bless, MB! Does Tbear(I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for the name) like his milk from a dingly dangly too?

Relaxing today by assembling some furniture while LO is at his gran's. Had a very screamy day yesterday with little sleep probably due to the heat/humidity. He still enjoyed his swimming though, i'd forgive him all that noise for the big grin as he got into the swim position (then laughed when he got loads of water in his open mouth)

Hope you catch up on sleep soon Hips, and enjoy the packing. Oh, is it your birthday today (in which case Happy birthday!) or is that some future date, get confused in me old age. Happy birthday for then anyway as I'll probably forget otherwise...

awww mb he sounds so cute

turtle - you are slightly mad, but well done for getting back to the gym. i havent been spinning for 2 weeks and i can tell

before i had dd2 i used to rock climb 4 or 5 times a week and used to love absailing. havent had time since though (climbings great for toning up if you do it enough)

Izzy is still full of snot though she actually managed to sleep last night. shes gone from the most placid baby in the world who never cries to one that howls most of the time. fingers crossed that she goes back to normal soon!

were going to a wedding this weekend in the lakes and are camping so im hoping she wont keep the whole campsite awake. having problems deciding what to wear though, dont want to go to dressy as everyone going is very outdoory so will be fairly casual. ive got balck skinny jeans and a grey top with sequins on but think the top might be to dressy!! i hate trying to decide what to wear for stuff when i dont know w hat everyone else is wearing!!! arghhhh

hello ladies!

i havent posted in ages as i catch up with the thread then get distracted

i am tired atm, ds was very grizzly in the heat and mil is staying with us to recover from cataract op

i have put on weight since birth so have been going to a post natal exercise class, even put dd in the creche last week so i could go, am two days in to the special k diet and thought i was doing really well as my weight went down on the scales only to discover when boasting to dh that was due to him recalibrating them as they were out!

what baby equipment is everyone using?
i have a bumbo and a baby doorway bouncer in the loft but arent sure if ds is ready yet 3 months yesterday.

monthlymayhem · 02/07/2008 23:04

LOL at the warm weather down there ! Up here. ds is more likely to get a cold from the wind and rain!

Took ds swimming yesterday for the first time. Unfortunately the pool was very busy, noisy and a little cold so he was a bit unsure, but eventually seemed to relax. He loves his tummy tub, so hoping that he'll enjoy a pool with warmer water when we go on holiday at beginning of August.

I'm going to a wedding on Friday and gran is baby sitting, so DH and I are very excited at the prospect of having a whole day and evening out with lots of champagne (well, one or two at least).

Littleducks - I bought a bumbo last week and ds (15 weeks) loves it, especially when he's watching the tv . We've also bought a door bouncer which hasn't arrived yet, but am looking forward to seeing him in it. Depending on the type and back support, I think they are fine as long as LO has a strong neck and can support head well.

Is anyone else finding their LO's sleep pattern has changed? Whereas ds was lasting a 5 or 6 hour spell at night, for the last week he's been up every two hours for a feed...was hoping it was just a growth spurt, but it's been going on for a bit too long now I think for that. I'm trying to give him extra feeds during the day, but when he's not hungry he's not interested!

HolidaysQueen · 02/07/2008 23:31

mm - for our holiday we bought DS a Konfidence Babywarma which is a little wetsuit for swimming (you can get them on eBay). It keeps him really warm - his body is nice and toasty when he comes out of the pool and he was able to last ages even in the sea! It might make your DS a bit comfier if it's cold. It also has the advantage of making him much easier to keep a grip on :-)

merryberry · 03/07/2008 08:35

gg likes his door bouncer, very basic old sort, but then he is a lot strongr than ds1 was at 15-16 weeks (oh dear, have lost track!). he is also trying to sit up (and failing majorly) but its a bit of a shocker as we have to have a wall rebuilt and swap big study room and small nursery over once he needs the cot bed rather than bedside crib. i am not going to be happy with disruption of building. and ds1 loathes gg crying, lord help us when they share a room.

