GCG - your MIL sounds fun... my mum is a bit like this but not so bad (sorry) especially now I'm on number 2! Think calming thoughts. My SIL has a total of 0 children too and yet has felt compelled to advise me what I should be doing during 2 pgs and with the subsequent children - grrr.

Flick - DD ended up with Weetabix in her hair last week. I suspect DS too...

Bobsmum - I'm about to move into cloth from disposables as I hate the way the disposables leak! I love Totsbots and have loads ready. DS has got some really funky Bamboozles and wraps.

Took both kids out today to the park. Had DS in buggy and DD in sling - double buggy still not up and running - STILL waiting for newborn insert . DS had loads of fun on the swings etc and DD slept through it all!

goodcatholicgirl · 08/05/2008 20:02

bobsmum I hope Martha settles at night a bit more for you soon. My SPD is actually worse since I had Cerys, my physio brain is telling me this is because my rectus abdominus muscle split again in pregnancy (that's the six pack muscle), as it did with DD1. That muscle attaches to the pubic symphasis so I'm guessing if that's not functioning properly cos it's split, my pubic symphasis is less stable (hope that's not too technical for you!). I have a physio appt tomorrow with our obs/gynae specialist so I will ask her and let you know what she says tomorrow. I can remember with DD1 that my SPD took about 6 weeks to settle back down. Our bodies don't get back to normal straight away!!

Had a nice day, we took 'the girls' into town, I had some bits to do. DH steered me in the direction of the jewellers to buy an eternity ring but unfortunately Cerys had other plans as she was screeching in her pram, so we decided to leave it for now.
Had my first BF in public this time around. You really can't see anything if you do it properly!!! We stopped at Tesco cafe to feed her, then 10 mins later she was still rooting so we then went to costa coffee so I could give her a 'top up'!! I laughed with DH that we could potentially just spend the afternoon in different coffee houses while I fed Cerys!!!

It's gonna be a gorgeous weekend!!!!

bobsmum- it took me 1 week to stop being puffy, but I only got all swollen 2 weeks before Jas landed. I LOVE frugi- but can't afford much so its a big treat when I go on their website!

GCG and pina- no I did NOT get a good nights sleep- we seem to be having an early growth spurt in this house! Since Tues eve 4 hour long meal, Jasmine has been feeding every 2 hours (i.e. from start of one feed to start of next) but also feeding for 1-1.5 hrs at a time, leaving me 30 mins-1 hr sleep/me time. Last night I gave up trying to put her in moses basket, just unwrapped her and co-slept so I'm feeling closer to human today.

DD1 is loving having a baby sister, mad keen to help, getting nappies ready, clothes out, asking where she is and what she's doing if they've been apart. Thankfully DD1 isn't bothered by the crying- sleeps through it at night and ignores it during the day 'babies cry lots, don't they mummy?', so we're off to a good start but think it'll have to wear off soon.

I've managed to use all three of my slings out already! I've found my ring sling best for feeding, moby wrap good for walking/doing stuff, and mei tai great to put her in when we're out in the car (wrap takes a bit of wrapping, so MT is quicker).
I didn't actually notice when I first fed her in public, but yesterday when we went to register her she fed really tidily- no screaming and rooting for ages like she has done before.
We're using bambino mios and one size 1 fluffle- I've seen I can make a size 2 fluffle fit her, but her clothes won't fit over it so we still have disposables on the go as well.I'm not managing to keep up with the washing terribly well, and I don't know why. Last time we managed fine, but I'm not going to worry!
Right, we're all out for fresh air and exercise in a mo before I lose my get up and go, hugs all, sorry for everything I'll have missed on here!

mumofk · 09/05/2008 12:10

bobsmum- about SPD, mine is still there, definately worse for exercise (just back from playing in the park) so I guess its my body's way of saying slow down. It does feel different though, it took me a while to realise what it is, just a different style ache/pain in the same place. I hope you get some relief soon.

pina how awful- I hope they get you fixed up soon. At least they're ready to treat you, and though I hope DD2 will be able to be with you, its better you get all fixed up and firing on all cylinders than trying to struggle on.
Your DP will manage fine- he'll learn quick and sleep less when your DCs are relying on him, not you. All those bugs could potentially be quite serious, so just hope you get well soon.
Big hugs,
mumofk

bobsmum · 09/05/2008 20:24

Pina - you should be able to take dd2 with you - I've got a friend who's just spent a couple of weeks in hospital after develpoing DVT and a blood clot on her lung. At first she was in the cardiology ward and was still allowed to have her 2 wk old ds with her. Then she was put on the maternity ward. No problems at all and lots of midwives to fuss over and cuddle her ds. Hope it works out similarly for you

Pelvis feels a bit better today. GCG - thanks for the info

Ankles and feet are right down - I wore shoes today!!!

