MMH, sorry to hear your news Hope you got thru the w/e ok x

(tis mumofmonsters)

PurlyQueen · 29/06/2008 21:28

my life is centred around a v grumpy but overtired baby who refuses to fall asleep. He is dribbling for England and chewing whatever he can get in his mouth . I'm also watching two ebay auctions: one for a Bumbo and another for a Baby Bjorn

BlueDragonfly · 29/06/2008 21:32

Nope you haven't stolen DS3!

He helped himself to some of my (cold) left over soup the other day dunked his hand in and sucked it clean off! (i was being neglectful and not paying proper attention, am sooooo glad the soup was cold ) does he not know he has to wait another 2 months?!!

merryberry · 30/06/2008 08:14

i had some strawberry flan last weekend that gg headbutted, trying to get it off my spoon.

had a ghastly tiring w/e of extra day and night feeds plus crying all mornings and looking pale, due to imms reaction i guess. i was very tired, went to bed with no dinner at 1830 with baby last night, he had just one 3am feed and we slept in til 0600. thank god, feel i human again. and he seems pink and chirpy this am.

HolidaysQueen · 30/06/2008 08:40

DS learnt to roll over when he wanted to get a closer look at the Magnum I was eating on holiday. I was explaining to him that it was essentially just milk in a different format and he clearly had to hit a developmental milestone to mark the momentous realisation that chocolate coated ice cream is more amazing than milk and something for him to aspire to...

Ugh MB, poor you! We have jabs tomorrow and I am now remembering the random shrieking, marathon 4 hour feeding and weird sleeping patterns that I'd somehow forgotten from 4 weeks ago.

Off to HV for 3 month weigh-in today. From now on I'm only going to go monthly, but plan to get his height checked today as well so that I'll feel better about my tall slim baby when they say his weight gain ain't so great Having said that, he has finally developed delicious chubby thighs...

spugs · 30/06/2008 08:44

theres a march 09 thread! im now feeling all nostsalgic and wishing it was me

Iz has a cold, lots of snot and a couple of disturbed nights. poor thing cant seem to figure out how to breath out her mouth!

BlueDragonfly · 30/06/2008 11:46

P is the same spugs he is soo grumpy and cry-y too

MrsPhas3 · 30/06/2008 12:06

We're the same. Just had a 30 minute scream-a-thon, but he is now asleep. It feels like he has hardly slept during the day since Friday, apart from short 20 minute cat naps. He is very dribbly, grumpy, a bit snotty - could this be growth spurt or teeth? I should know, but when do first teeth turn up? He barely slept for more than 90 minutes at a time last night, Mr P was a great help, but we'll both be like zombies tonight.

After my worries last week, and feeling pretty down, I feel I've turned a corner. Although completely and utterly exhausted and at my wits end with my little man, my worries about possibly pnd seem to have gone. Phew!

We were due to have last weekend without dd1 and 2, unfortunately cancelled as my dad was ill. But fingers crossed they are going away this Friday. (Do you think it was wrong of me to cry when mum called to cancel? ).

I've not had ds weighed for ages. The timing of our baby clinic clearly doesn't take into account those with older kids at school. We'll have a family trip out during school holidays instead - the Ps know how to live!!

MrsPhas3 · 30/06/2008 14:47

30 minute scream-a-thon provided 20 minutes sleep. He must be exhausted. Found 5 oz of EBM in freezer, he wolfed that down in a few minutes, and seems a bit more settled. So maybe it is a growth spurt, in which case it will presumably take longer to sort out since I gave him EBM rather than build up my supply. Ho-hum. Bloody growth spurts. Hope it doesn't continue for another night. I'm currently avoiding eye contact with next door neighbour - ashamed of the scream-a-thon (although I know we have to do it from time to time). I can remember feeling like this with dd1, and was paranoid that everytime the phone rang it would be social services saying that my parenting skills where not up to scratch. Or even worse HV paying a 'surprise' visit in midst of said scream-a-thon and canvassing neighbours opinions of my parenting skills.

MrsPhas3 · 30/06/2008 14:48

Oops, I'm really not paranoid

fitnfortyone · 30/06/2008 15:31

Went to baby clinic today for weigh in (mainly just to get out of the house!). LO still following the 50th centile exactly, he's so predictable
MEntioned to HV that he was waking up more at night, she said it could be either a growth spurt or teething, and that it probably will be sooner rather than later that we'll need to start weaning. Suggested we try stage 2 formula at night to see if that helps for a while. Is it just me or does anyone else thing the stage 2 formula was designed for helping mums and dads rather than baby?

Apart from a lot of baby grizzling, screaming and general unsettled-ness, had a nice weekend. Topped it off by abseiling 100ft off the millennium centre roof which was fun

Glad the holiday went so well HQ! LO isn't interested much in trying to roll over, he can get onto his side by using his head/neck to haul himself around, and seems to be using his neck muscles to "crawl" on his back along his playmat as i keep finding him about a foot away from where i leave him in the activity gym. Maybe I should tempt him with a magnum?

HolidaysQueen · 30/06/2008 17:41

FN41 - you are insane! I haven't abseiled since I was made to do it in the girl guides aged 13 and don't imagine I'll ever be doing it again...

