October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Rickman - think there's a really horrid bug going round at the moment dd2 (8) has it - thought she was better and sent her school today only to get a phone call to say could i fetch her as really poorly so had to drag ds 1 (6) out, he's gone down with it and ds 2 who's had the squits on and off for a few days. Work is starting to look appealing - am going back next week. dd2 has had headache, really high temp and puking and squits - ds1 has as well but not as bad (yet!. ds2 has always sounded like he should be on a park bench with a bottle of diamond white and packet of woodbines. i mentioned to paediatrician when we went about his reflux and he said it was because babies breathe thru their snouts and not their mouths till they get to about 6 months and every little snuffle sounds about 100 times worse. think he might be teething as is dribbling like buggery and keeps trying to gum people.

Beansprout I love my nursery. There is more than 1 person to deal with a cyring baby, more than 1 person if one carer gets sick, planning and activites are monitored by the head, lots of different toys, activites matched to early learning goals - I could go on! I def. prefer nursery to the idea of a child minder, but thats not to say all nurserys are good.

Anyway Grace is still bunged up and snoring like her dad amd still has gunky eyes (downside of nursery - they do pick up bugs. mind you dd1 has only had 1 day off sick!). She is lying on the floor playing with her squish - although she tells me she prefers plastic bags (I have had to move 2 out of the way) - for somebody that can't crawl she is very mobile. There are some out of date photos of her here .

Rickman - is your dd1 better (I look for your thread but couldn't find it).

Could we have a meet up int he summer - maybe in London? I don't drive so it would have to be somewhere accessible by car, although you are all welcome to come to Cambridge anytime?

biglips · 10/03/2005 21:06

cazzy - very pro site of your family!, gorgeous kids thou... i played the sounds of Grace talking on my computer and my DD just went silent (thinking 'where that noise come from')

KathH · 10/03/2005 21:55

aahh (at photos that is) - we dont have many piccies of babymole as he's always got sick down him so have i come to that. what will i do when i'm back at work and no longer smelling of cottage cheese - altho tonite he managed to puke cauliflower cheese down me, had stupidly worn a white top. generally looking a bit of a tramp today and i had to bump into hv. no doubt have a big "looking like a minger and obviously not coping" stamp accross my file. dd2 and ds1 were whinging cos they didnt feel very well and right at crucial moment of bumping into hv i was screaming at them. expecting social services to knock at the door any moment (especially as have just sneaked into garden to have a crafty fag and half a can of stella - dh thinks he married very classy lady).

KathH · 10/03/2005 21:58

oh gawd - half a can of stella obviously gone to head as first bit of last message was meant to say i am beginning to wonder. slightly concerned now as i am a secretary and can no longer type.

cazzybabs · 10/03/2005 22:10

Kath .

UMMM stella - but is it not a little chilly to be in the garden?

KathH · 10/03/2005 22:12

ruddy freezing actually but sometimes needs must and all that!

cazzybabs · 10/03/2005 22:13

Who had the other half?

KathH · 10/03/2005 22:16

i just have!

cazzybabs · 10/03/2005 22:24

We are out of beer and infact dp is grwoing at me that I should get off munset and into bed - ahh the joys of parenthood when 10.30 is late to bed!

KathH · 11/03/2005 06:56

and 7.15am is considered a lie in.

biglips · 11/03/2005 10:39

i woke up early today - 8am - as ive got the builders from Warmfront doing my house (draughtproofing and loft insulation) to keep house warm --- aaaaahhhhhhhh!

mum is coming home today from France for good as her and her fella werent working out (they have been together for 2.5 yrs) so she is staying here till she find her feet as she got no house, no job, just nothing as she sold her house to move to France and they had bought a barn to convert it to a house so that still need finishing. so mum got off the ferry and is down south to drive all the way to liverpool today

bibiboo · 11/03/2005 11:51

Beautiful children Cazzybabs!!!

Everyone okay today? I am feeling top-notch today for some unknown reason, but i'm sure it won't last

bibiboo · 11/03/2005 15:10

Hey, where is everyone???
The good mood didn't last by the way - we're going over MILs for tea tonight. Free food bit = yay! But am not getting along with MIL lately, so biting-tongue-yet-again bit = booooo!

jbadgirl · 11/03/2005 15:13

Im here!

cazzybabs · 11/03/2005 16:06

Grace's sleeping didn't last long - she work up at 4 this morning - AHHHHH. I am tired and in need of something sweet.

beansprout · 11/03/2005 17:56

Chocolaaaaaate

CB - thanks for reminding me why I chose a nursery. All good reasons!! And you are a beautiful family!!
KathH - lol at your not coping minger. Similarly, I used to wear my hair "up" but now "scraped back" describes it a bit better.

Not too bad here. Ds will thank me for this - his poo has completely changed texture in a matter of days. Well I never Tis now a pastey sort of a number. That's my boy!

Anyone else for a meet up? I have a car so me and the Bean are pretty mobile (promise not to bang on about anyone's poo).

Got an appointment through for the genetisist this morning - at last!!!

Seeing him in april!!

cazzybabs · 12/03/2005 10:21

jbadgirl - are you worried seeing the genetist - or do you think it will provide answers?

geogteach · 12/03/2005 19:12

Jdbadgirl we saw a geneticist a couple of weeks ago so if you've got any questions ask away.
Bean you know i'm with you on the nursery issue, i'm even quite sad to think that DS1 will leave in the summer he's all grown up!
As always i'm up for a meet up kids and hospital appointments permitting.
Talking of which had a nightmare at the audiologist on Wednesday which still isn't resolved so another trip will undoubtedly be necessasry. On Monday DS2 goes for his developmental assessment in an attempt to make sure that whatever is wrong with his thumbs is not connected to any other problem that has not been identified. If the nhs did loyalty cards i'd be rolling in points!

biglips · 12/03/2005 19:50

my DD has her hearing test when she was 4 months old ,4 months wait!! not impressed as i was nervous as im born deaf but not gentically so she passed her hearing test (phew!) so HV gotta come to our house when DD is 8 months old to check again.

biglips · 12/03/2005 19:56

geog - your DS2 thumbs gentically or dont you know?.... my cousin who is 11 this year was born without knuckles and he had problems holding sisscors or little things... (it was gentically thru my Grandad which is my mums dad who had a cleft palate) and one mums side there is a syndrome that my cousins had got.. 1 of them had severe goofy teeth that she had to wear a helmet braces, the other is over 6 foot tall and got very long limbs but her arms not straight just abit twisted - cant really noticed thou and she got a small head and face and ove side of her face is higher than the other...

jbadgirl · 12/03/2005 21:24

Cazzybabs - Im just glad that the nhs are doing all they can and possibly rule out or find out if there is anything wrong. Am a little anxious but they may have answers.....not counting my chickens though!

Geogteach - Thankyou!

Well we have had a s*t couple of days with ds, and it does p*s me off when dps mate seems to really enjoy being very competitive over his dd. She can do this now and ooh shes cutting her first tooth etc.

Sorry had to have a moan but its so hard looking after ds on a daily basis: feeding - complete nightmare, cant put him down cos he has no control over his limbs which jitter constantly and this freaks him out, bathing - another complete nightmare, going out in the pushchair - unless he is asleep he cries and i get stares from people. I wish we could lend him to them for a day and then they would really appreciate and understands how hard it is for us and poor little ds.

Sorry again for the rant and moan!

Hope everyone is ok x
