buzzybee · 04/06/2008 12:24

oops sorry Skidaddle and Clairey - scanning through too quickly!
I'm not sure Welliemum has ever posted on this particular issue but worth a look! She was brave enough to start a thread on research linking breast-feeding to higher IQs last year!

A watching brief would suit me fine Lizzer. Thanks for the advice on taking someone with me though. I'm assuming that the first appointment will be a discussion on options (hoping). I think everyone thought it would self-resolve because it wasn't hugely dilated but there's time yet. And as you say much better this than to have the kidneys damaged by bladder reflux and not realise it was happening until it was too late.

buzzybee · 04/06/2008 12:26

Have posted new pic too!

Right must off to bed now.

BouncingTurtle · 04/06/2008 12:41

What bonny girls you have Buzzy! And doesn't your dd1 look the spit of you
I hope everything goes okay with your dd2, such a worry for you

fifisworld · 04/06/2008 12:50

Skid - Sorry
Thought it was clairey, thats what i get for reading too quickly

claireybee · 04/06/2008 15:05

Yep is Skid with the smoke dilemma, not me.

I rearranged my living room yesterday, not sure if I like it...main reason was so that the dining table was more accessible and we can get to all the chairs without having to pull the table out(especially now that ds is about to need the highchair so dd needs a normal chair). It has worked in that respect but mean we have even less floor space than before. DH came home last night and went then pointedly ignored it!

DS crying loads again today, barely slept last night. Not feeding very well either, coming on and off and crying as he feeds. Maybe teeth I dunno...

BT what was that teething stuff you mentionned a while back? The one that sounds like piles medicine or something!

claireybee · 04/06/2008 15:16

Clara I'm actually quite interested in how ds takes to blw (I agree is a stupid nmae!) too. We were forced into it with dd as she wouldn't let a spoon near her and spat out all puree that we did manage to get in. She barely ate anything even blw style so will be interesting if ds really goes for it! He is already trying to grab her dinner and gummed a piece of pasta ( gluten!)to death yesterday before I even noticed he had it!

Now dd only gagged a handful of times feeding herself(but when she did it was quite major-loads of mucus came up etc) but if I got a spoonful in her mouth she would always splutter and gag on it (not sure how much of that was for effect as in how dare you spoon something into my mouth ) so for her controlling the food herself definitely worked, we'll see with ds. I'm not adverse to helping him with yoghurt or porridge etc either if he is willing.

fifisworld · 04/06/2008 15:21

Clairey - Dont now if its any help but ive got Anbesol for Ethan, but the liquid rather than the gel, the gell is too slimy and doesnt stay on there gums it just goes in the mouth and everywhere.
It seems to be helping him a bit, also been giving him a bit of calpol as well just after his tea to settle them a bit so he can sleep.

claireybee · 04/06/2008 15:33

I just changed ds' nappy and there was a whole undigested bean (like you get in the inside of green beans) in there! Seems like he got to more than just the pasta without me noticing yesterday...

claireybee · 04/06/2008 15:34

That's the one Fifi, thanks!

BouncingTurtle · 04/06/2008 16:46

Clairey - Anbesol! Yes it does sound like a certain pile medicine(anusol) lol. Don't get them mixed up now
You can get it over the counter at the pharmacist.

BouncingTurtle · 04/06/2008 16:49

Whoops - didn't see fifi's post!

Suey2 - yes I am worried about how I'm going to organise myself when I go back to work, it's bad enough getting out of the house now!
But I suppose you just do what you have to do.
I guess it means I'm have less time time to MN in the mornings!!
It does help that he'll get his breakfast at nursery.

claraquitetirednow · 04/06/2008 19:44

Oh clairey you do make me laugh with your tales of your dd and ds! The poo, the green bean, it's like reading a really funny blog. In fact, have you thought of writing a blog? It could be a great source of support for other mums struggling through the first year of looking after two under two (although I realise technically your dd isn't under two any more).

I was speaking to a woman in the playground today and actually found myself saying that I have actually found it easier having two than I had feared. Now I know I have been reasonably lucky with dd1 being a brilliant sleeper and dd2, although having her ups and downs, being reasonably good. But I think I must have got to the point at last where I feel like I am really coping with two! Could just be because we have had a good day today and the sun is out. And the next time we have a bad night I will no doubt wonder what posessed me to think I was coping! But at the moment I do think things are going reasonably well.

Good thing too as our lives will be turned completely upside down in just over six weeks time (there's no worried emoticon is there?)

Can't believe ive done this but....from next week im looking after my bf's 14 month dd all day on a monday, and half day friday and sat.....she can't afford the nursery fee's anymore. I was going to offer last week but thought it would be too much for me, now ive just agreed to it...
now i've got my 9 just 0 2 year old ds1, bf's dd, and Ethan...

cazzybabs · 04/06/2008 22:00

fifi - you are mad woman mad I tell you....but what a nice friend you are...could you move to Cambridge and have dd3 as well?

clareq - I have missed something..what is happening in 6 weeks?

fifisworld · 04/06/2008 22:03

dont know what happened there..it was meant to be my ( just) 2 year old

BouncingTurtle · 05/06/2008 06:31

Morning! And what a gorgeous one it is!