Discharged by the midwife today, so Health Visitor comes on Monday.

Fed dd2 in Pizza Hut today

pina samuel is a real crier at the moment and must be held at all times - except nasty mummy here makes him cry it out a bit!

also for anyone who is a first timer / forgotten - they have a growth spurt at 3 and 6 weeks or so, so any mammoth feeding sessions could be down to that

pina also great that you don't have to be admitted

and good that the ankles have gone down as well bobsmum (is that right?)

I have a moment so thought I'd pop in. Congrats on the babies so far!

We have been home from the hospital now for just under 2 weeks and seem to be coping ok with some help. The girls are on a strict 4 hrly feeding schedule or things would be completely chaotic.

Washing is dreadful but I'm sure it is less due to the wonderful super mini coth naps I made before they were born.

The girls are all about 6 pounds now and terribly cute. All quite different looking. There are photos on my profile but that is from when they were a bit smaller.

Well better get going, stuff down some tea before the next feed fast approaches.

Take care all and lots of good night sleep vibes coming your way!

goodcatholicgirl · 10/05/2008 11:01

chuffed Pics are well cute! I didn't realise you already had two DC's....blimey, you are wonder woman!! I hope you are doing well with so many little ones to look after.

mumofk Blimey, sounds like Jas really likes her food. I can highly recommend feeding lying on your side in bed (esp if you are co-sleeping). We are not co-sleeping but this am at 5am DD2 woke for her feed, DH changed her nappy & winded her afterwards so I just fed her lying on my side, and I was so dozy myself while she fed, I actually had to ask DH when we woke at 7:30am if I had actually fed her at 5am, cos it felt like I hadn't, I was so sleepy! It might help you feel more human, you poor love.
Also, young lady , it sounds like you do need to slow down a bit, playing in the park??!! Take it easy, esp if you still have pelvis pains (see below).
My DD1 is also still smitten with DD2.I'm hoping it lasts!! She is just so cute with her.

blobsmummy congrats and welcome Wiliam!! Let us know more details when you can!!

pina you poor love! How are you today? I will try and answer some of your questions. CRP is C-reactive protein, it's just a very standard thing they look at in blood tests. Your white cell count is probably high, as your white blood cells fight infection, so when you have an infection, they multiply to fight the infection (this is a good thing, it's your body's way of dealing with infection).
I'm guessing a uterine infection is an infection of the uterus? Poor you, make sure you look after yourself too, and don't try and do too much. Take it easy and let yourself get better. No wonder you have been feeling so rough.
Sounds like you don't have to go to hospital now but a friend of mine was admitted with pneumonia (onto a general medical ward) when her DD2 was 10 weeks old, she was still BF her so she was allowed to have her in hospital with her.

Sorry guys, this is gonna be a long post!

I went to see the physio yesterday for my split tummy muscle (anyone else had this? I had it with DD1 too). Muscle not doing too bad, less than a fingers gap separation . I asked her to check my pubic symphasis which is still bothering me (listen up here mumofk!!!) and she felt it then got me to just gently wiggle my hips on the bed, and said "ooo yes, it's still quite unstable and grinding quite a lot" !! She also said I felt quite swollen and inflamed down there (where the joint is, not ladybits). She then got me on all fours to check another exercise and commented on how I had quite a lot of swelling around my sacrum (very lower back) too. It's been really hurting me, I've been barely able to sit and feed. No wonder it's sore! She said that when babies are born very quickly (as Cerys was!) the pelvis sometimes doesn't have time to stretch slowly enough and therefore when baby comes out it's almost like it's quickly 'wrenched' open and you can then get a lot of inflammation and bruising of the pelvis internally. (ouch).
She suggested I take a 5 day course of Nurofen 4 times a day. I checked with the pharmacist and it's OK to take while BF. It has started to feel better since taking the nurofen.
Oh, and I also have a bladder infection so on anti-biotics for that too .

I got a list of exercises from the physio, and I am determined to get my body right again. I just did my exercises and was quite shocked at how weak some of my muscles feel (from a professional point of view!!).

Right, sorry about all that, thought some of you might be able to relate to it. I think the moral of the story is.....look after yourselves and these poor bodies that have just been thru labour/pregnancy. Don't expect things to feel normal for at least 6 weeks.

Having a BBQ today with my bro, sis and her boyfriend and 'the girls'. Hope the sun comes out!

Best be off.....

