jentlydoesit, aww, your poor DD, hope she is feeling better now...you just don't think of babies getting constipated do you??? esp when all they drink is milk??! I never fails to amaze me how much DD2 has to strain to do a very watery wet poo .

asicsgirl you could always meet us in St Albans in the future if you are down visiting your Mum in Barnet??

mumofkandj I hope your DH starts to feel better soon, it sounds as though you are being super supportive so I'm sure that will help.

Baiyu It's so lovely to hear you happy again now that DP is home. Yes, I found sex pretty painful after DD1's birth, for about the first 4-6 times we did 'it', then it got less painful. Amazingly didn't hurt at all after DD2, I think cos her birth was so much quicker and easier, I didn't have any stitched this time etc. It won't last long. Just use lots of lube .
Haven't really got any tips on sleeping babies, I think I am just very lucky.......

DD2 has slept thru the night a few times, but not consistently. It doesn't seem to make any sense either, what time I feed her or how many feeds she's had in a day. She easily goes a long time between feeds (her sister was the same, not a very hungry baby). Often 5 hours, even during the day.
Last night fed at 5:30pm, then I had to wake her at 10pm, tried to feed her but she really wasn't interested and stayed almost asleep, then didn't wake til 4:30am!! Fed then, then at 9pm, 2pm, 7pm tonight. I put her in her crib after that last feed, she cried intermittenly for about 45 mins, but I just left her there as I knew she wasn't hungry as she'd just had a really good feed.

I'm planning to try a bit of a bedtime routine with her now (as DD1 allows!!). Bath, little massage with oil (5 mins is all time allows!) feed then bed. I'll see how long she goes.

I had a good but tiring day. Took them both to church, which involved two 20 min walks with DD1 in buggy and DD2 in sling. Went to see her cousins all afternoon, then back home 5-ish. Bathed them together, and put DD1 to bed then fed and put DD2 to bed.

My back muscles ache soooooo much, does anyone else get this or am I just really crap? I'm pretty fit normally and quite a strong 'strurdy' girl, but all this lifting and feeding and bathing etc is taking it's toll. Not good for a physio!!!

Right, I have to express now, as I gave DD2 a bottle earlier, so if I don't express my bosoms will explode in the night !!

YCBS thanks for the email, I will reply tomorrow properly when DD1 at CM's.

PFB is precious first baby.....(can't remember who asked)

Hello all! DD is lying on the feeding cushion tucking in so I finally have time to write a longer message.

for everyone who is having DH problems ? MM I would be mightily pissed off if my DH went out and turned his phone off. I give him a hard enough time going out when he gives me tonnes of notice. Hope it is all working out.

Baiyu I found sex sore the first time ? but put that down to internal stitches and lack of use. Got better after that. DH reports that not much has changed but he can?t feel it if I squeeze, so am madly upping the pelvic floor exercises!

asicsgirl sorry about DH?s reaction to your mum. My DH, who adores my mum, got a bit narky after having her stay with us for 10 days. To be honest I didn?t blame him as I would go mad if his mum (who is really lovely) stayed for that long, so I tried to be as understanding as possible.

mumofkandj glad things are slowly improving with your DH]

JentlyDoesIt poor you! I am glad things worked out with your DD, I would be crazed with worry if that happened to me!

LM74 thank you for your advise a while ago about running with split tummy muscles. I asked the doctor about it at my 6 week check and they were as useless as I expected. Everyone seems to be saying just be careful and stop if you feel crap. So I went for the shortest slowest run in the world last week and it was fine! Haven?t managed it again but hoping to go out tonight. It was great to get out again.

baiyu and gingerwench what do you think about meeting up in The Lot in the Grassmarket next wednesday (9th) at about 2ish? let me know. I will be the one with the gorgeous baby under my arm...

