fitnforty - let us know what the amber teether/seller is like, might get one for dd3 when she starts.

izzy is no where near sleeping through, she normally goes down at 8 ish the wakes at 4am (dreamfeed or not) then wakes properly at about 7, my other 2 never slept through till at least one though so im not expecting it for a while yet.

ive got a bumbo seat but i havent used it yet, izzy can hold her head up but doesnt seem very strong yet i feel that at 12 weeks shes still too little. i used one for dd2 though and it was great she keeps sitting in izzys and shes 3 so i imagine they last a long time.

ive just picked up a bargin from a friend, the maxi cosi seat, isofix base and cameleon adapters for £70. its freaking me out a bit though cos even though i know it definitly fits my car im not comfortable with the lack of seat belt yet!!! also the car seat seems abit rattley in the base, has anyone else got one of these??

agree totally about the magazines with the skinny 19 yr olds in, it always gets me as well the articles about such and such a celeb who has there baby and loses a stone in a week. they put it across as being a miricle but most mums lose a stone fairly quickly because of the weight of the baby etc. and then theres the skinny mares who are stick thin within 2 weeks of giving birth and make your own love handles seem huge in comparison!!! im starting spinning classes at the weekend so hopefully i can be stick thin and smug too

3madboys · 13/06/2008 17:29

thanks fo rthe link fitnforty, the honey coloured amber teething necklace is IDENTICAL to the one i got from green baby, so i think i shall order that one, the clasp etc all looks the same ds3 is quite adamant that ds4 cant wear his so i shall def be getting a new one, just need to sort my paypal account out tho as i have a new debit card so i need to unregister the old out of date one and add the new one, wonder how long it will take me to figure out how to do that [hmm}

anyway R still a happy little chap, am currently waiting for todays poo explosion, he tends to do just the one a day and my word they are gross.

oh and R is officially too long for his carrycot, which is a pita, his head touches one end and his feet the other, however he isnt supposed to go in the bugaboo seat till he is 6mths, he will be exactly three months this sunday, so what am i supposed to do for the next three months?

HolidaysQueen · 13/06/2008 18:03

e14mum - 12 weeks was my goal too. Hurray to you for achieving it! We'll come back from hols then, so I'll re-evaluate but his weight gain this fortnight has given me a timely boost I would love to maintain some level of breastfeeding until weaning but 12 weeks is my main goal for now.

MB - I promise to swim for you, provided I remember to pack my swimming costume! We have a gorgeous pool in our villa and we have grandparents there for quite a bit of the holiday so there'll be plenty of hands to hold DS while I swim and swim and swim...

Nowhere near packed, and timewasting on here instead. I was just sorting out my hand luggage and realised that there was no point putting the usual iPod and novel in there!

ta to those who tried voting, unfortunately yes you need to register on the site (which is odd since i managed to log out and vote while logged out!).

Teething thing -will let you know, it'll obviously take a bit longer to get here as it's European post. Mind you, that may be quicker than UK given the standard of some of our deliveries!

HQ you really are living up to your name aren't you HAve a fab time, hope the weather there is better than a few weeks ago when my in-laws were over there...wettest weather in 100-odd years allegedly .

Eddie has his first passport! Only dropped the application in last Saturday, it was delivered by hand this morning...impressive given the time of year. Just want his birth cert back now, paid extra for that as special delivery, sod's law it'll go to the wrong address knowing our postie

HQ - wow, well done on 1lb in a fortnight! I'm trying not to build up my hopes too much for when I next get her weighed.

I have a question about growth spurts. You know the way some of you (turtle, merryberry I've heard you both talking about this) end up sitting under the baby for extra hours?