Weigh in today was rubbish. Despite DS having acquired chubby thighs and chubby face on holiday he has actually only put 240g/8oz on in 2.5 weeks. He has now slipped to 25th centile having started at birth at about 91st. I know bf babies grow in spurts rather than steadily, but even when he has a spurt it is only just enough to keep him on track for the centile he is at at that point, so a normal week for him makes him drop further HV is starting to question his slow gain, albeit very gently. On the plus side, he has now moved above 75th centile now on height so he is even taller and slimmer (and hence more daddy-like) than before.

Trying to be philosophical about it - he is so happy and I think doing well on dev milestones that maybe I should just ignore weight - but it is hard when I am responsible for his weight gain and hence it feels like it is totally my fault. In many ways I can't wait for when he starts solids so that I can depersonalise any weight gain issues he has, but I don't want to wish the next few months away.

DS has responded by eating terribly today but smiling and giggling loads

turtle23 · 30/06/2008 19:27

HQ- Stop worrying. From the pix he looks perfectly happy and absolutely gorgeous!
I am feeling very proud of myself as went back to gym today and spent an HOUR there. Not like me at all, but I have to shed 10 kg before I can, um, start all this again.

e14mum · 30/06/2008 19:31

HQ- there is a slow-weight-gain support thread under the breast and bottle feeding category... I'm sure you can find lots of reassurance and advice there. You're doing really well!

e14mum · 30/06/2008 19:32

turtle- are you CRAZY!?!?

turtle23 · 30/06/2008 19:49

I can't help it. I am going to wait until the end of August, but then... will probably take an age again anyway.

monthlymayhem · 30/06/2008 20:12

Hello

Sorry to hear there are lots of grizzly babies around, my LO is much the same (although always has been!). Definitely think he's teething and have started to give him Ashton & Parsons powders as I heard they could help - only gave 1st one today but will let you know if they help.

He is very slightly better at going down for naps over the last couple of days, only a 45 min screamathon this afternoon..

He is also back to waking up every two hours during the night and I'm thinking it's a growth spurt. I am trying to plonk my boob in front of him at every opportunity during the day, but he will only eat when he wants to and doesn't seem to be taking much more. Although I've been so pig headed about excl bf'ing, I have bought a couple of ready made formula cartons and am planning on trying him with a ff before bedtime tomorrow if he's still the same tonight. Hoping that will fill him up a bit more.

Holidays queen - the breastfeeding clinic I recently went to advised that weight gain will start to slow down as they get towards 4 months, so 8oz in two weeks sounds ok to me? Apparently the average goes to approx 3-4 oz per week then.

MMH - hope you are getting lots of support and good luck with the counselling if you decide to go down that road. x

mm, i've been using the ashton & parsons for a few weeks, LO now greets the appearance of the paper with the same glee as his bottle, but gets highly annoyed when i get most of it over his face due to him either turning his head at the last minute or shoving his hands in his mouth mid dose

I have had to top up with calpol a couple of times but the poweders generally just seen to chill him out.

merryberry · 01/07/2008 07:45

those papers make me larf, they look so much like we're about to shovel a class A drug into baby. but they do seem to help a bit. i wonder if just because they are distracting...?

turtle23 · 01/07/2008 09:57

How, please, do you stop them eating their hands 24/7? It's driving me crazy listening to slurp, slurp, slurp, gag, wretch, slurp...

fitnfortyone · 01/07/2008 11:09

Turtle, just console yourself that the slurping noise is a damn sight better than the screaming one....

Hello all,

DS and I have just been to Greenwich. So lovely by the river in this glorious weather. We live pretty near the river (up by Tower Bridge) anyway but I fancied a change of scene.

Anyone know if I should stress about DS not sleeping on his back? Now he can roll he has decided that the comfiest position in which to sleep is one where he presses his face right up to the bars, either on his side or on his tummy. I roll him onto his back but he's like a weeble. I guess it's pretty easy to turn over when you are shaped like a rugby ball.

I keep dreaming about BLW. Only 7 weeks to go. That's if the HV doesn't think he should be weaned before 6 months. I wish someone would invent a diagnostic tool to discover exactly when each baby's digestive system ceases to be permeable and I can feed my hollow legged boy.

Anyone else been put in thier place by a small child recently? I was dandling DS at the table the other day and he was jumping about. I said to DD and DP, "Look, he's doing a one legged jump!" Cue "Don't you mean a hop, Mummy?" accompanied by a very withering look. Ok, I asked for that but really......Made us laugh though.

wearehipsandmakers · 02/07/2008 08:52

Dear God I'm knackered. DD up at 4 then DS up at 5, finally stopped pretending there weren't sqwawks of outrage coming from 2 bedrooms at 5.45, DS and DH at nursery for 8 DD down asleep at 8.15.
I'm having my midlife crisis at the moment. 30 I could cope with but I had a lot of exciting stuff going on. At 35 I feel like I have very little new stuff to experience (soooo jaded and wordly-wise. )Also for my birthday DH is taking DD and DS to his mother's so I can really 'crack on' with the packing- sorting out the garage and boxing up 1500 books. Before collapsing at 8 o'clock with a Desperate Housewives DVD and a pint glass of wine.

I'm really looking forward to it .

merryberry · 02/07/2008 13:56

and getting me through another shattering and major feeding frenzy this time round is ds1's cute alert, and gg's astonishing progress in picking htings up. CUTE ALERT:

?butterflies make honey mummy?

?this plant has dingle dangle aprons? (fuschia at top of road)

?Mummy Tbear milk, Tbear milk?

Turn around to find him (shirt off after lunch) with Tbear?s (knitted penguin) beak inserted into belly button, then moved to mid-rib, then held up and ?Burp! Scuse you!?
