Mocat that sounds very scary. There can't be a worse sound than that of LOs choking but I've been told it is totally normal.

Silly question maybe but what are your LOs wearing? Stella's in a little cotton romper but not entirely sure what kind of thing she should be in in this heat

Will post on routine later but she slept from 11 til 630 for the third time in a row. Amazing what a difference it makes tho I feel a bit crappy today with a headache and very dry throat.

Off to sit in the garden while bubble naps.

sorry not to have been on for a few days - ycbs what a pain - i know what you mean about it making sense not to go higher but can you convince your dh? if you look willing they may compromise a little more.

it's so hot here again today - samuel is in a short sleeved top and nappy! he is in short sleeved baby gros at night with no covers or gro bag, but it's so hot!

welcome new 2 people - sorry can't remember names

about travel with lo's - we went to bordeaux when ds2 was 3 months old. he was fine on the plane generally and travelling, and just a bit upset after with the pressure - couple of days with lots of yelling but after that ok. we generally wash all his bottles etc in the dishwasher on hot setting and don't sterilise separately (religiously sterilised with ds1 but have been more relaxed etc with ds2!). and yes boiled water out of the tap is fine to use - if it's normal drinking water iykwim?

have also been offering cooled boiled water and it's not really going down very well, but then ds1 wouldn't touch the stuff, even in thailand at 11 months! we had to give him very very very weakened formula. now he drinks water more than anything else and a lot of it as well! he particularly likes evian 2l bottles and will go though a whole one if you give him the chance!

anyway, samuel yelling again so i must go!

Hello all, good to see everyone seems ok. I love to try and keep up with it all, but if I miss a few days it's hard to find time to catch up, let along join in..

Big sympathy for magicfairy and the mastitis, I had it on day 7 with DS1 and a couple of times later. Have so far managed to avoid it this time. I did find expressing helped because it's easier to massage the blocked areas. I read that a wide toothed comb can be used to try to 'brush' down th blockage.

YCBS I'm with your DH on the house, you're in such a good position, with no chain. But it's so hard if you fall in love with a place. Good luck!

monkeysmama · 28/07/2008 15:48

YCBS Sorry to hear about the house. We lost our dream house about 3 years back and it took almost a year of searching to find another one but we did and it is even nicer! Good luck!

Has anyone taken their LOs swimming yet?

DD has her 8 week check on Wednesday (I have my 6 week check tomorrow) at 11 weeks?? I am a tad concerned that she is going to be really ill afterwards. What should I be prepared for? Should I go and buy our first calpol sachets?

Anyone have any thoughts on baby signing? I have a sister with special needs who signs and dd will learn that in time but interested in what you all think / who's tried baby signing.

Enjoy the sunshine!

MM

monkeysmama · 28/07/2008 15:49

P.S Magicfairy - are you feeling better yet? Hope so.

beanybean · 28/07/2008 16:07

Hi youcannotbeserious, sorry about your house - thought I'd let you know what I've been advised in the current market as my mate works in property. She said to offer 15 per cent under the asking price as lots is being reduced at the moment. The property you're interested in may not have been on the market that long so that's why they've refused. It's difficult when you really like somewhere but may be worth holding out a bit longer and offering again.

Also, my LO's (11weeks) routine is similar to you (without the dog walking!) and I too was bathing her in wake time as she loves it but have recently moved it to the evening, around 7pm - followed by a bit of play time, bottle and bed - so far so good it seems to be working!

Niknak21 · 28/07/2008 16:35

MM I did sing and sign with DS1 , I didn't do it enough with him, but he would do please and thank you. I think the key is to pick a handful of signs and use them all the time. They say they can't actually do it back until they're 9 mnths. I found it to be a lovely singing class, I do plan to take DS2, but practice with him a bit more.

ycbs - I am sorry to hear about the house. Lol at Harry being a surprise!! Have you tried comfort eating to get over loss of house? Re singing - won't Harry think you sing like an angel 'cause you're his mummy?

monkeysmama No swimming on the agenda. Takes a good 30 mins to get ready to go to the shops never mind swimming!!

flick Vest (with poppers) and nappy during the day; babygrow without a vest at night.