gg has also been having mad feeding through night, not helped by getting distracted by boob in the day. i was getting wipoed out yesterday by it and he had 4 oz formula before bed to help me out last night - then slept 7pm-5am so i feel it was worth it. he has had two feeds since then and has now been napping an hour, which is unusual for him. deffo a growth spurt for him he is now getting curled toes in suits that fit 2 weeks ago. time to sort more clothes out.

have my mum staying a few days form the weekend, so hope to have the chance to do this. but it is ds1's 3rd birthday, so we might be distracted.

merryberry · 03/07/2008 08:36

distracted off of the boob i mean - he is feeding nicely, then something more intreesting happens and off he pops

HolidaysQueen · 03/07/2008 09:08

merry - my DS has suddenly started getting distracted by the pattern on my tops, and drops his latch to stare in amazement at stripes/spots/stars etc. so I am going to have to start wearing plain white ones when I feed him...

Nightfeeding is rotten DS woke at 2.45am last night after taking a 6oz bottle at 11.30pm and after sleeping through all holiday. I told DH that he couldn't possibly be hungry and that he should go and settle him (because if I did DS would just smell milk and demand it). DH managed to settle him, I fell asleep before he returned and DS went through until 6.30am. So I feel happy - DS can get back to sleep without food, DH can settle him without needing my boobs as backup and I can get back to sleep instantaneously if I don't have to get up

HolidaysQueen · 03/07/2008 09:09

Oh and DS had managed to spin himself round by 180 degrees between 3am and 6.30am last night... Heaven help us when he actually starts moving properly!

turtle23 · 03/07/2008 09:39

Danger! Danger! LO just rolled front to back to front to back quickly and nearly fell off the bed. Oops. We seem to be having a nightmare putting him down at night at the mo. Was always 730 and last few days is a struggle to get him asleep by 10. Argh.

spugs · 03/07/2008 12:27

izzy rolld over 3 weeks ago twice and then nothing since, she does the roll onto side and crane head back to see whats going on but cant quite get over.

ive got a bumbo and door bouncer but i dont think her head control is particularly brilliant, she occasionally goes in the bumbo for about 2 minutes and we havent tried the door bouncer yet.

how does everyone get them to bed for 7pm iz is normally about 9pm. were getting into bad habits as well as i keep cuddling her to sleep! will start a proper routine after we get back from this weekend as i know fine wel that even though its easier now im making a rod for my own back!

e14mum · 03/07/2008 12:41

don't know about 7pm bedtimes either- we're 8:30 here... can't seem to get it earlier unless I start earlier in the morning and I like my 7:30 too much...

mil tried to tell me I'd wreck her spine if I put her in the bumbo before 6 months! Yeah right... she doesn't love it yet though. Starting to come around to the door bouncer though

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 03/07/2008 14:27

I must have the sleepiest baby in history. He usually only sleeps for an hour or so in the day but last night he surapssed himself with his mummy pleasing sleep habits. DS has learned the benefits of a lie in. I fed him at 6am when he woke then we all went back to sleep and I woke first at 9am. No DD this morning.

We've been doing the door bouncer for a week or so. His head control is pretty good although prone to sudden upper body lurches. I'm running out of places to put him when I'm not carrying him. I'm not going to get a bumbo as he's wearing 9-12 month clothes pretty constantly so I'm not sure we'd have too much longevity with it.

Right better pack up the wellies. I take DD to an after school club at Spitalfields city farm on Thursdays and it's ace. It's like Glastonbury without the headlining bands and illegal drugs. Oh well, you can't have everything .

wearehipsandmakers · 03/07/2008 15:34

Got my bumbo yesterday- DD loves it for about 10 minutes and then gets tired. There is a certain 'evil genius plotting to take over the world in a subterraenean complex' quality to it I find as she sits there slowly moving her head from side to side and cackling.. How long are they supposed to last, btw? A friend of DS (nearly 3) sat in it yesterday and said it was very comfortable. DS can't wodge himself into it tho'.
Very cross with myself- after giving DD her bottle at 5.15, she went to sleep but I didn't. Finally gave up at about 6.15 and got up, no-one else surfaced till after 7!! It was quite nice sitting with a cup of coffee in peace and quiet tho' but I'd much rather have been in bed.

turtle23 · 03/07/2008 17:39

It finally happened...we just bought an estate car. Good bye the old me!

