October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Only one wake here last night too but he was up for the day at 5.45 again. Have to say he goes to bed earlier than most of yours, around 7pm, but that means his longest period of sleep i'm still up for.
Booked DS2 swimming lessons for after easter, anyone else been yet?
Ds1 has tonscilitus and DD has been vomiting so its all fun round here.

biglips · 19/03/2005 19:00

at last, i had a good night sleep as baba slept thru ....

Geog - im ready to take baba swimming too, so gotta buy her the swim nappy protection next week....

Bellie · 21/03/2005 18:46

Geogteach - I have booked swimming lessons that start after Easter. Just one word of warning (not that you need it being on number three) - my friend ended in A&E with her dd having slipped in the changing rooms after swimming lessons - everything OK though but what a shock for her, dd and everyone that saw it happen!

geogteach · 21/03/2005 19:13

Ouch!
Must also get his last jab done before then.
Been to the farm today to do a recy for DS1's birthday party.
Seriously considering going back to work for the last half of next term, worth it financially if I can get the nursery to take all 3 children for just 6 weeks. Will get paid for all the holiday and then resign from the date i'm due back in September. May be tough but think its probably worth a try.

huppa · 21/03/2005 19:16

Must get round to signing up for a baby swimming class. I did it with dd and she loved it. We were at Centreparks at the weekend and ds came in the pool with us for a while. He looked a bit unsure at first, but was smiling by the end.

Beansprout - pleased to hear you´re making progress on the sleep front. Still waking twice a night here, but did sleep to 8am (normally 7am) while we were away - must have been the swimming .

beansprout · 21/03/2005 22:08

Bibi - much better thanks. Really appreciate you asking.
Geogteach - that has to be worth it, surely? Difficult 6 weeks though. Fingers crossed the nursery says "yep, no problem geogteach".

Swimming sounds good, will have to look into that one. Can't think where the nearest pool is though, there don't seem to be many around these days?!

Sleep improving. Bean still wakes up but I am only feeding him once in the night and the little lad is getting the message. I now think all my Christmases have come at once. Imagine what I'll be like if he actually sleeps through!!

And hey, I'm another one who is now planning her wedding!! We might have to start a whole new sub-thread on this one?!!

bibiboo · 21/03/2005 23:34

That's "no pressure" btw
See, weddings get me SO giddy!!!

jbadgirl · 22/03/2005 09:15

Congrats beansprout! another one i can compare notes with - lol!

Would love to take ds swimming but he would absolutely hate it.

Had our third theraplay session yesterday and ds went off with the physio while i had help filling in the dla form, lady who was helping thinks we have a good case of getting middle if not the high rate which is good but i wont count my chickens! Ds did really well in physio and his head control has improved even more since last week, he also saw the orthoptist, she was looking at his eyes and he favours one way and this may be that he is trying to see as his nystagmus seems to be more controlled!

After this we had the app. with the pead oh what fun, they mentioned again that the mri scan results show nothing conclusive and his chromasomes are "normal" we are still seeing the genetisist as he will look at ds and see if he can come up with anything, they said to try and wean him off his medication for his jitters as i am not sure if it is really effective but he gets sooo freaked out by his uncontrollable arms that we need to do something

Once home i felt like utter shit as they had really knocked the little confidence i had .... right out the window.

Im trying to keep my pecker up but its hard

cazzybabs · 22/03/2005 09:35

WOW - congratulations Breansprout - if you want to know about venues for a reception 30 miles in a cicrle round Birmingham or wedding photographes (along as we don't want the same one on the same date) I am your girl!

Have 3 weeks of easter holidays - its days like this I love teaching. Am spenind time taking Grace to nursery while I do some OU work and go swimming.

Bellie · 22/03/2005 10:10

Congratulations beansprout!! and glad to hear that the sleeping is improving too!

beansprout · 23/03/2005 09:20

Jbadgirl - sorry to hear you had such a difficult time. Hope that pecker is staying up.

Now have the Bean down to one night feed. Can I do a straw poll of who has babies that sleep through and who doesn't? Don't be embarassed now!!!

Thanks for your excitement about my pending nuptials

cazzybabs · 23/03/2005 09:38

40% of the time grace sleeps through, the rest she wakes about 4 for a 20 min feed. She goes to bed between 9.30-10.30 and wakes up between 7-8 (more like 7 if its a work day). she has a 2 hr sleep in the morning and then an hour in the afternoon, but sometimes its more.

jbadgirl · 23/03/2005 15:16

Well ds can sleep through sometimes but it really depends on how he does during the day, if he does well, he will go down at 7/8 and then wake at 5/6.

