pregnabrain x-post! welcome back... so glad you are starting to feel better. fingers crossed for recovery as you say.

luckymummy74 · 02/07/2008 12:11

pregnabrain hope you continue to feel better. It's such hard work this bringing up babies lark, and I am lucky enough to have had relatively good babies!

DD2 did well again last night, fed at 7pm then didn't wake til 5am again!! I know I could feed her later and she would go right thru til proper morning (allegedly!) but tbh, I prefer having her settled in the evening, and then in the morning I feed her around 5am, then she goes back to sleep til about 9:30am, so I can sort DD1 out on my own.

Just been to mothercare to buy all things needed for potty training.....minus the valium, which suprisingly Mothercare don't sell . Bought a portable 'travel' potty on a friend's recommendation, called a potette. It comes with liners that you then throw away. I couldn't find the liners anywhere then found them on Amazon, normally £7 for pack of 10 but Amazon do them for £2.78 or something?!! So even with P&P much cheaper! Oooo, I do love a bargain!!
Just ordered a new garden table and chairs from Homebase website too, £50 cheaper than advertised in store!!

Right, must get some lunch....

Pregnabrain: Hugs. sorry you are feeling bad and don't worry about not posting, we are still hear for you when you can.

LM, when did DD1 turn 2? DS1 turned two 16/6 and we have only got as far as buying big boy spiderman pants. I am not sure he is ready to start.

YCBS: Enjoy yor break, 2 1/2 weeks with no viewings still. Will leave it another couple of weeks and then take it off if still no viewings.

Asicsgirl: Your DS is doing well with his sleeping, my DS2 also is very restless and upset for about an hour in the evening.

RE: Camping It is also something which I have never enjoyed, I like the idea but never liked it

We had a lovely sunny day today.

luckymummy74 · 02/07/2008 18:23

michell81 DD1 was 2 in May. She talks lots for her age (so I've been told) and tells every time she does a poo and sometimes tells us when she is doing a wee. She is a very 'bright' little girl (at the risk of sounding like an Alpha-Mum!!) so we thought she'd be easy. However, she is very keen to sit on the potty but has done nothing in it. She seems quite freaked out by poos even though we have shown her her poo in her nappy and show her how we toss it down the toilet etc (even shown her how mummy & daddy poo too ). We will see what next week brings. We have a busy weekend out both days so hence not starting til Monday.
Today we went to town to buy her 'big girl pants' and let her choose them etc as the books suggest. At first she was saying 'I don't want to wear pants!' but seemed OK once choosing them. Only time will tell. I'm not looking forward to it.

Just have to share a proud mummy moment with you all....DD1 was part of the Dr Barnados 'Big Toddle' today, a kind of sponsored walk for toddlers. She did it with the CM today, and came home sporting a massive grin, a sticker and a MEDAL!!!! OMG, I nearly cried, she was soooo proud of herself, it was like she'd run the marathon!! She has a certificate and everything!

That's all from me for now,

by the way, where is pina??? It's been a while. Also, just wondering how others like JBR, pazzaplustwo etc are?? If you are reading this, let us know how you are.

Good evening ladies

Had another lovely day with dd. Since she's started smiling I must rank among the happiest women in the world! Each morning she smiles when she sees me and every evening now we have half hour skin to skin and a story and she smiles and laughs all the way through. We read the same story every night and it is almost like she knows what is coming next. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but she definitely seems to know the picture she likes is coming up.

Our attempt at a routine hasn't been entirely successful. Well, she is sleeping through EveRZ few nights and always wakes and feeds at the same times but we've been trying to start bath, bed routine. She isn't a massive bath fan-odd for a baby born in water but she's been hysterically crying each time we've tried the bath bit. a few mum friends said we're starting too late at 830 but dh isn't home til half seven, she has a feed at half 9 and that finishes the routine nicely I think. But now I feel a bit stupid- do all the first time mums put their babies to bed at 7ish or is it just those with other dcs?