HolidaysQueen · 03/07/2008 18:58

I feel so behind the times - i haven't even thought about getting a bumbo or a door bouncer yet! having said that DS has been holding his head steadily for weeks and loves sitting up so maybe i should.

one question: is there a real difference between bumbo and bebe pod seats? a friend has a bebe pod but nobody here seems to have mentioned that one.

merryberry · 03/07/2008 19:11

bumbo feels squidgyish, pod doesn't, more tactile/warmer feel appeals to parents more. imo, i guess.

e14mum · 03/07/2008 22:06

here in e14 dd seems to like sitting up on the couch best of all... is this a precursor to when you buy them expensive toys and they end up playing with the pots and tupperware?

turtle23 · 03/07/2008 22:11

We have bumbo, door bouncer, 2 different gyms..DS likes to play with his own hands. A lot. He eats them, laughs at them, pokes himself...they're a riot.

HolidaysQueen · 03/07/2008 23:25

Okay, what do I do? DS weight gain slowing as mentioned previously, now DH tells me that the last few nights his nappy at 11pm (which has been on since 7pm) is barely wet, and I have noticed DS being sick more than usual but also feeding more than usual as well. He is also draining 6oz at 11pm when he usually only took 4-5oz max. DS is fine in himself - very smiley and happy and content as usual - so I don't think he's ill. I am really worried that there is something going seriously wrong with my milk supply... What do I do? Start giving top up formula, go to doctor, wait to see health visitor or calm down and stop worrying for now and see what happens?

monthlymayhem · 03/07/2008 23:41

HQ - sounds similar, and I'd bet on a growth spurt combined with teething? At least that's what I've been putting the sickness down to as my LO is definitely bringing up more mouthfuls recently and his gums seems to be really annoying him. Apparently teething can cause stomach upsets. If he's happy and alert I wouldn't worry and just monitor his wet nappies.

monthlymayhem · 03/07/2008 23:42

HQ , meant to say - Bf counsellor also recently told me that weight gain starts to slow down around this age.

e14mum · 04/07/2008 09:42

HQ- maybe go along to a bf clinic or ring the breastfeeding network for some advice? Probably better than seeing gp or hv. Sounds like you need some brestfeeding support more than anything.

MrsPhas3 · 04/07/2008 12:10

As long as he isn't losing weight I wouldn't worry about slow weight gain. They all develop at different weights. They must burn up alot of calories with all that kicking/smiling/giggling/gurgling (and of course the off scream) that they do, so unlike in the first month or so when all energy is going into growing, they are using energy in different ways now. (That is not supported by scientific evidence but it makes sense to me).

Try to relax, and from what I have read on here, don't take your HV word on bf related issues unless you know that she knows her stuff. A bf counsellor might be more helpful.

skidoodle · 04/07/2008 22:55

HQ - my DD has suddenly started taking WAY more milk when DH feeds her around 10.30. I'm not sure why, but I'm putting it down to her being hungrier and not worrying much beyond that. She's also going through a bit of a pukey stage right now.

Hi there everyone else Seems I'm not the only one with a cranky baby this last week or so. We've been on holidays - we went to Berlin for a long weekend to visit friends and then to see my parents. DD travelled pretty well but has started getting very crabby in the afternoon. It seems to be tiredness but she won't settle for a sleep then. Maybe she would if I put her down in her cot, but if she was having 3 sleeps a day in her cot I would never be able to leave the house.

I go back to work on Monday. Kind of looking forward to it, kind of dreading leaving her.

I had my hair cut today and had it curled when it was being dried. It feels great to have that done. It looked awful. I don't know whether I got any pregnancy hair, but it was all thick and heavy and the guy really thinned it out thank goodness.