I can har DH going through the options in the next room with DS: 'Are you tired? Do you need your nappy changed? Are you too warm?' I know what's coming next and sure enough 'When did you last feed him? 'Old faithful!!

Pinkmist · 28/07/2008 19:27

Hi all,
never posted on the a.n thread but watched closley, and got huffy as you all had your babies before me!
Lewis was born 15/5 ten days overdue, infact the night before i was induced.
He weighed 8lb 12 and managed with only gas and air, quite a shock as ds1 was 6lb 3!

Anyways Lewis is doing good, usually sleeping from 9-6 and occasionally 9-9
He was 12lb 4 two weeks ago, and enjoys his food!

monkeysmama · 28/07/2008 20:55

Welcome pinkmist. Nice to have some new people joining us, especially since we all seem to have gone quiet recently!

Mocat's suggestion that YCBS should comfort eat made me laugh

Just got in from a fantastic Argentinian restaurant with windows opening out on to Blackheath and lovely cool air blowing in. DD was smiling and happier than she's been all day. I love this weather but must be hard for our LOs.

beanybean · 28/07/2008 21:56

LO really struggled to get to sleep tonight- the temp says 27 degrees in our room. Bless her she was just lying there awake, not crying just looking around. Sounds like a storm brewing outside to expect it to tip down and then be really humid.

Got my first weigh in a weightwatchers tomorrow having put on two stone with DD but was already overweight when I got PG so lots to lose. Wish me luck ladies!

luckymummy74 · 28/07/2008 22:17

Evening all phew! what a scorcher!

I haven't got much time so I will reply to posts but can't remember who said what in each case...sorry!

ebay I'm afraid I'm one of those last minute snipers . I literally don't bid until the last 30 secs. It really works. I set my phone alarm to remind me when bidding is ending.

drinking water If you are BF, you shouldn't have to supplement with water. I know that's hard to imagine in this heat, but it's true! DD1 was born in May 06, when we had that super-hot summer, and I never gave her water, even in 35 degrees. The BF experts say that breast milk is enough. I'm not sure how it works for formula fed babies.

choking Yes, DD2 does cough/choke (OK, not actually choke, but it sounds like it!) quite a bit thoughout the day. I just ignore it now, she's fine (I'm such a bad mummy!)

signing We did it half-heartedly with DD1 but she did do the sign for 'milk' and 'food' and 'drink'. I think it's hard to do all the time, with all the words, so we just picked about 5 important ones and used that.

swimming We took DD1 from when she was 4 months old, but I'm hoping to take DD2 very soon as I am really missing going swimming with DD1!!! DD2 is 3 months now. Second lot of jabs due soon.

YCBS gutted for you about the house. Maybe it will work out as possibly no-one else will offer and they might come back to you in a few weeks. Not being rude, but there's not a lot of people who would be able to afford that sort of house, so I can't see them getting loads of offers.
I've just sent you an email about meeting up on Weds this week??

Right, I have to go and watch BB .

LM xxx

P.S. I am very proud of DD1 who managed two 2 hour car journeys today with no toileting accidents, even though she fell asleep on one!! [proud mummy emotion]

luckymummy74 · 28/07/2008 22:18

P.S. welcome to the new people!!

I have very happy memories of both my parents singing to me so before dd was born I bought loads of nursery rhyme books. I love music and she seemed to enjoy it when I was pregnant. We dance every day but everytime I try and sing to her, even just a little tune, she looks at me like I've pinched her.

Any other LOs kicking wildly? dd is propelling herself up and down her bed, our bed, her changing mat. My personal favourite was Sunday when she kicked off as her dad was changing her nappy on our bed, putting her feet in it and proceeding to smear poo all over our bed as she propelled herself up the sheet like an eel. Nice.

mumofkandj · 29/07/2008 09:16

Hi, been camping! its soo hot back in a house but at least not dealing with rain and toddler. Baby and camping fine, toddler is a bit more like hard work....

