ds was born the 7th 2 weeks late! I have tried him with lunch for the first time today so I will see what he is like at tea time but he's ate all his breakfast and dinner!

fairi · 21/06/2005 18:56

I'm new to this thread...I've only just thought about checking for a Jan postnatal group - been posting on other threads up till now. My ds2 was born on the 5th... he is a big smiler, with lovely dimples... but he has started becoming very vocal - sort of moany - very loud and pretty irritating (not cute and cooey) - I think its frustration at not being able to sit properly yet. Do yours get vocal like that? And are they sitting yet?

Janbo25 · 21/06/2005 19:12

hi fairi my son was born on the 7th and is exactly as you describe yours, it's good to know that there development is on track with others isn't it

angie0201 · 22/06/2005 09:17

Hi tried DD as well with dinner for the first time today not sure it made a lot of difference to her but she def needed it how did it go with ur babe janbo? oh and DD does moan sometimes esp when she is frustrated and cant quite roll over. She wants to be crawling and she gets frustrated and makes those sorts of noises when she cant. By the way fairi welcome to this group i find it v useful its great to talk to others who have children at the similar developmental stage

Janbo25 · 22/06/2005 12:35

dinner went well but he was slightly sickly, i've also stopped the dummy to it's now been 22 hours since he last had his dummy and it' going fairly well

kazoo · 22/06/2005 23:35

Here is dd with her enormous tongue on display.
Took a while to figure out how to get an image on here but here it is
the tongue

Janbo25 · 23/06/2005 09:04

aww she's really cute x

angie0201 · 23/06/2005 09:09

What a cutie, i'm glad my DD is not the only one who sticks her toungue out like that sometimes i think she should have been a snake the way it pops out and back in again!

Chiropody4 · 23/06/2005 13:11

Hi everyone, how are your little ones coping with the heat, my ds is very grumpy today, he is getting very frustrated when he lays down as he is getting too hot, he likes to stand all of the time, is anyone else having this problem. I think he would be walking if he could.

dizzymama · 23/06/2005 14:35

Hi Chiropody, E is suffering with her excema in the heat as she's getting sweaty and itchy. We're trying to keep her near a fan as often as possible! She's also waking up horribly early as it is so light in our bedroom even with the black out linings on the curtains!
Kazoo your little one is lovely and I take my hat off to you for working out how to attach an image, I still can't figure it out!
E still shows no signs of weight bearing, just happy to lie there although we are getting a bit more side to side movement now