Asisics- congratulations!!!!!who was/were your midwife(s)?? So glad your home birth ppened as planned! There is a sling meet on Tuesday in Hebden, I'm hoping to go but might be just too soon for you?! I didn't make the one the Tues after J was born with this blardy cold I've still got...but theoretically see you there?
Congratulations blobsmummy on William's arrival, and Chuffed for not ony being at home but finding time to post as well! And real nappies x 3? Did I read that right? Wow!!!
GCG- thank you for the advice, I wasn't playing too much, honest! More walking around supervising playing....with Jas in a sling of course....I wonder when we'll get around to her having a ride in the pram (we've got K primed that Jas will be using 'her' pram). It is a travel system but the carseat doesn't fit my car, so there isn't even that temptation to use it, and the car seat weighs a ton- now that would knacker me trying to carry her in that!
I did get checked out when Jas was a week old at my chiropractor, and she's happy with how I'm doing, and we're going back 4 weeks to keep on track- its really not that bad, I guess I've got so few problems compared to last time I can complain about little niggles. Can't wait for this cold to shift though, its been 2 weeks now! Handy getting it the same day as new baby, I know exactly how long I've been feeling rough!
Truly hope you feel better soon GCG, sounds the pits with infections and wobbly pelvis...
hugs all round,
touch wood Jas seems to be going longer for feeds- I can feed lying down (works best if use top boob, figured that out last time around) but need to sit up to get her going properly first- done that lots the last couple of nights!

goodcatholicgirl · 11/05/2008 08:17

mumofk and pina glad things are better for you both today.

asicsgirl congrats on the birth of Arley! I love the top pic of you and him in bed, so sweet. Enjoy!

congrats to all the new arrivals and their mummies!

Pina - if it's any consolation Leo's doing exactly the same. Gone from feeding 3-4 hourly like a dream to 1-2 hourly for last 36 hours and coming off lots during feeds and screaming. Today is a bit better than yesterday but my boobs are sore, my head is pounding and I'm just too tired to get much perspective on the improvement. Apparently we don't have thrush which is obviously a good thing but made me cry even more as I just wanted an answer to why he's fussing so much (other than the obvious one of being a new baby!!)

Anyway, DH has taken him out for a walk so going to try and get my head down for a bit.

podglet · 12/05/2008 09:12

Congrats Asics - lovely pics Glad you got the homebirth you wanted.

GCG - ouchy! Pelvis sounds v painful. Hope you enjoyed the BBQ though. We can start having BBQ's now as BIL built us a brick one this weekend. It will be usable by Wednesday so guess what we're having for tea that evening!

Pina & Casserole - we have had a couple of days of frequent feeding but I am expecting a growth spurt soon. Libby also gets confused between hungry and tired so will scream for food, take 3 mouthfuls and nod off she is now quite often awake for a couple of hours between naps in the day, she'll have a big feed at the start and at the end of each "awake" session.

goodcatholicgirl · 12/05/2008 11:13

Morning all,

Cerys is too being a bit more erratic with her feed times. Sometimes she goes 4 hrs or more, sometimes an hour??? [confused emotion]. I am definitely more chilled than I was with DD1, as I now just try and think, well if she is hungry, I will feed her, whereas with DD1 I used to really get my knickers in a twist if she didn't stay in a 'regular' feed pattern. It is a bit annoying but I am just trying to go with it. I'm thinking that in this heat they are probably getting thirsty rather than hungry, and I certainly don't want her to dehydrate, so I will just keep getting my boobs out!!!

We had a lovely BBQ saturday thanks.

Yesterday we had DH's cousin and his wife over for the afternoon. She is 31/40 pg after years of TTC (successful on 4th IVF attempt). It was heart-warming to see them with Cerys and getting so excited about their baby coming soon. They will make fabby parents.

Other than that, I am getting a bit with DH at the moment over one thing. It is DD1's 2nd birthday on Saturday and we have to have his whole family over for birthday tea. It's tradition (except there's so many of us we seem to do it every bloody week!!). I had a long chat with DH before DD2 was born and we agreed that it was too much with a new baby, so we would get them to all come over separately just for birthday cake and tea. Well now he's decided that cos Cerys is such a good baby, they can come over as normal (i.e. all 16, yes, 16 of them at once), but we will get take away. He doesn't seem to get that it's having a houseful of kids that stresses me out, not just doing the food. He was on the phone to his mum yesterday saying "well if you all come Friday, once the kids have finished school, then you can stay later as they won't have to get up for School Saturday". Meanwhile I am giving him daggers looks across the lounge!!
I got really upset about it last night. I hate them all coming over at the best of times. He just doesn't get it. I kept trying to say that there's not many people with a 2 week old baby would be happy to have 16 people for dinner, but I have to be careful what I say cos I don't want him to think I've been moaning to all my RL friends or on MN about his family (even though I have!!).
Looks like I'm just gonna have to go with it, grin and bear it. Think I might just escape upstairs to feed Cerys all night!!!

Sorry for that moan.
DD1 has her 2 year developmental check today.

Bye for now, have a nice day all.