We did sing and sign- our local surestart did it free, but with DD1 we paid for level 2 as well. I was very uninpressed with our local teacher- very disorganised, no handouts so DH not very involved, however DD1 LOVED it, still asks for the dvd on. If we can do it for free we will, but I'm not paying. incidentally, one of the mums just moved and said the leader was fbulous where she came from, just our local one was pants.DD1 was great with using the signs too. we have a book we got from amazon which we liked , a board book for babies,(if you buy one check if you want British as opposed to American sing language).
Welcome to newbies, sorry trying to read to catch up, thisthread moves so quick!

Quick questions- my hair is finally starting to fall out (wondered what the problem was with the drain!), I think J is 13 weeks, is that the same for others?

Also, though I'm still leaking the other side with most feeds, I think its a little less.Is anyone else still leaking or is it just me? Last time I kept leaking for ages after my RL pals. I'm just getting hopeful it might stop soon.

Pinkmist · 29/07/2008 09:25

So that will be our summer over then.

Ds2 has his 6 week check tomorrow (despite being one day away from 11 weeks) so don't have any worries about him not performing lol.

I'm taking ds1 swimming soon, can't take ds2 with me obv as ds1 is only 2.11, although i will be taking him next week when ds1 is having a sleep over with my aunt and my wee cousin.

luckymummy74 · 29/07/2008 09:29

mumofk&j I hardly leak now, even after 10 hrs in the night. No hair falling out as far as I can see.

Our sing and sign teacher was crap too, I think that's why I didn't really get into it.

Feeling a bit with DH this morning. He said I could have a lie in today and he would get DD1 up. (I let him have a lie in on Sunday til 11am!!!) Anyway, I was in bed he was already up, and I heard DD1 moaning. I though he'd be up soon,to get her, but no. He claims to have not heard her . So I ended up getting up with her....... I am so tired at the moment.

Mocat · 29/07/2008 11:46

Morning ladies. The rain has stopped here (N.Ireland) and I've put a wash out on the line. DD (aged 5) amused herself by collecting ants while I pinned washing up and DS examined his hands. He seems to have noticed them in the last few days and yesterday he noticed has feet whilst sitting up in his car seat. He's fascinated!

monkeysmama DS can only push himself backwards if you hold his feet; lol at poo trail! He can do a mean hip thrust to the side if there is music on - no more leaving him unattended on changing table now !

mumofkandj Yes, my hair is falling out in handloads after I wash it. I usually have very thick hair so this saves me a trip to the hairdressers to get it thinned! I'm still using pads as I leak at odd times. I am definitely having my first period (so much for no periods if you're BF!) so Boots are making a load of money from me yet again!

ycbs I'm with you on the weather; I much prefer a rainy day! Y'day, we were in the car for about an hour each way and I was very distracted by trying to keep the temp low. I was undressing DS at each traffic light - one arm out of baby-grow at one set, the other arm at the next! How many points would that get me if the police stopped me?

lm74 You'll get your reward in heaven!!!

luckymummy74 · 29/07/2008 12:30

DH is currently redeeming himself by building the new patio table and chairs set that was delivered this morning .
Where has the sun gone?

DD2 is soooooooooo cute today, smiling and giggling loads. What a lovely age

monkeysmama · 29/07/2008 12:31

Thanks for all the signing (and singing) replies. I think we might try it though our HV centre is under staffed so they aren't running any classes and we'll have to find a private one.

I am using a Boots expert post pregnancy shampoo and conditioner. I don't know if it because of that but my hair's not coming out yet. Though I have pulled some out!

I still leak sometimes. I bought some washable pads which I much prefer and still wear them everyday but can go braless at night with no puddles.

Off to my 6 week check up now. Of course it's on a day when I feel ill and dd is tired rather than our usual sunny selves!