DD continues to be the biggest petal in the whole world and is now, at 7 weeks, sleeping through from 8.30 to 6.30 . She did it once last week and I was so surprised i didn't sleep worrying about her not feeding. We went away over the weekend and instead of being unsettled it continued! I am in shock. Long may it continue. I am now starting to nudge her bedtime earlier - we started her routine at 9 (bath, feed, bed) but was starting to have to wake her up for that so are now doing it at 8, which is going well. I am reluctant to move it any earlier as i know it will mean me having to get up earlier (lazy emoticon).

DD and I are going into work this week for a one off project that I am going back to lead. Everyone seems a bit shocked that I can cope with work, but it shoudl be ok. Also, I am now on statutory maternity pay, so the extra dosh they are going to bung me will come in very handy as we are trying to do lots ot our house atm.

Is anyone into knitting? I have just joined ravelry www.ravelry.com/ and am obsessed at looking up patterns of cute things to knit for DD.

Hi everyone, hope all is well, been lurking with not much time to actually post lately, or if I do it's one handed cos of DS on my chest and takes forever and then he wakes up and I have to give up anyway.
Sorry not to respond to people but glad to hear Baiyu that your DP is back and you found a flat, things will get easier now. Also, Jently sorry to hear about your LO, sounds really frightening, you don't think of them getting constipated before they're even on solids, do you?
Well my DS finally slept through the last 2 nights! From 10pm to 7.30am and then last night from 9pm to 5am. It's been a looooooong time coming as he's 14 weeks this week but of course he was a 36 weeker and has grown so much (from 5th percentile at birth to 46th last week) that I don't think he was physically able to drop a feed til now. The colic and wind is easing off as well now.
My mum's been a life saving saint these last few weeks and I don't know what I'd have done without her, luckily my DH and her get on fine.
The problem I'm having at the mo is the heat. Living here in Spain, it's now around 40degrees most days so going out at all is completely impossible after about 9.30 am until about 9 at night. I'm getting a bit bored sitting at home all day. I bought a sling but to be honest I haven't used it really as it got too hot to use.
Well, time to run, will try to keep up better next time!

luckymummy74 · 30/06/2008 12:17

YCBS Just sent you a long email . DD2 is 2 months (almost 9 weeks) today!
Sorry to hear you are feeling cos it's Monday...maybe we should make our meet up on a Monday or Tuesday? Oh, and 'Yay!' for Harry smiling....that must be some lampshade .
I think I must be sub-consciously feeling insecure as I keep dreaming that I'm not with DH anymore, and I'm trying to 'make it work' with another (random) bloke?! I wake up al relieved that DH is still with me and in my life .

walkingwomb the run sounds good...well done...build it up slowly, it sounds like you'll be OK, but the pelvic floor exercises will really help too.

Well, my plan worked quite well, I fed DD2 at 7pm last night, then put her to bed. She woke at 3am. tbh, even if I feed her at 10pm she wakes at 4am, so I think I'd rather have my evening to myself (to do housework ) as it still means getting up just once in the night. I was tempted to let her cry it out, but DH was working today so I didn't want her to disturb him too much. She then didn't need feeding til 8am.

I had a mad rush this morning as I had a physio appt for 9am and had to feed all 3 of us and leave the house by 8:30am to drop DD1 off at a friend's while I went. I then got a call to say the physio was off sick, which was a bit of a relief as I don't think I'd have made it!!! (Note to self, make appt for when DH is off work!!)

Just been to a new playgroup with DDs, met a friend there. It was very busy and very noisy and there were lots of children in a very small space!!! I didn't really enjoy it, everyone else seemed to know each other. I'm normally very confident but I felt like a real outsider, even though I was there with one of my BFs. It was hard trying to play and interact with DD1 while also trying to pacify DD2 who is normally asleep at that time. However, they are both asleep now!!!!

Right, I'm gonna go and have lunch while I can.....

gingerwench · 30/06/2008 12:18

walkingwomb sounds good - I'll be the one with a blue bugaboo bee and ginger hair!

baiyu · 30/06/2008 13:01

I'll catch up properly later but ww and gw that suits me. I'll be the one with the green close sling and short brown hair. Ooh, it's quite exciting! Should i be wearing a rose in my lapel? hehe.

walkingwomb · 30/06/2008 18:25

gingerwench and baiyu ARGH! DD's jab appointment just came through today and it is (yes you guessed it) for 2pm on Wed the 9th! Can we do the Thursday instead???

yes please rose in lapel...

magicfairy · 30/06/2008 21:57

hi all, well i cant possibly catch up personally as i cant remember who said what, not been on for a few days, sorry!

