Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

So I went to HV clinic today to talk about DS's semi-permanent cough. Whenever you go you have to get the baby weighed before yu can talk about other things so despite wanting to leave him for a few weeks, I found out he has put on only 5oz in 2 weeks and is now below 25th centile

Still, we now at least have a potential reason for his slow weight gain. After explaining the persistent cough, she asked if he was sick a lot, which he is. HV reckons he has reflux and the cough is because his throat is so irritated by all the sick and acids So we've got a dr's appt on Thursday to get Gaviscon and I've been told that there is no way I should wean until we have it sorted.

Anybody got any advice? I know a few people on here have had it. I feel with myself that I hadn't really spotted this sooner as in retrospect it's obvious - poor weight gain, cough for last 2-3 weeks, lots and lots of sick, fussing after feed if he's not upright. But he isn't a baby who cries or screams really so I had never really thought it was more than just usual baby fussing, and he always wants to be upright so just assumed post-feed fussing was him wanting to get back into his favourite position. Bad mummy

e14mum · 28/07/2008 19:44

Oh HQ, you are not a bad mum at all! Good it's all getting sorted now that's the important thing.

fnf1- sounds like a soap!

Spent the day under a tree in Greenwich park with my NCT girls and well behaved babies all around! Amazing really when you think of it, eh?

fitnfortyone · 28/07/2008 20:58

HQ, don't worry about not noticing it earlier, at least you know now what it is and can move forward. There seem to be so many things that can cause the same probs/symptoms it's impossible to tell

Meanwhile, heat, thunder and teething do not a happy baby make. He's finally gone off to sleep after crying for about 1 1/2 hrs and working up a real sweat. I may have to drag the air conditioner in from the garage even though it's a bit big for his room, but 27 degrees is a little warm overnight! Went for a weigh in today and he's dropped down below 50th c for first time, height has dropped as well but nice HVs weren't worried about it so I guess I shouldn't be either since he's otherwise happy!

MB & littleducks how's the potty training going?

timmyinatizzy · 28/07/2008 22:39

Luke was 13lbs 2 weeks ago at 17 weeks so he is on the 9th centile. He has dropped from the 25th since birth. I'm not too worried about it as he is feeding well. Although he had dropped his 12am to 2am feed quite a long time ago he has now rediscovered it. It means that I have started to feel a bit more tired, but thank god for the school holidays I can now lie in.

MrsPhas3 my hair has been falling out for about 2 and 1/2 weeks now. I'm having to clean out my hair brush everytime I use it. I too am hoping it will calm down soon.

I had the coil fitted last Thursday as I did want any 'accidents'. I didn't want to go down the hormonal method of contraception, so the coil was the only option.

We are seriously going to have to think about putting stair gates up sooner rather than later. Luke is very nearly crawling . He shuffles forwards, using his arms and can out himself up on his hands and knees from laying on his front. Not long now!

Eek too much rambling, must go and get some sleep.

Good luck to those who are potty training.

littleducks · 28/07/2008 22:53

To sum up my day:
wees in toilet: 4 (one of which was a drop for reward)
wees on floor: 3
wees in nappy (put on at bedtime): 1
poos in toilet:1
poos on floor: nil

so i think i am on the way

poor ds has been neglected as all accidents occur when dd doesnt have 100% attention

feeding lots, temp went on the scale on the themometer that came with sleeping bag the other night but storm is here now so hopefully that will ease

ds is also shuffling, crawling action but stomach firmly stuck to floor

littleducks · 28/07/2008 22:54

temp went off

merryberry · 29/07/2008 09:16

wees in potty: 1 (thru pants)
wees on floor: 8
poo in pants: 1
poo in nappy: 1 (had to go out unexpectedly)
cracks in my sanity: 3

sigh

gg's silent reflux (also a stoic baby, hid the fact he had it i think!) WAS RAPIDLY CURED WITH GAVISCON. oops caps lock. was instant relief i think (remember when we had it in pg!?) and quick healing throat. only needed to use the stuff a couple of weeks before he was better, no sign of it now. getting it into him the biggest problem, tastes, as we know, foul. if yours is bottlefed hq, qill be easy, if BF, harder, used a dosing syringe. any of the dose better than none. and endless uprightness helped.

HolidaysQueen · 29/07/2008 09:44

thanks MB - he gets formula at night and although that is meant to make them worse it is actually the one feed where he doesn't throw up or grumble a bit. the rest of the time it looks like we'll be dealing with a syringe. oh joy! I remember the one time we tried dentinox drops, where DS looked like he's been poisoned and we decided that dealing with his wind was easier than dosing him with that!

my DS is rather stoic as well - minor grumblings at most - which is why i'd never really thought too much about it. he's such a sunny, bright little boy that we feel really sad that he's been suffering in silence.

oh well, better go and rescue him from his nap as he's shouting for me. we're off to kew gardens now with NCT buddies, and I'm praying the rain holds off in west London as i'm also planning to walk there and back!

merryberry · 29/07/2008 10:04

never needed to gove gg all the doses recommended in 24 hrs, so with the bottle feed and another in the am, we got away with it ok. have a nice day (says nthe prisoner in her house - i catually cried when dh left this am, was so glum at thought of being stuck in again. its not going so bad so far tho. think i feel worse because my best friend left country last night for year's sabbatical. i will miss her, and so will ds1)

littleducks · 29/07/2008 13:39

This am
wees in toilet: 3
wees in pants: nil

go outside to natter with neighbour about man installing sky
suddenly
poo in pants:1

cr*p, i was even considering going to sainsburys, may scrap that

i just want to sleeeeeep!

merryberry · 29/07/2008 13:49

not waving but drowing in a sea of pee:

pees in toilet: 1 hurray
pees on floor: 1
pees on way to toilet: 2
pees all around skirt of potty: 1

Tis progress, of NI peace process length, me thinks

turtle23 · 29/07/2008 19:45

Argh. Feel like a failure. Am still trying to give up the BF, was just doing nights but keep sneaking in a day one as he will drink a max of 4 oz from a bottle. Giving up smoking was much easier. Why cant it just be done?