Dh and I are getting on much better though I still am not happy really. I suppose I need to think what's at the root of this but getting time to think isn't easy is it!?

Hope everyone's well. I am glad to see some posts from people we've not heard of for a while. Hope Pina's ok.

Take care all. Hope we all have good nights!

Hi

Just about managing to keep up with this thread but don't have much time for posting!

Pregnabrain - glad you are feeling less depressed and you are starting to enjoy your dd, hopefully it will only get better!

Asics - hope the sleeping is improving, I can't wait til ds sleeps through.

LM74 - good luck with the potty training, I will have to attempt it with dd at some point but I don't think she's ready yet so I'm happy to put it on hold!

JBR - it must be hard not having your house finished, we are about to have our bathroom totally gutted and re-done but I'm planning on going to my mum's while it's being done.

MM - sounds like you're really enjoying your dd, and glad things are bit better with your dh.

YCBS - glad Harry's check up went well, ds has got an appointment with a paediatrician but only because he was in special care. I think the only reason that people put their baby to bed at say 7 or 8pm is that when they do eventually start sleeping through the night and aren't needing to be fed they are then already in the habit of going to bed at the earlier time & you can reclaim your evening time back for yourself without them expecting to stay up til ten or whatever. But they are still at that age where they often don't settle well in the evening so I'd stick with whatever works best for you!

Jamie is doing well, he's over 12lbs now & looks about 3 months old because of his size even though he's only 6 weeks. He's stopped being as sick all the time since putting him on the thicker formula so I'm pleased about that. dd seems to be going through a shy toddler phase and not wanting to do anything I want her to do which is a bit maddening but never mind!

luckymummy74 · 03/07/2008 13:30

Got to be quick as I have a hairdressers appt at 2pm .

YCBS Not planning on have a paediatrician, Personally don't see the point unless baby has any major health issues?? DD1 is 2 and has only had to see the GP twice in her life (for chest inf).

Right, will try and do more later
xx

asicsgirl · 03/07/2008 15:23

hi all

monkeysmama ds1 hated the bath for months! i eventually got him acclimatised by giving him his bath at about 11am when he'd woken up from his nap as he was usually in a good mood then. it did work eventually and now he loves baths, but it took a while, and he was older than this when we started too! good luck...

we don't put ds2 'to bed' until he conks out in the evening (usually about 9:30 atm). there would be no point as he cluster feeds in the eve anyway so he'd be up again wanting food in 5 mins lol. ds1 was the same and i remember there was a point where we realised he was capable of going to bed and staying down from about 8pm, but again he was older by at least a few months (can't remember when unfortunately!)

jbr and indigo nice to hear from you again!

jbr wow it sounds like you have a lot on your plate. are you ok?

indigo jamie is doing really well by the sound of it! glad the new formula is doing the trick.

lm74 good luck with the potty training! i was really worried about it too but ds1 got with the programme v quickly. we did wait until we were absolutely sure he was ready though and had lots of support from nursery who were great. summer is a good time to do it as you can let dd1 run around with no 'bottoms' on for a bit! other things we found helpful were having a potty on every floor of the house; taking potette with us when out; lots of rewards e.g. a book for doing a poo on the potty; lots of cheapo elasticated trousers from asda; cheap plimsolls if they need to be wearing shoes so good shoes don't get spoilt; soda water for getting wee out of carpets have fun!! it made a huge difference to ds1 who seemed much happier once out of nappies - think it made him feel really grown up!

we've been to the bf cafe this morning and got some tips on getting ds2 to use his tongue properly when feeding. see how we go... then met daddy in town for lunch off to give ds2 a bath now as he just did a huge poo so seems appropriate!

luckymummy74 · 03/07/2008 17:56

asicsgirl thanks for the great potty training tips. Luckily I got her some doodles in the sale yesterday for £6 so they can be used as they'll go thru the washing machine. Her CM is fab and very supportive, also has a lot more experience than us so that should help too. Will keep you posted!!