Well with us it's more like her feeds are just more intense, i.e. out of a half hour (or so) feed she'll be actually feeding properly for most of it instead of lots of faffing and mooching about. But then after a few days of this brilliant feeding she really tails off and seems to find the let down (i.e. milk spraying everywhere) a little too strong. On these days I worry that she's not eating enough. Does anyone else have this? Maybe this isn't even a growth spurt and she's not having any.

fnf1 - DD got her passport a couple of weeks ago. I find it hilarious, a proper passport with a little baby's photo in it. So cute and so ridiculous.

merryberry · 14/06/2008 10:04

oh lucky you skidoodle, that's what i say! on non-growth spurt days, it sometimes seems to me impossible, especially with short, light pm feeds, that gg has taken enough, but he still sleeps for hours at night so i think he must do. does yours?

spugs · 14/06/2008 10:36

3boys - wow hes tall isnt he, iz still fits in hers (weve got a cam) but shes getting sick of not being able to see whats going on! im thinking of sticking a foam wedge under the mattress to prop her up a bit! you could always try him in the seat and see if hes comfy etc. if hes the size of a 6 mth old then i cant see why not

turtle23 · 14/06/2008 11:18

skidoodle-My letdown is permanently on full these days. If you express a little first or lean back they don't find it as boggling. I wouldn't worry about LO unless the nappies dry up.
As for length of babies...are there still babies in their moses baskets/carrycots?! Pascal has been sleeping in cot and sitting semi-up in pushchair/in sling facing forward for a while now. He's too long for 3-6 month clothes and when I tried to shove him in moses basket while I was clearing loft o make space for it it was hilarious!!

3madboys · 14/06/2008 17:02

yes spugs he is very long, over the 99 percentile on the chart, same with his head circumference and weight, he has outgrown lots of 6-9mth clothes, tis a bit riddiculous given that he is 3mths tomorrow.

the thing with the seat is that it is bucket shaped and so although it reclines it doesnt lie flat and he does have at least one if not two big sleeps in it during the day, i think its imp for him to be bying flat for this? mind you when awake he is desperate to be sitting up, so he may quite like the seat?

if all fails i have a loola and that reclines more and he has been in that, but the problem with that is the bugaboo board doesnt attach to it and ds3 has broken a bone in his foot and so needs to be on the buggyboard and not walking..... arghhhhh the joys of having manically active three year old, whats worse is his foot was broken for four days before we took him to casualty, however they wont put it in a cast as his bones are soft and will heal without a cast as long he rests his foot, HA HAthis is the three yr old that wont even sit still for a milisecond to watch tv so getting him to rest is proiving a nightmare, we have ended up taking him out in the car for a drive as at least being strapped into his car seat forces him to rest.

turtle we have never used a moses basket as the orams we have had have always had a carrycot, or gone flat, plus moses baskets arent very long, and all the boys have been big, tho ds4 is the biggest of the lot. i visited a friend a few weeks ago and he was the same length as her ten month old
people are always amazed when i say how old he is as he looks much older. i shall have to work out how to get a pic up on profile, maybe a thumb sucking one as he looks SOOOOOOO cute

right ds3 needs more calpol as his foot his hurting, need to get ds4 to have a nap and sort dinner etc, dp at work till tomorrow evening, how i love that he works for social services......

skidoodle · 14/06/2008 19:19

merryberry yes, she sleeps from 11.30 to 7am and has been doing that for around 4 weeks or so now. It didn't occur to me to see that as evidence of not being hungry, but I guess it makes sense.

turtle - good to know I'm not alone on the full-on let down front. I will try leaning back. I do sometimes express but sometimes I am not allowed to delay feeding for such things ;)

As to length - DD is very long but she still fits in her pram carrycot, although may not for much longer. I can't see it lasting until 6 months, and like you 3MB, that's what I was expecting and I'm similarly reluctant to put her in a seat soon.

We didn't really use a moses basket either. She's been in her cot since we brought her home. The cot is in our room so it made sense to just put her straight there.

She's also getting so her bath is too short. It's long enough to function as a place to wash her, but she can't do her swims anymore and it's just not as much fun for her as it used to me. Unfortunately we don't have a bath tub. We've bought her some swimming nappies so hopefully she'll like the pool.

timmyinatizzy · 14/06/2008 21:30

3MB we have poo explosions too. DS once went from a Friday morning until the Monday morning without one, and then boy did he do one!!! It seems as if once a day is all he needs to do now. But they do tend to go everywhere when he does do one.