CricketsMum · 29/07/2008 20:37

turtle am feeling about the same... started weaning dd at the weekend in a desperate attempt to start getting some sleep. she's been really good till tonight - turned her nose up at sweet potato so i tried banana... no joy... tried banana + baby rice which she hoovered up the other day... not interested. am now exhausted (haven't had more than 3 hours sleep in one go for at least 4 weeks & only 3 unbroken nights in 4 months) and tearful & dreading tonight & tomorrow. Have never given LO a bottle so can't see that i could try to get formula into her that way, and we are working on drinking from a cup but it took me an hour to get 5ml into her the other day... wits end... sorry to moan...

fitnfortyone · 29/07/2008 22:07

weaning was messy today...LO has started to slap at things and managed to knock my arm just as the spoon was approaching his mouth...

Luckily I was wearing the muslin, he got most over his bib, vest, arms, legs, nose, eyes etc etc

DH horrified at the thought of potty training. I agree.

only one further accident due to my distraction while cooking dinner, i made cauliflower cheese, the sauce is supposed to be stirred constantly, but i had to answer the door, invent and write out an avon order, deal with crying baby, set table and clean up wet knickers

maybe this is the basis of my mums cooking dramatically improving when we grew up and left home!

sil is training my niece i discovered today but is using pull ups to avoid mess, so looks like taking dd there to play without getting stressed over possible accidents is going to happen then

nik76 · 30/07/2008 06:50

LD - only one further accident due to my distraction while cooking dinner, i made cauliflower cheese, the sauce is supposed to be stirred constantly, but i had to answer the door, invent and write out an avon order, deal with crying baby, set table and clean up wet knickers

If you don't have any control how will your Lo hahaha

CricketsMum · 30/07/2008 08:18

Well once again LO pushed me right to the edge and then gave me a break! She slept 10-11.30 and then from midnight till now and still counting! Longest sleep EVER for her! Hurrah! Feel like a different person for getting 7.5 hours in one stretch! Please lord let her do it more regularly now!!

merryberry · 30/07/2008 08:22

lol at littleducks wet knickers too
less success over here. ds1 gets so lost in other things he forgets his more basic needs! and is startting to resist 'sit on it'\ (as it were) suggestions

maybelaterdarling · 30/07/2008 09:25

Those memories of wet pants around the place are coming back. Seems like such a long time ago that we potty trained, it seems weird that we'll be going through it again in a couple of years time.

I'm not feeling great at the moment, really painful blocked duct, a bad headache too, and the realisation that I haven't had more than 4 hours sleep in one go for approximately 19 weeks and 2 days is mentally damaging. At least the heatwave has passed around here, so it will be bearable to hold him against me to feed him again.

maybelaterdarling · 30/07/2008 09:27

PS I was MrsPhas3.

dd1 shouted at me the other day 'you always say 'maybe later darling' when I ask if we can do something together, but what you really mean is NO' .

e14mum · 30/07/2008 12:13

if you need to get baby passport photos done, don't think oh, i can do them myself in this photo booth and pay £4. It doesn't work. (you need at least 3 hands to hold up baby, get baby's attention towards the screen and then press the button!) Go to jessops and pay the whopping £9.99 and save yourself the trouble because you'll end up there anyway!
stupid passport...

merryberry · 30/07/2008 13:27

laugh hadthat with ds1 e14mum - i have a stream of 26 shots before i got it. used digital and did it laying on bed, he was only about 6 weeks at the time! and today, he has p'd 3 times in potty or loo (depends where in house we are) and p'd once during run to loo. hurray! he's due a poo now though, that'l be interesting. normally goes every other day...

nice name change maybelaterdarling! commiserations on the sleep front. did 1 extra feed in the night last night and feel woeful, you must feel rotten. x

fitnfortyone · 30/07/2008 13:58

I took our own photo of LO for his passport and uploaded it to paspix, only about 50p on top of the booth price but they guarantee it's biometric compatible.

All this potty training stuff, will i get away with not doing it if his gran is looking after him instead of me? If so, I may have to pay her a wage

Trying to work out how to pay for a 2nd car so DH can do some of the ferrying duties when I go back to work. Have found one, but now need to think of the horrors of insuring (and taxing), then getting a spare car seat. Oh, and need to find out if MIL plans to buy a car seat and high chair or if i'm expected to provide those ?

Weaning this morning with some wallpaper paste baby rice, managed to avoid the flapping arms, but didn't reckon on the flailing feet knocking the bowl over my non-muslined trousers and floor.

CricketsMum · 30/07/2008 19:31

LOL at the weaning story FN41! We had baby rice & pear in the garden - DD was wearing nothing other than a nappy & I was in oldest clothes i could find which were already cated in sweet potato. good news is that pear was a BIG hit! :-)

turtle23 · 30/07/2008 19:32

CricketsMum-I am guessing that it was a typo, but laughing at the cated rather than caked.... probably much more accurate!!!!
