lm74 Glad the physio found the source of your pain and that it can be worked on. I'm sure that your DH wouldn't mind rubbing it if there's a nice cup of tea in it for him! I hope you got a good sleep after your demanding day!

Ds got his second set of injections yesterday and he was really upset in the evening. We had to give him paracetemol for the first time and it knocked him out. Only 2.5ml but he slept for 12 hours!! Not worth his pain though, it was horrible to see him so distraught. Today's 3 month check wasn't as I had expected. No particular questions about his development but a welcome opportunity for me to ask questions and talk things over. HV isn't concerned about his sleeping as he is alert and very responsive when he is awake (as you'd suggested lm - thanks). His massive weight gain has slowed to an average rate - DH was worried DS'd grow into a giant at whom we'd have to throw hunks of meat in the garden as he wouldn't fit in the house! He has grown 3cm in the last month - stretchy .

Weird about the nightmares - I had two horribe dreams last night about DH and they've been hanging over me all day. My mind must be reminding me to pay more attention to him and not keep dismissing him .

I have stored a mighty 5ml of breast milk in the freezer! I am so pleased at my clever boobs . That's the first towards building up a supply for when I return to work.

Mocat · 23/07/2008 16:49

monkeysmam Thanks for that reassuring break-down of your DD's day - plenty of sleep there too!!

monkeysmama · 23/07/2008 17:32

Mocat I read in one of my baby books today that from 10 weeks we should expect them to sleep longer! That might mean at night though? I was a bit worried at first but then figured that since she's so alert when she is awake there is no problem.

Odd hey, how it still doesn't feel like she's sleeping a lot!

I am suffering from increasing and very bad back and neck ache. My top vertebra are very sore and my whole body feels like I've been in a fight. This baby malarky is taking its toll!

Mocat · 23/07/2008 17:37

monkeysmama My shoulder twinges as I write and I get a particular ache below my right shoulder when I change DS's nappy!! Aren't we a great ad for motherhood!

luckymummy74 · 23/07/2008 20:40

Well I'm not glad to hear you are all having aches and pains too, although it is reassuring to me to know that it's not just my body that is completely knackered from motherhood!! I know all my aches and pains are from poor position/posture and having to lift a heavy baby and a heavier toddler in and out of carseat, etc etc. I have been wondering how on earth everyone else seemed to be escaping this.....

DD2 went to bed after her last feed at 7:15pm. She is still screaming......How on earth am I ever gonna get her in the same room as DD1, which is the plan.....

mocat, I PMSL at the image of your DH throwing chunks of meat to your DS in the garden....

luckymummy74 · 24/07/2008 14:30

Is anyone there???

I am having a lovely day in the garden. DD1 at CM all morning and DD2 asleep...so I assumed the position on the sunlounger and thought sod the housework....I know I will pay for this later when they are both monkeys at bedtime and DH is on nights....

Mocat · 24/07/2008 14:37

Lm You lazy woman! Get back to some housework.

luckymummy74 · 24/07/2008 18:54

mocat!!!! (you cheeky wench!)

Mocat · 24/07/2008 19:01

When I came out of hospital (after a month's stay) I had lost half a stone. The food was great but the portions were small and I didn't eat between meals. In the last three months I see that my knees and upper arms have filled out so I'm obviously putting weight on again. The dilemma is - do I consciously diet while I'm BF? I know that too strict a diet will cause my fat stores to release toxins into the breast milk so there is no way I'm going to risk that. I also know that BF burns 200 - 500 calories per day. I have been eating sensible meals but with a lot of crap in between. Do you ladies think that cutting out the crap in between will do the trick? Are any other BFers dieting? With regard to exercise, my section scar hurts if I run so I have to avoid that for a few weeks yet. I walk a mile or so every few days but as you all know, exercisisng with a baby is tricky. When I do walk my DD is always with me and her little legs don't work up to a brisk pace. Any brilliant advice?

thefortbuilder · 24/07/2008 20:16

mocat can you take dd swimming? also eating better between meals - fruit, carrot sticks etc will be better than eating crap. i did this kind of thing with ds1 and it really helped and didn't seem to do any harm with bf'ing either

lm hope you had a lovely day in the sun! it's been glorious here as well (clapham) and supposed to hold over the weekend

mocat no advice sorry, but with ds1 my preg weight stayed on till i finished breastfeeding, but then got preg again 2 months later!

LM74 magic fedings tips was referring to something ycbs said about you giving her a tip, cant remeber now, no worries, a misunderstanding!
I live in a village between Redruth and Falmouth, Cornwall is a beautiful place to live (one of the reasons we came back from oz) but the reality is quite harsh, very high prices (rent, houses etc) and very low wages . it does make us think we would be better off somewhere else, but whenever somewehere else we are thinking of Cornwall!!

Sorry to everyone else i havent been on for ages and cant possibly catch up individually.

Well things here got better after the long weekend of poorly kids and grumpy parents. I went camping on Sat night with both boys whilst dh went ona stag do. I went with freinds and their kids and we all had a great time, both boys were on top form and i felt like i had a break (kind of!) It waas also good to have a weekend away from dh as the last week had taken its toll and we were hardly speaking to each other. we are now back on good terms again and appreciate each other!

Ds2 has been really good this week and has started settling for dh and not me, which is brill. dh has put him down to sleep the last 2 nights in arow!