Well, after we ordered our garden table etc, for some reason it didn't go thru so we had to re-order it today, and it was now £150 cheaper than when we ordered it yesterday!!!!!!!! So it cost us £200 instead of £500!!!! V lucky!

Must go, I am 1 handed typing while I express and it's doing my head in!!

lm xx

mumofkandj · 03/07/2008 19:46

magicfairy wow at camping! i really want to go but dh isn't keen, and as we bedshare I'm not sure how I'd cope with jas in my sleeping bag, and don't think she'd sleep outside it...ho hum. We'd only be somewhere near like my parents garden. Last time we camped was there when K was a huuge bump and I'd just got out of hospitalfor funny fainting do's (cancelled real holiday but just wanted to do something different!). ahh, the memories of trogging through the garden upteen times to the loo!
LM good luck with otty training. K ended up training us- she saw the knickers I'd bought in advance and refused to wear nappies during the day from that day on, and a few weeks ago told me she was a big girl now and didn't need nappies at night either (she had been getting us up if she needed a wee in the night, but we sometimes didn't wake up in time so wet nappy.) and decided she would go to the toilet on her own. Our challenge has been getting her to get out of bed without us!
oh dear, no note taking here, and I'm ready for bed. We've been out at an open farm all day and this fresh air wears me out as well as k!
hugs all, hope life is getting smoother.

KangaAndRoo · 03/07/2008 23:01

just a quickie, have a million things to do whilst they are both asleep, just wanted to reply to mumofkandj - we co sleep to and instead of sleeping bags we just took loads of quilts, slept on 3 and had one over all 4 of us, it was lovely and cosy!

IndigoBlue · 04/07/2008 13:23

Kanga - ds is quite big too, he weighs the same at 6 weeks as dd did when she was 15 weeks so there is a massive difference! I think it's in his benefit though as it's good for him to be sturdy with a big sister trying to sit on him etc!!

LM74 - that's good about the table! I've just bought a new table for the garden too and it took dh about 3 evenings to put it together - I've now been banned from buying anymore flat pack stuff for a while!

Forgot to say yesterday that I'm really relieved as Jamie now does loads of smiles and gurgles at people, I was desperate for him to start smiling as it's the first major milestone and because of the meningitis I was worried it could affect his development but so far so good.

going to upload some more recent pics on to my profile now.

monkeysmama · 04/07/2008 13:44

Afternoon ladies

Will try not to repeat my multiple posting from the other evening!

I hate camping ! But I really like the fact that from our posts you can tell we're all quite different with different interests. Makes me think the advice and support we give each other is more balanced in a way.

DP is at a wedding today. We'd expected it to be our first formal outing with dd & were very excited until they called last week to say no children means no children. We pointed out that dd is 7 weeks old, very quiet & breast fed but no. In light of my recent issues with dp did consider going but I felt a bit angry with them for refusing dd in the anyway so decided not to make the effort.

I am not going to be with dd tomorrow for most of the day anyway as I am going to a funeral in Italy - flying there early morning & back in the afternoon is the plan though at the moment I may not go as I can't express enough milk for a whole day plus the possibility of flight delays! Maybe it is too much anyway. She is only 7 weeks. Not sure .

Hope everyone is okay and not suffering from hayfever like me!

MM

asicsgirl · 04/07/2008 14:01

just a quickie but mm i hate those 'no children' rules at weddings!! always seems so odd - what are weddings/ marriages about if not family?

monkeysmama · 04/07/2008 14:18

Me too! Especially since the groom is dd's godfather!

I don't get it either. Surely you exclude so many people by banning children, cos most people with children will just not be able to go if the kids can't come. Is it some special kid unfriendly location? One of the really nice things at my wedding was all the different ages and seeing all the kids get on together, a real family atmosphere.
I have to say I hated camping til I camped in Spain, and oh my goodness the difference it makes when it's hot and there's a lovely outdoor pool and a tapas bar on site! Still prefer a luxury hotel I have to say and couldn't cope camping with a baby.