Can't believe how big your babies are. DS is on the 25% for weight, but on the 75% for length. So at the moment he is a skinny baby. Not sure who he takes after there as neither me or DH are tall

Had a thought the other day that this about the same time as last year that DS was conceived. How strange is that. Can't believe that a year has gone by so quickly.

fitnfortyone · 14/06/2008 22:27

ooh yes Timmy, I reminded DH 2 days ago that it was the anniversary of DS's conception...well, it was either that day (per the scans) or tonight (by my reckoning)! I don't think the pregnancy went fast at all, dragged with me mostly. Maybe only feels like that as i went 13 days over

Knackered again today - DH was on "duty" overnight and despite over a week of sleeping through, DS woke at 3.30 ish this morning. Even with earplugs in I heard him and woke up before DH...are they just genetically programmed to sleep through anything

OP posts:
3madboys · 15/06/2008 10:53

i think that yes men are genetically programmed to sleep through, i havent even bothered asking dp to do the night shifts as there is NO way he would wake up at all on a plus side dp will take the boys out in the morning for a few hours so i can catch up on some sleep then

3madboys · 15/06/2008 11:10

oh i meant to say i have joined slingmeet the forum it seems really good for tips and hints to do with slings, carriers, and all sorts of other things too, MUCH quieter than mumsnet, lol so dont expect immediate replies but there are lots of threads that you can browse over to get info etc

fitnfortyone · 15/06/2008 20:10

sussed out the baby website thing, you don't need to register with them at all, but either cookie security is set high, or you get errors if you input the wrong validation letters then try to reinput by reloading the page in some way.
Just as well it's 1 vote per pc per day

If anyone's still with me on this :)

OP posts:
merryberry · 16/06/2008 11:09

aw, we've got a cold. having to weild the snot sucking bulb for gg, poor lamb, and lots of comfort cuddles. on the upside for me, my immune system must be busy fighting it off, as i've got no joint pain whatsover - usually i have this mild rheumatoid pain all the time. but not today! i can curl my hands into tight fists and do poppers up easily. its a lovely change

turtle23 · 16/06/2008 12:04

Hurrah! Just signed up for doula training course. Feels good to be doing something for myself.

fitnfortyone · 16/06/2008 15:15

well done turtle, don't think i'd have the energy to be a doula! You'll get plenty of practice on the "am i in labour" threads, just remember to keep the kettle on constantly and lots of virtual cake and toast things

OP posts:
merryberry · 16/06/2008 16:47

TMI alert, this is gross but kind of revenge funny...my nose is running so fast i keep getting caught out away from the 3 boxes of tissues scattered around the house, and both my children now have snot stains from me on their clothes...really makes up for the posset (baby) and beetroot juice (toddler) marks I am sporting.

turtle23 · 16/06/2008 16:52

MB- teehee..revenge is..snot! Sorry you're feeling rough though.

turtle23 · 16/06/2008 16:55

thanks fnf1. Quick survey, ladies: which alternative therapies etc would you most like a doula to be skilled in? Am doing the extra baby massage, breastfeeding, etc. but want to start doing something like reflexology. It's a long course, but fits in well with baby.

fitnfortyone · 16/06/2008 20:36

MB knock back plenty of liquids, good old lemon juice and manuka honey still the best (though i must confess pre- pregnant days I frequently resorted to antihistimines to keep my nose from dribbling everywhere!)

Turtle, reflexology would be brilliant, i'd have killed for regular sessions of that, only had one session though at about a week overdue.
Interestingly, the company i hired my birthing pool from was run by someone who was also a doula, so she rented out pools but gave free doula-ing advice to me as well, great for tips on how to avoid being induced etc...shame she lived so far away!

You could also think about training as a hypnobirthing practioner? I'm doing that in November. If you're a doula, you don't have to do an extra 2 day session which i'll have to do.

OP posts:
turtle23 · 16/06/2008 20:39

fnf1-fab idea. How'd you find that? Shame I'm so far away or I'd do it with you!
Keep the ideas coming, ladies!

turtle23 · 16/06/2008 20:40

wow, found it. £800 for 6 days...eek!

turtle23 · 16/06/2008 21:06

Oh dont want to get angry about tv...MY CHILD WONT EAT. Hmmmmm....grrr...
