oh, the dilemma.....River Cottage, or The Apprentice??????

thanks for DD's birthday wishes. Can't believe she is 1!

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 04/06/2008 21:04

Thanks for the support.

Happy birthday to DD tomorrow. I'm going to watch the apprentice

foxythesnowfox · 04/06/2008 21:26

Happy Birthday Daisy's DD for tomorrow

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 21:29

Opted for the Apprentice. I can't believe that the essex wide boy lied on his CV

He must've known that he'd be found out.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 21:29

thanks foxy

foxythesnowfox · 04/06/2008 21:31

I missed the first 20 mins, so will catch up on Iplayer later.

There's a thread about someone's son (7) who was given milk at school to try.

Breastmilk.

Ewwwwwww! [barf emoticon]

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/06/2008 21:49

Maybe I'm weird Foxy, but what's the big problem about a 7 yo trying BM? If it was direct from the source, so to speak, then yes ewwww! but if the school had a glass of EBM donated from a volunteer for the class to try then why si that so ewwww? Unusual maybe, but maybe they were discussing mammals and wanted to reinforce the fact that humans produce milk in the same way as cows, sheep, goats etc? Maybe they were talking about taste buds and how they are influenced and wanted to demonstrate how the first thing a baby tastes is quite sweet? I can see reasonably valid reasons for this. Or are you just ewwwww! because you think BM tastes grim to non-babies?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/06/2008 21:50

(Sorry, not wanting to start an argument or anything, just curious)

foxythesnowfox · 04/06/2008 21:54

A strangers bodily fluids being ingested by my child just doesn't sit right with me.

And I know cows milk for calves arguement, but it still doesn't seem right to me.

I also think its an intimate thing, being able to feed your offspring.

foxythesnowfox · 04/06/2008 21:55

I was distracting when writing that post BTW!

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 21:56

Jammy, the thing on the thread seems to be that it was done by the old classroom assistant when she was alone with the children and there wasn't any parental consent gained.

I don't have an issue with children, or anyone else trying BM, but I'm not sure I'd be too happy about DS being given it to try at school without me knowing about it first and knowing that any health risks had been considered fully first.

foxythesnowfox · 04/06/2008 21:56

And my older children have each had a taste when I've being feeding (of expressed). Its not the age, its that its someone elses.

And unpasturised

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/06/2008 22:04

I guess there should have been parental consent, yes. Sorry too tired to think about these things properly. Just spent 2 hours writing proposal for some work we're doing ready to be discussed at a meeting with the client.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 22:05

lol foxy, I offered a taste to DS when DD was about a week old, as he was obviously fascinated. The look of abject horror on his face when he thought I meant for him to have a suck

He refused point blank to try it, even from a spoon or a bottle, so I can't imagine how a classful of like-aged kids was convinced.

ikwym about the intimacy thing though; I would hate to think DSs teacher was spoonfeeding the class her breast milk, but EBM from the milk bank I wouldn't have an issue with. Can't say why exactly, but there you go.

I bet it'll be in the papers tomorrow.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/06/2008 22:08

It took me ages to persuade DH to try a drop - just where I had a drip on the end of my finger.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 22:16

I had too late a night last night, and lovely though my new pooter is, I must to bed.

Night

foxythesnowfox · 04/06/2008 22:18

N'nite. I'm off too

LittleMissNorty · 05/06/2008 08:11

Happy birthday BabyBoo, hope a fabby day is had by all xxx

Just been reading that bmilk in school thread...not sure how I feel about it tbh. I wouldn't want my children having someone else's bmilk because of the disease factor, but tasting bmilk from a milk bank that has been pasturised and screened I would have no problem at all with. Like some of the posters say, I think I would have more problem with them being given formula!

I quite often give my dd a bottle of ebm, but then she is only 3. She knows it is mummy milk and comes from me and she loves it. I only wish I could express more, so that I could give it to her more often.

We have been up since 5 here, so I am getting more and more ratty and cranky with the dcs as the morning wears on! I think it shall be toddlers this morning, then home for naps all round this afternoon!

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 05/06/2008 09:02

Holly, I'm with you, I'd worry about the disease thing, but I wouldn't get too worked up about it. For the record though, I have tried nothing more than a dab on the finger tip of my own bm, not because I am squeamish about it, but because I am just funny about milk stuff in general and the thought of drinking it myself makes me feel sick!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 05/06/2008 09:09

Snap bumper! I hate milk, the thought of a glass of it makes me want to vom! I can just about drink a glass of it with chocolate milkshake powder in, which I try and do every day, but still even that makes me feel a little bit bleugh!

Oh dear god, the dcs are starting to get cranky now. We are going to have fun at toddlers! I think I may take a pushchair, so ds can have a sleep whilst we are there. I usually take him in the Didymos, but I don't fancy walking around for 2 hours with that great lump stuck to my back!

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 05/06/2008 09:15

I do like milk but it has to be the skimmed red stuff and has to be ice cold. Atm we are buying 3 lots of milk for 3 of us, but sainsbo's are now selling 1% orange topped milk, so I got that thinking it might be a good compromise for me and DH but even that is too creamy

Hope your day goes ok with the cranky DCs.

I've got this mini iq thing in an hour. Feel a bit bad for the woman coming to run it that there will only be about 4 of us

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 05/06/2008 09:30

White trousers? Yay or nay? I've just dug my old ones out and they fit me (Hurrah), but not sure if they are the thing to wear!