Things are still up and down here, the feeding is finally going well, ds2 is piling on the pounds and is too long for some 0-3month babygros already, he 7 weeks tomorrow! but over the weekend he has had a few hours a day of screeching, going red and fussing when feeding, cant work out if its wind, too hot or what, and it is always at different times of the day, today it was all morning?! But we are getting loads of smiles now, proper looking at you and really smiling, its soooooo cute, makes me melt every time!!

We were very brave on Saturday and took both boys camping for a freinds birthday , at first ds2 did his screeching hour or two, but then he chilled out and we had a great time , in fact they both slept better than they do at home, ds2 only woke for 2 feeds during the night , sods law though, the one night they sleep really well i stay up late!! has made me excited about summer now, more camping here we come!!

I have turned into activity mum for ds1, finding out about loads of stuff for him to do that i dont have to supervise him at,so i can feed ds2. its nice to meet other mums in my area, ds1 is loving it and we are all knackered by the end of the day, have even enrolled him at a creche for 1.5hours on a wed afternoon, its free if i attend the baby play session at the adjoing childrens centre. hes never been to a nursery before but seemed to love it when we went for a look, so we'll see how that goes

Anyway i think im gonna hit the sack, take care ladies

gingerwench · 01/07/2008 09:07

ww and baiyu thursday 10th at 2pm is fine with me.

magicfairy i can't wait for genuine smiles!!

Mitchell81 · 01/07/2008 09:52

YCBS- I am very pleased to say that no I am not PG, got the implant put in yesterday so now I won't need to worry. Thanks for asking, hope you have a busy week so friday comes quickly.

Sorry for not doing individual messages, glad to hear everyone is enjoying their little ones. Jealous of all your meet ups.

Does anyone know if you can use tap water and boil it for bottles in Majorca? We have just applied for Jamies Uk passport and are hoping to go away on the 19th July, so fingers crossed we get it back in time. Never been to Majorca but only want a 2 hour flight from Aberdeen.

Enjoy your day

macaco · 01/07/2008 11:29

Mitchell absolutely YES. You can drink it too you know! I live in Spain and I drink the tap water. It's as safe as in Britian. Have a lovely holiday

Mitchell81 · 01/07/2008 11:43

Thanks Macaco, didn't mean to offend. I am just being cautious I suppose not knowing what countries are safe to use the water. Have been sick from the water in Turkey.

macaco · 01/07/2008 12:12

none taken. where in majorca are you going?

luckymummy74 · 01/07/2008 12:48

Hi all

Having a lovely day in the sunshine. DD2 has been asleep all morning and DD1 and I have been in the garden since 10:30am. I got her paddling pool and out and she is loving it.

YCBS: San Francisco sounds nice, wouldn't mind doing a long flight with baby, it's the two year that would be the problem. Did a 12 hour flight to SA in december with DS1 who was 18 months and wouldn't want to deal with him and DD and baby now.

LM: jealous of sunshine, we have grey skies, wind and its freezing, yesterday was good though. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Tonight DH is away for the night, so have to get kids to bed on my own. Not a problem in the night as used to doing night time feeds on my own. I just hate having to leave DS2 to cry whilst I do bedtimes, meals etc.

Mitchell81 · 01/07/2008 13:42

YCBS: forgot to add that I'm glad you have company this week.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/07/2008 13:54

mf - admire your braveness to attempt camping. I'm wimping out this year!

I'm still expressing but have just (after 5 weeks in which I've seen a b/f counsellor, a pro-b/f midwife and my HV ) discovered that DS2 has thrush in his mouth and I have it on my nipples. No bloody wonder it hurt so much. Hoorah for my GP. Anyway DS has a prescription and I'm picking mine up tomorrow. If I'm very, very lucky, we will be able to re-establish b/f and dispense with the endless pumping.