I've solved the leaky nappy problem, hurrah, so no more night time nappy changes.
Unfortunately ds is now waking up again loads - 5 times last night and the night before between 7pm and 6am. At least I know it isn't his nappy
It has been very hot in our room - 25deg!!! Have him just in the top half of his pjs and a nappy, in the cot with a sheet and light blanket (which he chucked off himself!). He actually spent most of last night in our bed, with just the blanket over him, as he wa thrashing around so much in his cot.
I think I might say to Dh that we need to get and air cooler unit for our room - we had one last time we went down to my mums and he slept so well, only woke up twice - I think he liked the noise as well
DH is off today and tomorrow so he'll be getting lots of time with ds (well when he gets out of bed!)

BouncingTurtle · 05/06/2008 06:32

Oh Fifi - But what a kind friend you are

claraquitetirednow · 05/06/2008 07:55

cazzybabes - we are moving to Pakistan. It'll certainly be different! We'll be there for between 2 and 4 years, so lots of preparing to do. Luckily I have been in touch with a few people out there so have a fair idea of what to expect, plus my dh is off there on a short trip in a couple of weeks time to check out the house, nursery etc.

cazzybabs · 05/06/2008 10:26

Oh yes - I did know that. How excitin!? Will you have to wear a hijab? You are not Muslim are you? My friends just got back from visiting relatives over there - her photos look amazing.

I have decided to learnt o knit...I have ordered a debbie bliss book and am off to buy some knitting needles and yarn. Am inspired by my clothkits dress and cross stitch. I mean how hard can knitting be - I am sure I'll have a cardigan in no time .

claraquitetirednow · 05/06/2008 13:30

Cazzy - no we're not muslim, it'll be really interesting to live in a muslim country although i think i will find some of the more extreme aspects of the religion quite difficult. However it almost certainly won't affect us too much in Islamabad - I think as long as you are dressed conseratively, eg no short skirts, tight fitting tops etc, you will be fine. And in the houses, diplomatic enclave it's even more relaxed.

After my messages yesterday about coping with two it's all going wrong today....

Took Lily to first session waterbabies today - was good fun she loved it splashing kicking and even seemed to like being submerged Am pleased as DD1 is avid swimmer...
Not a cheap activity though - plus the special nappy you HAVE to buy and the baby wetsuit ...PLUS the parking and coffee afterwards (a VITAL neccesity )works out a lot
But she enjoyed it and I did

macdoodle · 05/06/2008 14:20

And they do those cool underwater photos at end of course - though god knows how much they will cost

loucee · 05/06/2008 15:01

Hi everyone

Don't know what my excuse is now that I am back online, just never seem to have any time to sit down and reply to the threads.

Got a quick question, does anyone NOT give a milk feed immediately before bed? I am thinking of giving DS his bottle of expressed milk downstairs and then take him up for his bath then read him a story and then put him to bed. This is DD's routine but I can't remember when we started it. Is the idea of milk immediately before bed get them to sleep longer? I realise in the early days/weeks it was because they would be screaming for their food but now DS rarely falls asleep during his last feed and it would be great not to cart it all up to the bedroom.

Really muggy day here, makes me feel so lethargic but need to get on with lots of chores as I don't seem to be in the house an awful lot whilst this weather is so nice.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day

fifisworld · 05/06/2008 17:32

loucee - We dont always give milk before bed, Ethan usually will have his last bottle about 6, then his tea, pureed stuff about 7, then either straight to bed or bath then bed. Sometimes we do it the other way round and give him his tea first, then a little milk then bath then bed, tbh it doesnt make any difference to his sleeping patten at all.

Had a lovely day today at the park with bf and her dd, had a picnic and took the football/bubbles etc..and ive burnt all my arms

skidaddle · 06/06/2008 12:28

morning all, oh no it's actually afternoon and I have got no work done as usual..

fifi - that is so nice of you to look after your friend's child as well - maybe when your dp sees how expert you are at it he will agree to another one?

loucee - I always always feed Milo to sleep - i.e. he always falls asleep whenever I feed him (day and night!) but I think in theory it is a great idea not to give them milk just before bed so they will learn to fall asleep without it. Plus the sooner your DS falls into the same routine as your DD the better I would have thought. Are you reading him stories already? I think we did with DD at this age but it hasn't occurred to me to start with DS yet, my poor neglected second born..

well DS's 2nd day at nursery wasn't such a success - he refused to have any milk at all so didn;t feed from 7.30am and 2pm!! I went out with some 'mum friends' last night and they all assured me this was normal in a BF baby but it meant I literally fed him from 2pm-5pm with no break plus it can't be good for him to go that long with no nourishment surely? Next week he starts on solids anyway so hopefully he will have something from them even if he has no milk

Oh God sometimes I feel like motherhood is just a big long guilt trip