Every day is pretty much different! He hasnt had solids for a few days as he has been un interested and has a runny bum (result from anti biotics for chest infection i think).

He has been having a good week for feeding so far and will drink a bottle in around 20 - 30 mins which is very good for him, he still fafs around at the start but once he gets going he is well away.

Bit anxious as its my birthday on saturday and he is going to stay with his granma overnight while me and dp go out on the town (first time in about 14 months) in fact its our first time out together since ds was born.

huppa · 23/03/2005 18:28

Ds goes to bed at 7 and then I wake him for a feed before I go to bed. He still then wakes twice in the night and then sleeps through to 7. He has about 2 hours sleep in the morning and another hour in the afternoon.

Bellie · 23/03/2005 18:56

DD sleeps from 10.30 until 7.30-8.00. She has about an hour in the morning and hour at lunch and an hour in the afternoon, and then an hour between 8 and 10.30.
There is no consistency between any of the babies that I know so don't worry beansprout it will happen for you soon!!

Hellsy · 24/03/2005 09:26

Hello all, hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm new to this fantastic website and have a ds who was born in Oct 04. It's so nice to know that other ds/dd's are inconsistent in what they do. My ds is always in bed by 7pm, but then it's pot luck as to what happens for the rest of the night. I'm trying to wean him off the breast at the moment as I have thyroid problems and I just feel like I don't know what I'm doing anymore and am really blue about it today. I know it's all hormonal, but I haven't felt like this for a long time. Oops, didn't come on here to grumble, just wanted to say hello to other Oct mums

beansprout · 24/03/2005 09:55

Hi Hellsy, you are very welcome. You grumble away if you need to! I feel exactly the same today - like I don't know what I am doing. I really don't know if ds should be sleeping through or not. Seems that some do, the books think they should but many don't. Somewhere in there I feel it is my "fault" and am all over the place.

Am off to the cinema soon but am feeling guilty about that to, as for some reason I think I should be at home all day sleep training a baby that doesn't seem to want to sleep.

Can someone tell me if I am being ridiculous please? Or if not, what I could do?

Hi Hellsy & Welcome!
Must be something about the October babies - babymole sometimes sleeps thru and sometimes doesnt altho last nite was a good one - id didnt get up till 7.30 today - felt like the middle of the afternoon! He got weighed last week and is 17 1/2lb. He went for his practice at the childminders last week as am going back to work next week . He had a great time tho and didnt even cry (and more to the point he wasn't sick once!) Bought one of those all singing dancing reclining highchairs off ebay last week - bargain at £20! but its dead funny cos he tries to lie down and he puts his feet up on the tray altho i think because of the pain from his reflux i think this is the only way he can get comfortable. He's also learnt to blow rsapberries when he's eating, dead funny, not. Hope everyone is ok and wedding plans, hospital appts etc are going ok.

Hellsy · 24/03/2005 12:04

HAve just read some of the past chats you lot have been having - so impressed that people are actually planning weddings etc... My hubby and I a tiny wedding with just immediate family when I was 9 weeks preg and we had planned to have a blessing this July, but cancelled it as I didn't think (couldn't be arsed!) I could get everything organised in time We decided we'd renew our vows in the years to come....

Been swimming with ds this morning - had to get out of the house - has cheered me up no end. Thanks for the messages - enjoy the cinema beansprout, can't remember what they're like!

Bellie · 24/03/2005 17:49

Bean - son't go beating yourself up - enjoy the cinema - anything good?

beansprout · 24/03/2005 17:52

5x2 - brilliantly depressing French film which starts with a divorce, and then goes back and gives us key moments from the relationship (birth of child, wedding, meeting etc). Bean quite enjoyed it although I felt a bit awkward when they were shagging...

geogteach · 24/03/2005 19:58

Bean DS2 has NEVER slept through, last week thought I was getting somewhere with one wake then up for the day at 5.45, but even that has gone now. Last night bed at 7pm (thats about as consistent as it gets), feed at 12, up to play between 3 and 5 then back to bed till 8. Today he has slept for 40 mins. I think I am being paid back for the fact that my first baby slept, through the night and my second took regular day time naps (but didn't sleep at night), this one is all over the place. I for one know that if I stayed in sleep training the men in white coats would soon be at the door, going out is what keeps me sane
I too am amazed that anyone is managing to plan a wedding, mine was 10 years ago! I'm having trouble getting my head round planning a forth birthday party
Plans for my temporary re-entry into the world of work are continuing, nursery have space on Tues, Wed and Thurs now need to get work to agree that those are the day I work, then work out how to get DS1 from pre-school to the nursey in the middle of the day... to be continued

biglips · 27/03/2005 23:26