Only 3 weeks until the summer holidays. Life will be so much easier with no school run and DS will be 3 months old when they go back. by which time I will have imposed a routine on him.

macaco · 01/07/2008 15:11

Camping is quite a feat I think. We're hoping to get down the the beach this summer but it'll be in an apartment.

YCBS did you have Harry at the portland? I watched portland babies on tv and LOVED it! How was the birth? Sorry, I'm sure you put up a birth announcement, I'll have a look for it.

What vaccinations is everyone getting in the UK? Nico has had the first lot at 2 months: hib/polio, diptheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hep B, meningococo(?) C. Also paid for prevenar(meningistis) and rotavirus.

Mitchell81 · 01/07/2008 16:07

Macaco: we get the same at 8 weeks, DS2 getting them next tuesday.

luckymummy74 · 01/07/2008 20:01

magicfairy camping??? !! Blimey, rather you than me....it's not ny bag even without a baby....not that I stay in hotels or anything posh like that, I just like a nice self catering cottage in Cornwall . So pleased the BF is going much better now.

YCBS That date is fine for lunch in St Albans....looking forward to it, esp as it will be a break from what I'm sure is gonna be potty training hell next week!!!
Enjoy your parents visit and good luck with Harry's 6 week check.

mitchell81 Hope you managed putting the kids to bed on your own. I have done it the last 3 nights as DH has been working til 7pm, and it's bloody knackering!!!

However, I seem to be having a good response to trying DD2 with a bedtime routine...OK, it's only been 3 nights, but she loves her bath, then little massage, then feed then bed. She cried for 40 mins on and off the first night, ten mins last night and about 10 mins tonight, on and off. I know she's not hungry cos I've just fed her so I'm happy to leave her to cry it out. Usually it's just her way of getting herself to sleep. . It's nice to have evenings back to myself.

Rain forecast for the rest of the week .

hello all

i've finally got a second to come on mumsnet and say hi.

i don't know how you all manage it so regularly!

i'd love to be able to come on more and see how you're all doing and have a good chinwag. Hopefully i'll get more opportunities as dd2 gets older (she's 4 weeks today).

am slowly coming out of the horrible post-natal 'depression' i have been suffering from. Calling it depression seems weird to me, as it has been more of a massive panic attack / insomnia / anxiety thing. I definitely feel much better now, though. I'm hoping that this is the start of a proper recovery. Am just glad that i can start to enjoy my baby a bit now. She sleeps and eats like a dream - can't believe how different from dd1.

Anyway...didn't want to come on and be all ME ME ME...

Hoping I'll be able to get back into the swing of things on here a bit now...

asicsgirl · 02/07/2008 10:03

ooh i'm itching to go camping in this lovely weather!! trouble is we only have teeny tent as we used to go cycle camping before kids, and never got round to buying bigger tent. think i was always too nervous to go with ds1 (and weather was so crap last year). sure we can borrow one from someone tho. must get onto it!

duchess glad your gp finally spotted what was wrong! at all the others who missed the thrush. good luck getting bf established again.

mitchell good news re pg!

jently that sounded v scary. hope things are calmer now.

lm74 i'll let you know when i'm next down in barnet! won't be for a while yet as the next scheduled visit is august when mum and stepdad are coming here

i've been a bit up and down. ds2 slept really well for four nights on the trot last week, then 3 terrible nights as soon as my mum went home - perhaps he's pining for her! has developed lovely habit of SCREEEEECHING his face off for an hour or more in the evening - he cluster feeds like ds1 used to and i think he gets so tired that he just can't keep it together, so he wants more milk but is too tired/ angry to stay latched on. and nothing we do seems to help. you feel so impotent when you can't comfort them/ make it better.

he did sleep really well again last night though - 5 hours then 3.5 hours - so it's not all bad.

weather is here today, we're going for a walk with a friend and her 5 week old soon, looking forward to that.

have a good day everyone x