Last night ds2 only woke up twice for feeds (instaed of 3 or 4), 2 and 4, which is great but has left me with the tell tale signs of mastitis brewing . My right boob has been sore all day and at tea time i came over all funny and fluey like. I am waiting for dh to get home so i can have bath and try to relieve it with a hot and cold flannel. I really hope i dont feel like a great big bag of poo in the morning!

Today i have tried Ds2 in the cot instaed of his moses basket as the cot is attached to the side of our bed and it would be easier at night time if he was in there. so his afternoon nap i put him in there and he was fine and has been there now since 7pm , i must go and check on him now though as hes a tummy sleeper and i get paranoid!

Sorry about the long post, must come on here more often!

luckymummy74 · 24/07/2008 21:13

magicfairy My DH has an Aunty in Falmouth and we always visit them when we go to Cornwall. I will tell DH what you said about low wages and high rent as he is ALWAYS trying to persuade me to move to Cornwall. I do love it there, but I would miss my friends and family too much, it's a long way from Hertfordshire!!

mocat This is one of my fave subjects . I actually put weight on after DD1, I was heavier 6 months after having her than I was when I was 9 months pg . I ate crap for the whole summer after I had her and kept telling myself I couldn't diet cos I was BFing. I even stopped BF at 5 mths because I was sick of being fat and wanted to diet properly.
So....this time around I was a lot more conscious of my weight and how hard it was to lose last time. I basically do weightwatchers, but allow myself an extra 10 points a day (so 35 instead of 25). That's what WW recommend if you are BF. I find that I don't go hungry as I eat 'healthy' snacks but I eat regularly throughout the day. I have a bowl of cereal mid-afternoon to keep me going til dinner. I have crap discipline (in a way) so I literally do not have the crap food in the house, then if it's not there, I can't eat it, IYSWIM.
I agree with you that you shouldn't strict diet while BF, but this WW seems sensible enough and easy to follow. I don't go to meetings, just do it myself and weigh myself once a week ( I even have a little chart up in the kitchen to record my weight each week to keep me motivated ). So far it's working, I haven't lost weight in the last 6 weeks or so, but I'm maintaining the weight I was before I got pg. I stick to my points most of the time, but I do love the treats at the weekend. For me personally, being 'slim' (that's slim for me, I'm still 11 stone) is more rewarding/enjoyable than the chocolate.
Hope that helps....oh, and DH always says that weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise, so don't worry about not being able to exercise. Remember BF burns 500 cals a day, that's equivalent to an hour at the gym for me!!!

Mocat · 24/07/2008 21:37

flick I had thought about swimming but I wondered if it would wrench my scar ( you can tell by using the word 'wrench' I've already made my mind up ). Thanks for the suggestion. It would take a week to get rid of all the body hair that's on show - that in itself would burn off about a zillion calories !

Magicfairy Blimey, pregnant 2 months later! That would be quite a weight gain!
I had such a sore boob yesterday, it was over producing and DS wasn't feeding as often as usual. I expressed some but it still really hurt all day. It's a funny kind of pain, isn't it? My arm and back always join in in sympathy. The relief when he has fed is great. I hope your's didn't develop into anything nasty.

lm74 One of my fave subjects too!! I had DH on the internet this eve frantically trying to find out how many calories are in coffee. I'd misculated spectacularly and told him there were about 150 in a cup . He drinks quite a few in a day and he was insensed that they could be making him put on weight. Eventually we worked out that I'd done a ridiculous calculation and there are hardly any cals there at all. Poor man. I am like you in that I will eat something if it's in the cupboard, even if I'm not that hungry. I had bought about 5 boxes of Thornton's chocs for the midwives who cared for me in hospital. Needless to say, none of the MWs got a single choc and the boxes have been polished off here . Several did go to DD's teacher and classroom assistant at the end of term but still... A bowl of cereal is a good mid-afternoon snack, good tip! Raw carrots too (thanks flick). You sound like you have a good way of making this work for you lm; I saw online somewhere today that WW does a special programme for nursing mums so that must be what you've fine-tuned for yourself.

Hi YCBS !!!

I can add to all this talk of weight loss, went to rosemary conley class again and i've lost 3.5 lbs since last week, plus I got slimmer of the week! So i'm very pleased about that as basically been really good all week on the diet (ie starving hungry most of the time!) and didn't think i'd lost any as my scales at home were wrong!

indigoblue well done on your weight loss, that's fantastic, and a real boost for you I'm sure.
Friday is my home 'weigh in' day, I haven't lost any (not expecting too tbh) but have not put any on, depsite eating more than my points allowance this week. I don't know what it is, I'm like a woman possessed, I just want to be eating all the time!!!

YCBS Did you ring the agents? House looks lovely, just like something Kirsty and Phil would find .

Another lovely sunny day here...I think I'd better do some housework before hitting the sunlounger, it's just so tempting when they are all asleep (incl DH just off night shift).

Mocat · 25/07/2008 12:55

YCBS What a great house! I'm a big fan of older houses. Ours is a lovely 1920s semi with the original kitchen - it's lovely but needs us to do a fair bit of cosmetic work. I like the giving up of tea which has no calories!!

indigoblue Well done for losing so much in one week!

lm74 I know you meant the choc-ice but I've got an image in my head of that groovy private detective from the 1980s tv drama. Great moustache (him - not you)!

Off to the seaside for the w'end; staying at my mum's again.

luckymummy74 · 25/07/2008 13:58

I have a great moustache too that would rival magnum's anyday !!!
